Abstract:In supply chain management, decision makers' behavioral problem may result in the chain's poor performance. In this paper, we investigate a supply chain consisting of one risk-neutral supplier and one reference-dependent and loss-averse retailer who faces a newsvendor problem with price-dependent demand, and provide the conditions in which revenue sharing contracts can coordinate the supply chain under expected profit criterion. We also propose an extended supply chain coordination definition, which considers the impact of agents' behavioral preferences on supply chain performance and allows the existence of agents with incomparable utilities. Furthermore, it generalizes the one in risk-neutral settings. Finally, we prove that the revenue sharing contracts can accomplish coordination of a newsvendor within the new framework

Abstract:This paper studies the impact of fairness concerns on supply chain performance (SCP) in the two‐party newsvendor setting. We extend prior fairness analysis to a wide range of demand distributions, and also allow the degree and definition of fairness to assume a broader range of preferences than those in prior literature. Contrary to prior literature, we find that if the retailer's ideal allocation to the supplier is not sufficiently large, regardless of demand variability, a fair‐minded retailer makes no difference to system efficiency when facing a traditional profit‐maximizing supplier. Only when the retailer's ideal allocation to the supplier is above a threshold can the retailer's fairness concern improve the system efficiency for sufficiently high demand uncertainty. In order for the retailer's fairness concern to improve expected profits of both parties compared to the traditional supply chain case (win–win), the demand uncertainty cannot be too low, the retailer is not very averse to disadvantageous inequity, and his ideal allocation to the supplier is within a specific range. If only the supplier is concerned for fairness, the results range from worsening to improving (but not coordinating) the system and a win–win situation is impossible. Finally, when both the supplier and retailer are fair‐minded, SCP is improved unless both parties prefer to allocate small portions of system profit to the other. Again, win–win will be achieved only when the demand uncertainty is sufficiently high, the retailer's ideal allocation is within a certain range, and he is not very averse to disadvantageous inequity.

Abstract:This paper studies a supply chain model in which a single supplier sells a single product to a single retailer who faces the newsvendor problem. The retailer is loss averse. The results show that the optimal production quantity with decentralized decision making with a wholesale price contract is less than that with centralized decision making. The supply chain can achieve channel coordination with buy back and target rebate contracts. With buy back contracts, the supply chain system profits can be allocated arbitrarily between the supplier and retailer. A new kind of contract, the incremental buy back contract, gives similar results as with the buy back contract. The advantages and drawbacks of these three types of contracts are analyzed with numerical examples.

Abstract:This paper incorporates loss aversion into the newsvendor framework by assuming that there are psychological costs of leftovers and stock-outs based on the asymmetry theory of losses and gains with respect to a reference point.Accordingly,this paper analyzes the impact of loss aversion on contract design in the supply chain system by constructing a subjective utility function of the loss-averse member and postulating the loss aversion character as private information.The outline of this paper is as follows.In section 1,we review the existing literatures about how loss aversion affects supply chain members’ behaviors and how to design a supply contract under asymmetric information.In section 2,we establish a supply chain system composed of a rational supplier and a retailer with a probability of owning loss aversion character.The supplier’s task is to develop optimal contracts( i.e.,pooling contract or screening contract) to maximize its expected profit given the probability of the retailer’s owning loss aversion character.In sections 3 and 4,we propose the design processes of the pooling contract and screening contract respectively:Under the pooling contract,the supplier decides the unified wholesale price for two different types of retailers( i.e.,loss-averse retailer and loss-neutral retailer).The retailer determines the order quantity according to its type.Under the screening contract,the supplier designs a contract menu containing both wholesale prices and order quantities in order to disclose the retailer’s true type.In section 5,we establish some linear relationships between unit psychological costs and the product’s sale price.We further compare the expected profits( utilities) of the supplier and the retailer under the two contracts through a numerical simulation.Finally,we give concluding remarks in section 6.We obtain the optimal wholesale price for the supplier and optimal order quantity for different retailers under the pooling contract.We find find that the supplier ‘s optimal wholesale price has a positive correlation with the probability of retailer ‘s owning loss aversion character and retailer’ s unit psychological cost of stock-outs.However,the supplier ‘s optimal wholesale price has a negative correlation with retailer’s unit psychological cost of leftovers.In addition,we find that the optimal order quantities of the two types of retailers have a negative correlation with the probability of retailer ’s owning loss aversion character,but have different correlations with retailer ’s unit psychological costs.The loss-neutral retailer ’s optimal order quantity has a positive( negative)correlation with the unit psychological cost of leftovers( stock-outs) while the loss-averse retailer’s optimal order quantity has a positive correlation with the unit psychological cost of stock-outs and a uncertain correlation with the unit psychological cost of leftovers( depending on the relationship of the unit production cost and other parameters).Under the model of screening contract,we find that effective screening contract can be designed only under the condition that the unit production cost is relatively low and supplier can choose the optimal contract by comparing his optimal expected profits under the two contracts.Otherwise,the pooling contract is optimal.Our simulation,in which the unit production cost is relatively low,demonstrates that the supplier can achieve a higher expected utility under the screening contract as long as the effective screening contract can be designed.

Abstract:As economic fluctuations and market uncertainty intensify, supply chain members face enormous challenges. To explore the role of revenue-sharing contracts in supply chain members with different risk preferences, we study the risk-averse two-stage supply chain coordination in a revenue-sharing contract under three different scenarios: the supplier is risk-averse and the retailer is risk-neutral, or the retailer is risk-averse and the supplier is risk-neutral, or both are risk-averse. We find that the revenue-sharing contract mechanism allows the supplier to offer a lower wholesale price, effectively bearing part of the retailer's cost risk. In return, the retailer compensates the supplier with a larger portion of their revenue, and the lower wholesale price also stimulates the retailer's desire to order more products. In addition, risk aversion always reduces the optimal order quantity in the supply chain. Interestingly, when the retailer's risk aversion level is low, the supplier charges a higher wholesale price under the risk-averse supply chain than that under the risk-neutral supply chain. However, if the retailer's risk aversion level is high enough, the supplier should charge a lower price to stimulate the retailer under the risk-averse supply chain to retain the order size to maintain the channel profit.

Abstract:We investigates a two-echelon supply chain with one risk-natural supplier and one loss-averse retailer where there is one short life cycles product with stochastic demand. The loss-averse preference is adopted to describe the retailer's decision-making behavior. We introduce a combined contract by organically combining the quantity flexibility contract and the buy-back contract with this issue. It is found that the risk averse retailer's optimal order quantity is less than the risk-neutral retailer's and decreasing with the risk aversion level. When designed properly, the combined contract can be used to reduce the loss-aversion effect. Moreover, the effects of retailer's risk preference on agents' decision-making and profit allocation are studied. Comparing with quantity flexibility contract and buy-back contract, to some extent, the combined contract can make supply chain more efficient in terms of coordination and profit allocation. The numerical experiments are conducted to validate our theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper studies a newsvendor problem with random supply capacity, where the retailer is loss-averse and chooses the target unit profit as his reference point. The retailer's optimal order quantity is firstly obtained and is independent of supply capacity. Then we make a complete sensitivity analysis. It is shown that the optimal order quantity is decreasing in loss aversion level and reference point. We also find there exists a negative threshold of reference point, below which the effect of negative reference point will dominate that of loss aversion and then the loss-averse retailer will order more than the risk-neutral one. Moreover, the optimal order quantity is decreasing in wholesale price, while increasing in selling price and salvage value.

Abstract:By adopting the prospect theory, this paper explores how loss aversion influences suppliers' buyback policies when retailers are loss-averse. Specifically, this paper examines how buyback contract coordinates a supply chain, which consists of one loss-averse retailer and one risk-neutral supplier with stock losses. Research models in centralized setting and decentralized solution are proposed and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the models. The results of the example indicate that manufacturers can adjust their wholesale prices and formulate different buy-back coefficients to eliminate double marginalization caused by decentralized decision-making when retailers have different level of loss aversion. In other words, when retailers have subtle loss aversion, buy-back contract can coordinate supply chains.

Abstract:This paper studies coordination in a dual‐channel supply chain consisting of a risk‐averse retailer with fairness concerns and a risk‐neutral and fairness‐neutral manufacturer where the market demand and manufacturer yield are both uncertain. Based on CVaR criterion and fairness concern theory, a dual‐channel supply chain decision‐making model for the risk‐averse retailer with fairness concerns is constructed, and the optimal decision under centralized and decentralized dual‐channel supply chains is discussed. A new joint contract formed from revenue‐sharing and buyback contracts is presented to coordinate the dual‐channel supply chain under yield and demand uncertainty conditions that realizes Pareto improvement. The influences of yield and demand uncertainties, the risk aversion coefficient, and the fairness concern coefficient on retailer's order quantity, retailer's expected utility function value, manufacturer's planned yield, and manufacturer's expected utility function value are analyzed through numerical examples. The feasible range of Pareto improvement under the joint contract is also discussed.

Abstract:<p>At present, the research on relevant decision-making considering the loss risk/ default risk in trade credit is on the rise This paper presents a supply chain model with a risk-averse retailer and a supplier offering loss sharing and trade credit in a supplier-Stackelberg game where the decision variables are the optimal order quantity and loss sharing ratio. The model is analyzed and compared to a newsvendor model without loss sharing and trade credit. Meanwhile, we provide a numerical example and sensitivity analysis to obtain managerial insights. We determine the trend and sensitivity hierarchies between the parameters and the optimal results. The main novelty and contribution of the paper can be demonstrated in two aspects. First, the risk tolerance largely affects the profit of supply chain members, therefore, we incorporate risk-averse parameter into trade credit policy. Second, we incorporate loss sharing into the supplier-Stackelberg game with trade credit for a loss-averse retailer. The findings highlight that for a risk-averse retailer, the supplier can improve the retailer's utility and its own profits through trade credit and loss sharing.</p>

Abstract:In this paper, we apply a combined revenue sharing and buyback contract to investigate the channel coordination of a two-echelon supply chain with a loss-averse retailer. Since loss-averse decision makers usually take on more risks, the Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) measure is introduced to hedge against it and the retailer’s objective is to maximize the CVaR of utility. We obtain the retailer’s optimal order quantity under the combined contract. It is shown that there is a unique wholesale price coordinating the supply chain if the retailer’s confidence level is less than a threshold that is independent of contract parameters. Moreover, a complete sensitivity analysis of parameters is carried out. In particular, the retailer’s optimal order quantity and coordinating wholesale price decreases as the loss aversion or confidence level increases, while it increase as the buyback price or sharing coefficient increases. Furthermore, there exists the situation where the combined contract can coordinate the chain even though neither the revenue sharing nor buyback contract can when the contract parameters are constrained.

Abstract:The paper aims to provide a theoretical basis for the application of revenue-sharing contract under bounded rationality and capital constraints. We consider an uncooperative ordering model in a supplier-Stackelberg game and coordination strategy with revenue-sharing contract for a loss-averse and capital-constrained retailer. We drive the existence and uniqueness conditions of the optimal solutions under bank financing and revenue-sharing contract. We also develop a series of propositions and corollaries to determine the optimal solutions and offer some managerial insights. The key contribution of the paper is to deepen and expand the revenue-sharing contract under the risk-neutral assumption, and to provide a theoretical basis for the application of revenue-sharing contract under bounded rationality and capital constraints. We find that the revenue-sharing ratio of loss-averse and capital-constrained retailer is larger than that of neutral retailer and the expected utility of loss-averse and capital-constrained retailer is larger than that of neutral retailer under coordination strategy with revenue-sharing contract.

We show that when channel members are concerned about fairness, a simple wholesale price can coordinate the whole supply chain within certain range of fairness parameters. Abstract:The possibilities of product allocation in the same-level supply network were discussed. Implementing product allocation necessitates collaboration among the members of supply network. Aiming at the objectives about product allocation, in terms of loss on inventory shortage, loss on inventory excess and allocation cost,a relevant directed weighted bipartite graph was built. The graph was translated into the network flow model in order to acquire the optimal allocation scheme. A example was provided for illustrating the model’s feasibility. Abstract:This paper studies the supply chain coordination where the retailer is loss-averse, and a combined buyback and quantity flexibility contract is introduced. The loss-averse retailer's objective is to maximize the Conditional Value-at-Risk of utility. It is shown the combined contract can coordinate the chain and a unique coordinating wholesale price exists if the confidence level is below a threshold. Moreover, the retailer's optimal order quantity, expected utility and coordinating wholesale price are decreasing in loss aversion and confidence levels, respectively. We also find that when the contract parameters are restricted, the combined contract may coordinate the supply chain even though neither of its component contracts coordinate the chain.

Abstract:In the paper, fairness concern criterion is utilized to explore the coordination of a dyadic supply chain with a fairness-concerned retailer (acting as a newsvendor), who is committed to low carbon efforts. Two models are developed for stochastic demand disturbances in the forms of multiplicative case and additive case, respectively. Firstly, the optimal joint decision of the retailer and the supply chain are proposed in two scenarios, i.e., decentralized decision and the centralized decision. Secondly, in order to realize channel coordination, the contract of revenue sharing combined with the mechanism of low-carbon cost sharing is designed. Moreover, the influences of the retailer's fairness concern and bargaining power on the joint decision and the contract parameters are also investigated. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results and some suggestions to supply chain management are also provided. The results show that the revenue sharing contract can make the supply chain achieved coordination with the cost sharing mechanism of low-carbon efforts. Furthermore, the optimal low-carbon effort level and ordering quantity decrease in terms of fairness-concerned parameter and Nash bargaining power parameter, which increases in unit cost. However, the optimal pricing makes the opposite change.

Abstract:This paper studies a loss-averse newsvendor problem with reference dependence, where both demand and yield rate are stochastic. We obtain the loss-averse newsvendor's optimal ordering policy and analyze the effects of loss aversion, reference dependence, random demand and yield on it. It is shown that the loss-averse newsvendor's optimal order quantity and expected utility decreases in loss aversion level and reference point. Then, that this order quantity may be larger than the risk-neutral one's if the reference point is less than a negative threshold. In addition, although the effect of random yield leads to an increase in the order quantity, the loss-averse newsvendor may order more than, equal to or less than the classical one, which significantly depends on loss aversion level and reference point. Numerical experiments were conducted to demonstrate our theoretical results.

Abstract:A review of current research on transmission losses allocation is presented. A new Shapley Value-based method for allocation of transmission losses is proposed. Using this method each transaction is allotted a value equal to its expected incremental losses that the transaction occurs by joining the coalition. This method weights all joining orderings equally across all possible related coalition, therefore impartial participants would consider fair. Besides, this method can satisfy the break-even requirement and provide appropriate economic signals to transactions, which can promote the rational distribution of power demands to reduce total system losses. Numerical example shows that the Shapley Value-based method for allocation of transmission losses is equitable and effective.

Abstract:In a dual-channel closed-loop supply chain,retailer's fairness concerns behavior is considered and the influences of some key parameters,such as fairness preference coefficient,competition level between two channels,used product's recycling ratio,on the optimal decision and coordination mechanism are analyzed.The results are shown as follows:Fairness concerns behavior lowers supply chain members' tolerance of competition level between two channels;intensified channel competition weakens fairness concerns' competence to reallocate chain members' profit;it is proved that profit sharing contract can be used to coordinate this supply chain and stronger fairness concern makes retailer lowers profit sharing proportion;the optimal recovery scale is reduced when the retailer has a stronger fairness concern,is enlarged when channel competition is more intensified.

Abstract:This paper studies a newsvendor game in which two substitutable products are sold by two different retailers (newsvendors) with loss-averse preferences. Each loss-averse retailer facing stochastic customer demand and deterministic substitution rate will make an order quantity decision to maximize his expected utility. Since product substitution causes two retailers to make decisions in a competitive environment, game theory is used to find the retailers' optimal order quantities. It is shown that under certain conditions, there exists a unique Nash equilibrium in the newsvendor game. Under a symmetry assumption, each retailer's equilibrium order quantity is decreasing in the loss aversion coefficient and increasing in the substitution rate. Further, if the effect of loss aversion on the order quantity is strong enough to dominate the effect of competition, the total inventory level of a decentralized supply chain will be lower than that of a centralized supply chain. Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate our results.
