Abstract:The development of pyridylidene-Cu-complexes and their application in Cu/Pd-catalyzed heteroarylboration of alkenylheteroarenes is reported. The significance of 1,1'-heteroarylalkanes as building blocks for drug discovery, as well as the straightforward and modular sequence to prepare the pyridylidene-Cu-complexes, makes this catalyst and it applications attractive for chemical synthesis. Furthermore, chiral variants of the pyridylidene-Cu-complexes have been prepared and utilized in the enantioselective arylboration of E-alkenes, further demonstrating the value and potential of this class of catalysts.

Abstract:A cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov-type hydroboration of terminal alkynes with HBpin to access alpha-alkenyl boronates with good regioselectivity and atom economy is reported. A new ligand has been developed for the cobalt hydride catalyst that has been used for a unique Markovnikov selective insertion of terminal alkynes into metal hydride bond. This operationally simple protocol exhibits excellent functional group tolerance to deliver valuable alkene derivatives.

Abstract:Herein, we report a practical strategy for the synthesis of structurally novel quinol-type heterobiaryls. A wide range of 1-(quinolin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ols were afforded with good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. The synthetic utility of this protocol was further demonstrated by large-scale reaction. Furthermore, exploration on enantioselective synthesis of axially chiral C2-arylquinoline skeletons were also performed with good enantiopurity through a phase-transfer-catalyzed dynamic kinetic resolution.

Abstract:A new strategy for the synthesis of 1,1-diaryl and triarylsubstituted alkenes has been developed utilizing B(C6F5)(3)-catalyzed hydroarylation of alkynes with phenols. The method provides a direct route to ortho-alkenylated phenols with both terminal and internal alkynes. The reactions show excellent regioselectivity, and good stereoselectivity was observed for the hydroarylation of internal alkynes. Computational and experimental studies suggest that for the reaction of internal alkynes and phenols, an acid-catalyzed isomerization mechanism involving two tertiary carbonium ion intermediates is responsible for the formation of Z-triaryl substituted alkenes.

Abstract:A method to achieve enantioselective 1,4-hydroboration of terminal enynes to access allenyl boronates under CuH catalysis is described. The reaction typically proceeds in a highly stereoselective manner and tolerates an array of synthetically useful functional groups. The utility of the enantioenriched allenyl boronate products is demonstrated through several representative downstream derivatizations.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed highly anti-selective radical 1,2-alkylarylation of terminal alkynes with aryl boronic acids and alkyl bromides has been established. The reaction exhibits high compatibility with a wide range of terminal alkynes and diverse aryl boronic acids, thus providing facile access to various stereodefined trisubstituted alkenes in high yield under mild reaction conditions. Abstract:β-Aryl ketones are present in various natural products and bioactive molecules. Till now, -aryl ketone has been synthesized through the directing group (DG) approach or Mizoroki-Heck coupling. Herein, we reported a palladium(II) catalyzed dual ligand-enabled non-directed C−H alkylation with arene and heteroarene as a limiting reagent for the synthesis of -(hetero)aryl ketones. The combined influence of 2-methyl quinoxaline and N-acetyl phenylalanine ligands imparts complementary selectivity, facilitating the diversification of drugs and natural products through C−H alkylation. Integrated experimental and computational mechanistic studies demonstrate the C−H activation as both the regio- and rate-determining step. Interestingly, while the Pd−Ag heterobimetallic species is not directly involved in the 1,2-migratory insertion step, it is proposed to play a vital role during the product release phase of the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A method for the allylic amidation of tautomerizable heterocycles was developed by a palladium catalyzed allylation reaction with 100% atom economy. A series of structurally diverse N-allylic substituted heterocycles can be synthesized in good yields with high chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivities under mild conditions.

The reaction is under mild conditions and uses simple and inexpensive CuI as the catalyst. Mechanistically, the reaction follows a pathway involving Cu(I) carbene migratory insertion.

Abstract:The construction of (hetero)biaryls, which are ubiquitous scaffolds among medical substances, functional materials, and agrochemicals, constitutes a key application of cross-coupling methods. However, these usually require multiple synthetic steps. Herein, we report a simple photoinduced and catalyst-free C–H/C–H (hetero)arylation cross-coupling through aryl thianthrenium salts, which are formed site-selectively by direct C–H functionalization. The key to this approach is the UV-light, which can disrupt the C–S bond to form thianthrene radical cations and aryl radicals.

Abstract:The direct transition-metal-catalyzed addition of C–H bonds to unsaturated C=X (X=C, O, and N) bonds via C–H bond activation has been recognized as a powerful tool for the construction of C–C bonds (in terms of atom and step economy). Herein, the direct rhodium-catalyzed C–H bond addition of aromatic ketones to allylic alcohols and α,β-unsaturated ketones that afford β-aryl carbonyl compounds is described, in which a ketone carbonyl acts as a weakly coordinating directing group. It was found that the type of alkyl in aromatic ketones is crucial for the success of the reaction. This transformation provides a convenient and efficient methodology for the synthesis of 2-alkyl aromatic ketones in moderate-to-excellent yields.

Abstract:Using terminal alkyne as a nontraditional one-carbon (C1) unit and silylborane as an external silicon pronucleophile, a relay palladium/copper-catalyzed silylative [5 + 1] benzannulation of 3-acetoxy-1,4-enynes for producing polysubstituted arylsilanes, especially including bioactive motif-based analogues, in a single reaction step through benzene ring skeleton assembly and silyl intermolecular incorporation cascades is developed. Abstract:Alkynones are valuable compounds with applications in various areas. In this work, we developed an efficient carbonylation procedure for the carbonylative cross-coupling of aryl thianthrenium salts with aromatic alkynes. Various useful alkynones were produced in moderate to excellent yields under mild conditions. Notably, among the various tolerated functional groups, the bromide group can be maintained, which is ready for further coupling reactions.

Abstract:Hydroalkylation of alkynes is a powerful method for alkene synthesis. However, regioselectivity has been difficult to achieve in transformations of internal alkynes hindering applications in the synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes. To overcome these limitations, we explored using boryl groups as versatile directing groups that can control the regioselectivity of the hydroalkylation and subsequently be replaced in a cross‐coupling reaction. The result of our exploration is a nickel‐catalyzed hydroalkylation of alkynyl boronamides that provides access to a wide range of trisubstituted alkenes with high regio‐ and diastereoselectivity. The reaction can be accomplished with a variety of coupling partners, including primary and secondary alkyl iodides, α‐bromo esters, α‐chloro phthalimides, and α‐chloro boronic esters. Preliminary studies of the reaction mechanism provide evidence for the hydrometalation mechanism and the formation of alkyl radical intermediates.

Abstract:Developing simple and benign protocols for synthesizing alkenylboronates is crucial as they are synthetically valuable compounds in various organic transformations. In this work, we report a straightforward ligand‐free protocol for synthesizing alkenylboronates via atom‐economical hydroboration of alkynes with HBpin catalyzed by a manganese salt. The reaction shows a high level of chemo and regioselectivity for the terminal alkynes and exclusively produces E‐selective alkenylboronates. The hydroboration scope is vast, with the resilience of a range of synthetically beneficial functionalities, such as halides, ether, alkenyl, silyl and thiophenyl groups. This reaction proceeds through the involvement of a metal‐hydride intermediate. The developed alkenylboronate can be smoothly converted to useful C−C, C−N and C−I bond‐forming reactions.

Abstract:A deoxygenative radical alkylation of aromatic alkynes with alkyl aldehydes for the preparation of allylarenes has been successfully achieved. This transformation is accomplished through the reaction of alkyl aldehydes with alkynes in the presence of dipropylamine and Hantzsch ester catalyzed by a P/N heteroleptic Cu(I)-based photosensitizer under photoredox catalysis conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that this aldehyde-alkyne coupling process comprises a regioselective radical addition of in situ-generated alkyl-substituted alpha-amino radicals to alkynes with subsequent 1,5-proton transfer, C-N bond cleavage, and concomitant isomerization of the resulting allyl radical species. Thus, in net result, dipropylamine serves as a traceless linker agent for the deoxygenative radical cross-coupling of alkyl aldehydes with alkynes under photoredox catalysis reaction conditions.
