Abstract:Information in some fields like complex product design is usually imprecise, vague and fuzzy. Therefore, it would be very useful to design knowledge representation model capable to be adjusted according to information dynamics. Aiming at this objective, a knowledge representation scheme is proposed, which is called DRFK (Dynamic Representation of Fuzzy Knowledge). This model has both the features of a fuzzy Petri net and the learning ability of evolutionary algorithms. An efficient Genetic Particle Swarm Optimization (GPSO) learning algorithm is developed to solving fuzzy knowledge representation parameters. Being trained, a DRFK model can be used for dynamic knowledge representation and inference. Finally, an example is included as an illustration.

Abstract:To represent and reason uncertain knowledge in the complex system dynamically and effectively, a self-adaptive method based on fuzzy-Petri net ( FPN ) and genetic particle swarm optimization ( GPSO ) algorithm is proposed. In this method, the knowledge-representation model based on FPN is established to build the mathematical model. And the GPSO is used in self-learning of the uncertain parameters to achieve self-adaptation of the model. Finally, a servo mechanism fault diagnose of launch vehicle is used to verify the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes an improved modeling algorithm based on modified fuzzy Petri net for fuzzy reasoning. The asynchronized property of token was neglected due to simple structures of fuzzy Petri net models for fuzzy reasoning in literatures. The property will cause uncertain results of reasoning for complex problems. The modeling algorithm aims mainly at solving this issue based on fuzzy Petri net whose arc power function, transition function and place capacity are modified. Compared with existing fuzzy Petri nets, the modified fuzzy Petri net can be used to reason according to inherent firing mechanism without additional control mechanism. The algorithm uses arc power and module replacement to deal with reasoning uncertainty and structure conflict. The validity of the algorithm for forward/backward reasoning is proved for acyclic fuzzy rule-based systems. An example is given to illustrate the validity of the proposed algorithm for reasoning.

Abstract:In reliability-based and cost-oriented product optimization, the target product reliability is apportioned to subsystems or components to achieve the maximum reliability and minimum cost. Main challenges to conducting such optimization design lie in how to simultaneously consider subsystem division, uncertain evaluation provided by experts for essential factors, and dynamic propagation of product failure. To overcome these problems, a reliability-based and cost-oriented product optimization method integrating fuzzy reasoning Petri net (FRPN), interval expert evaluation and cultural-based dynamic multi-objective particle swarm optimization (DMOPSO) using crowding distance sorting is proposed in this paper. Subsystem division is performed based on failure decoupling, and then subsystem weights are calculated with FRPN reflecting dynamic and uncertain failure propagation, as well as interval expert evaluation considering six essential factors. A mathematical model of reliability-based and cost-oriented product optimization is established, and the cultural-based DMOPSO with crowding distance sorting is utilized to obtain the optimized design scheme. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method are demonstrated by the numerical example of the optimization design for a computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tool.

Abstract:In cooperative multiple robot systems (CMRS), dynamic knowledge representation and inference is the key in scheduling robots to fulfill the cooperation requirements.The first goal of this work is to use rough set based rules generation method to extract dynamic knowledge of our CMRS. Kang's rough set based rules generation method is used to get fuzzy dynamic knowledge from practical decision data. The second goal of this work is to use Fuzzy Neural Petri nets (FNPN) to represent and infer the dynamic knowledge on the base of dynamic knowledge extraction with self-learning ability. In particular, we investigate a new way to extract, represent and infer dynamic knowledge with self-learning ability in CMRS. Finally, the effectiveness of the dynamic knowledge extraction, representation and inference procedure are demonstrated.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of complex product design knowledge retrieval system such as low precision, high requirements for users, large knowledge granularity, a design knowledge retrieval system based on knowledge graph（KG） and fuzzy similarity is developed. Combining reuse requirements and historical design data, a knowledge representation model is designed to establish a design knowledge network. Based on the three-tuple storage form of knowledge graph, a design knowledge retrieval framework is constructed. In addition, a sentence similarity algorithm based on the hesitant fuzzy theory is developed, which mainly fuses the characteristic attributes from the word and sentence. Further, the membership degree functions of attributes are given, respectively. And the algorithm proposed is compared and verified to be better than other retrieval algorithms. Based on the above methods, a design knowledge retrieval system is developed taking diesel engine design knowledge as an example, and the effectiveness and practicability of the system are verified through two types of design knowledge retrieval cases.

Abstract:Early in the design process, designers attempt to explore in the wide design space to generate a number of feasible solutions and decide the best concept scheme with a high degree of uncertainty according to customer demands. A strategy that can assist designers in exploring and ascertaining design solutions within this vast space is therefore crucial. However, existing product design tools mainly focus on the detailed design phase and due to lack of effective design tools, it is often difficult for human designers to explore in wide multi-disciplinary solution spaces. Therefore, this paper proposes a cognitive process-based approach for assisting designers achieving intelligent conceptual design. By analyzing designers' thinking characteristics, a design meta-thinking model is defined and a simulation model which is composed of divergent thinking and convergent thinking is put forward. Case-based reasoning and genetic algorithm are applied to stimulate divergent thinking to associate and produce feasible concept solutions. Furthermore, multiple-attribute decision-making method based on intuitionistic fuzzy number is employed to stimulate convergent thinking to obtain the best solution from generated conceptual candidate solutions. Finally, a case study is implemented on a turbo-expander. The result of this example demonstrates that the proposed approach can provide an intelligent manner to perform conceptual design. Meanwhile, a computer-aided design prototype system is developed based on this framework.

Abstract:In an industrial Avermection bioprocess, there are some different phases and some interims, so using fuzzy clustering technique to partition the whole process and using several models to represent these different phases respectively is more reasonable. Here, we built a fuzzy model for the bioprocess by a mixture method which integrates fuzzy regression clustering technique, genetic programming (GP), genetic algorithm (GA) and interpolation technique. Fuzzy regression clustering technique is used to partition the whole input space into several subspaces based on whether the training data having a similar model which is identified by GP, GA is used to optimizes the parameters of these models and interpolation technique used to define the membership grade for the input data. By this approach, we can fuzzily partition the whole process, find the structures of models which represent subspaces respectively and estimate the parameters simultaneously. Moreover, it has more chance to get a solution with better generalization.

Abstract:Uncertain factors exist in every design step,which makes the design process of complex products more and more complicated.It is necessary to correctly understand and master various uncertainty phenomena in the intelligent design process of complex products.The types and characteristics of different uncertainty factors in product design are systematically sorted out.Focusing on the process promotion of uncertain intelligent design,its research status and application scenarios are analyzed from four aspects:uncertain intelligent analysis of customer demand,uncertain intelligent solution of functional structure,uncertain intelligent decision-making of design scheme and uncertain intelligent optimization of local parameter.In view of the existing problems in current uncertain intelligent design,such as the design intention is difficult to extract under strong fuzzy redundancy,the functional behavior is difficult to reason under incomplete trust,the design scheme is difficult to decide under incomplete interval,and the structural performance is difficult to predict under mixed uncertainties,the future research directions of uncertain intelligent design for complex products are proposed.

Abstract:Aimed at the shortages of existing knowledge integration system that couldn't integrate distributed knowledge well, an open framework of knowledge integration system oriented to product design was proposed. The main function models and key technologies were analyzed. The process of product design based on knowledge integration system was studied. According to knowledge expression and reasoning technologies, the knowledge expression and reasoning system was established and the product model was depicted with XML. A novel fuzzy consistent method was proposed to search product model. Finally a prototype system of knowledge integration is developed for Auto parts and it realizes eddy current retarder design based on knowledge integration. © 2006 IEEE.

Abstract:The problem of maximum multi-reliabilities is studied aiming to the network structures. Firstly, the optimum model of network structures based on random and fuzzy chances constrained is given. The solution strategy of genetic-ant colonies algorithm with stochastic simulation and fuzzy simulated is studied, and the detailed steps of hybrid intelligence are given based on stochastic simulation and fuzzy simulation. At last, an instance is given, multi-objects model with chance constrained programming is provided, the model is solved by genetic-anti colonies algorithm. The feasibility of hybrid intelligence of genetic algorithm and ant colonies with stochastic simulation and fuzzy simulated is verified by the result of calculation.

Abstract:A fuzzy Petri net (FPN) is a powerful tool to model and analyze knowledge-based systems containing vague information. This paper systematically reviews recent developments of the FPN model from the following three perspectives: knowledge representation using FPN, reasoning mechanisms using an FPN framework, and the latest industrial applications using FPN. In addition, some specific modeling and reasoning approaches to FPN to solve the 'state-explosion problem' are illustrated. Furthermore, detailed analysis of the discussed aspects are shown to reveal some interesting findings, as well as their developmental history. Finally, we present conclusions and suggestions for future research directions.

Abstract:<p>Fuzzy rule-based models and the extension of classical fuzzy models have been widely used in many domains. From a holistic perspective, regardless of the design methods and rules adopted in a fuzzy model, the determination of fuzzy sets is a pivotal issue. In the proposed methods, instead of traditional data clustering with no directional tendency, we introduce an optimization algorithm that can adjust the position of the prototypes of zero- and first-order fuzzy models to learn internal structure information from the data in the process of parameter identification. Furthermore, to build a granular fuzzy model, the prototypes are then scaled to more robust intervals by generating information granularity with specific semantics such that they split the whole output space. Particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied to adjust both the locations of the prototypes and the allocation of information granularity to improve the performance of the data-driven models. Experimental studies on synthetic and real-world datasets are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of these methods.</p>

Abstract:In view of multi-objective optimization problem in robust design, a method combining fuzzy set theory and genetic algorithm is proposed. The approach includes a fuzzy model of multi-objective problem in robust design by taking into account principles of robust design and fuzzy factors in mechanical design, and provides Pareto optimal set to multi-objective robust design using genetic algorithm. Computational results showed that the proposed approach is efficient to multi-objective optimization problem in robust design.

Abstract:A voting-mechanism-based fuzzy neural network system is proposed in this paper. When constructing the network structure, a generalized class cover problem is presented and its two solving algorithm, an improved greedy algorithm and a binary particle swarm optimization algorithm, are proposed to get the class covers with relatively even radii, which are used to partition fuzzy input space and extract fewer robust fuzzy IF-THEN rules. Meanwhile, a weighted Mamdani inference mechanism is adopted to improve the efficiency of the system output and a real-valued particle swarm optimization-based algorithm is used to refine the system parameters. Experimental results show that the system is feasible and effective.

Abstract:Many real−world applications are dynamic multi−objective optimization problems (DMOPs). The transfer of knowledge in the evolutionary process is believed to have advantages in solving DMOPs. However, most existing works can hardly be focused on the effectiveness of knowledge, which may lead to the negative transfer to degrade searching performance of the population. To address this issue, a knowledge reconstruction (KR) method is proposed for dynamic multi−objective particle swarm optimization (DMOPSO) using fuzzy neural network (FNN). The contributions of the proposed KR−DMOPSO are threefold: First, a knowledge extraction method, using a FNN model, is developed to obtain the domain knowledge of two successive Pareto optimal sets when dynamic occurs. Then, the domain knowledge can be applied to explore the evolutionary tendency. Second, a knowledge evaluation mechanism, based on the diversity and convergence of non−dominated solutions, is devised to select the domain knowledge. Then, the effective knowledge can be achieved. Third, a knowledge reconstruction strategy is designed to obtain the suitable domain knowledge. Then, this knowledge can be used to adapt to dynamic environments to improve the searching performance of the population. Finally, the proposed KR−DMOPSO is compared with other advanced dynamic multi−objective optimization algorithms (DMOAs). The results show that the proposed KR−DMOPSO is superior to other compared algorithms.

Abstract:This paper presents a hybrid soft computing modeling approach for a neurofuzzy system based on rough set theory and the genetic algorithms (NFRSGA). The fundamental problem of a neurofuzzy system is that when the input dimension increases, the fuzzy rule base increases exponentially. This leads to a huge infrastructure network which results in slow convergence. To solve this problem, rough set theory is used to obtain the reductive rules, which are used as fuzzy rules of the fuzzy system. The number of rules decrease, and each rule does not need all the conditional attribute values. This results in a reduced, or not fully connected, neural network. The structure of the neural network is relatively small and thus the weights to be trained decrease. The genetic algorithm is used to search the optimal discretization of the continuous attributes. The NFRSGA approach has been applied in the practical application of building a soft sensor model for estimating the freezing point of the light diesel fuel in a Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU), and satisfying results are obtained.

Abstract:Fuzzy optimization is a well-known optimization problem in artificial intelligence, manufacturing and management, establishing general and operable fuzzy optimization methods are important in both theory and application. In this paper, by analyzing the essential characteristic of uncertain optimization, based on the idea of dynamic uncertainty criteria, we establish a fuzzy optimization model based on dynamic uncertainty restriction; then we give a solution method based on principal operation and dynamic uncertainty restriction (denoted by BPUO-FGA, for short), by combining with genetic algorithm; finally, we analyze the performance of BPUO-FGA by Markov chain theory and an example.

Abstract:The coupling of performance functions due to common design variables and uncertainties in an engineering design process will result in difficulties in optimization design problems, such as poor collaboration among design objectives and poor resolution of design conflicts. To handle these problems, a fuzzy interactive multi-objective optimization model is developed based on Pareto solutions, where the metric function and some additional constraints are added to ensure the collaboration among design objectives. The trade-off matrix at the Pareto solutions was developed, and the method for selecting weighting coefficients of optimization objectives is also provided. The proposed method can generate a Pareto optimal set with the maximum satisfaction degree and the minimum distance from ideal solution. The favorable optimal solution can be then selected from the Pareto optimal set by analyzing the trade-off matrix and collaborative sensitivity. Two examples are presented to illustrate the proposed method.
