Abstract:A delayed Leslie-Gower predator-prey system is considered in this paper. It is assumed that the predator and the prey species have the same feedback delay to their growth. Using the delay as a bifurcation parameter, our results show that the positive equilibrium can only be asymptotically stable or unstable depending on the delays and that Hopf bifurcations can occur as the delay crosses some critical values. The model can exhibit an interesting property, i.e. under certain conditions, the positive equilibrium may switch a finite number of times between being stable and unstable, but always becomes unstable eventually. By deriving the equation describing the flow on the centre manifold, we can determine the direction of the Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions. In addition, special attention is paid to the global continuation of local Hopf bifurcations. Using a global Hopf bifurcation result of Wu (1998, Trans. Am. Math. Soc., 350, 4799-4838 for functional differential equations, we may show the global existence of periodic solutions. Computer simulations illustrate the results.

Abstract:In this paper, a modified Leslie-Gower predator–prey system with time delays is investigated, where the time delays are regarded as bifurcation parameters. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equation, the local stability of a positive equilibrium is considered. Moreover, we show that Hopf bifurcations occur when time delay crosses some critical values. By deriving the equation describing the flow on the center manifold, we give the formula for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions. In addition, we also try on the global existence of periodic solutions by using the global Hopf bifurcation result of Wu [J. Wu, Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 350 (1998) 4799–4838.] for functional differential equations. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the theoretical results and they show that the time delays in the system under consideration can destroy the stability of the system.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a delayed diffusive Leslie-Gower predator-prey system with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. The stability/instability of the coexistence equilibrium and associated Hopf bifurcation are investigated by analyzing the characteristic equations. Furthermore, using the upper and lower solutions method, we give a sufficient condition on parameters so that the coexistence equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable.

Abstract:A stage structured prey predator system with modified Leslie-Gower scheme is presented, where both maturation delay for prey and gestation delay for predator are considered. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, combined dynamic effects of stage structure and double time delays on population dynamics are discussed, and regions of local stability around interior equilibrium are studied. According to Hopf bifurcation theorem for functional differential equations, existence of Hopf bifurcation around interior equilibrium is investigated as local stability switches. Existence of global continuation of periodic solutions bifurcating from the interior equilibrium is discussed by using a global Hopf bifurcation theorem for functional differential equations. Numerical simulations are provided to show consistency with theoretical analysis.

Abstract and Applied Analysis

Abstract:A delayed Leslie-Gower predator-prey model with nonmonotonic functional response is studied. The existence and local stability of the positive equilibrium of the system with or without delay are completely determined in the parameter plane. Using the method of upper and lower solutions and monotone iterative scheme, a sufficient condition independent of delay for the global stability of the positive equilibrium is obtained. Hopf bifurcations induced by the ratio of the intrinsic growth rates of the predator and prey and by delay, respectively, are found. Employing the normal form theory, the direction and stability of Hopf bifurcations can be explicitly determined by the parameters of the system. Some numerical simulations are given to support and extend our theoretical results. Two limit cycles enclosing an equilibrium, one limit cycle enclosing three equilibria and different types of heteroclinic orbits such as connecting two equilibria and connecting a limit cycle and an equilibrium are also found by using analytic and numerical methods.

Abstract:In this paper, the dynamics of a modified Leslie-Gower predator-prey system with two delays and diffusion is considered. By calculating stability switching curves, the stability of positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation and double Hopf bifurcation are investigated on the parametric plane of two delays. Taking two time delays as bifurcation parameters, the normal form on the center manifold near the double Hopf bifurcation point is derived, and the unfoldings near the critical points are given. Finally, we obtain the complex dynamics near the double Hopf bifurcation point, including the existence of quasi-periodic solutions on a 2-torus, quasi-periodic solutions on a 3-torus, and strange attractors.

Abstract:A modified predator-prey model with a new nonlinear harvesting on predator and gestation delay of prey is studied. It is shown that the stability of interior equilibrium point can switch finite times and Hopf bifurcations occur when delay increases through critical values. The properties of the Hopf bifurcations are investigated by the center manifold theorem. Special attention is paid to singularity-induced bifurcations and their state feedback control. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this work, a Leslie-Gower model with a weak Allee effect on the prey and a fear effect on the predator is proposed. By using qualitative analyses, the local stability of the coexisting equilibrium and the existence of Turing instable are discussed. By analyzing the distribution of eigenvalues, the existence of a Hopf bifurcation is studied by using the gestation time delay as a bifurcation parameter. By utilizing the normal form method and the center manifold theorem, we calculate the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions. We indicate that both the weak Allee effect on the prey and fear effect on the predator have an important impact on the dynamical behaviour of the new Leslie-Gower model. We also verify the obtained results by some numerical examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a Leslie–Gower predator–prey model with Allee effect on the prey and a linear functional response. Here the Allee effect impacts the birth rate of the prey, which is different from the common multiplicative and additive Allee effects. The model is well-posed, that is, all solutions are bounded. Applying the blow-up method indirectly, we prove that the origin which is not an equilibrium of the system is an attractor. Then we study the existence and stability of equilibria, which indicate that the system undergoes bifurcations. With the help of Sotomayor’s theorem, we show the occurrence of saddle-node bifurcation. Moreover, there is degenerate Hopf bifurcation of codimension at least three. By choosing two (three) parameters of the system as bifurcation parameters and calculating a versal unfolding near the cusp, we demonstrate that the system undergoes Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation of codimension two (three). These theoretical results are supported with numerical simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, we explored a modified Leslie-Gower predator-prey model incorporating a fear effect and multiple delays. We analyzed the existence and local stability of each potential equilibrium. Furthermore, we investigated the presence of periodic solutions via Hopf bifurcation bifurcated from the positive equilibrium with respect to both delays. By utilizing the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem, we investigated the direction and stability of these periodic solutions. Our theoretical findings were validated through numerical simulations, which demonstrated that the fear delay could trigger a stability shift at the positive equilibrium. Additionally, we observed that an increase in fear intensity or the presence of substitute prey reinforces the stability of the positive equilibrium.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a diffusive predator–prey system with strong Allee effect and two delays. First, we explore the stability region of the positive constant steady state by calculating the stability switching curves. Then we derive the Hopf and double Hopf bifurcation theorem via the crossing directions of the stability switching curves. Moreover, we calculate the normal forms near the double Hopf singularities by taking two delays as parameters. We carry out some numerical simulations for illustrating the theoretical results. Both theoretical analysis and numerical simulation show that the system near double Hopf singularity has rich dynamics, including stable spatially homogeneous and inhomogeneous periodic solutions. Finally, we evaluate the influence of two parameters on the existence of double Hopf bifurcation.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the global Hopf bifurcation of a diffusive modified Leslie–Gower predator–prey model with delay and Michaelis–Menten type prey harvesting. First, we obtain the stability of positive steady state and the existence of local Hopf bifurcation under certain conditions. Second, we get the permanence of the system by using the comparison theorem. Moreover, by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function, we derive sufficient conditions for the global attractivity of the unique positive steady state for the system without delay. Then, the global existence of positive periodic solutions is established by using the global Hopf bifurcation result of Wu. Finally, the results are verified by numerical simulation.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the stability and Hopf bifurcation of a delayed density-dependent predator–prey system with Beddington–DeAngelis functional response, where not only the prey density dependence but also the predator density dependence are considered such that the studied predator–prey system conforms to the realistically biological environment. We start with the geometric criterion introduced by Beretta and Kuang [2002] and then investigate the stability of the positive equilibrium and the stability switches of the system with respect to the delay parameter [Formula: see text]. Especially, we generalize the geometric criterion in [Beretta & Kuang, 2002] by introducing the condition [Formula: see text] which can be assured by the condition [Formula: see text], and adopting the technique of lifting to define the function [Formula: see text] for alternatively determining stability switches at the zeroes of [Formula: see text]s. Afterwards, by the Poincaré normal form for Hopf bifurcation in [Kuznetsov, 1998] and the bifurcation formulae in [Hassard et al., 1981], we qualitatively analyze the properties for the occurring Hopf bifurcations of the system (3). Finally, an example with numerical simulations is given to illustrate the obtained results.
