Abstract:Design of building structures applying high-performance steel, which has advanced material properties, such as low yield strength to tensile strength ratio, low fluctuation range of yield strength, low thickness effect of yield strength and good weldability, has attached importance to tensile mechanical properties of Q460GJ steel plates. This article studies the mechanical properties of two kinds of Q460GJ steel plates (with thickness of 8 mm and 12 mm) at room temperature (20 degrees C) and elevated temperatures (300-900 degrees C). For Q460GJ steel, at 20 degrees C, the sigma-epsilon curve has a clear yield plateau, but no obvious yield plateau at 300-900 degrees C. As the temperature increases, the initial linear elastic segment gradually shortens, the ultimate strain corresponding to the ultimate stress decreases, and the declining segment tends to flatten. The difference in plate thickness does not affect the mechanical properties of the 8 mm and 12 mm Q460GJ steel plates. As the temperature increases, the elastic modulus, yield strength, ultimate strength, ultimate strain and fracture strength of Q460GJ steel show continuous decreasing trends. The respectively reduction factors were fitted well with proposed prediction equations. Comparing with Eurocode 3, GB51249, AISC and AS4100 standards, the recommended reduction factors proposed by main current standards are not applicable to Q460GJ steel. A modified Eurocode 3 model was proposed and fitted well with experimental results, which only requires only 5 experimental parameters to support it.
