Abstract:We present a spectral rigidity result for the Dirac operator on lens spaces. More specifically, we show that each homogeneous lens space and each three dimensional lens space $L(q;p)$ with $q$ prime is completely characterized by its Dirac spectrum in the class of all lens spaces.

Abstract:The structure of the spectrum of the three-dimensional Dirichlet Laplacian in a 3D polyhedral layer of fixed width is studied. It turns out that the essential spectrum is determined by the smallest dihedral angle that forms the boundary of the layer while the discrete spectrum is always finite. An example of a layer with empty discrete spectrum is constructed. The spectrum is proved to be nonempty in regular polyhedral layer.

Continuity of the Spectrum of Dirac Operators of Spectral Triples for the Spectral Propinquity

Abstract:The spectral propinquity is a distance, up to unitary equivalence, on the class of metric spectral triples. We prove in this paper that if a sequence of metric spectral triples converges for the propinquity, then the spectra of the Dirac operators for these triples do converge to the spectrum of the Dirac operator at the limit. We obtain this result by first proving that, in an appropriate sense induced by some natural metric, the bounded, continuous functional calculi defined by the Dirac operators also converge. As an application of our work, we see, in particular, that action functionals of a wide class of metric spectral triples are continuous for the spectral propinquity, which clearly connects convergence for the spectral propinquity with the applications of noncommutative geometry to mathematical physics. This fact is a consequence of results on the continuity of the multiplicity of eigenvalues of Dirac operators. In particular, we formalize convergence of adjoinable operators of different C*-correspondences, endowed with appropriate quantum metric data.

Abstract:Let T n be the real n-torus group. We introduce a new definition of lens spaces and give some sufficient conditions for diffeomorphic classification of lens spaces. We show that any 3-dimensional lens space L ( p ; q ) is T 2 -equivariantly cobordant to zero. We also give some sufficient conditions for higher dimensional lens spaces L ( p ; q 1 , … , q n ) to be T n + 1 -equivariantly cobordant to zero. General results in equivariant topology imply that torus equivariant complex bordism classes of lens spaces are trivial. In contrast, our proofs are constructive using toric topological arguments.

Topology of the Dirac equation on spectrally large three-manifolds

Abstract:The interaction between spin geometry and positive scalar curvature has been extensively explored. In this paper, we instead focus on Dirac operators on Riemannian three-manifolds for which the spectral gap $\lambda_1^*$ of the Hodge Laplacian on coexact $1$-forms is large compared to the curvature. As a concrete application, we show that for any spectrally large metric on the three-torus $T^3$, the locus in the torus of flat $U(1)$-connections where (a small generic pertubation of) the corresponding twisted Dirac operator has kernel is diffeomorphic to a two-sphere. While the result only involves linear operators, its proof relies on the non-linear analysis of the Seiberg-Witten equations. It follows from a more general understanding of transversality in the context of the monopole Floer homology of a torsion spin$^c$ three-manifold $(Y,\mathfrak{s})$ with a large spectral gap $\lambda_1^*$. When $b_1>0$, this gives rise to a very rich setup and we discuss a framework to describe explicitly in certain situations the Floer homology groups of $(Y,\mathfrak{s})$ in terms of the topology of the family of Dirac operators parametrized by the torus of flat $U(1)$-connections on $Y$.

Abstract:We consider the spectrum of the Laplace operator acting on $\mathcal{L}^p$ over a conformally compact manifold for $1 \leq p \leq \infty$. We prove that for $p \neq 2$ this spectrum always contains an open region of the complex plane. We further show that the spectrum is contained within a certain parabolic region of the complex plane. These regions depend on the value of $p$, the dimension of the manifold, and the values of the sectional curvatures approaching the boundary.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the eigenvalue problem of Dirac operator on a compact Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed into Euclidean space and derive some extrinsic estimates for the sum of arbitrary consecutive $n$ eigenvalues of the square of the Dirac operator acting on some Dirac invariant subbundles. As some applications, we deduce some eigenvalue inequalities on the compact submanifolds immersed into Euclidean space, unit sphere or projective spaces and further get some bounds of general Reilly type. In addition, we also establish some universal bounds under certain curvature condition and on the meanwhile provide an alternative proof for Anghel's result. In particular, utilizing Atiyah-Singer index theorem, we drive an upper bound estimate for the sum of the first $n$ nontrivial eigenvalues of Atiyah-Singer Laplacian acting on the spin manifolds without dimensional assumption.

Abstract:Using Givental's non-linear Maslov index we define a sequence of spectral selectors on the universal cover of the identity component of the contactomorphism group of any lens space. As applications, we prove for lens spaces with equal weights that the standard Reeb flow is a geodesic for the discriminant and oscillation norms, and we define for general lens spaces a stably unbounded conjugation invariant spectral pseudonorm.

Abstract:The quantum lens spaces form a natural and well-studied class of noncommutative spaces which has been partially classified using algebraic invariants drawing on the developed classification theory of graph $C^*$-algebras. We introduce the problem of deciding when two quantum lens spaces are equivariantly isomorphic, and solve it in certain basic cases. The results can be formulated directly in terms of the parameters defining the quantum lens spaces, and here occasionally take on a rather complicated from which convinces us that there is a deep underlying explanation for our findings. We complement the fully established partial results with computer experiments that may indicate the way forward.

Abstract:In this article, we study the Dirac spectrum of typical hyperbolic surfaces of finite area, equipped with a nontrivial spin structure (so that the Dirac spectrum is discrete). For random Weil-Petersson surfaces of large genus $g$ with $o(\sqrt{g})$ cusps, we prove convergence of the spectral density to the spectral density of the hyperbolic plane, with quantitative error estimates. This result implies upper bounds on spectral counting functions and multiplicities, as well as a uniform Weyl law, true for typical hyperbolic surfaces equipped with any nontrivial spin structure.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop a systematic framework to study the dispersion surfaces of Schrödinger operators $ -\Delta + V$, where the potential $V \in C^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n,\mathbb{R})$ is periodic with respect to a lattice $\Lambda \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ and respects the symmetries of $\Lambda$. Our analysis relies on an abstract result, that expands on a seminal work of Fefferman--Weinstein \cite{feffer12}: if an operator depends analytically on a parameter, then so do its eigenvalues and eigenprojectors away from a discrete set. As an application, we describe the generic structure of some singularities in the band spectrum of Schrödinger operators invariant under the three-dimensional simple, body-centered and face-centered cubic lattices.

Concentrating Dirac Operators and Generalized Seiberg-Witten Equations

Abstract:This article studies a class of Dirac operators of the form $D_\varepsilon= D+\varepsilon^{-1}\mathcal A$, where $\mathcal A$ is a zeroth order perturbation vanishing on a subbundle. When $\mathcal A$ satisfies certain additional assumptions, solutions of the Dirac equation have a concentration property in the limit $\varepsilon\to 0$: components of the solution orthogonal to $\ker(\mathcal A)$ decay exponentially away from the locus $\mathcal Z$ where the rank of $\ker(\mathcal A)$ jumps up. These results are extended to a class of non-linear Dirac equations. This framework is then applied to study the compactness properties of moduli spaces of solutions to generalized Seiberg-Witten equations. In particular, it is shown that for sequences of solutions which converge weakly to a $\mathbb Z_2$-harmonic spinor, certain components of the solutions concentrate exponentially around the singular set of the $\mathbb Z_2$-harmonic spinor. Using these results, the weak convergence to $\mathbb Z_2$-harmonic spinors proved in existing convergence theorems is improved to $C^\infty_{loc}$.

Abstract:We solve for quantum geometrically realised pre-spectral triples or 'Dirac operators' on the noncommutative torus and on the algebra of matrices with their standard quantum metrics and associated quantum Riemannian geometry. For , we obtain a standard even spectral triple but now uniquely determined by full geometric realisability. For , we are forced to a particular flat quantum Levi-Civita connection and again obtain a natural fully geometrically realised even spectral triple. In both cases there is an odd spectral triple for a different choice of a sign parameter. We also consider an alternate quantum metric on with curved quantum Levi-Civita connection and find a natural 2-parameter family of Dirac operators which are almost spectral triples, where fails to be antihermitian. In all cases, we split the construction into a local tensorial level related to the quantum Riemannian geometry, where we classify the results more broadly, and the further requirements relating to the pre-Hilbert space structure. We also illustrate the Lichnerowicz formula for which applies in the case of a full geometric realisation.

Abstract:We develop a unified approach to proving $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of spectral projectors, the resolvent of the Laplace-Beltrami operator and its derivative on $\mathbb{H}^d.$ In the case of spectral projectors, and when $p$ and $q$ are in duality, the dependence of the implicit constant on $p$ is shown to be sharp. We also give partial results on the question of $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of the Fourier extension operator. As an application, we prove smoothing estimates for the free Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{H}^d$ and a limiting absorption principle for the electromagnetic Schrödinger equation with small potentials.

Abstract:We determine the spectrum of Kostant's cubic Dirac operator $D^{1/3}$ on locally symmetric Lorentzian manifolds of the form $\Gamma\backslash {\rm Osc}_1$, where ${\rm Osc}_1$ is the four-dimensional oscillator group and $\Gamma\subset {\rm Osc}_1$ is a (cocompact) lattice. Moreover, we give an explicit decomposition of the regular representation of ${\rm Osc}_1$ on $L^2$-sections of the spinor bundle into irreducible subrepresentations and we determine the eigenspaces of $D^{1/3}$.

We will show that when a knot in an L-space homology sphere Y yields L(p, q) by an integral Dehn surgery, then the slope p is bounded by the genus of the knot and the correction term of Y , and we will demonstrate that many lens spaces are obtained from an L-space homology sphere whose correction term is equal to 2.6

Abstract:We consider the spectral Dirichlet problem for the Laplace operator in the plane Ω∘ with double-periodic perforation but also in the domain Ω• with a semi-infinite foreign inclusion so that the Floquet–Bloch technique and the Gelfand transform do not apply directly. We describe waves which are localized near the inclusion and propagate along it. We give a formulation of the problem with radiation conditions that provides a Fredholm operator of index zero. The main conclusion concerns the spectra σ∘ and σ• of the problems in Ω∘ and Ω•, namely we present a concrete geometry which supports the relation σ∘⫋σ• due to a new non-empty spectral band caused by the semi-infinite inclusion called an open waveguide in the double-periodic medium.

Abstract:Petrecca and Röser (Mathematische Zeitschrift 291:395–419, 2018) and Schueth (Ann Global Anal Geom 52:187–200, 2017) had shown that for a generic G -invariant metric g on certain compact homogeneous spaces (including symmetric spaces of rank 1 and some Lie groups), the spectrum of the Laplace-Beltrami operator was real G -simple. The same is not true for the complex version of when there is a presence of representations of complex or quaternionic type. We show that these types of representations induces a -action that commutes with the Laplacian in such way that G -properties of the real version of the operator have to be understood as -properties on its corresponding complex version.

Abstract:We show that for ultracontractive irreducible Dirichlet metric measure spaces, the Dirichlet spectrum is discrete for a restriction to any connected open set without any assumption on regularity of the boundary. The main applications include small deviations for the corresponding Hunt process and large time asymptotics for the generalized heat content. Our examples include Riemannian and sub-Riemannian manifolds, as well as non-smooth and fractal spaces.

Abstract:In this article, we study the spectrum of the magnetic Dirac operator, and the magnetic Dirac operator with potential over complete Riemannian manifolds. We find sufficient conditions on the potentials as well as the manifold so that the spectrum is either maximal, or discrete. We also show that magnetic Dirac operators can have a dense set of eigenvalues.
