Abstract:Within the one-dimensional tight-binding model;rnd chi-3 approximation, we have calculated four-wave-mixing (FWM) signals for a semiconductor superlattice in the presence of both static and high-frequency electric fields. When the exciton effect is negligible, the time-periodic field dynamically delocalizes the otherwise localized Wannier-Stark states, and accordingly quasienergy band structures are formed, and manifest in the FWM spectra as a series of equally separated continua. The width of each continuum is proportional to the joint width of the valence and conduction minibands and is independent of the Wannier-Stark index. The realistic homogeneous broadening blurs the continua into broad peaks, whose line shapes, far from the Lorentzian, vary with the delay time in the FWM spectra. The swinging range of the peaks is just the quasienergy bandwidth. The dynamical delocalization (DDL) also induces significant FWM signals well beyond the excitation energy window. When the Coulomb interaction is taken into account, the unequal spacing between the excitonic Wannier-Stark levels weakens the DDL effect, and the FWM spectrum is transformed into groups of discrete lines. Strikingly, the groups are evenly spaced by the ac field frequency, reflecting the characteristic of the quasienergy states. The homogeneous broadening again smears out the line structures, leading to the excitonic FWM spectra quite similar to those without the exciton effect. However, all these features predicted by the dynamical theory do not appear in a recent experiment [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 301 (1997)], in which, by using the static approximation the observed Wannier-Stark ladder with delay-time-dependent spacing in the FWM spectra is attributed to a temporally periodic dipole field, produced by the Bloch oscillation of electrons in real space. The contradiction between the dynamical theory and the experiments is discussed. In addition, our calculation indicates that the dynamical localization coherently enhances the time-integrated FWM signals. The feasibility of using such a technique to study the dynamical localization phenomena is shown. [S0163-1829(99)10607-6].

Abstract:The electron-phonon coupling in self-assembled InGaAs quantum dots is relatively weak at low light intensities, which means that the zero-phonon line in emission is strong compared to the phonon sideband. However, the coupling to acoustic phonons can be dynamically enhanced in the presence of an intense optical pulse tuned within the phonon sideband. Recent experiments have shown that this dynamic vibronic coupling can enable population inversion to be achieved when pumping with a blue-shifted laser and for rapid de-excitation of an inverted state with red detuning. In this paper we confirm the incoherent nature of the phonon-assisted pumping process and explore the temperature dependence of the mechanism. We also show that a combination of blue- and red-shifted pulses can create and destroy an exciton within a timescale 20 ps determined by the pulse duration and ultimately limited by the phonon thermalisation time.

Abstract:It is shown that superlattice structures undergo strong optical resonances near Bragg incidence, characterized by high energy density gains between the boundaries of the superlattice. These resonances actually correspond to antiresonances of the reflectivity R. The variations of R with the incident wavelength have been investigated with a Ti: sapphire tunable laser source and a good agreement between theory and experiment has been found. Besides, one can take advantage of this resonance to increase the backscattering of light by ultrasonic waves in superlattices, which occurs owing to the assistance of a reciprocal lattice vector.

Abstract:We perform Floquet spectroscopy in a GaAs double quantum dot system coupled to a high-impedance superconducting resonator. By applying microwave-induced consecutive passages under a double-resonance condition, we observe Landau-Zener-Stückelberg-Majorana interference patterns that stem from a cavity-assisted interference pattern modified by the depletion of the ground state. Our experimental results reveal the stationary state behavior of a strongly driven two-level system and are consistent with the simulations based on our theoretical model. This study provides an excellent platform for investigating the dynamics of Floquet states in the presence of strong driving.

Abstract:The remarkable acousto-optical properties of superlattices for light wavelength near the condition of the Bragg reflection at the interfaces are reported here for the first time. Because of the assistance of a reciprocal lattice vector in the phase-matching condition, the collinear coupling between the light and ultrasonic waves becomes possible in the superlattice. At the same time, the diffraction efficiency is strongly increased by an optical resonance effect in the superlattice. Acousto-optical devices based on semiconductor superlattice structures are proposed, which can be very efficient, rapid, and compact.
Floquet Engineering of Long-Range P-Wave Superconductivity: Beyond the High-Frequency Limit

Abstract:It has been shown that long-range p-wave superconductivity in a Kitaev chain can be engineered via an ac field with a high frequency [M. Benito et al., Phys. Rev. B 90, 205127 (2014)]. For its experimental realization, however, theoretical understanding of Floquet engineering with a broader range of driving frequencies becomes important. In this paper, focusing on the ac-driven tunneling interactions of a Kitaev chain, we investigate effects from the leading correction to the high-frequency limit on the emergentp-wave superconductivity. Importantly, we find new engineered long-range p-wave pairing interactions that can significantly alter the ones in the high-frequency limit at long interaction ranges. We also find that the leading correction additionally generates nearest-neighbor p-wave pairing interactions with a renormalized pairing energy, long-range tunneling interactions, and, in particular, multiple pairs of Floquet Majorana edge states that are destroyed in the high-frequency limit.

Abstract:The dynamics of Bloch electrons moving in a two-band superlattice driven by a dc-ac electric field is investigated. We show rigorously that (i) when the matching ratio between the Bloch frequency and the ac frequency is an integer, the spectrum is that of two quasi-energy bands; (ii) when the matching ratio is a rational, the spectrum is two interspaced fractional Wannier-Stark ladders; and (iii) each of these fractional ladders has an energy dispersion due to the interband coupling. We illustrate our findings by explicit calculations of the spectrum in the high-frequency case, and show how the energy dispersion is tuned by the ac field strength and how band collapse occurs.

Abstract:We report the first experimental demonstration of the interference-induced spectral line elimination predicted by Zhu and Scully [Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 388 (1996)] and Ficek and Rudolph [Phys. Rev. A 60, R4245 (1999)]. We drive an exciton transition of a self-assembled quantum dot in order to realize a twolevel system exposed to a bichromatic laser field and observe the nearly complete elimination of the resonance fluorescence spectral line at the driving laser frequency. This is caused by quantum interference between coupled transitions among the doubly dressed excitonic states, without population trapping. We also demonstrate a multiphoton ac Stark effect with shifted subharmonic resonances and dynamical modifications of resonance fluorescence spectra by using double dressing.

Abstract:A novel AC driving configuration is proposed for biased semiconductor superlattices, in which the THz driving is provided by an intense bichromatic cw laser in the visible light range. The frequency difference between two components of the laser is resonant with the Bloch oscillation. Thus, multi-photon processes mediated by the conduction (valence) band states lead to dynamical delocalization and localization of the valence (conduction) electrons, and to the formation and collapse of quasi-minibands. Thus, driven Bloch oscillators are predicted to generate persistent THz emission and harmonics of the dipole field, which are tolerant of the exciton and the relaxation effects.
Fano effect in an AB interferometer with a quantum dot side-coupled to a single Majorana bound state

Abstract:We study the conductance and interference effects through an AB interferometer with an embedded quantum dot (QD) side-coupled to a single Majorana bound state (MBS) by using non-equilibrium Green's function method. The energy levels appearing in the QD are calculated by diagonalizing the Hamiltonian of the embedded QD–MBS system. When the single QD energy level ϵ0 is set to 0, there are three discrete energy levels in the QD appearing at around ω=0, ±ϵM2+2λ2 due to the coupling with MBS where ϵM is the coupling strength between the two MBSs at the two ends of the nanowire and λ is the coupling strength between the MBS and the QD. Asymmetric Fano lineshapes are found around these levels in the conductance due to the interference between electrons traversing through different paths. The phase shift of electrons through the QD changes from π/2 to −π/2 at each of these three energy values. However, the phase does not vary smoothly between these three energy levels but shows severe changes from −π/2 to π/2 at ω=±ϵM2+λ2. As a comparison, we also study the similar AB interferometer in which the QD–MBS system is replaced by a normal QD–QD system or a simple single QD system, which shows only two or one Fano peak and the phase shifts from π/2 to −π/2 only at the Fano peaks. These differences reflect the distinct influences of Majorana bound state on the transport properties of AB interferometer.

Abstract:We investigate states of fermionic atoms across a broad Feshbach resonance in an optical superlattice which allows interaction only among a small number of lattice sites. The states are in general described by superpositions of atomic resonating valence bonds and dressed molecules. As one scans the magnetic field, level crossing is found between states with different symmetry properties, which may correspond to a quantum phase transition in the many-body case.

Abstract:Time-resolved spontaneous Raman spectroscopy serves as a probe for incoherent quasiparticle and collective excitation dynamics, and allows to distinguish symmetry changes across a photoinduced phase transition through the inelastic light scattering selection rules. Largely unexplored is the role of the Raman resonance enhancement in the time-domain, and the transient interaction between scattering from quasiparticles and collective excitations, with the latter interaction leading to a Fano interference. In this work, we report on the observation of a phonon Raman tensor quench and Fano interference after strong photoexcitation of an intrinsic semiconductor. We observed a dynamic phonon scattering rate asymmetry and spectral asymmetry through simultaneous detection of both the anti-Stokes and Stokes response. The asymmetric phonon scattering rate is ascribed to the combined effect of the transient phonon population and the reduction of the phonon Raman tensor resulting from the photoexcited hole population. This same hole population results in a strong enhancement of the Fano spectral asymmetry.

Quench dynamics of Fano-like resonances in the presence of the on-dot superconducting pairing

Abstract:We explore the electron dynamics of a system composed of double quantum dot embedded between metallic and superconducting leads in a T-shape geometry. In nanoscopic systems, where electron transfer between electrodes can be realized via different paths, interference effects play an important role. For double quantum dot system in the chosen geometry, interference of electrons transferred between electrodes via the interfacial quantum dot and electrons scattered on the side dot gives rise to Fano-like interference. If such a system is additionally coupled to a superconducting electrode, together with the well-understood Fano resonance an additional resonance appears on the opposite side of the Fermi level. In the recent work [Sci. Rep. 10, 2881 (2020)], we showed that this resonance occurs solely as a result of the local pairing of non-scattered electrons with scattered ones. In this work, considering the quench dynamics, we explore how much time is required for formation of each of these resonances. In particular, (i) we analyze the charge oscillations between subsystems; (ii) we estimate the time required for each resonance to achieve stable equilibrium upon an abrupt change of interdot connection; (iii) we discuss a typical energy and time scales for experiments on similar architectures.

Decoherence effect on the Fano lineshapes in double quantum dots coupled between normal and superconducting leads

Abstract:We investigate the Fano-type spectroscopic lineshapes of the T-shape double quantum dot coupled between the conducting and superconducting electrodes and analyze their stability on a decoherence. Because of the proximity effect the quantum interference patterns appear simultaneously at +/- epsilon_2, where epsilon_2 is an energy of the side-attached quantum dot. We find that decoherence gradually suppresses both such interferometric structures. We also show that at low temperatures another tiny Fano-type structure can be induced upon forming the Kondo state on the side-coupled quantum dot due to its coupling to the floating lead.

Abstract:We theoretically study the excitonic optical absorption in semiconductor superlattices irradiated by an intense terahertz (THz) laser polarized along the growth direction. We calculate the linear excitonic absorption spectra using the finite-difference time-domain method in real space. Our numerical results and qualitative analysis show that when tuning the frequency or intensity of the THz laser, the dynamical localization (DL) and the ac Stark effect (ACSE) are either jointly or individually responsible for the exciton peak shift. Moreover, with the onset of miniband collapse, the excitonic dimensionality crossover and the DL will counteract each other in shifting the exciton peak. The direct experimental verification of the DL through semiconductor optical spectra is still a challenge. Regarding this fact, we propose a method to single out the DL effect from the spectral shift dominated by the ACSE.
Dephasing of Strong-Field-Driven Floquet States Revealed by Time- and Spectrum-Resolved Quantum-Path Interferometry

Abstract:Floquet engineering, while a powerful tool for ultrafast quantum-state manipulation, faces challenges under strong-field conditions, as recent high harmonic generation studies unveil exceptionally short dephasing times. In this study, using time- and spectrum-resolved quantum-path interferometry, we investigate the dephasing mechanisms of terahertz-driven excitons. Our results reveal a dramatic increase in exciton dephasing rate beyond a threshold field strength, indicating exciton dissociation as the primary dephasing mechanism. Importantly, we demonstrate long dephasing times of strong-field-dressed excitons, supporting coherent strong-field manipulation of quantum materials.

Destructive Interference and Fano Antiresonance in T-shaped Double Quantum Dots Coupled to Luttinger Liquid Leads

Abstract:We investigate the interplay of quantum interference effects and the electronic correlation on the transport through T-shaped spinless double quantum dots coupled to Luttinger liquid leads by using the nonequilibrium Green's function method. We find that the weak intralead Coulomb interaction leads to a zero-bias antiresonance dip in the differential conductance for small interdot tunneling coupling, which is distinct destructive interference characteristic. In particular, an intriguing Fano antiresonance profile for asymmetrically coupling to the Luttinger liquid leads is exhibited, consistent with the experiment findings but different physics screening origin. The strong intralead Coulomb interaction or large interdot coupling tunneling quenches the quantum interference effects, resulting in the disappearance of Fano antiresonance. The scaling behavior of differential conductance on temperature is presented for different intralead interactions. The relationship between destructive interference and two-channel Kondo effect is given. Our results provide a way of adjusting in and out of antiresonance to achieve quantum interference transistors and of switching by tuning the gate voltage controlling the interdot tunneling.

Abstract:Leveraging Floquet engineering, the remarkable tunability of Fano resonance in 1D nanostructures is demonstrated, even when the original discrete and continuum states are separated by over 1 eV, leading to the continuous transitions of Fano lineshapes from antiresonance to dispersive and to symmetric Lorentzian profiles, accompanied by significant variations in Fano parameter q and Raman intensity spanning 2 orders of magnitude. This study introduces a novel paradigm for achieving widely tunable many‐body Fano quantum interference in low‐dimensional semiconducting nanostructures, beyond the conventional requirement of closely matched energy levels between discrete and continuum states observed in atomic Fano systems. Leveraging Floquet engineering, the remarkable tunability of Fano lineshapes is demonstrated, even when the original discrete and continuum states are separated by over 1 eV. Specifically, by controlling the quantum pathways of discrete phonon Raman scattering using femtosecond laser pulses, the Raman intermediate states across the excitonic Floquet band are tuned. This manipulation yields continuous transitions of Fano lineshapes from antiresonance to dispersive and to symmetric Lorentzian profiles, accompanied by significant variations in Fano parameter q and Raman intensity spanning 2 orders of magnitude. A subtle shift in the excitonic Floquet resonance is further shown, achieved by controlling the intensity of the femtosecond laser, which profoundly modifies quantum interference strength from destructive to constructive interference. The study reveals the crucial roles of Floquet engineering in coherent light‐matter interactions and opens up new avenues for coherent control of Fano quantum interference over a broad energy spectrum in low‐dimensional semiconducting nanostructures.
