Abstract:There has appeared a series of transformations of social and economical relations since the reform and opening-up.With urban renewal and reconstruction,the tremendous value of waterfront in the respect of economy,society and ecology is recognized,and especially the value in economy is chased by every interest body.During the course of developing and reproducing waterfront,there is the risk that waterfront is gradually privatized to a certain extent,as the result that present laws are blank in defining and protecting the commonality of waterfront.By considering the actuality of public space of waterfront in Nanjing, it thinks that the production of space of waterfront should be in pursuit of the balance among economical interest,social equality and spatial justice;while the public attribute of waterfront should be protected by laws and supported by policies.Consequently,it suggests government to formulate policy and measures for managing waterfront to ensure its ownership by the whole people and to explore its comprehensive value to the highest degree.

Abstract:Based on the overexploitation of real estate in urban waterfront the paper elucidates the result of its negative influence to urban ecosystem and evolvement, we take Nanjing as an example, point out overexploitation of real estate is the main factor of accelerating the problems of 'aquatic ecosystem', 'water evolvement', 'landscape' and 'urban heat island', discuss the countermeasures to the problem, point out the importance of legislation and planning as well as the importance of constructing urban-wide 'aquatic ecosystem' and intensifying education and propagandism, provide some measures in public opinion supervision, and emphasize government should play the leading function in the whole process.

Abstract:Urban waterfronts are fascinating places,exhibiting both natural charm,usefulness for a vast array of human activities,as well as a rich heritage that generated significant tourist interest in some areas.On review of the waterfront development studies and urban development research both home and abroad,this article argues that a strong trend of urban waterfront development is recreation oriented,rather than business centered.This trend is in accordance with the humanist thinking among development paradigms.Thus,the authors of this study proposed the idea of urban waterfront recreational business district(RBD).Thirteen sites across the world were examined with field trip by at least one of the authors.The researchers summarized six issues that apply to the domestic waterfront RBD planning and development,which shares some commonality with China.

Abstract:The urban waterfront is an important space resource for urban management and meanwhile it is the common wealth of urban residents.Considering the urban management and referring to the theory of space production in the West,it presents the target and principle of space production of waterfront in Chinese cities,that is,to realize the sustainable development of waterfront and achieve the maximum benefits and to pursue the balance among economic benefits,social equity and spatial justice.Learning the experiences of waterfront renaissance and public trust in the West and according to the provisions in Constitution and Property Act of China,it argues that the public interests of urban waterfront should be defined and then protected by legal system and planning management in order to solve the problems including that the urban waterfront is greatly taken up by gated communities.Then it proposes the concept of "White Line" management and systematic measures in order to promote the space production of urban waterfront to benefit all citizens.

Abstract:From the point of the deprived nature of urban landscape in waterfront, this article analyzes the status of destroying the nature in built-up district of waterfront landscape from such four aspects as surface materials, riverbank patterns, riparian vegetation choice and hydrophilic elements choice, and proposes four measures: insisting on sustainable development, strengthening planning, speculating and evaluating the construction projects and building a sound legal system, and strengthening supervision and management to provide a theoretical basis for the practice.

Abstract:This article presents a new trend in urban politics in China, that is, the intertwined conflicts of three competing visions—entrepreneurial redevelopment, historic conservation, and community conservation—in the redevelopment of historic areas. Through an in-depth case study of the struggles around the redevelopment of historic Nanjing, we outline three key points. First, historic conservation has emerged as a strong urban vision competing against entrepreneurial redevelopment in historic districts, since the early 2000s. Second, local residents have tactically employed the discourse of historic conservation to negotiate their own visions of community conservation, yet these have largely failed since the major concern of the elite vision of historic conservation is the preservation of material structures rather than communities living in them. Third, and in conclusion, this article calls for a more inclusive vision of historic community conservation and more attention to the “envisioning” right of ordinary residents in Chinese urban politics.

Abstract:From the perspective of excessive real estate development near the waterfront of urban river,this paper points out its negative effect on urban ecology and environment.It is concluded that the excessive real estate development near the waterfront of urban river is one of the main reasons of intensified urban problems of "Water ecology","water environment","landscape environment" and "heat island effect".It discusses the solution of these problems and highlights the necessity of legislative planning,of constructing "water ecology",of expanding environmental education and publicity efforts,and of strengthening media supervision.It also stresses that the government should play a leading role in this whole process.

Abstract:With the development of urbanization,more and more human activities have led a series of damages to the nature.As one of the most important factors,water resources have been destroyed heavily.Many problems of urban water resources system have(become) increasingly serious,such as increasing quality deterioration of surface water and groundwater,and so on.with a rapid process of urbanization,Nanjing faces a cruel situation of water resources.Almost all rivers have been polluted.The analysis of precipitations shows that there is an increasing trend of precipitation and torrential rains.The research shows that urbanization should be designed and(conducted) under the principle of resources conservation.To protect the water resources system,the thesis points out that there is much to do,such as urban wetlands protection,wastewater recycle and water pollution control by ecological method.

Abstract:The scenic and historic areas near city is in close relationship with the city it depends on,its protection has an important part in improving the economic,social and environmental benefits of city.Taking scenic and historic areas of Zhongshan as an example,this paper analyses the changes of location and function of scenic and historic areas.The authors think scenic and historic areas of Zhongshan comes into the city gradually from suburb and urban-fringe being opposite the location of city.It has the special functions as follows: safeguarding ecological balance of the urban district,developing international tourism,the main places of culture and amusement,the protecting core of style and features in ancient capital of Nanjing city,etc.Besides the pure protections of cultural objects,environment and developing tourism in scenic and historic areas before.Therefore,the meaning and value of protection of scenic and historic areas of Zhongshan are the witness of history,the symbol of old city,the basis of establishing the best environment for people,the main base of developing tourism economy in Nanjing city.The tourism development of scenic and historic areas of Zhongshan has a main and advanced role in the sustainable development of big tour in Nanjing city as well as Jiangsu province.

Abstract:In recent years,with the acceleration of urbanization process in Nanjing,the city waterlogging disasters become more and more serious.The theories of hydrology,geography and planning are applied to analyze the causes of waterlogging disasters in Nanjing City.The natural and geographical environment of Nanjing is very special.Urbanization leads to the reality that the annual precipitations,flood season precipitations and frequencies of rainstorm of Nanjing City have been increasing.The change of the urban underlying surface condition leads to the increase of surface runoff and the decrease of conflux time.Inadequate urban planning reduces the enduring ability of the city for waterlogging disasters.Urbanization aggravates the damage degree of waterlogging.All these are the main reasons that cause the waterlogging disasters of Nanjing City.

Abstract:As consequence of rapid urbanization,urban wetlands in China are suffering rapid loss and degradation. Taking Shanghai's wetland management and conservation as an example,it's argued that the fundamental reasons dwell in four aspects: the high demand of construction land driven by urban sprawl,the lack of legal base for wetland protection,imperfect wetland management system and information system,and the absence of market mechanism and public participation. It is suggested that we enhance the national wetland conservation institutions starting from the local legislation,change one-resource based management system to integrated management system,and provide opportunities for market forces and encourage public participation.

Abstract:In the current phase of the global economic incorporation,the speed of the industrialization and urbanization is growing,and the metropolis and residentialization corridor is expanding increasing,especially in the developing countries and Asian area.But during the urbanization,the protection of the environment,especially protecting and making good use of water resoucers,is ignored because lack of the scientific outlook on development,merely aiming at economic benefit and the increasing speed of GDP per capita.This paper discusses the characters and processes of the urbanization,the utilization and management of the water resources and how to protect the water resources in the lower Changjiang River valley through investigating some important cities deeply,especially the problems of water body pollution,protection and urbanization process in the area of Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou and the Changjiang River mouth are deeply investigated and analysized.At last some new methods about how to utilize and protect the water resources during the urbanization in the developed area are put forward in order to be used in the construction of the harmonious society.The methods and models of the harmonious development about the urban industrial structure adjustments and new industrialization road in the downstream area of Changjiang River are proposed particularly,which will benefit for sustainable development in this area.

Abstract:Taking the water space landscape in the city as the theme, the relationship between city and water as the core, and Chinese traditional culture as the ideological context, this paper puts forward the theoretical framework and practical cases of urban water management. Urban water management theory provides corresponding theoretical support for the construction of water characteristics and guides practice in many aspects, including water ecology, water environment, water safety, water cycle, water culture, water space and water economy, to optimize the structure and function of the water space. It is necessary to explore measures for constructing water space features from the standpoint of ecological security patterns, urban and rural quality improvement and feature shaping, central urban space layout, and regional coordinated development. The research on the land spatial planning method of waterfront cities proposed by this study can provide new ideas for the spatial land planning of other waterfront cities.
