Abstract:The nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation is widely used in natural science. Various nonlinear excitations of the NLS equation have been found by many methods. However, except for the soliton-soliton interactions, it is very difficult to find interaction solutions between different types of nonlinear excitations. In this paper, the symmetry reduction method is further developed to find interaction solutions between solitons and other types of NLS waves. Especially, the soliton-cnoidal wave interaction solutions are explicitly studied in terms of the Jacobi elliptic functions and the third type of incomplete elliptic integrals. Some special concrete interaction solutions and their asymptotic behaviors are discussed both in analytical and graphical ways.

Abstract:In an inhomogeneous nonlinear light guide doped with two-level resonant atoms, the generalized coupled variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger-Maxwell-Bloch system can be used to describe the propagation of optical solitons. In this paper, the Lax pair and conservation laws of that model are derived via symbolic computation. Furthermore, based on the Lax pair obtained, the Darboux transformation is constructed and soliton solutions are presented. Figures are plotted to reveal the following dynamic features of the solitons: (1) Periodic mutual attractions and repulsions of four types of bound solitons: of two one-peak bright solitons; of two one-peak dark solitons; of two two-peak bright solitons and of two two-peak dark solitons; (2) Two types of elastic interactions of solitons: of two bright solitons and of two dark solitons; (3) Two types of parallel propagations of parabolic solitons: of two bright solitons and of two dark solitons. Those results might be useful in the study of optical solitons in some inhomogeneous nonlinear light guides.

Abstract:Shallow water waves are seen in magnetohydrodynamics, atmospheric science, oceanography and so on. In this article, we study a ( )-dimensional Korteweg–de Vries–Calogero–Bogoyavlenskii–Schiff equation with the time-dependent coefficients for the shallow water waves. N -soliton solutions are obtained via the simplified Hirota method. Via the N -soliton solutions, we present the elastic interactions between the two solitons and among the three solitons. Some other analytic solutions are constructed through the tanh method and -expansion method.

Abstract:Soliton interactions for the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations, governing the propagation of envelopes of electromagnetic waves in birefringent optical fibers, are investigated with symbolic computation. Based on the Hirota method, analytic two- and three-soliton solutions for this model are derived. Relevant interaction properties are discussed. Stationary bound vector solitons with the periodic attraction and repulsion are obtained. Soliton intensity could be reduced if the nonlinearity in optical fibers is enlarged, while the soliton period could be prolonged as the group velocity dispersion in the anomalous dispersion regime of optical fibers increases. Through the asymptotic analysis for the two-soliton solutions, interactions between two solitons are proven to be elastic. Besides, parallel soliton transmission systems without soliton interactions are presented. Moreover, interactions between the regular and bound vector solitons are studied. Dual complex structures and triple-soliton bound states are presented. Results could be of certain value to the studies on the soliton control and optical switching technologies.

Abstract:Under investigation in this work is the general coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (gCNLS) equation, which can be reduced to several integrable equations. By using Darboux-dressing transformation, the new localized wave solutions of the equation are constructed. These solutions exhibit breather waves and rogue waves on a multi-soliton background. Moreover, the dynamics of these solutions is analyzed with some graphics. Our results can be of much importance in enriching and predicting rogue wave phenomena arising in nonlinear wave fields.

Abstract:In this paper, a (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with variable coefficients is studied. Base on the symmetry of the equation, we rotate the original coordinate for 45 degrees to get a simple one in the new coordinate. This method is quite easy to compare with solving it directly, and it is never been used before. By the Hirota method with an auxiliary function, the soliton solutions are derived. We revealed the structures between soliton interaction and discussed the interaction properties: Influences of the coefficients and wave numbers on interaction shapes of solitons are presented, i.e. parabolic, cubic, quasi-periodical, and polyline solitons are presented; Solitonic amplitudes are inversely proportional to the wave numbers. Besides, if the coefficients small enough, two-soliton solutions are degenerate into two parallel solitons; Soliton solutions do not only depend on the wave numbers, but also affected by the coefficients; To demonstrate those soliton solutions, we propose different methods to control those parameters, we also discuss a new form and draw some good conclusions. In the end, bound-state solitons are obtained.

According to this Darboux transformation, the solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation are reduced to solving a Linear algebraic system, from which a unified and explicit formulation of N-soliton solutions with multiparameters for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation is given.

Abstract:A generalized Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV equation, which can describe the interactions of two long waves with different dispersion relations, is studied in this paper. Using the Hirota direct method, its bilinear form is firstly obtained, and secondly its <math>N</math>-soliton solutions are found. Finally, the collisions between two solitons are proved to be elastic via performing the asymptotic analysis. Some graphs are given to illustrate that the two-soliton collisions do not change any physical quantities except small phase shifts.

Abstract:. Under investigation in this paper are two extended Korteweg-de Vries (eKdV) equations in fluids with the second-order nonlinear and dispersive terms. Based on the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur system, the Lax pair and infinitely many conservation laws are derived. By virtue of the Hirota method and symbolic computation, the bilinear forms and N -soliton solutions for the two eKdV equations are obtained, respectively. Relevant propagation properties and interaction behaviors of the solitons are illustrated graphically. The collisions for the η profile are proved to be elastic through the asymptotic analysis. Types of collisions (head-on or overtaking collisions) can be controlled when we adjust the sign of the velocity v . Velocities of solitons are related to c 4 and α during the collisions. Moreover, there is not a direct proportion relationship between the velocity v and amplitude a during the collisions. On the one hand, the soliton with the larger amplitude travels faster and catches up with the smaller one. On the other hand, the soliton with the smaller amplitude travels faster and catches up with the larger one.

Abstract:The (2+1) -dimensional nonlocal derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, correlated with Lax pair involving partial reverse space–time symmetric potential, is investigated in this paper. The special eigenfunctions of spectral problem are required to ensure the validity of the nonlocal reduction conditions. In view of Darboux transformation method and different seed solutions, some explicit solutions are derived for the reduced system. As its applications, periodic waves, breathers, dark solitons, anti-dark solitons, shock wave, interactions and parallel propagations of the above waves are plotted to distinguish different parameter values. By taking limit technology and Taylor expansion, the N -order generalized Darboux transformation, multi-line waves and multi-parabola waves solutions are obtained. Compared with local ones, the nonlocal equations possess more plentiful pattern dynamics for the waves as it should take nonlocal term and local terms into account rather than just local terms. These interesting results may be useful for future experimental study.

Abstract:In this paper, the N-fold Darboux transformation (DT) of the combined Toda lattice and relativistic Toda lattice equation is constructed in terms of determinants. Comparing with the usual 1-fold DT of equations, this kind of N-fold DT enables us to generate the multi-soliton solutions without complicated recursive process. As applications of the N-fold DT, we derive two kinds of N-fold explicit exact solutions from two different seed solutions and plot the figures with properly parameters to illustrate the propagation of solitary waves. What’s more, we present the relationships between the structures of exact solutions parameters with $$N=1$$, from which we find the 1-fold solutions may be one soliton solutions or periodic solutions and the waves pass through without change of shapes, amplitudes, wavelengths and directions, etc. The results in this paper might be helpful for interpreting certain physical phenomena.

Abstract:The dynamical properties of the optical solitons in two types of matrix nonlinear Schrödin-ger (NLS) equation are studied by Riemann–Hilbert method. Firstly, the inverse scattering transform of the matrix NLS equation is investigated and the corresponding Riemann–Hilbert problem is established. Then, by solving the Riemann–Hilbert problem of discrete spectrum, the N -soliton solutions of the matrix NLS equations are obtained. Finally, the single-soliton solution, two-soliton solution and three-soliton solution of the matrix NLS equations are attained. It is proved that the two-soliton solution is decomposed into two single-soliton solutions when the time approaches infinity and the multiple solitons will overlap and form a bound state advancing at the same velocity when they have the same velocity.

Abstract:The primary aim of this paper is to explore exact solutions to a novel (2+1)-dimensional water wave equation that models oceanic wave phenomena. We begin by applying the Hirota bilinear transformation method to derive multi-soliton solutions, including 3-soliton and 4-soliton solutions. Then, utilizing the bilinear form of the equation and the long-wave limit method, we identify multiple lump solutions and interaction solutions between lumps and solitons. These include 1-lump, 2-lump, and 3-lump solutions, as well as interactions between a 1-lump and a 1-soliton, and between a 1-lump and 2-solitons. The physical dynamics of these solutions are visually represented, offering insight into the corresponding oceanic wave phenomena.

Abstract:In this paper, a systematic study for a (2+1$$2+1$$)-dimensional nonlinear wave equation is performed. Based on the Hirota bilinear method, N-soliton solutions are obtained. By combining the asymptotic analysis with restricting the parameters of the two-soliton, X-type solitons and Y-type solitons are derived. The hybrid solutions among Y-type soliton, breather solution and lump are presented. In the meanwhile, new bound state molecules including lump-soliton molecule, lump-breather molecule and breather molecule are investigated through mechanisms of velocity resonance and mode resonance. The dynamics of these hybrid solutions are analyzed by the symbolic computations and graphs ways.

Abstract:Using the nonlinear constraint method, the explicit expressions of localized solitons of the 1+2-dimensional three-wave equation are obtained. After the lth Darboux transformation, each component of the solution has, at most, l2 peaks when the parameters for each single Darboax transformation are large enough. This gives a corresponding asymptotic property for the DSI equation, although all the peaks of each component move in the same velocity here.

Abstract:Under investigation in this paper is a discrete modified exponential Toda lattice equation which may describe vibration of particles in a lattice. Firstly, we construct an integrable lattice hierarchy associated with this equation from a $2\times 2$ matrix spectral problem, and some related integrable properties such as Hamiltonian structures, Liouville integrability and conservation laws of this hierarchy are discussed. Secondly, we present the discrete generalized $(m, N-m)$-fold Darboux transformation of the modified exponential Toda lattice equation on the basis of its known Lax representation. As applications of the obtained discrete generalized Darboux transformation, multi-kink-soliton solutions on an exponential surface background and an inclined plane background are obtained when $m=2N$, the discrete rational and semi-rational solutions are derived when $m=1$, and the mixed solutions of usual soliton solutions and rational solutions are given when $m=2$. Based on the asymptotic and graphic analysis, soliton elastic interaction phenomena and limit states related to rational solutions are discussed and analyzed. Furthermore, some mathematical features of rational solutions are summarized. Finally, numerical simulations are used to explore the dynamical behaviors of such soliton solutions which show the soliton evolutions are robust against a small noise. These results and properties given in this paper might be useful for understanding nonlinear lattice dynamics.

Abstract:A new six-point scheme of the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) system is derived from the symplectic scheme to study the collision behaviors of soliton waves. We prove that the new six-point scheme preserves the square conservation, which matches the square conservation of the CNLS system. Numerical experiments show that the new six-point scheme has excellent long-time numerical behaviors. From the numerical experiment results we find that the collisions of the soliton waves in the CNLS system are sensitive to the collision velocity and the cross-phase-modulational coefficient.
