Abstract:Let H(n; q, n1, n2, n3, n4) be a unicyclic graph with n vertices containing a cycle Cq and four hanging paths Pn1+1, Pn2+1, Pn3+1 and Pn4+1 attached at the same vertex of the cycle. In this paper, it is proved that all unicyclic graphs H(n; q, n1, n2, n3, n4) are determined by their Laplacian spectra.

Abstract:Let G be a graph with n vertices, let A(G) be an adjacency matrix of G and let P-A(G,lambda) be the characteristic polynomial of A(G). The adjacency spectrum of G consists of eigenvalues of A(G). A graph G is said to be determined by its adjacency spectrum (DS for short) if other graphs with the same adjacency spectrum as G are isomorphic to G. In this paper, we investigate the spectral characterization of unicycle graphs with only two vertices of degree three. We use G(21)(s(1),s(2)) to denote the graph obtained from Q(s(1),s(2)) by identifying its pendant vertex and the vertex of degree two of P-3, where Q(s(1),s(2)) is the graph obtained by identifying a vertex of C-s1 and a pendant vertex of P-s2. We use G(31)(t(1),t(2)) to denote the graph obtained from circle with the vertices v(0)v(1)...v(t1+t2+1) by adding one pendant edge at vertices v(0) and v(t1+1), respectively. It is shown that G(21)(s(1),s(2)) (s(1)not equal 4,6, s(1)>= 3, s(2)>= 3) and G(31)(t(1),t(2)) (t(1)+t(2)not equal 2, t(2)>= t(1)>= 1) are determined by their adjacency spectrum.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a method to characterize graphs determined by their adjacency spectrum. At first, we give two parameters Π1(G) and Π2(G), which are related to coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of graph G. All connected graphs with Π1(G)∈{1,0,−1,−2,−3} and Π2(G)∈{0,−1,−2,−3} are characterized. Some interesting properties of Π1(G) and Π2(G) are also given. We then find the necessary and sufficient conditions for two classes of graphs to be determined by their adjacency spectrum.

Abstract:For a connected graph $G$, the distance Laplacian spectral radius of $G$ is the spectral radius of its distance Laplacian matrix $\mathcal{L}(G)$ defined as $\mathcal{L}(G)=Tr(G)-D(G)$, where $Tr(G)$ is a diagonal matrix of vertex transmissions of $G$ and $D(G)$ is the distance matrix of $G$. Abstract:In this paper, we characterize all connected graphs with exactly three distinct normalized Laplacian eigenvalues of which one is equal to $1$, determine all connected bipartite graphs with at least one vertex of degree $1$ having exactly four distinct normalized Laplacian eigenvalues, and find all unicyclic graphs with three or four distinct normalized Laplacian eigenvalues.

Abstract:Let G be a graph and let mG[0,1) denote the number of Laplacian eigenvalues of G in the interval [0,1) . For a tree T with diameter d , Guo, Xue, and Liu proved that mT[0,1)≥(d+1)/3 . In this paper, we provide a lower bound for mG[0,1) when G is a unicyclic graph, in terms of the diameter and girth of G . Moreover, for the lollipop graph, under certain conditions on its diameter and girth, we give a formula for the exact value of mG[0,1) .

Abstract:The permanent of a square matrix is , where the sum is taken over all permutations of the set . For a simple connected graph G , its signless Laplacian matrix Q ( G ) is , where D ( G ) is the degree diagonal matrix and A ( G ) is the adjacency matrix of G . The signless Laplacian permanental polynomial of G is . In this paper, we give the representation of a graph with two types of degrees, and 1, in terms of its signless Laplacian permanental polynomial. The unicyclic graphs discussed here are UC ( r , d ), where the unique cycle is with all whose vertices have degree , and the remaining are degree 1 vertices. We show that UC ( r , d ) is determined uniquely by its signless Laplacian permanental polynomial for and for any d . We also prove that the unicyclic graph obtained from UC ( r , d ) by making new vertices adjacent to a pendant vertex, is also determined uniquely by its signless Laplacian permanental polynomial, for . Finally, we show that among all connected graphs, UC ( r , 3), for every , is determined uniquely by its signless Laplacian permanental polynomial.

Abstract: Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$ and $Q_G(x)= det(xI-Q(G))= \sum_{i=1}^n (-1)^i \varphi_i x^{n-i}$ be the characteristic polynomial of the signless Laplacian matrix of a graph $G$. We give some transformations of $G$ which decrease all signless Laplacian coefficients in the set $\mathcal{B}(n)$ of all $n$-vertex bicyclic graphs. $\mathcal{B}^1(n)$ denotes all n-vertex bicyclic graphs with at least one odd cycle. We show that $B_n^1$ (obtained from $C_4$ by adding one edge between two non-adjacent vertices and adding $n-4$ pendent vertices at the vertex of degree 3) minimizes all the signless Laplacian coefficients in the set $\mathcal{B}^1(n)$. Moreover, we prove that $B_n^2$ (obtained from $K_{2,3}$ by adding $n-5$ pendent vertices at one vertex of degree 3) has minimum signless Laplacian coefficients in the set $\mathcal{B}^2(n)$ of all $n$-vertex bicyclic graphs with two even cycles.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$ and let $\mathcal{L}(G,\lambda)=\sum_{k=0}^n (-1)^{k}c_{k}(G)\lambda^{n-k}$ be the characteristic polynomial of its Laplacian matrix. Motivated by Ili\'{c} and Ili\'{c}'s conjecture [A. Ili\'{c}, M. Ili\'{c}, Laplacian coefficients of trees with given number of leaves or vertices of degree two, Linear Algebra and its Applications 431(2009)2195-2202.] on all extremal graphs which minimize all the Laplacian coefficients in the set $\mathcal{U}_{n,l}$ of all $n$-vertex unicyclic graphs with the number of leaves $l$, we investigate properties of the minimal elements in the partial set $(\mathcal{U}_{n,l}^g, \preceq)$ of the Laplacian coefficients, where $\mathcal{U}_{n,l}^g$ denote the set of $n$-vertex unicyclic graphs with the number of leaves $l$ and girth $g$. These results are used to disprove their conjecture. Moreover, the graphs with minimum Laplacian-like energy in $\mathcal{U}_{n,l}^g$ are also studied.

Abstract:The numbers of spanning connected unicyclic subgraphs and spanning connected bicyclic subgraphs are essential parameters in studying network reliability. However, these two parameters have hardly been studied. Only in 1983, Liu studied the enumeration of spanning connected unicyclic(bicyclic) subgraphs, which is mainly calculated by the determinant of the cycle adjacency matrix. But for large networks, the calculation of the determinant of cycle adjacency matrix is extremely complex. In this paper, we present a reduction method to compute the number of spanning connected unicyclic(bicyclic) subgraphs of 2-separable networks. As an application, we enumerate the number of spanning connected unicyclic(bicyclic) subgraphs in fractal scale-free networks by linear algorithm. The exact expression of the number of spanning connected unicyclic(bicyclic) subgraphs is obtained. On this basis, the entropy of the number of spanning connected unicyclic(bicyclic) subgraphs is determined. This research provides helpful guidance for computing the number of spanning connected unicyclic(bicyclic) subgraphs of general 2-connected networks.

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to address the open questions raised in various recent papers regarding characterization of circulant graphs with three or four distinct eigenvalues in their spectra. Our focus is on providing characterizations and constructing classes of graphs falling under this specific category. We present a characterization of circulant graphs with prime number order and unitary Cayley graphs with arbitrary order, both of which possess spectra displaying three or four distinct eigenvalues. Various constructions of circulant graphs with composite orders are provided whose spectra consist of four distinct eigenvalues. These constructions primarily utilize specific subgraphs of circulant graphs that already possess two or three eigenvalues in their spectra, employing graph operations like the tensor product, the union, and the complement. Finally, we characterize the iterated line graphs of unitary Cayley graphs whose spectra contain three or four distinct eigenvalues, and we show their non-circulant nature.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the properties of the largest signless Laplacian spectral radius in the set of all simple connected graphs with a given degree sequence. These results are used to characterize the unicyclic graphs that have the largest signless Laplacian spectral radius for a given unicyclic graphic degree sequence. Moreover, all extremal unicyclic graphs having the largest signless Laplacian spectral radius are obtained in the sets of all unicyclic graphs of order n with a specified number of leaves or maximum degree or independence number or matching number.

Abstract:A infinity-graph is a graph consisting of two cycles with just a vertex in common. We first look for some invariants for cospectral graphs, then we introduce a new method to determine the degree sequence of cospectral mates of a graph. In this paper, we prove that all infinity-graphs without triangles are determined by their Laplacian spectra and that all infinity-graphs, with one exception, are determined by their signless Laplacian spectra. For the exception we determine all graphs that are cospectral (w.r.t. signless Laplacian spectrum) to it. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Let A(G) and D(G) be the adjacency matrix and the vertex degree matrix of a graph G, respectively. The Laplacian matrix of G is defined as L(G)=D(G)−A(G). The L-index of G, denoted by μ(G), is the largest root of the characteristic polynomial of L(G). The Laplacian Hoffman limit value H(L) is the limit of μ(Hn), where the graph Hn is obtained by attaching a pendant edge to the cycle Cn-1 of length n-1. It is known that H(L)=2+ϵ, where ϵ is the largest root of x3-4x-4. In this paper we characterize the structure of graphs whose L-index does not exceed 4.5, and we completely describe those graphs whose L-index does not exceed H(L). By doing so we complete the so-called Hoffman program w.r.t. the Laplacian theory of graph spectra.

Abstract:Spectrum graph theory not only facilitate comprehensively reflect the topological structure and dynamic characteristics of networks, but also offer significant and noteworthy applications in theoretical chemistry, network science and other fields. Let $L_{n}^{8,4}$ represent a linear octagonal-quadrilateral network, consisting of $n$ eight-member ring and $n$ four-member ring. The Möbius graph $Q_{n}(8,4)$ is constructed by reverse identifying the opposite edges, whereas cylinder graph $Q'_{n}(8,4)$ identifies the opposite edges by order. In this paper, the explicit formulas of Kirchhoff indices and complexity of $Q_{n}(8,4)$ and $Q'_{n}(8,4)$ are demonstrated by Laplacian characteristic polynomials according to decomposition theorem and Vieta's theorem. In surprise, the Kirchhoff index of $Q_{n}(8,4)$($Q'_{n}(8,4)$) is approximately one-third half of its Wiener index as $n\to\infty$.

Abstract:Determining and analyzing the spectra of graphs is an important and exciting research topic in theoretical computer science. The eigenvalues of the normalized Laplacian of a graph provide information on its structural properties and also on some relevant dynamical aspects, in particular those related to random walks. In this paper, we give the spectra of the normalized Laplacian of iterated subdivisions of simple connected graphs. As an example of application of these results we find the exact values of their multiplicative degree-Kirchhoff index, Kemeny's constant and number of spanning trees.
