Abstract:The aim of this paper is to investigate relatively flat envelopes. A necessary and sufficient condition is given for a relatively-finitely presented module to have a (monomorphic or epic) relatively flat envelope. Then those rings are characterized whose every relatively-finitely presented module has a relatively flat envelope which coincides with its injective envelope. Some known results are obtained as corollaries.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.

Abstract:We review our recent results on holomorphic affine structures on the Teichm "uller spaces of Calabi-Yau manifolds and their Hodge metric completions, as well as their applications to global Torelli theorems for Calabi-Yau manifolds. As corollaries we show that the extended period map from the completion space is injective into the period domain, and that the completion space is a domain of holomorphy and admits a complete Kahler-Einstein metric.

Abstract:We prove that (a) if R is a left coherent ring, then the weak global dimension wD(R) less than or equal to n (n greater than or equal to 2) if and only if every (n - 2)th F-cosyzygy of a finitely presented right R-module has a hat envelope with the unique mapping property; (b) if R is a left coherent and right perfect ring, then the right global dimension rD(R) less than or equal to n (n greater than or equal to 2) if and only if every (n - 2)th P-cosyzygy of a right R-module has a projective envelope with the unique mapping property; (c) if R is a commutative ring, then R is IT-coherent (resp. coherent) and the exactness of 0 --> K --> F-0 --> F-1 with F-0 and F-1 (finitely) projective and K finitely generated implies the projectivity of K if and only if every finitely generated (resp. finitely presented) R-module has a (finitely) projective envelope with the unique mapping property.

Abstract:We establish a duality between injective envelopes and flat covers over a commutative Noetherian ring. One case of this duality states that a morphism is an injective envelope, if and only if its Matlis dual is a flat cover. We also show that if we swap injective envelopes and flat covers in this duality, neither implication is true in general.

Abstract:Let R be a ring, n a fixed non-negative integer and FIn (F-n) the class of all right (left) R-modules of FP-injective (flat) dimension at most n. We prove that (FIn, FIn perpendicular to) is a perfect cotorsion theory if R is a right coherent ring with FP-id (R-R) <= n. This result was proven by Aldrich, Enochs, Jenda, and Oyonarte in Noetherian case. The modules in F-n(perpendicular to) are also studied. Some applications are given.

Abstract:Intuitively, an envelope of a family of curves is a curve that is tangent to a member of the family at each point. Here we use envelopes of families of circles to study objects from matrix theory and hyperbolic geometry. First we explore relationships between numerical ranges of $2\times 2$ matrices and families of circles to study the elliptical range theorem. Then we deduce a relationship between envelopes and the boundaries of families of intersecting circles and use it to find the boundaries of various families of pseudohyperbolic disks.

Abstract:The present article is concerned with a group of problems raised by J. Noguchi and M. Jarnicki/P. Plug, namely whether the envelopes of holomorphy of truncated tube domains are always schlicht, i.e. subdomains of $\mathbb{C^n}$, and how to characterize schlichtness if this is not the case. By way of a counter-example homeomorphic to the 4-ball, we answer the first question in the negative. Moreover, it is possible that the envelopes have arbitrarily many sheets. The article is concluded by sufficient conditions for schlichtness in complex dimension two.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of isometric envelope of a subspace in a Banach space, establishing its connections with several key elements: (a) we explore its relation to the mean ergodic projection on fixed points within a semigroup of contractions, (b) we draw parallels with Korovkin sets from the 1970s, (c) we investigate its impact on the extension properties of linear isometric embeddings. We use this concept to address the recent conjecture that the Gurarij space and the spaces , are the only separable approximately ultrahomogeneous Banach spaces (a certain multidimensional transitivity of the action of the linear isometry group). The similar conjecture for Fraïssé Banach spaces (a strengthening of the approximately homogeneous property) is also considered. We characterize the Hilbert space as the only separable reflexive space in which any closed subspace coincides with its envelope; and we show that the Gurarij space satisfies the same property. We compute some envelopes in the case of Lebesgue spaces, showing that the reflexive -spaces are the only reflexive rearrangement invariant spaces on [0, 1] for which all 1-complemented subspaces are envelopes. We also identify the isometrically unique "full" quotient space of by a Hilbertian subspace, for appropriate values of p , as well as the associated topological group embedding of the unitary group into the isometry group of .

Abstract:There is a widespread method to represent the envelope when a given hyperplane family creates an envelope. However, one sometimes encounters cases when the widespread method fails to represent the desired envelope precisely, and is confused. At the same time, one wants to find a correct method to draw the envelope precisely. In this article, focused on straight line families in the plane, an easy to understand explanation is given on the recently discovered correct method to represent the envelope precisely. Moreover, it is explained when and why the widespread method fails to represent the precise shape of envelope as well.

Abstract:This paper introduces and studies the φ-u- S -flat (resp., nonnil-u- S -injective) modules, which are a generalization of both φ-flat modules and u- S -flat modules (resp., both nonnil-injective modules and u- S -injective modules). We give the Cartan–Eilenberg–Bass theorem for nonnil-u- S -Noetherian rings. Finally, we offer some new characterizations of the φ-von Neumann regular ring.

Abstract:Analogue to Fontaine's computation for $\Omega_{\bar{\mathbb{Z}}_p/\mathbb{Z}_p}$, we compute the structure of $\Omega_{\mathcal{O}_{\bar{K}_0}/\mathcal{O}_{K_0}}$ (here $K_0$ is the completion of $\mathbb{Q}_p(T)$ at place $p$) and prove that $p^{1-1/p^n}\mathrm{d}p^{1/p^n}$, $T^{1-1/p^n}\mathrm{d}T^{1/p^n}$ and $S^{1-1/p^n}\mathrm{d}S^{1/p^n}$ are linearly dependent (Here $S := 1-T$). The main aim of this article is to find the linear equations for these three differential forms. Then we define a map which is called "differential version" of Fontaine's map to express the equations in a computable way. Finally, we prove that the coefficients in the equation can be expressed in some polynomial forms and compute some examples.

Abstract:Let R be a ring and tau a hereditary torsion theory for the category of all left R-modules. A right R-module M is called tau-flat if Tor(1)( M, R/I) = 0 for any tau-finitely presented left ideal I. A left R-module N is said to be tau-f-injective in case Ext(1)( R/I, N) = 0 for any tau-finitely presented left ideal I. R is called a left tau-coherent ring in case every tau-finitely presented left ideal is finitely presented. tau-coherent rings are characterized in terms of, among others, tau-flat and tau-f-injective modules. Some known results are extended.
