This year marks the first time that WUWNet has been held outside of North America. This was done to raise the awareness of this conference with the broader international community, and to also recognize the outstanding research that is being performed in underwater networks and network-related signal processing, communications, systems, and applications.

Abstract:The International Workshop for Autonomous System Safety (IWASS) is a joint effort by the B. John Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA-GIRS) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). IWASS is an invitation-only event designed to be a platform for cross-industrial and interdisciplinary effort and knowledge exchange on autonomous systems' Safety, Reliability, and Security (SRS). The workshop gathers experts from academia, regulatory agencies, and industry to discuss challenges and potential solutions for SRS of autonomous systems from different perspectives. It complements existing events organized around specific types of autonomous systems (e.g., cars, ships, aviation) or particular safety or security-related aspects of such systems (e.g., cyber risk, software reliability, etc.). IWASS distinguishes itself from these events by addressing these topics together and proposing solutions for SRS challenges common to different types of autonomous systems. IWASS 2022 was held on August 28th in Dublin, Ireland, and gathered 30 participants from 20 organizations from around the globe. In addition, a panel session at the European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL 2023) discussed the workshop's main conclusions and additional points with a larger audience. This report summarizes IWASS 2022 discussions. It provides an overview of the main points raised by a community of experts on the current status of autonomous systems SRS. It also outlines research directions for safer, more reliable and secure future autonomous systems.

Abstract:The 10th edition of the Joint Workshop on Interfaces and Human Decision Making for Recommender Systems was held as part of the 17th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys), the premier international forum for the presentation of new research results, systems and techniques in the broad field of recommender systems. The workshop was organized as a hybrid event: the physical session took place on September 18th at the venue of the main conference, Singapore, with the possibility for authors to present remotely. The IntRS workshop brings together an interdisciplinary community of researchers and practitioners who share research on new recommender systems (informed by psychology), including new design technologies and evaluation methodologies, and aim to identify critical challenges and emerging topics in the field. This year we focused particularly on topics related to Human-Centered AI, Explainability of decision-making models, User-adaptive XAI systems, which are becoming more and more popular in the last years, especially in domains where recommended options might have ethical and legal impacts on users. The integration of XAI with recommender systems is crucial for enhancing their transparency, interpretability, and accountability. This topic attracted a lot of interest from the community, as demonstrated by the fact that several workshop papers proposed methods for recommendation explanations. Date : 18 September 2023. Abstract:The 2nd Joint Workshop on Cross Reality (JWCR'24), organized as part of ISMAR 2024, seeks to explore the burgeoning field of Cross Reality (CR), which encompasses the seamless integration and transition between various points on the reality-virtuality continuum (RVC) such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Virtuality (AV), and Augmented Reality (AR). This hybrid workshop aims to build upon the foundation laid by the inaugural JWCR at ISMAR 2023, which successfully unified diverse CR research communities. The workshop will address key themes including CR visualization, interaction, user behavior, design, development, engineering, and collaboration. CR Visualization focuses on creating and displaying spatial data across the RVC, enabling users to navigate and interpret information fluidly. CR Interaction delves into natural user engagements using gestures, voice commands, and other advanced techniques to enhance immersion. The study of CR User Behavior and Experience investigates how users perceive and interact within these hybrid environments. Furthermore, CR Design and Development emphasizes creating effective CR applications using innovative processes and tools, while CR Collaboration examines methods for fostering teamwork in mixed reality settings.

Abstract:The First Search Futures Workshop, in conjunction with the Fourty-sixth European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) 2024, looked into the future of search to ask questions such as: • How can we harness the power of generative AI to enhance, improve and re-imagine Information Retrieval (IR)? • What are the principles and fundamental rights that the field of Information Retrieval should strive to uphold? • How can we build trustworthy IR systems in light of Large Language Models and their ability to generate content at super human speeds? • What new applications and affordances does generative AI offer and enable, and can we go back to the future, and do what we only dreamed of previously? The workshop started with seventeen lightning talks from a diverse set speakers. Instead of conventional paper presentations, the lightning talks provided a rapid and concise overview of ideas, allowing speakers to share critical points or novel concepts quickly. This format was designed to encourage discussion and introduce a wide range of topics within a short period, thereby maximising the exchange of ideas and ensuring that participants could gain insights into various future search areas without the deep dive typically required in longer presentations. This report, co-authored by the workshop's organisers and its participants, summarises the talks and discussions. This report aims to provide the broader IR community with the insights and ideas discussed and debated during the workshop - and to provide a platform for future discussion. Date: 24 March 2024. Abstract:It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 10th annual ACM Workshop on Privacy in the Electronic Society -- WPES 2011. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss problems of privacy in the global interconnected societies and to propose solutions to these problems. This year WPES continues to be a workshop at the ACM CCS conference. The call for papers attracted 73 submissions from North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe. This was a record number of submissions and each paper was reviewed by at least 3 program committee members, and sometimes 4. The program committee accepted 12 full papers and 9 short papers that cover a variety of topics, including social network privacy, cloud privacy, privacy policies, anonymity systems, privacy preferences, and location privacy. We hope that these proceedings will serve as a valuable reference for privacy researchers and developers.

Abstract:This volume contains the position papers presented at CSCW 2021 Workshop - Investigating and Mitigating Biases in Crowdsourced Data, held online on 23rd October 2021, at the 24th ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW 2021). The workshop explored how specific crowdsourcing workflows, worker attributes, and work practices contribute to biases in data. The workshop also included discussions on research directions to mitigate labelling biases, particularly in a crowdsourced context, and the implications of such methods for the workers.

Abstract:This report documents the process that led to the NSF Workshop on "Sustainable Computing for Sustainability" held in April 2024 at NSF in Alexandria, VA, and reports on its findings. The workshop's primary goals were to (i) advance the development of research initiatives along the themes of both sustainable computing and computing for sustainability, while also (ii) helping develop and sustain the interdisciplinary teams those initiatives would need. The workshop's findings are in the form of recommendations grouped in three categories: General recommendations that cut across both themes of sustainable computing and computing for sustainability, and recommendations that are specific to sustainable computing and computing for sustainability, respectively.

Abstract:The Robust Artificial Intelligence System Assurance (RAISA) workshop will focus on research, development and application of robust artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) systems. Rather than studying robustness with respect to particular ML algorithms, our approach will be to explore robustness assurance at the system architecture level, during both development and deployment, and within the human-machine teaming context. While the research community is converging on robust solutions for individual AI models in specific scenarios, the problem of evaluating and assuring the robustness of an AI system across its entire life cycle is much more complex. Moreover, the operational context in which AI systems are deployed necessitates consideration of robustness and its relation to principles of fairness, privacy, and explainability.

Abstract:The workshop will focus on the application of AI to problems in cyber security. Cyber systems generate large volumes of data, utilizing this effectively is beyond human capabilities. Additionally, adversaries continue to develop new attacks. Hence, AI methods are required to understand and protect the cyber domain. These challenges are widely studied in enterprise networks, but there are many gaps in research and practice as well as novel problems in other domains. In general, AI techniques are still not widely adopted in the real world. Reasons include: (1) a lack of certification of AI for security, (2) a lack of formal study of the implications of practical constraints (e.g., power, memory, storage) for AI systems in the cyber domain, (3) known vulnerabilities such as evasion, poisoning attacks, (4) lack of meaningful explanations for security analysts, and (5) lack of analyst trust in AI solutions. There is a need for the research community to develop novel solutions for these practical issues.

Abstract:This workshop aimed for a deeper exploration of trust and acceptance in human-robot interaction (HRI) from a multidisciplinary perspective including robots' capabilities of sensing and perceiving other agents, the environment, and human-robot dynamics. The workshop was held online in conjunction with IEEE RO-MAN 2021 (see https://ro-man2021.org/). Three invited speakers and six position papers analysed/discussed different aspects of human-robot interaction that can affect, enhance, undermine, or recover humans' trust in robots, such as the use of social cues or behaviour transparency. Abstract:This volume contains all papers presented at the 11th Annual ACM DRM Workshop 2011, sponsored by the ACM SIGSAC and held in conjunction with the 18th ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CSS) in Chicago, USA. The full-day workshop consisted of informal discussions, invited talks and peer-reviewed technical talks describing recent research contributions to the area of Digital Rights Management. As in previous years, the DRM workshop provided an interdisciplinary bridge between different research areas that span the landscape of DRM, including cryptography, system security, law and economy. This year we were delighted to have two invited talks, one covering legal aspects of DRM, given by Bruce Boyden from the Marquette University Law School, and one covering technical aspects, given by Brendan Traw from Intel. In addition, the DRM workshop featured two sessions containing technical contributions on novel DRM applications and on technological foundations. We hope that you will find this program interesting and that the workshop will provide you with opportunities to share ideas with other researchers and practitioners from institutions around the world.

Abstract:This workshop focused on identifying the challenges and dynamics between people and robots to foster short interactions and long-lasting relationships in different fields, from educational, service, collaborative, companion, care-home and medical robotics. For that, this workshop facilitated a discussion about people's trust towards robots "in the field", inviting workshop participants to contribute their past experiences and lessons learnt.
