Abstract:A novel wearable health monitoring system with multi-parameters and its applications for long term monitoring are presented in this paper. The system provides continuous monitoring of the user's electrocardiogram (ECG), respiratory status and activity, as well as the local temperature. A belt-type data acquisition and communication module worn around the chest includes ECG and respiratory module ADS1292R, six axis motion sensor MPU6050, high precision digital temperature sensor Tsic506 and bluetooth 4.0 module CC2541. The collected data is sent to the mobile device via bluetooth and the mobile device gives a heart health index of measuring the body status which includes heart rate, QRS wave, and ST segment. A remote interactive way is constructed by the mobile device communicating with the customer management center via WIFI.

Abstract:Through harvesting energy from the environment or human body, self-power wearable electronics have an opportunity to break through the limitations of battery supply and achieving long-term continuous operation. Here, a wireless wearable monitoring system driven entirely by body heat is implemented. Based on the principle of maximizing heat utilization, while optimizing internal resistance and heat dissipation, the stretchable TEG improves the power density of previous similar devices from only a few microwatts per square centimeter to tens and makes it possible to continuously drive wireless wearable electronic systems. Furthermore, ceaseless self-power energy gives wearable electronics unparalleled continuous working ability, which can realize the tracking and monitoring of biochemical and physiological indicators at different time scale. A practical system demonstrates the ability to real-time monitor heart rate, sweat ingredient and body motion at a high sampling rate. This study marks an important advance of self-powered wearable electronics for wirelessly real-time healthy monitoring.

Abstract:Advances in embedded devices and wireless sensor networks have resulted in new and inexpensive health care solutions. This paper describes the implementation and the evaluation of a wireless body sensor system that monitors human physiological data at home. Specifically, a waist-mounted triaxial accelerometer unit is used to record human movements. Sampled data are transmitted using an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless transceiver to a data logger unit. The wearable sensor unit is light, small, and consumes low energy, which allows for inexpensive and unobtrusive monitoring during normal daily activities at home. The acceleration measurement tests show that it is possible to classify different human motion through the acceleration reading. The 802.15.4 wireless signal quality is also tested in typical home scenarios. Measurement results show that even with interference from nearby IEEE 802.11 signals and microwave ovens, the data delivery performance is satisfactory and can be improved by selecting an appropriate channel. Moreover, we found that the wireless signal can be attenuated by housing materials, home appliances, and even plants. Therefore, the deployment of wireless body sensor systems at home needs to take all these factors into consideration.

Abstract:A CMOS MEMS accelerometer is proposed for long term in vivo real time "free" small animal activity monitoring. The activity information along with other vital physiological signals such as blood pressure, temperature, EKG, etc. are critical for advanced biological and genetic research. The prototype sensor is designed and fabricated in a commercial 1.5 mum CMOS process, exhibiting a nominal sensing capacitance value of 540 fF with a designed sensitivity of 15 f/Fg and self resonance of 3 kHz. The device occupies an area of approximately 800 mum times 700 mum and can be integrated with CMOS interface and signal processing electronics on a same chip, thus substantially reducing form factor, power dissipation, and packaging complexity of the final implantable microsystem

Abstract:In the paper a ballistocardiographic sensor for remote monitoring of activity and vital parameters is presented. The sensor is mainly intended for use in monitoring systems supporting care of older people. It allows to detect occupancy of a piece of furniture, to which it is attached and to estimate basic vital parameters (heart and respiration rates) of the monitored person. The presented device includes three inertial sensors: two accelerometers of different parameters and prices and one reference BCG module. The device sends the measurement results to the external server over WiFi. The vital parameters are estimated based on the Continuous Wavelet Transform of the registered acceleration signals. User's presence is detected by tracking changes in acceleration measured in axes parallel to the ground.

Abstract:A low-power wearable wireless sensor measuring both molecular biomarkers and physiological signals is proposed, where the former are measured by a microfluidic biosensing system while the latter are measured electrically. The low-power consumption of the sensor is achieved by an all-analog circuit implementing Analog Joint Source-Channel Coding (AJSCC) compression. Abstract:With the increase in people's concern for personal health, the demand for convenient health monitoring electronics has grown noticeably. Wearable physiological sensors with multi-functionality and continuous power supply are constructed through system-level integration and delicate circuit design for energy management and low-power sensing. Energy harvested from body motion and solar or domestic lighting has great potential in powering wearable electronics, eliminating the need of batteries or plug-in power sources. Triboelectric nanogenerators readily fabricated with digital ink-jet printing display a high-power output of 30.96 mW cm −2 after integration with a flexible thin-film solar cell, which ensures unremitting work of the sensors. The self-powered physiological monitoring system can continuously monitor and wirelessly transmit the electrocardiogram, blood pressure, temperature, and motion parameters of the human in real-time without the need for an external power source, providing the wearer with a reliable monitoring means.

Abstract:AbstractWearable human-interactive devices have used in many application scenarios, such as medical, security, and fitness. With the emerging use of wearable sensors, they make it possible that people can monitor their physical data with accurate and reliable information in exercise, thereby ensuring exercise intensity within risk-free and moderate physical pressure. Heart rate was acquired by the photoplethysmography (PPG) module to evaluate Heart-rate recovery (HRR); this index regarded as the effectiveness of the aerobic exercise. Respiration could also be proposed as a marker of training intensity; the authors attempted using the non-invasive method to acquire the respiration rate in order to evaluate the strength of aerobic exercise. Global Position System (GPS) module was used to offer location information during and after sports, so as to provide and to match route information in intensity evaluation. In this study, the authors integrate three main signals (heart rate, respiration, and location information) into a fanny bag based on multimodal sensors and wireless transmission module. Moreover, we construct an online monitoring system for showing the signals during and after the aerobic exercise in order to help the athlete and the amateur to evaluate the intensity of aerobic exercise and the effectiveness of sports, and to improve their sports performance.

Abstract:Human activity monitoring based on wearable sensors is important in a wide range of biomedical and healthcare applications. Existing wearable sensors using a single unit cannot capture the movements of all body segments. This article presents a novel wearable electrostatic sensor that can detect limb and torso movements during routine daily activities from any location on the body. Because the electric potential of the human body varies during movements, the sensor measures the potential difference between the body and the electrode for motion sensing. A charge amplifier converts the induced charge on the electrode into a voltage signal, which is further amplified, filtered, digitalized, and transmitted via ZigBee. The experimental assessment was carried out by collecting sensor signals from three locations simultaneously while the subject performed different movements. The capability of the sensor to capture limb and torso movements from any location is validated. The characteristics of the sensor are quantified by correlating the sensor signal to simple and cyclic movements. It is found that the sensor signal depends on the sensor's mounting location on the body, the type of activity, and various factors.

Abstract:This paper presents a wearable accelerometer-based device for monitoring multiple physiological parameters of human body in sleep. Dual tri-axis accelerometers were attached on left and right chests of body for acquiring six-degree acceleration components. By using an advanced algorithm of signal processing and data fusion, the thoracic respiration, heartbeat, as well as body posture and activity were extracted simultaneously. Several experiments were conducted to validate the methodology. The developed accelerometer-based device could be applied to monitor OSA, CSA and MSA events in human sleep, and is simple, wearable, wireless, and low-cost.

Abstract:As an important part of Human activity the body movement is related to the health and the dicease status of human beings.There have been many ways to evaluate the body activity.We have demonstrated a new theory that the absolute value of the body acceleration integrated to time is related linearly to the body energy expenditure.Based on this theory a device has been developed to measure the body energy expenditure in the case of field activity.A new integrated acceleration sensor was introduced in this device in order to measure the acceleration signal accurately.The integrated signal is feed into a PIC computer and processed,then the activity amount result is displayed and stored.This device is portable,intelligent and works by batteries.It has wide applicaton value.

Abstract:Real-time personalized motion monitoring and analysis are important for human health. Thus, to satisfy the needs in this area and the ever-increasing demand for wearable electronics, we design and develop a wireless piezoelectric device consisting of a piezoelectric pressure sensor based on electrospun PVDF/BaTiO3 nanowire (NW) nanocomposite fibers and a wireless circuit system integrated with a data conversion control module, a signal acquisition and amplification module, and a Bluetooth module. Finally, real-time piezoelectric signals of human motion can be displayed by an App on an Android mobile phone for wireless monitoring and analysis. This wireless piezoelectric device is proven to be sensitive to human motion such as squatting up and down, walking, and running. The results indicate that our wireless piezoelectric device has potential applications in wearable medical electronics, particularly in the fields of rehabilitation and sports medicine.

Abstract:Abstract Physiological mechano-acoustic signals play a pivotal role in medical diagnosis and fitness monitoring. Mechanical waves generated by natural physiological activities such as myocardial contraction, and vocal fold vibration, propagate through the tissues and fluids of the body and reveal characteristic signals of these events. Conventional methods such as stethoscope and electrocardiography (ECG) are not suitable for wearable mode and continuous monitoring. In this paper, we propose a wearable physiological sounds sensing device to monitor heart sound and detect speech and voice with high accuracy. The device consists of a MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) acoustic sensor and a low-noise amplification circuit, and both of them are packaged by silicone polymers with an air cavity to achieve conformal contact with human skin. The proposed device has advantages of light weight, sweatproof capability, resistant to noise and good stability. The wearable device has great potential in clinical diagnosis, healthcare, human-machine interaction and many other applications.

Abstract:Pulse wave monitoring is critical for the evaluation of human health. In this paper, a wearable multi-sensor pulse wave monitoring system is proposed and demonstrated. The monitoring system consists of a measuring unit and an analog circuit processing unit. The main part of the measuring unit is a flexible printed circuit board (PCB) with a thickness of 0.15 mm, which includes three micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) pressure sensors softly packaged by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), a blood oxygen detector and a MEMS three-axis accelerometer. The MEMS pressure sensors,the blood oxygen detector and the accelerometer are fixed on the expected locations of the flexible PCB. The analog circuit processing unit includes a power supply module, a filter and an amplifier. The pulse waves of two volunteers are detected by the monitoring system in this study. The output signals of the analog circuit processing module are processed and analyzed. In the preliminary test, the time delay of the three pressure pulse waves has been detected and the calculated pulse wave velocities (PWVs) are 12.50 and 11.36 m/s, respectively. The K value, related to the area of the pulse wave, can be obtained. Both the PWV and K value meet the health parameter standards.

Abstract:With the growing attention on personal health, keeping track of the health related parameters has become an important issue, which is quite useful to increase people's living quality and reduce unpredicted risks. However, conventional physical checks are discrete and transient, which is incapable for the health monitor of daily living. Dedicated to everyday physiological monitor, we have developed a multi-parameter smart armband which is able record pulse, temperature and triaxial accelerations continuously. With the wearable device and signal processing algorithm, experiments of data acquisition in the daily living have been implemented on the volunteers. The long period record of 38 hours has demonstrated its feasibility of a total record without disturbing. And both historical and cross comparisons on the parameter correlation analysis have proven the valuable health information that the armband could reveal. As an integrated sensor module, the smart armband is simple and non-obtrusive, thus opens a promising approach towards the pervasive health monitor, especially for the elder population.

Abstract:Skin-mounted soft electronics that incorporate high-bandwidth triaxial accelerometers can capture broad classes of physiologically relevant information, including mechano-acoustic signatures of underlying body processes (such as those measured by a stethoscope) and precision kinematics of core-body motions. Here, we describe a wireless device designed to be conformally placed on the suprasternal notch for the continuous measurement of mechano-acoustic signals, from subtle vibrations of the skin at accelerations of around 10−3 m s−2 to large motions of the entire body at about 10 m s−2, and at frequencies up to around 800 Hz. Because the measurements are a complex superposition of signals that arise from locomotion, body orientation, swallowing, respiration, cardiac activity, vocal-fold vibrations and other sources, we exploited frequency-domain analysis and machine learning to obtain—from human subjects during natural daily activities and exercise—real-time recordings of heart rate, respiration rate, energy intensity and other essential vital signs, as well as talking time and cadence, swallow counts and patterns, and other unconventional biomarkers. We also used the device in sleep laboratories and validated the measurements using polysomnography. A wireless device designed to be conformally placed on the suprasternal notch can continuously provide real-time information of essential vital signs as well as talking time, swallow counts and sleep patterns.
Physiological Index Monitoring of Wearable Sports Training Based on a Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract:According to the development needs of wireless sensor networks, this paper uses the combination of embedded system and wireless sensor network technology to design a network node platform. This platform is equipped with a sports training sensor module to measure the physiological indicators of the ward in real time. The network node sends the collected physiological parameters to a remote monitoring center in real time. First, according to the generation mechanism of the physiological index signal and the characteristics of the physiological index signal, the wireless sensor network analysis and processing method are used to denoise the physiological index signal, and the wireless sensor network package is used to extract the characteristics of the physiological index, indicating different types of respiration. The energy characteristics of the sound physiological index signals are different, which verifies the feasibility of the independent component analysis method for separating the physiological index and the physiological index signal of the heart sound. Secondly, the hardware system of physiological index signal acquisition is designed, and the selection principle of the hardware unit is introduced. At the same time, the system structure of the monitor is designed, and then, the wireless sensor network sensor node is researched, the hardware of the wearable monitor system is designed, and the hardware architecture and working mode based on the single-chip MSP430F149 are given. Finally, the wireless hardware platform includes the following main modules: sensor part, preprocessing circuit module, microprocessing module based on MSP430 low power consumption, wireless transceiver module based on RF chip CC2420, and power supply unit used to provide energy.
