Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring. In \cite{MD4} Mao and Ding defined an special class of $R$-modules that they called $ FP_n $-projective $R$-modules. In this paper, we give some new characterizations of $ FP_n $-projective $R$-modules and strong $n$-coherent rings. Some known results are extended and some new characterizations of the $ FP_n $-injective global dimension in terms of $ FP_n $-projective $R$-modules are obtained. Using the $ FP_n $-projective dimension of an $R$-module defined by Ouyang, Duan and Li in \cite{Ouy} we introduce a slightly different $ FP_n $-projective global dimension over the ring $R$ which measures how far away the ring is from being Noetherian. This dimension agrees with the $(n,0)$-projective global dimension of \cite{Ouy} when the ring in question is strong $n$-coherent.

Abstract:Let H be a finite dimensional Hopf algebra and A be an algebra over a fixed field k. Firstly, it is proved that the left FP-projective dimension is invariant under cleft extensions when H is semisimple and A is left coherent. Secondly, using (co)induction functors, we study the relations between FP-projective dimensions in A#H-Mod and the counterparts in A(H)-Mod. Finally, we characterize the FP-projective preenvelopes (resp., precovers) under H*-extensions and cleft extensions, respectively.

Abstract:Let R be a ring, n a fixed non-negative integer and FIn (F-n) the class of all right (left) R-modules of FP-injective (flat) dimension at most n. We prove that (FIn, FIn perpendicular to) is a perfect cotorsion theory if R is a right coherent ring with FP-id (R-R) <= n. This result was proven by Aldrich, Enochs, Jenda, and Oyonarte in Noetherian case. The modules in F-n(perpendicular to) are also studied. Some applications are given.

Abstract:Let R be a ring and M a right R-module. M is called n-FP-projective if Ext(1) (M, N) = 0 for any right R-module N of FP-injective dimension <= n, where n is a nonnegative integer or n = infinity. v(R)(M) is defined as sup{n : M is n-FP-projective} and v(R) (M) = -1 if Ext(1) (M, N) not equal 0 for some FP-injective right R-module N. The right v-diniension r.v-dim(R) of R is defined to be the least nonnegative integer n such that v(R)(M) : n implies v(R)(M) = infinity for any right R-module M. If no such n exists, set r.v-dim(R) = infinity. The aim of this paper is to investigate n-FP-projective modules and the v-dimension of rings.

Abstract:Let R be a left coherent ring, (R)omega a Wakamatsu tilting module and S = End((R)omega) a right coherent ring. It is shown that the FP-injective dimensions of (R)omega and omega(S) are identical provided both of them are finite. It is also shown that in this case all finitely presented left R-modules (right S-modules) have special (perpendicular to)omega-precovers and special ((perpendicular to)omega)(perpendicular to)-preenvelopes.

Abstract:The classes of FP-injective and weakly quasi-Frobenius rings are investigated. The properties for both classes of rings are closely linked with embedding of finitely presented modules in fp-flat and free modules respectively. Using these properties, we describe the classes of coherent CF and FGF-rings. Moreover, it is proved that the group ring R(G) is FP-injective (resp. weakly quasi-Frobenius) if and only if the ring R is FP-injective (resp. weakly quasi-Frobenius) and the group G is locally finite.

Abstract:In this paper, Gorenstein FP-injective modules are introduced and studied. An R-module M is called Gorenstein FP-injective if there is an exact sequence ... -> E-1 -> E-0 -> E-0 -> E-1 -> ... of injective R-modules with M = ker(E-0 -> E-1) and such that Hom(E,-) leaves the sequence exact whenever E is an FP-injective R-module. Some properties of Gorenstein FP-injective and Gorenstein flat modules over coherent rings are obtained. Several known results are extended.

Abstract:Let R be a ring. A left R-module M (respectively right R-module N) is called FI-injective (respectively FI-flat) if Ext1(G,M)=0 (respectively Tor1(N,G)=0) for any FP-injective left R-module G. Suppose R is a left coherent ring. It is shown that a left R-module M is FI-injective if and only if M is a direct sum of an injective left R-module and a reduced FI-injective left R-module; a finitely presented right R-module M is FI-flat if and only if M is a cokernel of a flat preenvelope of a right R-module. These modules together with the left derived functors of Hom are used to study the FP-injective dimensions of modules and rings.

Abstract:Let $R$ and $S$ be rings, $C= {}_SC_R$ a (faithfully) semidualizing bimodule, and $n$ a positive integer or $n=\infty$. In this paper, we introduce the concepts of $C$-$fp_n$-injective $R$-modules and $C$-$fp_n$-flat $S$-modules as a common generalization of some known modules such as $C$-$FP_{n}$-injective (resp. $C$-weak injective) $R$-modules and $C$-$FP_{n}$-flat (resp. $C$-weak flat) $S$-modules. Then we investigate $C$-$fp_{n}$-injective and $C$-$fp_{n}$-flat dimensions of modules, where the classes of these modules, namely $Cfp_nI(R)_{\leq k}$ and $Cfp_nF(S)_{\leq k}$, respectively. We study Foxby equivalence relative to these classes, and also the existence of $Cfp_nI(R)_{\leq k}$ and $Cfp_nF(S)_{\leq k}$ preenvelopes and covers. Finally, we study the exchange properties of these classes, as well as preenvelopes (resp. precovers) and Foxby equivalence, under almost excellent extensions of rings.

Abstract:A complex Q is said to be FP-injective if, for any monomorphism psi : A -> B of complexes with A finitely generated and B finitely generated free and any morphism phi : A -> Q of complexes, there exists gamma : B -> Q such that gamma psi = phi. It is proven that Q is an FP-injective complex if and only if every Q(i) is FP-injective and Hom (G, Q) is exact for every finitely presented complex G.

Abstract:Let R be any ring. A right R-module M is called n-copure projective if Ext(1) (M, N) = 0 for any right R-module N with fd(N) <= n, and M is said to be strongly copure projective if Ext(i) (M, F) = 0 for all flat right R-modules F and all i >= 1. In this article, firstly, we present some general properties of n-copure projective modules and strongly copure projective modules. Then we define and investigate copure projective dimensions of modules and rings. Finally, more properties and applications of n-copure projective modules, strongly copure projective modules and copure projective dimensions are given over coherent rings with finite self-FP-injective dimension.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring, and let S be a multiplicative subset of R. In this paper, we introduce and investigate the notion of S-FP-injective modules. Among other results, we show that, under certain conditions, a ring R is S-Noetherian if and only if every S-FP-injective R-module is S-injective. Moreover, we establish, under certain conditions, counterparts of Matlis, Stenström and Cheatham-Stone's characterizations of S-coherent rings.

Abstract:It is shown that a ring is left semihereditary if and only each homomorphic image of its injective hull as left module is FP-injective. It is also proven that a commutative ring R is reduced and arithmetical if and only if E/U if FP-injective for any FP-injective R-module E and for any submodule U of finite Goldie dimension. A characterization of commutative rings for which each module of finite Goldie dimension is of injective dimension at most one is given. Let R be a chain ring and Z its subset of zerodivisors. It is proven that E/U is FP-injective for each FP-injective R-module E and each pure polyserial submodule U of E if R/I is complete in its f.c. topology for each ideal I whose the top prime ideal is Z. The converse holds if each indecomposable injective module whose the bottom prime ideal is Z contains a pure uniserial submodule. For some chain ring R we show that E/U is FP-injective for any FP-injective module E and any its submodule U of finite Goldie dimension, even if R is not coherent. It follows that any Archimedean chain ring is either coherent or maximal if and only if each factor of any injective module of finite Goldie dimension modulo a pure submodule is injective.

Abstract:A ring extension is a ring homomorphism preserving identities. In this paper, we give the definitions of relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers of modules on ring extensions, and study their basic properties. In particular, we give their equivalent characterizations in terms of relative essential monomorphisms and relative superfluous epimorphisms, and prove that relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers on ring extensions are unique up to isomorphism whenever they exist. Moreover, for an extension of Artin algebras, we show that every finitely generated module has both a relative injective envelope and a relative projective cover. In addition, we compare relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers on two ring extensions linked by surjective homomorphisms of rings respectively.

Abstract:In this article, we study the weak global dimension of coherent rings in terms of the left FP-injective resolutions of modules. Let R be a left coherent ring and F I the class of all FP-injective left R-modules. It is shown that wD(R) <= n (n >= 1) if and only if every nth F I-syzygy of a left R-module is FP-injective; and wD(R) <= n (n >= 2) if and only if every (n - 2)th F I-syzygy in a minimal F I-resolution of a left R-module has an FP-injective cover with the unique mapping property. Some results for the weak global dimension of commutative coherent rings are also given.
