Abstract:The formation of different crystal phases in calcium oxalate (CaOx) solution with different relative supersaturation degree (RS) was studied in physiological saline and artificial urine, respectively. When the initial concentration of both c(Ca2+)and c(Ox(2-)) increased from 0.8 mmol/L to 1.2 mmol/L, the formed crystals changed from one crystal phase of calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) to three crystal phases of COM, calcium oxalate dehydrate (COD) and trihydrate (COT) with percentages of 60.7%, 17.9% and 21.4% respectively in saline. However, only COM and COD were formed in artificial urine. The percentage of COD increased from 26% to 49% with the increase of CaOx concentration from 0.8 mmol/L to 1.2 mmol/L. The cause of formation of COM, COD and COT crystals were discussed. This result can help to elucidate the renal-calculi formation mechanism.
