Abstract:A novel three-component cascade radical reaction involving non-activated olefins,quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones,and AgSCF3 was proposed.Under the action of the oxidizing agent K2S2O8,40 quinoxaline derivatives containing SCF3 were obtained with the highest yield of 78％.This method provides a mild and environmentally friendly approach to prepare trifluoromethylthio-substituted quinoxalines,offering advantages such as high yield,broad substrate scope,atom economy,and environmental efficiency.

Abstract:A mild, efficient, and environmentally benign one-pot synthesis of functionalized chromeno[4,3-b]pyrrol-4(1H)-ones by a three-component domino reaction of 4-aminocoumarins, arylglyoxal monohydrates, and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds in refluxing ethanol without the use of catalyst is reported. Abstract:The copper-catalyzed sulfenylation of indoles with aryl iodide and sulfur powder has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. This protocol provides a direct and facile approach to prepare 3-sulfenylindoles with moderate to excellent yields and good functional-group tolerance. The in-situ IR analysis provided evidence for that NaOAc could promote the synthesis of diphenyl disulfide by the coupling of aryl iodide and sulfur powder. According to DFT calculations, the coupling pathway involving the intermediate N-methyl-3-iodoindole is more favored than the direct coupling by the CH activation of indole. The N-methyl-3-iodoindole was identified as a crucial intermediate in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A four-component reaction of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, sulfur dioxide, 1,2-dibromoethane, and hydrazines under metal-free conditions is described, providing a novel and efficient approach to 2-arylsulfonyl hydrazones. Abstract:Novel divergent domino annulation reactions of sulfur ylides with aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates have been developed, affording various tetra- and trisubstituted pyrazole derivatives in moderate to good yields. Three molecules of sulfur ylides were applied as C1 synthon to construct the complex products with five new chemical bonds formed in these one-pot reactions.

Abstract:A four-component reaction of 2-vinylbenzoic acids, aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, the sulfur dioxide surrogate DABCO(SO2)(2), and nitriles under photocatalysis in the presence of visible light is developed. This multicomponent reaction works efficiently, promoted by BF3OEt2 with the insertion of sulfur dioxide under mild conditions, leading to sulfonated 1-isoindolinones in moderate to good yields. This route is highly selective, and several competitive pathways are not observed under these conditions. A possible mechanism involving photocatalysis and a Lewis acid is proposed.

Abstract:Diverse allylic sulfones are generated through a three-component reaction of potassium alkyltrifluoroborates, sulfur dioxide and allylic bromides in the presence of 9-mesityl-10-methyl acridinium perchlorate under visible light irradiation at room temperature. This transformation proceeds efficiently, and a broad reaction scope is demonstrated with good functional groups tolerance. This reaction is initiated by the treatment of potassium alkyltrifluoroborate under visible-light irradiation in the presence of a photocatalyst, leading to alkyl radical. This alkyl radical intermediate is trapped by sulfur dioxide to provide alkylsulfonyl radical, which then undergoes further transformation to afford the corresponding allylic sulfone.

Abstract:A photoinduced synthesis of S-aryl thiosulfonates through a three-component reaction of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, sodium metabisulfite, and thiourea is achieved. The reaction scope generality with a range of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates is demonstrated. In this transformation, a radical coupling pathway is proposed with the insertion of sulfur dioxide in the presence of a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. The organic sulfur motifs in S-aryl thiosulfonates originate from the convenient, cheap, and easily available thiourea and sodium metabisulfite.

Abstract:A three‐component alkylsulfonylation/cyclization/ hydrolysis relay reaction of 1‐acryloyl‐2‐cyanoindoles with 4‐alkyl Hantzsch esters and Na2S2O5 to access a series of alkylsulfonyl pyrrolo[1,2‐a]indolediones derivatives involving in situ sulfur dioxide insertion is established. With this method, a variety of primary and secondary alkyl radicals can be used for trapping sulfur dioxide and in situ formed corresponding alkylsulfonyl radical intermediates, followed by alkyl sulfonyl radical addition, cyclization and hydrolysis. In addition, this reaction goes through once selective cleavage of σ carbon‐carbon bond and following successively formation of three new chemical bonds, in which cyano group acts as the dual roles, including the radical acceptor and carbonyl source.

Abstract:We present herein a new mode of three-component reactions between isocyanoacetates, amines and 3-formylchromones. Both experimental and DFT studies revealed that this Ag-catalyzed unusual transformation is initiated by a facile aza-Michael addition instead of the conventional imine condensation. This catalytic method enables an efficient synthesis of polysubstituted pyrroles.

Abstract:Sulfonylative C-H bond functionalization through a copper-catalyzed three-component reaction of 8-aminoquinoline amides, DABCO center dot(SO2)(2) and aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates is developed. Excellent selectivity in the para-position is observed for this copper-catalyzed transformation. This reaction is triggered by a copper-chelated complex via the coordination of the copper catalyst with the substrate and arylsulfonyl radical generated in situ, thus providing 5-sulfonyl-8-aminoquinoline amides in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Direct vicinal difunctionalization of alkynes through a catalyst-free four-component reaction of Togni's reagent, alkynes, sulfur dioxide, and hydrazines at room temperature is developed, which generates (E)-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-ene-1-sulfonohydrazides in good yields. This one-pot transformation works efficiently under extremely mild conditions without any catalysts and additives. The reaction process proceeds through trifluoromethylation of alkynes and aminosulfonylation via insertion of sulfur dioxide with excellent stereoselectivity and regioselectivity. Additionally, this reaction shows a broad substrate scope with good functional group tolerance. A plausible mechanism is proposed, supported by DFT calculations.

Abstract:A three-component reaction of cyclobutanone oxime esters, DABCO·(SO2)2 and N-alkyl-N-methacryloyl benzamides is described. This reaction proceeds without the addition of any oxidant or transition metal, affording sulfonyl-containing isoquinoline-1,3-(2H,4H)-diones in moderate to good yields. Various functional groups are tolerated well in this transformation. Mechanistic studies suggest that a radical pathway is involved, including β-scission, sulfur dioxide insertion, and intramolecular cyclization processes.
