Abstract:Polygonal vertices convexo-concave determining is one of the fundamental issues in Computer Graphics. In this paper, plane space is separated into 2 region defined as positive region and negative region based on the direction and the stretched of the line segment. Accordingly transform identification of convexity or concavity of the next vertices into identification of the region position. Consequently the operation of multiplication can be averted. In order to do the best in practical determining, 3 areas is separated of the plane space, whereas not the same as earlier. These area are based on two horizontal lines, two vertical lines and two 45°diagonal lines through the vertices of the line segment. Because the partition is based on the polygon vertices and it has dynamic, therefore it's a dynamic distinct partition. These areas are defined as positive area, negative area or mixed area. In the case of the positive area or the negative area, we can confirm the convexity or concavity of the vertices through simple distinguishing. The result of test indicates it is a simple, highly efficient and reliable algorithm with high speed requires only (n/4) multiplication and(12n) comparisons.

Abstract:In this paper, we give part-preserving bijections between three fundamental families of objects that serve as natural framework for many problems in enumerative combinatorics. Specifically, we consider compositions, Dyck paths, and partitions of a convex polygon, and identify suitable building blocks that are then appropriately decorated to achieve matching cardinalities. Our bijections are constructive and apply for the general case where the building blocks are allowed to come in different colors.

Abstract:This paper proves explicit formulas for the number of dissections of a convex regular polygon modulo the action of the cyclic and dihedral groups. The formulas are obtained by making use of the Cauchy-Frobenius Lemma as well as bijections between rotationally symmetric dissections and simpler classes of dissections. A number of special cases of these formulas are studied. Consequently, some known enumerations are recovered and several new ones are provided.

Non-crossing chords of a polygon with forbidden positions

Abstract:In this paper, we systematically study non-crossing chords of simple polygons in the plane. We first introduce the reduced Euler characteristic of a family of line-segments, and subsequently investigate the structure of the diagonals and epigonals of a polygon. Interestingly enough, the reduced Euler characteristic of a subfamily of diagonals and epigonals characterizes the geometric convexity of polygons. In particular, an alternative and complete answer is given for a problem proposed by G. C. Shephard. Meanwhile, we extend such research to non-crossing diagonals and epigonals with forbidden positions in some appropriate sense. We prove that the reduced Euler characteristic of diagonals with forbidden positions only depends on the information involving convex partitions by those forbidden diagonals, and it determines the shapes of polygons in a surprising way. Incidentally, some kinds of generalized Catalan's numbers naturally arise.

Abstract:There are many different algebraic, geometric and combinatorial objects that one can attach to a complex polynomial with distinct roots. In this article we introduce a new object that encodes many of the existing objects that have previously appeared in the literature. Concretely, for every complex polynomial $p$ with $d$ distinct roots and degree at least 2, we produce a canonical compact planar 2-complex that is a compact metric version of a tiled phase diagram. It has a locally CAT(0) metric that is locally Euclidean away from a finite set of interior points indexed by the critical points of $p$, and each of its 2-cells is a metric rectangle. From this planar rectangular 2-complex one can use metric graphs known as metric cacti and metric banyans to read off several pieces of combinatorial data: a chain in the partition lattice, a cyclic factorization of a d-cycle, a real noncrossing partition (also known as a primitive d-major), and the monodromy permutations for the polynomial. This article is the first in a series.

Abstract:We prove that every indefinite quadratic form with non-negative integer coefficients is the volume polynomial of a pair of lattice polygons. This solves the discrete version of the Heine-Shephard problem for two bodies in the plane. As an application, we show how to construct a pair of planar tropical curves (or a pair of divisors on a toric surface) with given intersection number and self-intersection numbers.

On $P$-partitions Extended by Two-Rowed Plane Partitions

Abstract:Inspired by Gansner's elegant $k$-trace generating function for rectangular plane partitions, we introduce two novel operators, $\varphi_{z}$ and $\psi_{z}$, along with their combinatorial interpretations. Through these operators, we derive a new formula for $P$-partitions of posets extended by two-rowed plane partitions. This formula allows us to compute explicit enumerative generating functions for various classes of $P$-partitions. Our findings encompass skew plane partitions, diamond-related two-rowed plane partitions, an extended $V$-poset, and ladder poset extensions, enriching the theory of $P$-partitions.

Abstract:In this paper we study the enumeration problem of a special kind of branched coverings of the Riemann sphere, whose partition function can be regarded as a generalization of the dessin partition function. First we derive a cut-and-join type representation for the generalized dessin partition function using the actions of $W$-type operators on Schur functions. Then we study the polynomial structures of the generalized dessin partition function. We prove a polynomial structure for the disconnected correlators which generalizes a result of Stanley, and then propose a conjectural polynomial structure for the connected correlators. We prove the $1$-point case of this conjecture using the KP integrability of this partition function.

Abstract:We prove that any convex body in the plane can be partitioned into $m$ convex parts of equal areas and perimeters for any integer $m\ge 2$; this result was previously known for prime powers $m=p^k$. We also discuss possible higher-dimensional generalizations and difficulties of extending our technique to equalizing more than one non-additive function.

Abstract:Let $ G = (V, E) $ be a simple, connected graph with vertex set $ V(G) $ and $ E(G) $ edge set of $ G $. For two vertices $ a $ and $ b $ in a graph $ G $, the distance $ d(a, b) $ from $ a $ to $ b $ is the length of shortest path $ a-b $ path in $ G $. A $ k $-ordered partition of vertices of $ G $ is represented as $ {R}{p} = \{{R}{p_1}, {R}{p_2}, \dots, {R}{p_k}\} $ and the representation $ r(a|{R}{p}) $ of a vertex $ a $ with respect to $ {R}{p} $ is the vector $ (d(a|{R}{p_1}), d(a|{R}{p_2}), \dots, d(a|{R}{p_k})) $. The partition is called a resolving partition of $ G $ if $ r(a|{R}{p}) \ne r(b|{R}{p}) $ for all distinct $ a, b\in V(G) $. The partition dimension of a graph, denoted by $ pd(G) $, is the cardinality of a minimum resolving partition of $ G $. Computing precise and constant values for the partition dimension poses a interesting problem; therefore, it is possible to compute an upper bound for the partition dimension within a general family of graphs. In this paper, we studied partition dimension of the some families of convex polytopes, specifically $ \mathbb{T}_n $, $ \mathbb{U}_n $, $ \mathbb{V}_n $, and $ \mathbb{A}_n $, and proved that these graphs have constant partition dimension.

Abstract:The partition perimeter is a statistic defined to be one less than the sum of the number of parts and the largest part. Recently, Amdeberhan, Andrews, and Ballantine proved the following analog of Glaisher's theorem: for all $m \geq 2$ and $n \geq 1$, there are at least as many partitions with perimeter $n$ and parts $\not \equiv 0 \pmod{m}$ as partitions with perimeter $n$ and parts repeating fewer than $m$ times. In this work, we provide a combinatorial proof of their theorem by relating the combinatorics of the partition perimeter to that of compositions. Using this technique, we also show that a composition theorem of Huang implies a refinement of another perimeter theorem of Fu and Tang.

Abstract:A bijection is given between the set of directed column-convex polyominoes on triangular and honeycomb lattices of area n and some families of restricted compositions. This is an analogous result to one given by Deutsch and Prodinger for polyominoes over square lattices. As a byproduct, we deduce new close forms for the number of hexagonal and triangular directed column-convex polyominoes of area n with k columns.

Abstract:We introduce a family of univariate polynomials indexed by integer partitions. At prime powers, they count the number of subspaces in a finite vector space that transform under a regular diagonal matrix in a specified manner. This enumeration formula is a combinatorial solution to a problem introduced by Bender, Coley, Robbins and Rumsey. At $1$, they count set partitions with specified block sizes. At $0$, they count standard tableaux of specified shape. At $-1$, they count standard shifted tableaux of a specified shape. These polynomials are generated by a new statistic on set partitions (called the interlacing number) as well as a polynomial statistic on standard tableaux. They allow us to express $q$-Stirling numbers of the second kind as sums over standard tableaux and as sums over set partitions. For partitions whose parts are at most two, these polynomials are the non-zero entries of the Catalan triangle associated to the $q$-Hermite orthogonal polynomial sequence. In particular, when all parts are equal to two, they coincide with the polynomials defined by Touchard that enumerate chord diagrams by the number of crossings.

Abstract:A polyomino is a finite, edge-connected set of cells in the plane. At the present time, an enumeration of all polyominoes is nowhere in sight. On the other hand, there are several subsets of polyominoes for which generating functions are known. For example, there exists extensive knowledge about column-convex polyominoes, a model introduced by Temperley in 1956. While studying column-convex polyominoes, researchers also gave a look at diagonally convex polyominoes (DCPs), but noticed an awkward feature: when the last diagonal of a DCP is deleted, the remaining object is not always a polyomino. So researchers focused their attention on directed DCPs. (A directed DCP is such a DCP that remains a polyomino when, for any <math>i</math>, its last <math>i</math> diagonals are deleted.) Directed DCPs gradually became well understood, whereas general DCPs have remained unexplored up to now.In this paper, we finally face general DCPs. Modulo a little trick, which saves us from dealing with non-polyominoes, we use the layered approach (described in chapter 3 of the book "Polygons, Polyominoes and Polycubes", edited by Anthony Guttmann). The computations are of remarkable bulk. Our main result is the perimeter generating function for DCPs; we denote it <math>D(d,x)</math>. The function <math>D(d,x)</math> is algebraic and satisfies an equation of degree eight. The formula for <math>D(d,x)</math> is about three pages long. That formula involves nine polynomials in <math>d</math> and <math>x</math>, and each of those polynomials is of degree 58 or more in <math>x</math>.

Minimum Star Partitions of Simple Polygons in Polynomial Time

Abstract:We devise a polynomial-time algorithm for partitioning a simple polygon $P$ into a minimum number of star-shaped polygons. The question of whether such an algorithm exists has been open for more than four decades [Avis and Toussaint, Pattern Recognit., 1981] and it has been repeated frequently, for example in O'Rourke's famous book [Art Gallery Theorems and Algorithms, 1987]. In addition to its strong theoretical motivation, the problem is also motivated by practical domains such as CNC pocket milling, motion planning, and shape parameterization. The only previously known algorithm for a non-trivial special case is for $P$ being both monotone and rectilinear [Liu and Ntafos, Algorithmica, 1991]. For general polygons, an algorithm was only known for the restricted version in which Steiner points are disallowed [Keil, SIAM J. Comput., 1985], meaning that each corner of a piece in the partition must also be a corner of $P$. Interestingly, the solution size for the restricted version may be linear for instances where the unrestricted solution has constant size. The covering variant in which the pieces are star-shaped but allowed to overlap--known as the Art Gallery Problem--was recently shown to be $\exists\mathbb R$-complete and is thus likely not in NP [Abrahamsen, Adamaszek and Miltzow, STOC 2018 & J. ACM 2022]; this is in stark contrast to our result. Arguably the most related work to ours is the polynomial-time algorithm to partition a simple polygon into a minimum number of convex pieces by Chazelle and Dobkin~[STOC, 1979 & Comp. Geom., 1985].
