Abstract:Question: Due to the ubiquity of various newly emerging information and communication technologies (ICT), numerous preschoolers have obvious preferences toward electronic devices and interfaces over printed books. Given that excessive exposure to screen usually result in problems in both physical and psychological aspects, it is essential to have a brief overview of the preschoolers' reading and ICT using behavior and a deeper understanding on how parental factors affect children with respect to their reading and ICT using behaviors.Methods: In‐depth interview is employed in this study, the sample of which includes forty parents of twenty preschool children aged from 1.5 years to 6 years. Then we analyzed the data with the means of text coding and correlation analysis.Findings: There was a negative association between child's reading time and screen‐viewing time. The same result occurred among parental reading and ICT behavior. Reading time duration of parents was correlated with that of preschool children. As for ICT using, preschool children frequently learnt from mothers' ICT activities, instead of fathers'.
