Abstract:Let G be a graph with n vertices, let A(G) be an adjacency matrix of G and let P-A(G,lambda) be the characteristic polynomial of A(G). The adjacency spectrum of G consists of eigenvalues of A(G). A graph G is said to be determined by its adjacency spectrum (DS for short) if other graphs with the same adjacency spectrum as G are isomorphic to G. In this paper, we investigate the spectral characterization of unicycle graphs with only two vertices of degree three. We use G(21)(s(1),s(2)) to denote the graph obtained from Q(s(1),s(2)) by identifying its pendant vertex and the vertex of degree two of P-3, where Q(s(1),s(2)) is the graph obtained by identifying a vertex of C-s1 and a pendant vertex of P-s2. We use G(31)(t(1),t(2)) to denote the graph obtained from circle with the vertices v(0)v(1)...v(t1+t2+1) by adding one pendant edge at vertices v(0) and v(t1+1), respectively. It is shown that G(21)(s(1),s(2)) (s(1)not equal 4,6, s(1)>= 3, s(2)>= 3) and G(31)(t(1),t(2)) (t(1)+t(2)not equal 2, t(2)>= t(1)>= 1) are determined by their adjacency spectrum.

Abstract:We study the spectral radius of graphs with n vertices and k cut edges. In this paper, we show that of all the connected graphs with n vertices and k cut edges, the maximal spectral radius is obtained uniquely at Knk, where Knk is a graph obtained by joining k independent vertices to one vertex of Kn−k. We also discuss the limit point of the maximal spectral radius.

Abstract:For a connected graph $G$, the distance Laplacian spectral radius of $G$ is the spectral radius of its distance Laplacian matrix $\mathcal{L}(G)$ defined as $\mathcal{L}(G)=Tr(G)-D(G)$, where $Tr(G)$ is a diagonal matrix of vertex transmissions of $G$ and $D(G)$ is the distance matrix of $G$. In this paper, we determine the unique graphs with maximum distance Laplacian spectral radius among unicyclic graphs.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the relationship between spectral radius and maximum average degree of graphs. By using this relationship and the previous technique of Li and Ning in (J Graph Theory 103:486–492, 2023), we prove that, for any given positive number , if n is a sufficiently large integer, then any graph G of order n with contains a cycle of length t for all integers , where is the spectral radius of G . This improves the result of Li and Ning (2023).

Abstract:The spectral radius of a uniform hypergraph is defined to be that of the adjacency tensor of the hypergraph. It is known that the unique unicyclic hypergraph with the largest spectral radius is a nonlinear hypergraph, and the unique linear unicyclic hypergraph with the largest spectral radius is a power hypergraph. In this paper we determine the unique linear unicyclic hypergraph with the second or third largest spectral radius, where the former hypergraph is a power hypergraph and the latter hypergraph is a non-power hypergraph.

The revised edge Szeged index of $G$ is defined as $Sz^{\ast}_{e}(G)=\sum\limits_{e=uv\in E(G)}(m_{u}(e|G)+\frac{m_{0}(e|G)}{2})(m_{v}(e|G)+\frac{m_{0}(e|G)}{2})$, where $m_{u}(e|G)$ (resp., $m_{v}(e|G)$) is the number of edges whose distance to vertex $u$ (resp., $v$) is smaller than the distance to vertex $v$ (resp., $u$), and $m_{0}(e|G)$ is the number of edges equidistant from both ends of $e$, respectively. In this paper, the graphs with minimum revised edge Szeged index among all the unicyclic graphs with given diameter are characterized.

Abstract:A connected $k$-uniform hypergraph with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges is called $r$-cyclic if $n=m(k-1)-r+1$. For $r=1$ or $2$, the hypergraph is simply called unicyclic or bicyclic. In this paper we investigate hypergraphs that attain larger spectral radii among all simple connected $k$-uniform unicyclic and bicyclic hypergraphs. Specifically, by using some edge operations, the formula on power hypergraph eigenvalues, the weighted incidence matrix and a result on linear unicyclic hypergraphs, we determined the first five hypergraphs with larger spectral radius among all unicyclic hypergraphs and the first three over all bicyclic hypergraphs.

Abstract:A graph $G$ is said to have the Hereditarily Bounded Property $P_{t,r}$ if, for each subgraph $H$ of $G$ containing at least $t$ vertices, the size of $H$ satisfies $|E(H)| \leq t \cdot |V(H)| + r$. In 1996, Guiduli proposed the following problem: If a graph $G$ possesses the property $P_{t,r}$, where $t$ is a positive real number and $r$ is a real number such that $r \geq -\binom{\lfloor t+1 \rfloor}{2}$, does it follow that the spectral radius $\rho(G)$ is upper-bounded by $c(s,t) + \sqrt{\lfloor t \rfloor n}$, where $s = \binom{t+1}{2} + r$? In this paper, we provide an affirmative resolution to Guiduli's problem.

Abstract:Here we study the spectral radii of some linear hypergraphs, that is, the maximum moduli of the eigenvalues of their corresponding adjacency matrices. We determine the hypertrees having the largest to seventh-largest spectral radii. The hypertrees with the largest and the second-largest spectral radii among all those with a given diameter are identified here. Unicyclic hypergraphs with a fixed cycle length having the largest, the second-largest, and the third-largest spectral radii are also determined. Furthermore, we also find which bicyclic and tricyclic linear hypergraphs have the largest and the second-largest spectral radii.

Abstract:The spectral radius of a graph is the largest eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix. A minimizer graph is such that minimizes the spectral radius among all connected graphs on n vertices with diameter d. The minimizer graphs are known for d∈{1,2}∪[n/2,2n/3−1]∪{n−k|k=1,2,…,8}. In this paper, we determine all minimizer graphs for d=2(n−1)/3.

Abstract:For a $hypergraph$ $\mathcal{G}=(V, E)$ with a nonempty vertex set $V=V(\mathcal{G})$ and an edge set $E=E(\mathcal{G})$, its $adjacency$ $matrix$ $\mathcal {A}_{\mathcal{G}}=[(\mathcal {A}_{\mathcal{G}})_{ij}]$ is defined as $(\mathcal {A}_{\mathcal{G}})_{ij}=\sum_{e\in E_{ij}}\frac{1}{|e| - 1}$, where $E_{ij} = \{e\in E\, |\, i, j \in e\}$. The $spectral$ $radius$ of a hypergraph $\mathcal{G}$, denoted by $\rho(\mathcal {G})$, is the maximum modulus among all eigenvalues of $\mathcal {A}_{\mathcal{G}}$. In this paper, we get a formula about the spectral radius which link the ordinary graph and the hypergraph, and represent some results on the spectral radius changing under some graphic structural perturbations. Among all $k$-uniform ($k\geq 3$) unicyclic hypergraphs with fixed number of vertices, the hypergraphs with the minimum, the second the minimum spectral radius are completely determined, respectively; among all $k$-uniform ($k\geq 3$) unicyclic hypergraphs with fixed number of vertices and fixed girth, the hypergraphs with the maximum spectral radius are completely determined; among all $k$-uniform ($k\geq 3$) $octopuslike$ hypergraphs with fixed number of vertices, the hypergraphs with the minimum spectral radius are completely determined. As well, for $k$-uniform ($k\geq 3$) $lollipop$ hypergraphs, we get that the spectral radius decreases with the girth increasing.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{G}(m,k)$ be the set of graphs with size $m$ and odd girth (the length of shortest odd cycle) $k$. In this paper, we determine the graph maximizing the spectral radius among $\mathcal{G}(m,k)$ when $m$ is odd. As byproducts, we show that, there is a number $\eta(m,k)>\sqrt{m-k+3}$ such that every non bipartite graph $G$ with size $m$ and spectral radius $\rho\ge \eta(m,k)$ must contain an odd cycle of length less than $k$ unless $m$ is odd and $G\cong SK_{k,m}$, which is the graph obtained by subdividing an edge $k-2$ times of the complete bipartite graph $K_{2,\frac{m-k+2}{2}}$. This result implies the main results of Zhai and Shu [Discrete Math. 345 (2022)] and settles a conjecture of Li and Peng [The Electronic J. Combin. 29 (4) (2022)] as well.

Abstract:Given a connected graph G , its Lanzhou index is Lz(G)=∑v∈V(G)d(v)2[n−1−d(v)] , where n is the order and d(v) is the degree of v∈G . As usual with topological indices and their meaning in Chemical Graph Theory, we are interested in determining the graphs maximizing or minimizing the considered index. We show that by applying the majorization method, we identify all unified extremal trees with maximum Lanzhou index among the trees of order n and diameter d≥8 . Using the same method, we identify the unified extremal unicyclic graphs with maximum Lanzhou index among the unicyclic graphs of order n and diameter d≥9 with n≥3d−8 .

Abstract:For a connected graph, the distance spectral radius is the largest eigenvalue of its distance matrix, and the distance energy is defined as the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of its distance matrix. We establish lower and upper bounds for the distance spectral radius of graphs and bipartite graphs, lower bounds for the distance energy of graphs, and characterize the extremal graphs. We also discuss upper bounds for the distance energy.
