Abstract:Connected to the modern knowledge formation and institutional changes in the late Qing period, the revival of the Guwen Classics and the subsequent disputes between Guwen Classics and Jinwen Classics have always been academic focuses. Since the late Qing dynasty, ”Shu Learning” as an important school of Jinwen Classics, has become a center of the Chinese traditional learning. ”Sichuan Academy of Traditional Chinese Learning”, established at the beginning of the Republic of China and gathering together many scholars, witnessed the disputes between Liao Ping and Liu Shipei, the cultural phenomenon in modern Chinese academic field. We believe that the examination and review of the event is helpful to depict the tendency of Shu Learning and the change of Liu Shipei's research, to outline the transformation of the Jinwen-Guwen Classics at the beginning of the Republic of China.

Abstract:Most of the university students enrolled in 1977 and 1978 have experienced the hardships and tribulations of going and working in the countryside or mountain areas.They are the group of people that have won the fiercest competition of college entrance examination.They have great difference in age with abundant social experiences and strong desires for knowledge.They have learned as hard as they can with positive mentality and enterprising spirits.However,their knowledge is not complete and English basis is weak.They are the beneficiaries,pushers and vindicators of the reform and opening up.Their destinies are closely tied to reform and opening up.As a special group born in the special historical period,the experiences of the university students enrolled in 1977 and 1978 can not be replicated,however,their experiences and spirits can be inherited.

Abstract:LIJIANG City sits where the Yunnan-Guizhou and Qinghai-Tibet Plateaus converge in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The Old Town of Lijiang, a listed world cultural heritage site, has 900 years of history preserved along its narrow streets. To me, though this was not my first visit, Lijiang and its environs are shrouded in mystery. More than just an ancient city with winding alleyways and old houses, its unique customs and legends fill outsiders with fascination. The locals still enjoy the old ways of living and thinking. To the north, high hills rise up above the fields towards Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the holy incarnation of the local Naxi people’s patron god. Returning to Lijiang, I found that still holds the same ease and grace, and time here seems frozen.

Abstract:The first decade of 1900s was the decade when great changes had taken place in Chinese traditional education.The abolition of the imperial examination system,the issue and implementation of modern school system and the establishment of a large number of new-style schools had greatly shocked the souls of millions of scholars who studied earnestly day and night under the old educational system and had a lot to do with their future and destinies.As a traditional scholar benefiting from imperial examination system,facing great educational changes in the early 1900s,the cognition and activities of Yun Yuding,on the one hand,were greatly influenced by his growth and traditional culture.He felt distressful,grieved and enraged at the collapse of mainstream value system of the feudal society;on the other hand,the consideration of the interests of his family and himself impelled him to get involved into the changes consciously and unconsciously.All the conflicts and paradoxes shown in his lectures and activities were actually a miniature of the complexities of the Chinese intellectuals in the early 1900s and reflected a cultural predicament confronting the intellectuals in times of critical transformation.

Abstract:This vignette presents Yu Hua ́s novel from 1991 and analyses two different interpretations of the novel with fifteen years between them written by the same prominent critic, Chen Xiaoming. The first interpretation was written in 1992 when China was in the early stages of economic reform. The second was written in 2007 when deep-going social changes had affected the life of the individual. By comparing these two essays, I aim to show how a literary text may act as a catalyst for bringing out existential issues at stake at a particular point in time.

Abstract:Full of innovative consciousness in both thinking and writing skills,Idle Talk Under the Bean Arbor is an excellent work in the ealy Qing Dynasty.The very expression the Bean Arbor suggests the natural traits and cultural elements in the area of Jiangnan.Its criticism of the fourflushers in Su Zhou reveals the circumstance and human relationship in this specific district of Jiang Nan from another perspective,while the story of Xishi reflects the tradition of Jiang Nan culture.All these cultural factors in local conditions,social customs and history build an indissoluble bond between Idle Talk Under the Bean Arbor and Jiang Nan culture.Hopefully new clues or reference about its still unknown author and writing backgroud may be found through a meticulous examination on Jiang Nan culture.

Abstract:Abstract This paper shows how history is rewritten in China by shaping the memories of its youth, who create new communities by sharing and renarrating new memories. They can become a powerful channel to convey an official interpretation of local histories to a larger public, by marginalizing and appropriating local narratives. The idea behind the program for voluntary narrators under analysis “Explaining Dunhuang – 2019 University students’ summer programme to become voluntary narrator at Mogao grottoes”. The original name of the program in Chinese is Jieshuo Dunhuang – 2019 Mogao ku gaoxiao shuqi zhiyuan jiangjieyuan 解说敦煌·2019莫高窟高校暑期志愿讲解员. is to shape memories of China’s young and wealthy students about a place, by transforming its rich cross-cultural fundamentals, symbolic and inner meanings, into a representation of the Nation, able to convey powerful declinations of official narratives on the history of China. The analysis is conducted in consideration of the larger context of the construction and transmission of the official discourse on national identity in contemporary PRC. Specifically, the author provides evidence of how young Chinese internalize and disseminate the party line on Chineseness, and the subordinate role assigned within this process to “minorities.” Minorities are seen both as a threat and an opportunity: a threat to the Party and social cohesion as carriers of diverse identities, an opportunity for contrasting Chineseness with the Other, a backward entity, inadequate and unable to embrace—if not help—the path to modernity.

Abstract:Jin Yongs short story Cloud of The Moon is an autobiographical novel published in 2000.Yi Guan,hero of this novel,sincerely treats Yue Yun who is his maid in his childhood,and there is an indistinct "master-maid" love between them.This work reveals the remembrance of south of the Yangtze River-Jiang Nan complex,which can be seen as the origin of advocating the thoughts of equality and philanthropy,a type of love relationships between a male with more females,different descriptive styles of south of the Yangtze River and other areas in Jin Yong’s later fictions.Through recollecting his childhood experiences,the author makes some self-interpretations for his martial arts fictions and life path.This novel is a window to look through Jin Yong himself and his works.

Abstract:The literary activities of Zhong Xing and Tan Yuanchun during their early years in hometown, have till now received rather little attention from the researches in Jingling School. This paper attempts to present a general picture of those events through a comprehensive review, including Zhong's and Tan's literary practices, personal cultivation, interactions with each other, social activities in the literary circles back in their hometown, and their early writings and experiences. It also explores diachronically the relations between their literary standpoints and trends of thought at this stage and their literary concepts and propositions afterwards, which prove to be of significant importance to the making and development of Jingling School. In this way, the paper tries to put the poetic criticism of a literary school back into its background.

The daily life in literature in Shanghai has returned and developed, demonstrating an active desire for survival since the middle of eighties. The daily life is colorful in form in the nineties. This paper describes the development of daily life narration in Shanghai in the contemporary literature, uncloaking the soul transmutation inside it.

Abstract:In the past 40 years, the promotion of communicative classroom methodologies has come to be seen as a priority by those involved in teaching English as a foreign language, both with adults and older school learners and, more recently, reflecting the growth of primary EFL, with younger learners as well. These are methodologies that are underpinned by the assumption that an important focus of the foreign language classroom should be on helping learners acquire the communication skills seen as increasingly important given that English has become an important means of international communication. Drawing upon developments in second language acquisition theory, they are also ones that recognize that the nature and quality of the interactional opportunities in the classroom are of central concern in our efforts to promote successful learning (see e.g. Ellis 1999). More broadly, Allwright (1984: 159) has argued that interaction is not just ‘an aspect of modern language teaching methods but a fundamental fact of classroom pedagogy’. In other words, everything that happens in the classroom happens through person-to-person interaction.

Abstract:Since 2002, developing a learning society and creating a friendly institutional environment for lifelong learning have been top of national policy-making agenda. This essay first examines the strategic planning, national policies and effectual measures for the comprehensive development of lifelong learning in China. Then with the baseline data of the Chinese Family Panel Studies (CFPS) in 2010, this study investigates the status of Chinese citizens' lifelong learning, including their time allocation, free time activities and the channels of receiving information. Finally, discussion on how to promote lifelong learning is put forward, both at national and individual level.
