Abstract:Cable-stayed bridges are prone to suffering from seismic excitations with spatial variability. In this paper, A floating cable-stayed bridge with 420-m-long main span was selected as an example bridge. Cable sliding friction aseismic bearings (CSFABs) were applied to this bridge to change the transfer path of seismic load and reduce seismic response of vulnerable components. Aseismic performance of this bridge is evaluated with fragility analysis. To comprehensively evaluate the aseismic performance of this bridge, joint probabilistic seismic demand model and Monte Carlo simulation are combined to obtain system vulnerability. System vulnerability curves of nine cases under non-uniform excitation are generated to analyze the influence of site effect and incoherence effect. The result indicates the system fragility falls between the lower and upper bounds and the bridge as a system is more fragile than any one of the bridge components. With the local site type along the propagation path turns from firm to median and soft, the vulnerability of the whole bridge increases. The cable-stayed bridge becomes more fragile with the increase of incoherence effect, and the influence is more obvious than local site effect. The damage probability of the cable-stayed bridge under non-uniform excitation is much higher than that under uniform excitation. Without consideration of spatial variation would overestimate the aseismic behavior of cable-stayed bridges.
