Abstract:The highest magnitude of induced voltage on a pipeline is dangerous for utility operators. In this paper, the induced voltages and currents on the proposed realistic pipeline near 275 kV high voltage transmission lines along the Muara-Tungku highway in Brunei were calculated under steady-state and lightning conditions using a MATLAB-based software. For calculations, a uniform soil resistivity of 30Ω-m, 50Ω-m and 81 Ω-m and a load current of 1373A for the transmission lines were considered. The induced voltages on the pipeline were found to be 6.94 V, 6.09 V and 2.07 V for the centreline symmetric (ABC-ABC), partial-roll upper symmetric (ABC-BAC) and centre point symmetric (ABC-CBA) lines, respectively. In addition, the induced voltages and currents with different lightning conditions were calculated and its mitigation was also investigated. Furthermore, the induced voltage estimation was performed using various machine learning techniques and a high coefficient of determination was found in ensemble methods.
