Impact of Environment Quality on People's Happiness

Abstract:This paper uses the OLG framework to study the impact mechanism of environment quality on the happiness of residents ,namely the consumer motivation to pursue healthy life.And then ,using the data from CGSS2010 ,it tests the above mechanism empirically.The result shows as follows :the household consumption increase with the intensitying of the severity of environment problems ,no matter whether residents care about environment problems or not ;the residents who pay attention to environment problems feel less happiness when environment problems are more serious ,and the happiness of those who do not pay attention are not be affected by the severity of environment problems ;residents′envi‐ronment awareness do not affect the willingness to protect environment ,but affect the willingness to pay for environment ,and the households who do not care about environment problems tend to be "free riders" ;the impacts of the severity of environment problems are different due to different areas and different types of pollutions ;the income gap changes residents′environment protection behaviors .
