Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical structures have been widely employed to enhance the microwave absorption performance due to their large surface area, satisfied impedance matching and polymorphic morphology. However, to achieve multiphase and multifunctional performance only within a primary unit remains a tremendous challenge. Herein, special carbon-based C/MoO2/Co(3)O(4)nanosheets were assembled into a flower-like hierarchical architecture by a facile coordination-polymerization method. Abundant Co(3)O(4)magnetic nanoparticles were anchored onto carbon nanoflake substrates, leading to both enhanced polarization and enhanced magnetic coupling. Meanwhile, a large number of heterogeneous junction interfaces among MoO(2)nanoparticles and carbon substrates enhanced the interface polarization. Therefore, the C/MoO2/Co(3)O(4)microflower achieved a minimum reflection loss of -59.7 dB at 17.7 GHz with a thickness of only 1.2 mm, indicative of its great potential as a lightweight microwave absorption material.
Oriented Polarization Tuning Broadband Absorption from Flexible Hierarchical ZnO Arrays Vertically Supported on Carbon Cloth

Abstract:A novel strategy is used to design large-scale polarized carbon-based dielectric composites with sufficient interaction to electromagnetic waves. Highly uniform polar zinc oxide arrays are vertically grown on a flexible conductive carbon cloth substrate (CC@ZnO) via an in situ orientation growth process. Anion regulation is found to be a key factor to the morphology of hierarchical ZnO arrays including single-rod, cluster and tetrapod-shaped. As a typical dielectric loss hybrid composite, the electromagnetic parameters of the CC@ZnO system and charge density distribution in polarized ZnO rods confirm that the 3D intertwined carbon cloth is used as a conductive network to provide ballistic electron transportation. Moreover, the defect-rich ZnO arrays are well in contact with the CC substrate, favoring interface polarization, multiscattering, as well as impedance matching. Surprisingly, the efficient absorption bandwidth of the CC@ZnO-1 composite can reach 10.6 GHz, covering all X and Ku bands. The oriented ZnO possesses oxygen vacancies and exposure to a large amount of intrinsic polar surfaces, encouraging the polarization behavior under microwave frequency. Optimized CC@ZnO materials exhibit fast electron transportation, strong microwave energy dissipation, and superior wide absorption. The results suggest that the CC@ZnO composites have promising potential as flexible, tuning, and broadband microwave absorbers.
Preparation of Polyaniline@MoS2@Fe3O4 Nanowires with a Wide Band and Small Thickness toward Enhancement in Microwave Absorption

Abstract:It is well-known that the absorbing property of materials is related to the microstructure and can be enhanced by magnetic nanoparticles coating. However, the mechanism is still unclear that the magnetic coating structure plays an important role in the microwave absorption behavior. Hence, a novel kind of absorber with efficient performance and relatively clear enhancement mechanism is very necessary. To solve these problems, polyaniline@MoS2 nanowires (PANI@MoS2 NWs) and a series of polyaniline@MoS2@Fe3O4 nanowires (PANI@MoS2@Fe3O4 NWs) with hierarchical structure were successfully prepared by in situ polymerization and versatile hydrothermal reactions and investigated in microwave absorption. The results reveal that compared with the articles related to MoS2-based composites, the as-prepared PANI@MoS2@Fe3O4 NWs (e(2)) displays the widest absorption frequency range (6.48 GHz) and strong absorption (-49.7 dB at a thickness of 1.3 mm), and the excellent MAP can be interpreted by optimizing impedance matching and simultaneously inhibiting skin effect rather than only focusing on magnetic loss.

Abstract:In order to tackle the electromagnetic pollution caused by the application of electromagnetic wave (EMW) in wireless communication, military industry, and other fields, broadband EMW absorption materials are urgently needed. To achieve this goal, emerging methods resort to constructing multivariate synergistic composites with unique morphology to enhance EMW absorption through diverse loss mechanisms and prominent structural advantage. Herein, a spatially tuned confinement pyrolysis strategy is proposed to design pomegranate-like MnO@NC absorption material. Unique hierarchical structure and more scattering sites are accessed via well-designed one-shell multiple cores nanostructure. N-doped carbon acts as an interwoven conductive network and restricts the movement of EMW in the shell, while nano-MnO acts as an impedance matching phase and interferes with the continuity of EMW. Moreover, the intercalation of dispersed MnO also amplifies the contribution of interfacial effect to EMW absorption, which can be verified by the calculation of the surface work function. The optimized composite possesses a maximum absorption bandwidth of 6.51 GHz at 2.4 mm and its maximum reflection loss reaches − 58.4 dB ( d = 2.3 mm). The synthesis of pomegranate-like composite provides a new direction for fabricating advanced carbonate-based EMW absorbers which are toward practical application.

Abstract:The increasing demand for wearable electronics and the intensification of electromagnetic pollution have boosted the exploration of high-performance flexible microwave absorption (MA) materials. Herein, the hierarchical Ti3C2Tx MXene/Ni chain/ZnO array hybrid nanostructures are rationally constructed on cotton fabric for acquiring enhanced MA performance and durable self-cleaning ability. Based on the high dielectric loss capacity of MXenes and ZnO arrays, by controlling dip-coating numbers of Ni chains, the magnetic loss can be manipulated to modulate the impedance matching, reflection loss (RL), and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, the bandwidth of RL < −10 dB). The minimum RL value of the designed fabric can reach −35.1 dB at 8.3 GHz with a thickness of 2.8 mm, and its EAB can cover the whole X-band with only a 2.2 mm thickness. In addition, the designed fabric also exhibits superior liquid repellency and durable self-cleaning ability due to the combination of the hybrid nanostructures and a superhydrophobic coating. Enhanced Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Properties of Ultrathin MnO2 Nanosheet-Decorated Spherical Flower-Shaped Carbonyl Iron Powder

Abstract:In this work, spherical flower-shaped composite carbonyl iron powder@MnO2 (CIP@MnO2) with CIP as the core and ultrathin MnO2 nanosheets as the shell was successfully prepared by a simple redox reaction to improve oxidation resistance and electromagnetic wave absorption properties. The microwave-absorbing properties of CIP@MnO2 composites with different filling ratios (mass fractions of 20%, 40%, and 60% after mixing with paraffin) were tested and analyzed. The experimental results show that compared with pure CIP, the CIP@MnO2 composites have smaller minimum reflection loss and a wider effective absorption bandwidth than CIP (RL < −20 dB). The sample filled with 40 wt% has the best comprehensive performance, the minimum reflection loss is −63.87 dB at 6.32 GHz, and the effective absorption bandwidth (RL < −20 dB) reaches 7.28 GHz in the range of 5.92 GHz–9.28 GHz and 11.2 GHz–15.12 GHz, which covers most C and X bands. Such excellent microwave absorption performance of the spherical flower-like CIP@MnO2 composites is attributed to the combined effect of multiple beneficial components and the electromagnetic attenuation ability generated by the special spherical flower-like structure. Furthermore, this spherical flower-like core–shell shape aids in the creation of discontinuous networks, which improve microwave incidence dispersion, polarize more interfacial charges, and allow electromagnetic wave absorption. In theory, this research could lead to a simple and efficient process for producing spherical flower-shaped CIP@MnO2 composites with high absorption, a wide band, and oxidation resistance for a wide range of applications.

Abstract:The development of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials with lightweight, wide absorption bandwidth, thin thickness, and strong EMW absorption performance has become a hotspot. Herein, the morphology-controlled preparation of alpha-manganese dioxide (alpha-MnO2) was successfully obtained via a facile hydrothermal method, and the EMW absorption performance of alpha-MnO2 was investigated in detail. The results indicated the as-obtained Mn-1.0-120 possessed the best EMW absorption performance with minimum reflection loss of -53.43 dB at about 5.2 GHz with a thickness of 4.1 mm originated from the synergistic effects of multiply scattering, dielectric loss, and magnetic loss. This contribution demonstrates that the MnO2 has promising candidates with a tunable EMW absorption performance for applications in the electromagnetic field in the future.
Dramatically Enhanced Electromagnetic Wave Absorption of Hierarchical CNT/Co/C Fiber Derived from Cotton and Metal-Organic-framework

Abstract:Lightweight, low-cost electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption materials are in urgent need, as EM interference pollution is increasingly serious. Carbon material as EM absorber has attracted ever increasing attention. However, their absorption property is still limited. Herein, we propose a very simple strategy to prepare hierarchical carbon fiber coated with Co/C nano-dodecahedron particles where CNTs were anchored (HCF@CZ-CNTs), using cotton and metal-organic-framework (MOF) as raw materials. One of MOF, ZIF-67 particles were in-situ grown onto the surface of cotton fibers. Lightweight HCF@CZ-CNTs samples were obtained by direct carbonization, the apparent density of which is only 0.0198 g/cm(3). The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of hierarchical HCF@CZ-CNTs was dramatically enhanced to -53.5 dB at 7.8 GHz, compared with pure carbonized cotton fiber (RLmin = -18.9 dB at 16 GHz). Meanwhile the effectively absorption bandwidth was also remarkably enlarged to 8.02 GHz. The excellent EM wave absorption performance is attributed to the micro-to-nano hierarchical hollow fibrous structure, as well as the synergetic effect of polarization relaxation and magnetic loss. These results illuminate a low-cost and sustainable strategy to prepare ultra-lightweight microwave absorbers with excellent EM wave absorbing ability utilizing biomass precursor and MOF. Abstract:Highly symmetrical streamlined peanut‐like MnO@C composite is successfully constructed. Off‐axis electron holography technique and COMSOL simulation are utilized confirmed peanut‐like MnO@C middle narrow junction interface inducing surface plenty electric dipole to enhance microwave absorption bandwidth. Highly symmetrical and streamlined nanostructures possessing unique electron scattering, electron‐phonon coupling, and electron confinement characteristics have attracted a lot of attention. However, the controllable synthesis of such a nanostructure with regulated shapes and sizes remains a huge challenge. In this work, a peanut‐like MnO@C structure, assembled by two core–shell nanosphere is developed via a facile hydrogen ion concentration regulation strategy. Off‐axis electron holography technique, charge reconstruction, and COMSOL Multiphysics simulation jointly reveal the unique electronic distribution and confirm its higher dielectric sensitive ability, which can be used as microwave absorption to deal with currently electromagnetic pollution. The results reveal that the peanut‐like core–shell MnO@C exhibits great wideband properties with effective absorption bandwidth of 6.6 GHz, covering 10.8–17.2 GHz band. Inspired by this structure‐induced sensitively dielectric behavior, promoting the development of symmetrical and streamlined nanostructure would be attractive for many other promising applications in the future, such as piezoelectric material and supercapacitor and electromagnetic shielding.

Abstract:The assembly of magnetic and dielectric materials around carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can create specific microstructures, leading to materials with relatively high microwave absorbing properties. Here, through a facile process, nickel iron oxide (NiFe2O4) is synthesized and placed on the surface of CNTs and this material is covered with manganese oxide (MnO2). In this hierarchical multi-layered nanomaterial (CNT-NiFe2O4@MnO2) produced though a two-step wet chemistry method followed by calcination at 200 ℃, CNTs are uniformly covered by NiFe2O4 nanoparticles formed in situ over which the MnO2 layer is deposited. Although CNT-NiFe2O4@MnO2 exhibits weaker soft magnetic performance, its magnetic attenuation is higher than for CNT-NiFe2O4. Structural effects produce differences between the constant and alternating magnetic properties of these materials. With a reflection loss (RL) of −17 dB and effective absorption bandwidth of 3.8 GHz, the microwave absorption of CNT-NiFe2O4@MnO2 is superior to that of CNTs and CNT-NiFe2O4. The hierarchical multi-layered structure increases the phase interface area and rearranges magnetic particles, leading respectively to higher interface polarization and natural resonance. The conductive mesh structure induces magnetic coupling which attenuates the electromagnetic field. This material employs a new approach to design and synthesize carbon-based hierarchical multi-layered microstructures with high microwave absorption.

Abstract:MnO-Co@C nanospheres were fabricated by in situ polymerizing and high-temperature carbonizing processes. This unique synthesis method does not require any template or reducing gas. The synthesized multicore-shell structure has a shell of about 500 nm and multiple nuclei of several tens of nanometers. Subsequently, extensive experiments were conducted to adjust the material composition of the nanospheres by adjusting the amount of resorcinol and formaldehyde. The results showed that the obtained material performed best when resorcinol and formaldehyde were added to 0.2 g MnCo2O4 at 0.3 g and 0.42 mL, respectively. The efficient absorption bandwidth (EAB) value reaches 3.3 GHz when the absorber thickness is 3 mm. The reflection loss (RL) is up to −23.8 dB when the frequency is at 8.6 GHz. The unique yolk core-shell structure gives the material a heterogeneous interface, and the enhanced interfacial polarization loss causes the enhanced dielectric loss. The carbon layer with microporosity also causes conduction loss and multiple reflections. The composite structure formed by metallic Co, MnO, and carbon has better impedance matching and improved microwave absorption capability.

Abstract:Molybdenum selenide (MoSe 2 ), as a potential electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorber, its phase influence on the EMW absorption performance has not yet been investigated. Herein, we synthesized MoSe 2 by a one-step hydrothermal approach, while controlling the intensity of reduction process to modulate the phase of MoSe 2 . The influence of MoSe 2 with different phases on the EMW absorption performance is intuitively revealed by comparing corresponding performances. Remarkably, 2H/1T-MoSe 2 exhibit the optimal absorption performance with a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −52.3 GHz and an effective bandwidth (EAB) of 6.4 GHz at 2.1 nm thickness, which cover the whole Ku band. Besides, to meet the growing demand for wearable electronics, a flexible microwave absorbing material with RL min of −33.4 GHz was created by constructing 2H/1T-MoSe 2 @RGO layered nanostructures on the surface of cotton fabric. Especially at the thickness of 3.3 mm, EAB can cover the whole X-band. Above composite fabrics also possess excellent self-cleaning and corrosion resistance as a result of layered nanostructures and hydrophobic coatings. This work not only provides a crucial reference for advancing the electromagnetic wave absorption performance via phase engineering, but also proposes an novel idea for the development of fiber-based multifunctional flexible microwave absorbing materials.

Abstract:Constructing nanostructures with abundant heterogeneous interfaces is highly efficient in improving microwave absorbing properties. Herein, a simple chemical vapor deposition (CVD) route for the in-situ growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the voids of MnO particles clusters skeleton has been developed to fabricate MnO/CNTs heterostructure composites with tunable dielectric properties. The optimized MnO/CNTs-1 composite with 45 wt% CNTs content exhibits comprehensive enhanced microwave absorption performance, with the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) can reach -50.6 dB (20 wt% in paraffin composite). The effective absorption bandwidth (RL < -10 dB, 90% absorption) up to 13.7 GHz was achieved by adjusting the thickness from 2 to 5 mm, covering the entire C, X and Ku bands. Herein, the MnO particles and CNTs networks act as skeleton and crosslinker, respectively. The MnO particles attached throughout the CNTs networks can provide multiple interfacial polarization and multiple scattering/reflection. Our works provide new insights for the facile designing lightweight nanostructure to enhance the microwave absorption performance of the CNTs.

C/Mno@Void@C With Triple Balances For Superior Microwave Absorption Performance

Abstract:It is very promising and challenging to construct a yolk-shell structure with highly efficient microwave absorption (MA) performance through a simple fabrication process. Here, a novel C/MnO@void@C (MCC) yolk-shell structure has been successfully synthesized by one-step calcination without additional processing. The as-obtained MCC composites with tunable crystallinity degrees and hollowness can be obtained by treatment at various temperatures. The MCC composites treated at 700 degrees C (MCC-700) show an impressive MA performance, and the optimal reflection loss of -53.2 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.4 GHz can be obtained. This excellent performance results from multiple balance mechanisms. First, the regulated permittivity of MCC-700 due to proper crystallinity and hollowness is beneficial for the balance between dielectric loss (tan delta(epsilon)) and impedance match (Z(im)). Second, the optimal balance between the increasing polarization range and decreasing polarization intensity can be achieved, which is favorable for the improvement of the MA performance. Third, the multicore yolk-shell structure of MCC-700 is conducive to multiple scattering and continuous energy dissipation. Thus, our new findings provide a rational way for the utilization of yolk-shell structural manganese-based materials.

Considering the advantage of microstructure and chemical composition regulation for the design of EMW absorber, hierarchical heterostructured MoS 2 /CoS 2 -Co 3 O 4 @cabonized cotton fabric (CF) (MCC@CCF) is prepared by growing ZIF-67 MOFs onto CF surface, chemical etching, and carbonization. Aside from the dual loss mechanism of magnetic-dielectric multicomponent carbonized MOFs, chemical etching and carbonization process can effectively introduce abundant micro-gap structure that can result in better impedance matching and stronger absorption capacity via internal reflection, doped heteroatoms (Mo, N, S) to supply additional dipolar polarization loss, and numerous heterointerfaces among MoS 2 , CoS 2 , Co 3 O 4 , and CCF that produce promoted conduction loss and interfacial polarization loss. Thus, a minimal reflection loss of −52.87 dB and a broadest effective absorption bandwidth of 6.88 GHz were achieved via tunning the sample thickness and filler loading, showing excellent EMW absorption performances. This research is of great value for guiding the research on MOFs derivatives based EMW absorbing materials.

Hollow Co/NC@MnO2 polyhedrons with enhanced synergistic effect for high-efficiency microwave absorption

Abstract:High-efficiency microwave absorbents with lightweight characteristics possess prospective applications in electromagnetic radiation protection, but still face huge challenges. Herein, hollow Co/NC@MnO2 (H–Co/NC@MnO2) polyhedrons with hierarchical structure and enhanced synergistic effect are successfully fabricated via the collaborative steps of etching-pyrolysis-hydrothermal reaction. Specifically, hollow engineering of Co/NC with heteroatoms endow the polyhedrons with lightweight characteristics, dipolar polarization and magnetic loss, hierarchical MnO2 nanosheets with oxygen vacancies grant dielectric loss and multiple scattering, and the dielectric-magnetic synergistic effect between Co/NC and MnO2 promote impedance matching and strengthen interfacial polarization. Benefiting from the above mentioned advantages, the H–Co/NC@MnO2 polyhedrons exhibit high-efficiency microwave attenuation at a low filler loading of 20 wt%. The optimal reflection loss reaches −54.7 dB and the effective absorption bandwidth ranges from 11.8 GHz to 18 GHz (6.2 GHz) with a thickness of only 2.1 mm. These findings provide us a promising strategy in developing high-efficiency and lightweight microwave absorbents for practical applications.

Abstract:The phase transition process of the MnO2 phase with increases in Co2+ doping can be described by the Ouroboros symbol. The undoped sample is pure δ-MnO2 with nanosheets structures. Then a small amount of Co2+ ions changes the final products and generates α-MnO2 nanofibres in the δ-MnO2 matrix. The products become pure α-MnO2 with an appropriate amount of Co added. However, when the Co amount continues to increase, the amount of α-MnO2 decreases in the products and turns back to form pure δ-MnO2 in the end. Analysing the electromagnetic absorption performance, the relationship between the properties and the proportion of δ-MnO2/α-MnO2 in the powders adjusted by Co2+ doping has been explored, and the composites of δ-/α-MnO2 show better absorption ability than the single-phase samples. As a result, the optimal reflection loss (RL) is −54.8 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth can cover the Ku band at a thickness of 2.2 mm and the X band at a thickness of 3.1 mm with 50 wt.% filler loading ratios. This research might shed new light on the improvement of novel microwave absorption materials.

Enhanced Microwave Absorption Properties of Novel Hierarchical Core-Shell Δ/α MnO2 Composites

Abstract:Three types of hierarchical MnO2 nanostructures were prepared by a facile one-pot hydrothermal process. The crystal phase and microstructure were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and HRTEM. The microsphere/ nanosheets structures were found to be layered delta-MnO2 at 120 degrees C. The dual-phase core-shell structure with the core of delta-MnO2 microsphere/nanosheets and the shell of alpha-MnO2 nanorods was synthesized at 150 degrees C. At 180 degrees C, a hollow urchin-like alpha-MnO(2 )structure was obtained. By analysis of the microwave absorption properties of these MnO2, the enhanced microwave absorption properties were observed in core-shell composites, and the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -45.2 dB at 4.5 GHz with the thickness of 3.9 mm has been achieved with 40 wt% absorbers in wax composites. The excellent microwave absorption properties of the composites are originated from the good impedance match caused by the core-shell heterostructure and more interfacial polarizations between delta-MnO2 microsphere/nanosheets and alpha-MnO2 nanorods.

Abstract:Exploring highly efficient electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing materials with strong absorption and low density is a viable strategy to address the growing issue of electromagnetic pollution. A type of carbon-coated MnO (MnO@C) microspheres with enhanced EMW absorption properties was synthesized via the precipitation method, followed by a facile sol-gel process. The results demonstrate that the carbon source content is critical in determining the thickness of the carbon shell, which in turn has a great impact on impedance matching and attenuation constant. Due to the moderately complex permittivity of MnO@C microspheres, the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) reaches -43.69 dB at 15.03 GHz with an ultra-thin matching thickness of only 1.53 mm. Additionally, the corresponding effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) is 4.81 GHz. The enhanced performance can mainly be attributed to appropriate impedance matching and multiple attenuation mechanisms, including interfacial polarization, defect-induced polarization, and conduction loss. Therefore, the MnO@C microspheres are considered to be suitable for high-efficiency microwave absorbers.
