Abstract:For a class of arbitrary large initial data with radial symmetry or cylindrical symmetry, we prove the existence of global solutions for the 3D relativistic Vlasov-Poisson system for the plasma physics case. The compact support assumption is not imposed for both cases. The essential lower bound assumption of the angular momentum in the previous work of Glassey and Schaeffer (Math Methods Appl Sci 24:143-157, 2001) is not imposed on the initial data for the cylindrical symmetry case.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system in space dimension three. For a class of large initial data, we prove the global existence of classical solution with sharp decay estimates. The initial Maxwell field is allowed to be arbitrarily large and the initial density distribution is assumed to be small and decay with rate $$(1+|x|+|v|)^{-9-}$$ . In particular, there is no restriction on the support of the initial data.

Abstract:Given any smooth, suitably small initial data, which decays polynomially at infinity, we prove global regularity for the 3 D relativistic massive Vlasov–Maxwell system. In particular, the compact support assumption, which was widely used in the literature, is not imposed on the initial data. Our proofs are based on a combination of the Klainerman vector field method and the Fourier method, which allows us to exploit a crucial hidden null structure in the relativistic Vlasov–Maxwell system.

Abstract:We study the small data global regularity problem of the \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} Vlasov-Poisson system for both the relativistic case and the non-relativistic case. The main goal of this paper is twofold. (i) Based on a Fourier method, which works systematically for both the relativistic case and the non-relativistic case, we give a short proof for the global regularity and the sharp decay estimate for the \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} Vlasov-Poisson system. Moreover, we show that the nonlinear solution scatters to a linear solution in both cases. The result of sharp decay estimates for the non-relativistic case is not new, see Hwang-Rendall-Velázquez [9] and Smulevici [23]. (ii) The Fourier method presented in this paper serves as a good comparison for the study of more complicated \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} relativistic Vlasov-Nordström system in [24] and \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system in [25].

Abstract:We consider the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system (RVM) on a general axisymmetric spatial domain with perfect conducting boundary which reflects particles specularly, assuming axisymmetry in the problem. We construct continuous global parametric solution sets for the time-independent RVM. The solutions in these sets have arbitrarily large electromagnetic field and the particle density functions have the form $f^\pm = \mu^\pm (e^\pm (x, v), p^\pm (x, v))$, where $e^\pm$ and $p^\pm$ are the particle energy and angular momentum, respectively. In particular, for a certain class of examples, we show that the spectral stability changes as the parameter varies from $0$ to $\infty$.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the smooth spherically symmetric solutions to 3D relativistic Chaplygin gases with variable entropy, whose initial data is assumed to be a small smooth perturbation to a constant state. Due to the structure of the equation, we can still take advantage of the “null condition” which is satisfied by the potential equation for isentropic and spacetime irrotational relativistic Chaplygin gases and obtain the global existence of smooth solution by continuity method. This generalizes the result for classical Chaplygin gases of Godin [J Math Pures Appl 87(9):91–117, 2007 ] to the relativistic case.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the global well-posedness property of charge critical Dirac-Klein-Gordon (DKG) system in $\mathbb{R}^{3+1}$ for small initial data in a space of scale invariant data which has extra weighted regularity in the angular variables. Therefore, by finite speed propagation, we could also derive the local well-posedness property for large initial data in the same space. To author's knowledge, our result appears to be the first result on the critical 3D DKG.

Abstract:This article is devoted to the relativistic Vlasov–Maxwell system in space dimension three. We prove the local well-posedness (existence and uniqueness) for initial data (\mathrm{f}_{0}, \mathrm{E}_{0},\mathrm{B}_{0}) \in L^{\infty} \times H^{1} \times H^{1} , with \mathrm{f}_{0} compactly supported in momentum. As a byproduct, we obtain the uniqueness of weak solutions to the 3D relativistic Vlasov–Maxwell system. This result is at the interface of the classical solutions in the sense of Glassey–Strauss, and the weak solutions in the sense of DiPerna–Lions. It is the consequence of the local smooth solvability for the weak topology associated with L^{\infty} \times H^{1} \times H^{1} . We derive our result from a representation formula decoding how the momentum spreads and revealing that the domain of influence in momentum is controlled by mild information. We do so by developing a Radon Fourier analysis on the RVM system, leading to the study of a class of singular weighted integrals. In parallel, we implement our method to construct smooth solutions to the RVM system in the regime of dense, hot and strongly magnetized plasmas.

Abstract:We study smooth, global-in-time solutions of the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system that possess arbitrarily large charge densities and electric fields. In particular, we construct spherically symmetric solutions that describe a thin shell of equally charged particles concentrating arbitrarily close to the origin and which give rise to charge densities and electric fields as large as one desires at some finite time. We show that these solutions exist even for arbitrarily small initial data or any desired mass. In the latter case, the time at which solutions concentrate can also be made arbitrarily large.

Abstract:This paper proves that the 3-D Navier-Stokes system has a unique global solution under an assumpution on the initial data. That allow the data to be arbitrarily large in the scale invariant space \dot{B}_{\infty,\infty}^{-1}, which contains all the known spaces in which there is a global solution for small data. Moreover, this result provides various examples of arbitrarily large initial data giving rise to global solutions.

Abstract:Abstract This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of small data solutions to the three-dimensional Vlasov–Maxwell system in the exterior of a light cone. The plasma does not have to be neutral, and no compact support assumptions are required on the data. In particular, the initial decay in the velocity variable of the particle density is optimal and we only require an $L^2$ bound on the electromagnetic field with no additional weight. We use vector field methods to derive improved decay estimates in null directions for the electromagnetic field, the particle density, and their derivatives. In contrast with [ 2], where we studied the behavior of the solutions in the whole spacetime, the initial data have less decay and we do not need to modify the commutation vector fields of the relativistic transport operator. To control the solutions under these assumptions, we crucially use the strong decay satisfied by the particle density in the exterior of the light cone, null properties of the Vlasov equation, and certain hierarchies in the energy norms.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for the relativistic membrane equation (RME) embedded in $\mathbb R^{1+(1+n)}$ with $n=2,3$. We show that the RME with a class of large (in energy norm) initial data admits a global, smooth solution. The initial data are given by the short pulse type, which is introduced by Christodoulou in his work on the formation of black holes [10]. Due to the quasilinear feature of RME, we construct two multipliers adapted to the geometry of membrane and present an efficient way for proving the global existence of smooth solution to the geometric wave equation with double null structure. We also derive the asymptotic geometry of the future null infinity and find out a nonlinear (expanding) effect at infinity.

Global existence and modified scattering for the solutions to the Vlasov-Maxwell system with a small distribution function

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is twofold. In the first part, we provide a new proof of the global existence of the solutions to the Vlasov-Maxwell system with a small initial distribution function. Our approach relies on vector field methods, together with the Glassey-Strauss decomposition of the electromagnetic field, and does not require any support restriction on the initial data or smallness assumption on the Maxwell field. Contrary to previous works on Vlasov systems in dimension $3$, we do not modify the linear commutators and avoid then many technical difficulties. In the second part of this paper, we prove a modified scattering result for these solutions. More precisely, we obtain that the electromagnetic field has a radiation field along future null infinity and approaches, for large time, a smooth solution to the vacuum Maxwell equations. As for the Vlasov-Poisson system, in constrast, the distribution function converges to a new density function along modifications of the characteristics of the free relativistic transport equation. In order to define these logarithmic corrections, we identify an effective asymptotic Lorentz force. By considering logarithmical modifications of the linear commutators, defined in terms of derivatives of the asymptotic Lorentz force, we finally prove higher order regularity results for the limit distribution function.
