Methodology for Assessing Health Risks of Residents Living near Incinerators Based on Multiple Pathways of Exposure to Combustor Emission

Abstract:Municipal waste incineration technology,because of its advantage such as rapid stabilization and excellent volume reduction of MSW,has become one of the most effective methods for urban solid waste management.Incinerators,however,are controversial in terms of their potential negative impacts on the environment and human health.Resulted from the occurrence of environmental safety incidents in history and increasing public consciousness of environmental protection,the health risk assessment focusing on the health effects on the residents living near to point source-incinerators has arising increasing attention,especially the emitted dioxin in the stack gases.In this paper,the emitted pathways of dioxins released from incinerators,and the overall methodology for assessing health risk of residents living near to incinerators have been systematically introduced,and it is hopeful to promote the public scientific understanding of the assessment methodology.
