Abstract:This study addresses the problems of finite-time (FT) stability and stabilisation for distributed parameter systems. First, the authors extend the concepts of FT stability and FT stabilisation to the distributed parameter systems. Then, sufficient conditions of the L 2-FT stability and W 1,2-FT stability for the distributed parameter systems are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Based on these sufficient conditions, the authors design the state feedback controllers which guarantee the closed-loop distributed parameter systems to be L 2-FT stable and W 1,2-FT stable, respectively. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the proposed results.

Abstract:This note presents a simple approach to analyze robust D-stability for Uncertain continuous-time singular systems with state delay and structured Uncertainties. Sufficient conditions, which are computationally simple, and need not calculate the eigenvalues of the system, are proposed to ensure that the Uncertain continuous-time singular delay system is regular, impulse free and D-stable, that is, all its finite poles are located within it specified disk. Two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the application of the proposed method.

Abstract:The contribution of this article is twofold. First we deal with the stability of continuous-time interconnected impulsive switched systems for which the dimension of the system’s state vector may change at different modes. A dwell time condition is derived to ensure the exponential convergence of the state trajectories, and when the system is subject to a non-vanishing perturbation, a superior bound of the state trajectories is provided as well. The main advantage of the solution we propose is its direct application to practical fields such as metallurgy or traffic control through the use of semi-definite programming solvers. Second, we introduce in the framework a platoon of vehicles in automated highway systems where vehicles may join or leave the platoon. Then, we detail the longitudinal stability problem of such a system and illustrate the features of the proposed stability conditions through numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper studies the fundamental problems: whether an affine system affected by additive disturbances is robustly transferable from a source set (simplex) to a target set (polytope) and whether it is robustly stabilizable with its state constrained in a simplex. First, a necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the existence of affine feedback control that solves the robust reachability problem. Further investigation is provided for two situations relying on whether the union of the source set and the target set is convex or non-convex. For the former one, a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained in the form of linear inequalities, while for the latter, several computationally feasible sufficient conditions are found. Second, we show that robust stabilization subject to a state constraint is equivalent to find a feasible solution to a linear equation. Once it is known that either of the problems has a solution by checking the derived conditions, design of control laws is then straightforward.

Abstract:This brief addresses stability of the discrete-time positive systems with bounded time-varying delays and establishes some necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of such systems. It turns out that, for any bounded time-varying delays, the magnitude of the delays does not affect the stability of these systems. In other words, system stability is completely determined by the system matrices.

Abstract:The stability condition of a class of hybrid dynamic systems is discussed.The characteristic of this class of hybrid dynamic systems is that a center controller controls N continuous plants in sharing time manner.The plants are described by differential equations.Event feedback strategy is used as the real-time scheduling policy such that only one plant is chosen to be controlled by the controller at any time.The main result of this paper is as follows:First,a discrete time system derived from the hybrid dynamic system with event feedback scheduling strategy is introduced,and it is shown that the stability of hybrid dynamic system is equivalent to that the state of the derived discrete time system tends to negative infinite.Based on this fact,a new proof of an existing stability condition is presented.Then,a conjecture as a new stability condition is proposed.It is showed that the conjecture holds in certain special cases.Finally,two numeric examples are presented to support the conjecture in general case.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with problems of stability of discrete-time systems with infinite delays. Several new theorems for stability analysis of the concerned delayed systems are developed. Specifically, uniform stability, uniform asymptotic stability, global uniform asymptotic stability, exponential stability and global exponential stability are included. Our results include some existing works on bounded delays as special cases. Furthermore, an example is furnished to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed theorems.

Abstract:The problem of robust D-stability and D-stabilization is discussed for a class of discrete delay systems with parametric uncertainty. In terms of linear matrix inequality (LMD techniques, sufficient and necessary conditions for quadratic D-stability and quadratic D-stabilization of uncertain systems are derived and the method of designing corresponding state-feedback controller is presented. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the validity of the obtained result.

Abstract:In view of the problems of large consumption of communication and computing resources in the control process, this paper studies a fundamental property for a class of multi-agent systems under event-triggered strategy: the S-stabilizability of a group of multi-agent systems with general linear dynamics under weakly connected directed topology. The results indicate that the S-stabilizability can be described in some way that the stabilizability region and feedback gain can evaluate the performance of the protocol. Firstly, a new distributed event-triggered protocol is proposed. Under this protocol, a kind of hybrid static and dynamic event-triggered strategy are presented, respectively. In particular, by using Lyapunov stability theory and graph partition tool, it is proved that the proposed event-triggered control strategy can guarantee the closed-loop system achieve S-stabilizability effectively, if at least one vertex in each iSCC (independent strongly connected component) cell receives information from the leader, which reflects the ability of distributed control law. Further, we demonstrate that the stabilizability can be realized if the initial system matrix A is Hurwitz. Moreover, it is confirmed that the designed static event-triggered condition is a limit case of dynamic event condition and can guarantee Zeno-free behavior. Finally, the validity of the theoretical results is proved by numerical simulation.

Abstract:Some necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the stability of a networked system with linear time invariant dynamics. Connections among its subsystems are fixed but arbitrary, and every subsystem can have different dynamics. Based on these results, some necessary or sufficient conditions are further obtained for both its stability and robust stability, which essentially depend only on parameter matrices of each individual subsystem and the subsystem connection matrix. This characteristic makes them attractive in the analysis and synthesis of a large scale networked system.

Abstract:The stability of synchronized states (including equilibrium point, periodic orbit or chaotic attractor) in stochastic coupled dynamical systems (ordinary differential equations) is considered. A general approach is presented, based on the master stability function, Gershgorin disc theory and the extreme value theory in statistics, to yield constraints on the distribution of coupling to ensure the stability of synchronized dynamics. Three types of different behaviour: global-stable, exponential-stable and power-stable, are found, depending on the nature of the distribution of the interactions between units. Systems with specific coupling schemes are used as examples to illustrate our general method.

Abstract:In this article, we develop some approaches, which enable us to more accurately and analytically identify the essential patterns that guarantee the almost sure stability of discrete-time systems with random switches. We allow for the case that the elements in the switching connection matrix even obey some unbounded and continuous-valued distributions. In addition to the almost sure stability, we further investigate the almost sure synchronization in complex dynamical networks consisting of randomly connected nodes. Numerical examples illustrate that a chaotic dynamics in the synchronization manifold is preserved when statistical parameters enter some almost sure synchronization region established by the developed approach. Moreover, some delicate configurations are considered on probability space for ensuring synchronization in networks whose nodes are described by nonlinear maps. Both theoretical and numerical results on synchronization are presented by setting only a few random connections in each switch duration. More interestingly, we analytically find it possible to achieve almost sure synchronization in the randomly switching complex networks even with very large population sizes, which cannot be easily realized in non-switching but deterministically connected networks.

Abstract:The solvability of certainty equivalence control problems for discrete-time multi-agent systems over uniformly jointly connected switching networks relies on the stability/attractivity analysis for a class of perturbed switched systems with respect to a set of switching signals. To tackle this issue, in this paper, a novel systematic and unified framework is established consisting of three key stability/attractivity results. First, the uniform global exponential stability for two dual cases of the nominal dynamics is analyzed in a unified way by checking the weak zero-state detectability from the limiting systems. Second, the uniform global exponential attractivity of the perturbed switched systems accommodating both first-order and zero-order time-varying perturbations is studied without resorting to any Lyapunov function for the entire perturbed switched systems. Third, the uniform global $\kappa$-exponential stability for a class of cascaded switched systems is investigated. These stability/attractivity results together lay the foundation to thoroughly solve two kinds of typical certainty equivalence control problems, and also improve two specific cooperative control designs. Moreover, a relaxed dwell-time condition is considered, which makes the obtained results tolerable in the extreme case of instantaneous link failure and restoration. Finally, the control performances are shown by numerical simulations.
