Abstract:Recently, defect engineering by B-site substitution has been considered one of the foremost strategies to improve the electrochemical performance of various advanced electrode materials for supercapacitor applications. Perovskite materials have been investigated for hybrid supercapacitor electrodes because of their enhanced energy storage ability. In this study, potassium and fluorine vacancies have been introduced in Mn-substituted potassium nickel fluoride perovskite. This cation substitution of bimetallic perovskite halide significantly improved the capacitive performance, showing a positive impact of vacancies on charge storage. Owing to adequate cation substitution and cation and anion vacancies, the bimetallic halide perovskite, KNi 0.8 Mn 0.2 F 3− δ demonstrated a maximum specific capacity of 620 C g −1 (1550 F g −1 ) and the capacity retention of 69% over 10,000 cycles. Moreover, the corresponding asymmetric hybrid device exhibited an excellent energy density of 52.3 Wh kg −1 . With such enhanced electrochemical performance, the halide perovskite can be a promising candidate for next-generation supercapacitor electrodes.
