Abstract:This paper presents an efficient strategy to solve the satisfiability (SAT) problem for RTL designs. Boolean DPLL algorithm is extended into a unified procedure to solve the hybrid constraints combining the Boolean logic and arithmetic operations, and an efficient modeling method of RTL circuits is adopted. Powerful constraint propagation in both domains and efficient learning on the interface and arithmetic part are applied. The main contributions of this paper are the integration of constraint propagations in both domains and the propagating methods in word-level part using arithmetic operations. The experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of our approach.

Abstract:SAT problem is a NP-complete. Many SAT benchmarks that come from the different real life SAT problems are proposed to verify the performance of solvers. Our research focuses on the Model RB benchmark which can be mapped by the coloring problem and others. We propose a translating method based on set for Model RB instances of CNF formulas, and a complete search algorithm. We use the weight of clauses based on the set to determine the order of the search. The results show our solver has the best runtime for the mostly instances and is comparable to the best SAT solvers.

Abstract:This paper introduces AlphaMapleSAT, a novel Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) based Cube-and-Conquer (CnC) SAT solving method aimed at efficiently solving challenging combinatorial problems. Despite the tremendous success of CnC solvers in solving a variety of hard combinatorial problems, the lookahead cubing techniques at the heart of CnC have not evolved much for many years. Part of the reason is the sheer difficulty of coming up with new cubing techniques that are both low-cost and effective in partitioning input formulas into sub-formulas, such that the overall runtime is minimized.

AutoSAT: Automatically Optimize SAT Solvers via Large Language Models

Abstract:Heuristics are crucial in SAT solvers, but no heuristic rules are suitable for all SAT problems. Therefore, it is helpful to refine specific heuristics for specific problems. In this context, we present AutoSAT, a novel framework for automatically optimizing heuristics in SAT solvers. AutoSAT is based on Large Language Models (LLMs) which is able to autonomously generate codes, conduct evaluation, and then utilize feedback to further optimize heuristics, thereby reducing human intervention and enhancing solver capabilities. AutoSAT operates on a plug-and-play basis, eliminating the need for extensive enterprise and model training, and fosters a Multi-Agent-based collaborative process with fault tolerance to ensure robust heuristic optimization. We implement AutoSAT on a lightweight Conflict-Driven Clause Learning (CDCL) solver EasySAT (the volume of EasySAT is about one-fiftieth of the State-of-the-Art hybrid solver Kissat) and extensive experiments on seven datasets demonstrate its superior performance. Out of the seven testing datasets, AutoSAT shows a superior performance to Kissat in two datasets and displays an overall similar performance in three datasets. Some heuristics generated by AutoSAT are even counter-intuitive but are very effective.

Abstract:Using both quasiphysical and quasisociological methods, in conjunction with an inheriting strategy, a new way strategy and a pardon strategy was proposed for efficiently solving the SAT problem. An intuitive explanation is given for the Bart Selman random walk strategy. A new algorithm, Solar, was devised by combining these strategies. The new algorithm is shown to be both faster and stabler than the heretofore best algorithm.
Between SAT and UNSAT: The Fundamental Difference in CDCL SAT

Abstract:The way CDCL SAT solvers find a satisfying assignment is very different from the way they prove unsatisfiability. We propose an explanation to the difference by identifying direct connections to the workings of some of the most important elements in CDCL solvers: the effects of restarts and VSIDS, and the roles of learned clauses. We give a wide range of concrete evidence that highlights the varying effects and roles of these elements. As a result, this paper also sheds a new light on the internal workings of CDCL. Based on our reasoning on the difference in solver behaviors, we present several ideas for optimizing SAT solvers for either SAT or UNSAT instances. We then show that we can achieve improvements on both SAT and UNSAT at the same time by judiciously exploiting the difference. We have implemented a hybrid idea mixing two different restart strategies on top of our new solver COMiniSatPS and observed substantial performance improvement.

Abstract:Existing methods provide varying algorithms for different types of Boolean satisfiability problems (SAT), lacking a general solution framework. Accordingly, this study proposes a unified framework DCSAT based on integer programming and reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm to solve different types of SAT problems such as MaxSAT, Weighted MaxSAT, PMS, WPMS. Specifically, we first construct a consolidated integer programming representation for four types of SAT problems by adjusting objective function coefficients. Secondly, we construct an appropriate reinforcement learning models based on the 0-1 integer programming for SAT problems. Based on the binary tree search structure, we apply the Monte Carlo tree search (MCTS) method on SAT problems. Finally, we prove that this method can find all optimal Boolean assignments based on Wiener-khinchin law of large Numbers. We experimentally verify that this paradigm can prune the unnecessary search space to find the optimal Boolean assignments for the problem. Furthermore, the proposed method can provide diverse labels for supervised learning methods for SAT problems.
A Divide and Conquer Approach to All Solutions Satisfiability Problem

Abstract:SAT, is one of the fundamental topics in computer science, which has a long history in AI. As a variant of SAT, the all solutions satisfiability problem(AllSAT) is widely used in the field of electronic design automation. It is to generate all or part solutions of a given SAT instance. The computational complexity of AllSAT is higher than general SAT, which leads to less research related and poor performance of existing AllSAT solvers. In this paper, we propose to solve AllSAT by a divide-and-conquer-based approach called DIV2, which solve more instances within the time limit. Besides, we present a segmentation strategy for DIV2, called Jaccard similarity segmentation, which improves the efficiency of DIV2. The experimental result shows that the method proposed in this paper, has a better performance than the state-of-the-art algorithms, with regarding to the number of instances solved and the total number of solutions found for SAT 2014 competition benchmark.

Abstract:The Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) problem is the key problem in computer theory and application. Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) has been addressed frequently to accelerate the SAT solving process in the last few years owing to its parallelism and flexibility. We have proposed a novel SAT solver based on an improved local search algorithm on the reconfigurable hardware platform. The new software preprocessing procedure and hardware architecture are involved to solve large-scale SAT problems instances. As compared with the past solvers, the proposed solver has the following advantages: the preprocessing technology can strongly improve the efficiency of solver; the strategy of strengthening the variable selection can avoid the same variable flipped continuously and repeatedly. It reduces the possibility of search falling into local minima. The experimental results indicate that the solver can solve problems of up to 32K variables/128K clauses without off-chip memory banks, and has better performance than previous works.
EHSAT: an Efficient RTL Satisfiability Solver Using an Extended DPLL Procedure.

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient algorithm to solve the satisfiability (SAT) problem for RTL designs using a complete hybrid branch-and-bound strategy with conflict-driven learning. The main framework is the extended Davis-Putnam-Logemann-Loveland procedure (DPLL) which is a unified procedure combining Boolean logic and arithmetic operations. A hybrid two-literal-watching scheme and interval reasoning based on RTL predicates are used as the powerful hybrid constraint propagation strategies. Conflict-based learning is also implemented as another important technique to enhance efficiency. Comparisons with a state-of-the-art RTL SAT solver, a SMT solver and an ILP solver show that EHSAT outperforms these solvers for RTL satisfiability problems.

EDA-Driven Preprocessing for SAT Solving

Abstract:Effective formulation of problems into Conjunctive Normal Form (CNF) is critical in modern Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) solving for optimizing solver performance. Addressing the limitations of existing methods, our Electronic Design Automation (EDA)-driven preprocessing framework introduces a novel methodology for preparing SAT instances, leveraging both circuit and CNF formats for enhanced flexibility and efficiency. Central to our approach is the integration of a new logic synthesis technique, guided by a reinforcement learning agent, and a novel cost-customized LUT mapping strategy, enabling efficient handling of diverse SAT challenges. By transforming the SAT competition benchmarks into circuit instances, our framework demonstrates substantial performance improvements, as evidenced by a 52.42% reduction on average compared to solving directly. Moreover, our framework achieves a remarkable 96.14% runtime reduction on average for a set of logic equivalence checking problems that exhibit inherent circuit structures. These results highlight the effectiveness and versatility of our approach in handling both CNF and circuit instances. The code is available at

Abstract:This paper introduces SATformer, a novel Transformer-based approach for the Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) problem. Rather than solving the problem directly, SATformer approaches the problem from the opposite direction by focusing on unsatisfiability. Specifically, it models clause interactions to identify any unsatisfiable sub-problems. Using a graph neural network, we convert clauses into clause embeddings and employ a hierarchical Transformer-based model to understand clause correlation. SATformer is trained through a multi-task learning approach, using the single-bit satisfiability result and the minimal unsatisfiable core (MUC) for UNSAT problems as clause supervision. As an end-to-end learning-based satisfiability classifier, the performance of SATformer surpasses that of NeuroSAT significantly. Furthermore, we integrate the clause predictions made by SATformer into modern heuristic-based SAT solvers and validate our approach with a logic equivalence checking task. Experimental results show that our SATformer can decrease the runtime of existing solvers by an average of 21.33%.

NLocalSAT: Boosting Local Search with Solution Prediction

Abstract:The Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT) is a famous NP-complete problem in computer science. An effective way for solving a satisfiable SAT problem is the stochastic local search (SLS). However, in this method, the initialization is assigned in a random manner, which impacts the effectiveness of SLS solvers. To address this problem, we propose NLocalSAT. NLocalSAT combines SLS with a solution prediction model, which boosts SLS by changing initialization assignments with a neural network. We evaluated NLocalSAT on five SLS solvers (CCAnr, Sparrow, CPSparrow, YalSAT, and probSAT) with instances in the random track of SAT Competition 2018. The experimental results show that solvers with NLocalSAT achieve 27% ~ 62% improvement over the original SLS solvers.

Abstract:This paper presents a heuristic polarity decision-making algorithm for solving Boolean satisfiability (SAT). The algorithm inherits many features of the current state-of-the-art SAT solvers, such as fast BCP, clause recording, restarts, etc. In addition, a preconditioning step that calculates the polarities of variables according to the cover distribution of Karnaugh map is introduced into DPLL procedure, which greatly reduces the number of conflicts in the search process. The proposed approach is implemented as a SAT solver named DiffSat. Experiments show that DiffSat can solve many “real-life” instances in a reasonable time while the best existing SAT solvers, such as Zchaff and MiniSat, cannot. In particular, DiffSat can solve every instance of Bart benchmark suite in less than 0.03 s while Zchaff and MiniSat fail under a 900 s time limit. Furthermore, DiffSat even outperforms the outstanding incomplete algorithm DLM in some instances.

Abstract:Uniform random satisfiability (URS) and hard random satisfiability (HRS) are two significant generalizations of random satisfiability (RS). Recently, great breakthroughs have been made on stochastic local search (SLS) algorithms for uniform RS, resulting in several state-of-the-art algorithms, e.g., Dimetheus, YalSAT, ProbSAT and Score2SAT. However, compared to the great progress of SLS on URS, the performance of SLS on HRS lags far behind. In this paper, we propose two global clause weighting schemes and a new hybrid scoring function called SA based on a linear combination of a property score and property age, and then apply a second-level-biased random walk strategy based on two clause weighting schemes and SA to develop a new SLS solver called BRSAP. To evaluate the performance of BRSAP, we conduct extensive experiments to compare BRSAP with state-of-the-art SLS solvers and complete solvers on HRS instances and URS instances from SAT Competition 2017 and SAT Competition 2018 as well as 4100 generated satisfiable large HRS and URS ones. The experiments illustrate that BRSAP obviously outperforms its competitors, indicating the effectiveness of BRSAP. We also analyze the effectiveness of the underlying ideas in BRSAP.

A Folding Strategy for SAT Solvers Based on Shannon's Expansion Theorem

Abstract:SAT problem has been an active research subject and many impressive SAT solvers have been proposed. Most of algorithms used in modern SAT solvers are based on tree structured searching strategy, combining with heuristic approaches to reduce the search space. In contrast to most existing solvers, we treat SAT problem as a logical optimization issue which can be solved by a logic minimizer. In this paper, we propose a Folding Strategy (FS) based on the Shannon's expansion theorem such that in every step, one variable is deducted and the size of search space is shrunk. The new method will find the solution after Karnaugh Map (K-Map) is folded no more than n (number of variables) times because search space is decreased by half in each folding step.

Abstract:Parallel SAT solvers are becoming mainstream. Their performance has made them win the past two SAT competitions consecutively and are in the limelight of research and industry. The problem is that it is not known exactly what is needed to make them perform even better; that is, how to make them solve more problems in less time. Also, it is also not know how well they scale in massive multi-core environments which, predictably, is the scenario of comming new hardware. In this paper we show that cache contention is a main culprit of a slowing down in scalability, and provide empirical results that for some type of searches, physically sharing the clause Database between threads is beneficial.

Abstract:Boolean satisfiability is a NP-hard problem in computer theoretic science. There are two types of SAT solvers, random local solver and DPLL-based complete solver. Some people have proposed hybrid SAT solvers that combined the advantage of them both. They have successfully applied them to solve large or hard random SAT problems and circuit related problems. However, these solvers often find over-satisfying assignments when solving some circuit related problems. In this paper, circuit observability is considered in hybrid SAT solver, which helps reduce the overhead caused by over-satisfying and prune the searching space. The experimental results show that our hybrid SAT solver is more efficient than other solvers for large and hard circuits.
