Abstract:The utilization of porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as catalyst support has attracted intensive attentions in heterogeneous catalysis. However, the study of structure-activity relationship in this confined catalysis system is still scarce. Herein, three isostructural Co(II)-MOFs {Co2L(bpy)}n (CTGU-11), {Co2L(bpe)}n (CTGU-12) and {Co2L(bib)}n (CTGU-13) were synthesized by using 4,4′,4″,4‴-(1,3,6,8-Pyrenetetrayl)tetrabenzoic acid (H4L) as an organic ligand, and introducing three N-donor ligands (bpy = 4,4′-dipyridyl, bpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene, bib = 1,4-bis(1-imidazoly)benzene) with different length. Among these Co(II)-MOFs, each L4− anion bridges four typical paddle wheel secondary building units (SBUs) to form a two dimensional (2D) sheet, which further expanded to the three-fold interpenetrated structure with the aid of different pillared ligands. Inspired by the eligible structure/surface feature of these frameworks, a series of Co-MOF-supported heterogeneous catalysts (NM@Co-MOFs, NM = Ag, Ru, Pd and Au) have been fabricated successfully via solution infiltration, for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4NP). Impressively, 2-Ru@Co-MOFs exhibit remarkable activity in comparison to other NM@Co-MOFs composites with the apparent rate constant reach 50.72 s-1 g-1, 26.14 s-1 g-1, and 22.79 s-1 g-1, respectively. Furthermore, the possible catalytic mechanism of 2-Ru@Co-MOFs has also been discussed based on the analysis of reaction kinetics.

Abstract:Direct fabrication of core-shell or yolk-shell functional nanomaterials via a facile template-free method remains a challenge. In this work, we present a novel approach that involves straightforward chemical transformation and thermal treatment of the infinite coordination polymer particles to obtain composition-tunable CeO(2) yolk-shell structures. Uniform CeO(2) yolk-shell hollow spheres with a high surface area are promising support materials for tiny gold nanoparticles (ca. 4 nm), forming Au-CeO(2) nanocomposites which exhibit a remarkable catalytic activity and high stability for the reduction of p-nitrophenol. A possible mechanism for the formation of CeO(2) yolk-shell microspheres is also proposed.

Abstract:Metallic Ni catalysts often suffer from serious aggregation and poor stability during the process of catalysis. In this work, core–shell nanostructures with nanosized MoO 2 –Ni nanoparticles (NPs) and mesoporous SiO 2 (mSiO 2 ) shells were well designed to address these issues. The Ni–MoO 2 hybrid cores were converted from hierarchical NiMoO 4 microtubes inside the SiO 2 shell through carbonization treatment to remove the hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) template under the protection of a nitrogen atmosphere. The mesoporous SiO 2 shells in Ni–MoO 2 @mSiO 2 nanoreactors prevented the agglomeration/sintering of Ni NPs, while allowing the mass diffusion of small molecules. Owing to the high catalytic performance of Ni–MoO 2 cores, good protection of mesoporous silica, and the unique sandwich-like structure, the obtained Ni–MoO 2 @mSiO 2 nanoreactors showed tremendous improvement in catalytic activity and stability.

Effective Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol with Au NPs Loaded Ultrathin Two Dimensional Metal-Organic Framework Nanosheets

Abstract:The catalysis performance of noble metal nanoparticles always suffered from harsh aggregation during reaction hence promising supports that were able to restrict as well disperse the NPs were in great demand. Herein we reported a bottom-up synthesis of ultrathin two dimensional ferrocene based metal-organic framework (FMOF) nanosheets employing ZrCl4 and 1,1'-ferrocene-dicarboxylic acid as metal nodes and organic ligands respectively. Employed as a stable and easy-contacted support, Au NPs were reduced and attached on the surface of FMOF nanosheets with average diameter of ca. 5 nm. The obtained Au/MOF composite was used in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, and rapid conversion of almost 100% could be achieved in 5 min with a maximum TOF of 10.9 x 10(-4) mol min(-1) m(2). Moreover, after 10 cycles of the reusability test, there was no obvious decline in catalytic performance with conversion of almost 100%, confirming the unprecedented stability of this Au-MOF composite.

Abstract:Metallic Co4N catalysts have been considered as one of the most promising non-noble materials for heterogeneous catalysis because of their high electrical conductivity, great magnetic property, and high intrinsic activity. However, the metastable properties seriously limit their applications for heterogeneous water phase catalysis. In this work, a novel Co-metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived hollow porous nanocages (PNCs) composed of metallic Co4N and N-doped carbon (NC) were synthesized for the first time. This hollow three-dimensional (3D) PNC catalyst was synthesized by taking advantage of Co-MOF as a precursor for fabricating 3D hollow Co3O4@C PNCs, along with the NH3 treatment of Co-oxide frames to promote the in situ conversion of Co-MOF to Co4N@NC PNCs, benefiting from the high intrinsic activity and electron conductivity of the metallic Co4N phase and the good permeability of the hollow porous nanostructure as well as the efficient doping of N into the carbon layer. Besides, the covalent bridge between the active Co4N surface and PNC shells also provides facile pathways for electron and mass transport. The obtained Co4N@NC PNCs exhibit excellent catalytic activity and stability for 4-nitrophenol reduction in terms of low activation energy (Ea = 23.53 kJ mol(-1)), high turnover frequency (52.01 X 10(20) molecule g(-1) min(-1)), and high apparent rate constant (k(app) = 2.106 min(-1)). Furthermore, its magnetic property and stable configuration account for the excellent recyclability of the catalyst. It is hoped that our finding could pave the way for the construction of other hollow transition metal-based nitride@NC PNC catalysts for wide applications.

Abstract:The development of effective catalysts for catalytic reduction of the toxic 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) into useful 4-Aminophenol (4-AP) has received wide interest. Herein, we report the synthesis of Titanium Metal–Organic Framework (Ti-MOF)/MoS2 hybrid nanostructure as potential catalyst for the reduction of 4-NP. Various characterization tools such as FESEM, TEM, XRD, and XPS have been used to conduct the morphological and structural analysis of the hybrid nano catalyst. The catalytic studies suggest that the as-prepared Ti-MOF, MoS2, and Ti-MOF/MoS2 hybrid nanostructures effectively catalyze the reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP in the presence of NaBH4. The rate constant (Kapp) of MOF/MoS2 hybrid nanostructure is found to be 1.208 min−1, which proves its higher catalytic performance in comparison with the pristine samples. Additionally, its preeminent reusability performance makes MOF/MoS2 hybrid nanostructure to be used as effective and practical catalyst. Through this work, the potential for the heterostructure's high catalytic activity is conversed and a possible reaction mechanism is proposed. Our findings confirm that the hybrid MOF@MoS2 nanoflakes have provided a promising interface for the hydrogenation procedure on the catalytic surface, thereby making it an excellent catalytic material to be further investigated.

Abstract:A facile and effective synthetic route has been utilized to synthesize nanoporous carbons (NPCs)/cobalt nanoparticles (CoNPs) composites by direct carbonization of a Co-MOF. The combination of various spectroscopic tools demonstrated that the CoNPs (about 5 nm in diameter) in the resultant composites were evenly installed in the carbon matrix without any aggregations. Furthermore, the size of the CoNPs can be easily controlled by adjusting the temperature of the hydrothermal treatment. Results of UV–Visible spectrophotometer demonstrated the significant effects of the obtained structure on the reduction of the targeted pollutant 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The high reaction activity catalysed by CoNPs with the presence of sodium borohydride is attributed to nanostructure advantage and the high surface area.

Abstract:As CeO2 is a useful catalyst for soot elimination, it is important to develop CeO2 with higher contact areas, and reactivities for efficient soot oxidation and catalytic soot oxidation are basically controlled by structures and surface properties of catalysts. Herein, a Ce-Metal organic framework (MOFs) consisting of Ce and benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3BTC) is employed as the precursor as CeBTC exhibits a unique bar-like high-aspect-ratio morphology, which is then transformed into CeO2 with a nanoscale bar-like configuration. More importantly, this CeO2 nanobar (CeONB) possesses porou, and even hollow structures, as well as more oxygen vacancies, enabling CeONB to become a promising catalyst for soot oxidation. Thus, CeONB shows a much higher catalytic activity than commercial CeO2 nanoparticle (comCeO) for soot oxidation with a significantly lower ignition temperature (Tig). Moreover, while soot oxidation by comCeO leads to production of CO together with CO2, CeONB can completely convert soot to CO2. The tight contact mode also enables CeONB to exhibit a very low Tig of 310 °C, whereas the existence of NO also enhances the soot oxidation by CeONB to reduce the Tig. The mechanism of NO-assisted soot oxidation is also examined, and validated by DRIFTS to identify the formation and transformation of nitrogen-containing intermediates. CeONB is also recyclable over many consecutive cycles and maintained its high catalytic activity for soot oxidation. These results demonstrate that CeONB is a promising and easily prepared high-aspect-ratio Ce-based catalyst for soot oxidation.

Abstract:4-nitrophenol usually exists in soil and groundwater, which brings great harm to the environment and human health. So, removal of 4-nitrophenol becomes the focus of research. Herein, a smart synthetic strategy of NH2-MIL-88B(Fe)@Au@COFs is proposed for the first time. NH2-MIL-88B(Fe)@Au@COFs is composed of NH2-MIL-88B(Fe) as core and COFs as shell with Au nanoparticles. Au nanoparticles in NH2-MIL-88B(Fe)@Au@COFs exhibit good dispersion and thermal stability due to amino group immobilization on NH2-MIL-88B(Fe). The core-shell structure, high thermal stability and high dispersed active sites of NH2-MIL-88B(Fe)@Au@COFs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and so on. To the best of our knowledge, 4-nitrophenol was reduced to 4-aminophenol using NH2-MIL-88B(Fe)@Au@COFs as catalyst, NaBH4 as reductant and 4-nitrophenol as raw material at room temperature. The catalyst has high catalytic activity and can be used repeatedly for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol under the cooperation of Fe and Au electrons. In addition, the kinetics and mechanism of catalytic reduction was discussed in detail. Multi functional materials constructed by MOFs and COFs provide a basis for the application and expansion of new porous materials. Fabrication of Homogeneous Non-Noble Metal Nanoparticles within Metal–Organic Framework Nanosheets for Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol

Abstract:Compared with noble metal nanoparticles (MNPs), non-noble MNPs possess obvious advantages owing to their abundant reserves on the earth and low cost. Therefore, the synthesis of small and highly active non-noble MNPs is desirable in practice. With the merits of metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets, we develop a novel and facile in situ reduction strategy for the incorporating of ultrasmall and homogeneous Ni NPs within NMOF-Ni, where the self Ni(II) metal ion nodes are partly reduced to metallic Ni(0) atoms by the reducing agent of aqueous NaBH4 under ambient conditions. The as-synthesized Ni/NMOF-Ni-0.4 behaves as an ideal catalyst for the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol, with high efficiency and selectivity as well as good recyclability, arising from the ultrasmall and monodisperse Ni NPs, as well as 2D MOF nanosheet carriers. Strikingly, the straightforward strategy has been successfully applicable to fabricating Co/NMOF-Co-0.4, illustrating that the in situ reduction method might be facile and effective for producing MNPs/MOFs. Multifunctional Au-Fe3O4@MOF Core-Shell Nanocomposite Catalysts with Controllable Reactivity and Magnetic Recyclability.

Abstract:The recovery and reuse of expensive catalysts are important in both heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis due to economic and environmental reasons. This work reports a novel multifunctional magnetic core-shell gold catalyst which can be easily prepared and shows remarkable catalytic properties in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. The novel Au-Fe3O4@metal-organic framework (MOF) catalyst consists of a superparamagnetic Au-Fe3O4 core and a porous MOF shell with controllable thickness. Small Au nanoparticles (NPs) of 3-5 nm are mainly sandwiched between the Fe3O4 core and the porous MOF shell. Catalytic studies show that the core-shell structured Au-Fe3O4@MOF catalyst has a much higher catalytic activity than other reported Au-based catalysts toward the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Moreover, this catalyst can be easily recycled due to the presence of the superparamagnetic core. Therefore, compared to conventional catalysts used in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, this porous MOF-based magnetic catalyst is green, cheap and promising for industrial applications.
CeO2 Nanowires Self-Inserted into Porous Co3O4 Frameworks As High-Performance “noble Metal Free” Hetero-Catalysts

Abstract:Recently, mixed metal oxides have attracted tremendous interest because of their great importance for fundamental studies and practical applications in the catalytic field to replace expensive noble metals. Herein, we report the designed synthesis of novel CeO2-Co3O4 mixed metal oxides with complex nanostructures using uniform short CeO2 nanowires self-inserted into ZIF-67 nanocrystals as precursors followed by a thermal annealing treatment. Interestingly, such a synthetic strategy can be easily extended to fabricate other CeO2 nanowires inserted into metal oxide nanoframeworks such as NiCo2O4 and ZnCo2O4. Choosing the NO reduction reaction by CO as the catalytic model, the as-obtained CeO2-Co3O4 hybrids exhibited enhanced catalytic performance, which could be attributed to the strong two-phase interaction between each component.
Metal‐Free Catalytic Reduction of 4‐nitrophenol by MOFs‐Derived N‐Doped Carbon

Abstract:With the development of Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) materials, various functional carbon materials prepared using MOFs as precursors have attracted more and more attention. In this work, the N-doped carbon nanomaterial N-C have been synthesized by annealing of ZIF-8. In the reduction of p-nitrophenol which is one of the most prevalent organic pollutants, N-C shows good activity, great stability, reusability and minimal pollution compared with some of the previously metallic catalysts. The N-C prepared by annealing at different temperatures owns different nitrogen contents and different catalytic activity. It was found that N-C-800 (annealed at 800 degrees C) shows the highest pyridine N content and the best catalytic activity, and the reaction follows the pseudo-zero-order kinetics.

Abstract:A novel material of hollow porous NiO@CeO2 octahedron (HPOC) derived-from cerium-based metal-organic frameworks (MOF) was prepared as a high-performance catalyst for N2O decomposition. Octahedron-shaped cerium-based MOF was successfully synthesized with formic acid as a structure-modulating agent by rational controlling the volume ratio of N,N-dimethylformamide and formic acid at 4:1. The obtained NiO@CeO2-HPOC was systematically characterized to reveal its morphology, structure and surface properties. TEM, SEM and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms results confirm the well-defined octahedral morphology and hollow porous structures of NiO@CeO2-HPOC. EDS mapping and XRD studies indicate that NiO@CeO2-HPOC hybrid composite exhibits relatively homogeneous Ni dispersion and small NiO size, which comes from the unique coordination bond and porosity of cerium-based MOF precursor. H-2-TPR analysis shows that uniform nickel distribution enables the highly dispersed NiO species in NiO@CeO2-HPOC. Furthermore, Raman and XPS results indicate that NiO@CeO2-HPOC possesses large amount of oxygen vacancies. The hollow porous structures, homogeneous Ni dispersion, as well as large amount of oxygen vacancies facilitate the catalytic efficiency. As a result, NiO@CeO2-HPOC exhibits a high catalytic activity and enhanced O-2 tolerance for N2O decomposition.

Abstract:Hollow MOFs nanoreactors with controlled shape, size, pore volume, and shell thickness have been considered as emerging materials for a variety of applications. Selecting environmentally friendly and cheap colloidal carbon (CNs) as the template, bimetallic hollow Ce/Zr-UiO-66 nanoreactors were synthesized. The PXRD, TEM, EDS and other characterization analysis proved that hollow structure was formed, accompanied with incorporating of Ce(III) in UiO-66 and the crystal morphology was good. Furthermore, bimetallic hollow Ce/Zr-UiO-66 was studied as a catalyst to catalyze the conversion of furfural (FF) to furfuryl alcohol (FAL) without exogenous hydrogen. The results showed that the hollow structure and bimetallic UiO-66 was beneficial to the catalytic reaction by modulating the ratio of Ce(III) and Zr(IV). Among then, the 1:4 ratio of Ce(III) and Zr(IV) displayed good catalytic activity, the conversion rate of FF was 95% and selectivity of FAL was 94%. This study opens a new avenue for further rational design and construction of well-performing MOFs nanoreactors.

Highly Efficient Au Nanocatalysts for Heterogeneous Continuous Flow Reactions Using Hollow CeO2 Microspheres As a Functional Skeleton

Abstract:Hollow Au/CeO2 as a highly efficient and stable heterogeneous catalyst is successfully used for a continuous-flow reaction. The hollow CeO2 microspheres with thicknesses of 21 nm as functional supports can greatly improve the catalytic activity and stability of the Au nanoparticles. The catalytic activity of hollow Au/CeO2 catalysts is 4.5 times higher than the Au catalysts without the hollow structure under the same reaction conditions for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Meanwhile, the hollow structure also accelerates the mass transfer of reactant for the continuous-flow system. A high turnover number of 65.7 mol h–1 molAu–1 is yielded for hollow Au/CeO2 catalysts at a flow rate of 250 mL h–1 with remarkable stability for a continuous-flow 4-nitrophenol reduction reaction. The present continuous-flow system exhibits a huge potential for the automation treatment of pollutant 4-nitrophenol.
Nano-Cellulose/MOF Derived Carbon Doped CuO/Fe3O4 Nanocomposite as High Efficient Catalyst for Organic Pollutant Remedy

Abstract:Metal–organic framework (MOF)-based derivatives are attracting increased interest in various research fields. In this study, nano-cellulose MOF-derived carbon-doped CuO/Fe3O4 nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via direct calcination of magnetic Cu-BTC MOF (HKUST-1)/Fe3O4/cellulose microfibril (CMF) composites in air. The morphology, structure, and porous properties of carbon-doped CuO/Fe3O4 nanocomposites were characterized using SEM, TEM, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The results show that the as-prepared nanocomposite catalyst is composed of Fe3O4, CuO, and carbon. Compared to the CuO/Fe3O4 catalyst from HKUST-1/Fe3O4 composite and CuO from HKUST-1, this carbon-doped CuO/Fe3O4 nanocomposite catalyst shows better catalytic efficiency in reduction reactions of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), methylene blue (MB), and methyl orange (MO) in the presence of NaBH4. The enhanced catalytic performance of carbon-doped CuO/Fe3O4 is attributed to effects of carbon preventing the aggregation of CuO/Fe3O4 and providing high surface-to-volume ratio and chemical stability. Moreover, this nanocomposite catalyst is readily recoverable using an external magnet due to its superparamagnetic behavior. The recyclability/reuse of carbon-doped CuO/Fe3O4 was also investigated.

Abstract:In this work, we report the synthesis of Au nanoparticles encaged in hollow porous silica nanospheres (Au@HPSNs), which features extremely small Au nanoclusters (-1.3 nm) encapsulated in high specific surface area (-800 m2/g) HPSNs. We used the electrostatic attraction between the anions of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and protonated poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) to build the micelles system in an ethanol-water system, which was employed as the templates for deposition of silica to give the core-shell structured PEI-PAA@SiO2. The final materials Au@HPSNs were obtained by soaking PEI-PAA@SiO2 in HAuCl4 solution and subsequent calcination. The Au@HPSNs show extremely high catalytic efficiency for 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction with NaBH4, and exhibit the highest heterogeneous Au-based catalytic efficiency up to date for 4-NP reduction. The greatly enhanced performance of Au@HPSNs could be ascribed to ultra-fine Au nanoclusters and the small mass transfer hindrance with high specific surface area hollow porous silica.
