Investigation on a Frequency Tunable Megawatt-Class Gyrotron at 0.24 THz

Abstract:in this paper, we present an investigation and design on a frequency tunable megawatt-class gyrotron at 0.24 THz. The gyrotron can operate at frequencies from 234 GHz to 246 GHz in steps of 2.9 GHz, with operating modes TE38.17, TE39.17, TE40.17, TE41.17, and TE42.17, respectively. In the analyses, the startup scenarios for operating modes were investigated by an in-house, developed, multi-mode, time-dependent code. The simulations result show that the output powers of 990 kW, 987 kW, 1060 kW, 1070 kW, and 1070 kW with corresponding interaction efficiencies of 36.5%, 36.8%, 39.3%, 39.5%, and 39.5% are achieved for operating modes TE38.17, TE39.17, TE40.17, TE41.17, and TE42.17, respectively.
