Abstract:Fe2O3 is a candidate material for anodes in Li-ion batteries due to its high theoretical capacity. However, the practical application of Fe2O3 is still limited by its sluggish conversion reactions. In this work, porous Fe2O3 films with homogeneously dispersed Ag nanoparticles are fabricated using a facile one- step electrostatic spray deposition technique. Both the unique, highly porous structure and the conducting Ag metal contribute to the outstanding electrochemical performance of the anode. The Fe2O3-Ag composite anode retains stable capacities of 1042 (0.1 C), 961 (1 C) and 857 mAhg(-1) (5 C) over 100 cycles. When cycled at even higher rates, competitive capacities of 555 (15 C) and 509 mAhg(-1) (20 C) are still acquired. This work might present opportunities to develop an oxide-metal anode with high capacity, long cycling life and good rate capability for Li-ion batteries.

Abstract:Fe3O4/graphene composites with a conductive, porous three-dimensional (3D) graphene network were synthesized through a facile method. In the preparation process, Fe(OH)3 colloid was formed in situ by adding FeCl3 solution to a boiling graphene oxide (GO) suspension, with Fe(OH)3/GO precipitated because of the electrostatic interaction between the two components. The precipitate was separated and added to a second GO suspension to achieve additional GO encapsulation. This self-assembled Fe(OH)3/GO precursor was then hydrothermally and heat treated, resulting in the formation of Fe3O4/graphene composites. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and Raman spectroscopy results revealed that the Fe3O4/graphene composites possess a favorable 3D porous graphene network embedding 50- to 100-nm-sized Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The Fe3O4/graphene composites exhibit good electrochemical performance as an anode material for Li-ion batteries. The electrode composed of the Fe3O4/graphene composite delivered a capacity of 1390 mAh∙g - 1 for the first lithiation and retained a capacity of 819 mAh∙g - 1 after 50 cycles. The electrodes also exhibited good rate capability. The present results demonstrate that the electrochemical performance of the Fe3O4/graphene composite is highly sensitive to its preparation procedure and to the resulting nanostructure. Each of the four preparation procedures was experimentally shown to be important for achieving the final nanostructure and good electrochemical performance. A formation mechanism for the Fe3O4/graphene composite is also proposed.

Abstract:A ternary composite of Fe3O4/SnO2/rGO has been synthesized via a facile one-step hydrothermal method. In the composite, rGO serves as a conductive and robust matrix, Fe3O4 and SnO2 nanoparticles are uniformly loaded on the rGO nanosheets without aggregation, due to the space-confine effect of the simultaneous nucleation and growth of Fe3O4 and SnO2 nanocrystallites. As an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, the Fe3O4/SnO2/rGO nanocomposite exhibited a reversible capacity of 947 mAh g(-1) at a current density of 200 mA g(-1) in the first cycle, and maintained 831 mAh g(-1) after 200 cycles. The cyclic performance and rate capability of the Fe3O4/SnO2/rGO are markedly improved compared with the binary counterparts of FeOx/rGO and SnOx/rGO obtained in the control experiment, as a result of enhanced structural stability and kinetics for charge and Li+ transfer due to the synergetic effect in the ternary composite. Abstract:Reduced graphite oxide (rGO)-magnetite (Fe3O4) composites, promising anode materials for lithium ion batteries, have aroused extensive interest. However, the effects of reducing agents of graphite oxide (GO) on the detailed morphology of the composite were rarely reported. Herein, reducing agents of GO, sodium ascorbate and hydrazine hydrate were selected, and sodium ascorbate was able to control the uniform distribution of Fe3O4 on rGO sheets, resulting in stable cycling performance of above 500mA h g(-1) after 100 cycles and high capacity of above 1200mAh g(-1) in the first dnischarge/charge process. While in the composite reduced by hydrazine hydrate, severe aggregation of Fe3O4 particles and their weak bonding to rGO sheets depleted the buffer effect of rGO, resulting in continuously fading of cycling performance. This work provided a convenient and an effective way of morphology control of rGO-Fe3O4 composite during its one-pot formation.

Abstract:In this work, a composite material consisting of ultrafine Fe3O4 with (ca. 15 nm) uniformly anchored in reduced graphene oxides (rGO) is synthesized and reported to be applied in anodes for lithium-ion battery. The obtained hollow Fe3O4/rGO composites (H-Fe3O4/rGO) (827.3 mA h g−1) has much superior specific capacity than that of the solid Fe3O4/rGO composites (S-Fe3O4/rGO) (654.9 mA h g−1) after 550 cycles of the coin cell at 0.5 A g−1. Even if the cells are tested at 1 A g−1, H-Fe3O4/rGO displays a remarkable specific capacity of 917.4 mA h g−1 as well as the capacity retention rate of 56.7%, compared with S-Fe3O4/rGO (573.9 mA h g−1, the capacity retention rate of 37.7%). Such a sufficient cyclic stability and rate capability in the H-Fe3O4/rGO composite is mainly attributed to the ultrafine hollow structure for shortening Li+ diffusion path and conductive rGO beneficial to rapid electron transfer.

Abstract:In this work, we present a facile and scalable method to prepare Co3O4/RGO nanoparticles with superior microstructure by solvothermal and subsequent calcination. The Co3O4/RGO nanoparticles obtained at 550 °C demonstrated a high reversible capacity of 1191.9 mAh g−1 with capacity retention ratios of 98.9 % after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g−1. The facile synthesis method of Co3O4/RGO nanoparticles would offer possibilities for the development of high‐performance anode material for LIBs. A potential anode material for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), Co3O4 has been widely considered by many scholars because of its excellent properties in terms of electrochemical characteristics and theoretical specific capacity. However, according to the existing research results, we found that the improvement of the electrochemical performance of Co3O4 has encountered a bottleneck because its intrinsic conductivity is not high enough, and more importantly, the volume expansion is too significant during the charge and discharge process, which leads to the material structure breaking. Therefore, this paper proposes a simple and scalable solvothermal and subsequent calcination method to prepare Co3O4 and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite nanoparticles with superior microstructures, and their morphological and electrochemical properties were investigated at different calcination temperatures. As a high‐performance anode material for lithium‐ion batteries, the Co3O4/RGO nanoparticles obtained at 550 °C exhibited terrific initial discharge capacity of 1714.2 mAh g−1, the reversible specific capacity of 1191.9 mAh g−1 with quality coulombic efficiency 98.17 % at 0.5 A g−1 after 100 cycles and extraordinary rate performance (907.6 mAh g−1 with a coulombic efficiency of 99.2 % at 2 A g−1). The facile synthesis method and excellent findings have led to better application prospects for Co3O4/RGO nanoparticles.

Abstract:Recently, the application of LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries in electric vehicles has attracted extensive attention from researchers. This work presents a composite of LFP particles trapped in reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets obtained through the high-temperature reduction strategy. The obtained LiFePO4/rGO composites indicate spherical morphology and uniform particles. As to the structure mode of the composite, LFP distributes in the interlayer structure of rGO, and the rGO evenly covers the surface of the particles. The LFP/rGO cathodes demonstrate a reversible specific capacity of 165 mA h g−1 and high coulombic efficiency at 0.2 C, excellent rate capacity (up to 10 C), outstanding long-term cycling stability (98%) after 1000 cycles at 5 C. The combined high electron conductivity of the layered rGO coating and uniform LFP particles contribute to the remarkable electrochemical performance of the LFP/rGO composite. The unique LFP/rGO cathode provides a potential application in high-power lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:Fe2O3 has been widely investigated as an anode material for its high theoretical capacity and natural abundance, but the low conductivity, large volume variation, and slow kinetics seriously hinder its commercialization. Here, we propose the in situ growth of ultra-fine Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) NPs on the 3D rGO aerogel with abundant pores by a facile freeze-drying process followed by thermal annealing, which is confirmed by X-ray diffraction and high-resolution-tunneling electron microscopy. This novel 3D porous structure ensures fast electron and ion diffusion within the electrode, which effectively mitigates the volume expansion of Fe2O3 during cycling. Benefiting from these advantages, an excellent cycling performance of 668 mAh g-1 at 0.5 A g-1 over 100 cycles as well as outstanding rate performance are achieved. These results provide a promising approach of advanced anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:We synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticle/reduced graphene oxide (RGO-Fe3O4) nanocomposites and evaluated their performance as anodes in both half and full coin cells. The nanocomposites were synthesized through a chemical co-precipitation of Fe2+ and Fe3+ in the presence of graphene oxides within an alkaline solution and a subsequent high-temperature reduction reaction in argon (Ar) environment. The morphology and microstructures of the fabricated RGO-Fe3O4 nanocomposites were characterized using various techniques. The results indicated that the Fe3O4 nanoparticles had relatively homogeneous dispersions on the RGO sheet surfaces. These as-synthesized RGO-Fe3O4 nanocomposites were used as anodes for both half and full lithium-ion cells. Electrochemical measurement results exhibit a high reversible capacity which is about two and a half times higher than that of graphite-based anodes at a 0.05C rate, and an enhanced reversible capacity of about 200 mAh g(-1) even at a high charge/discharge rate of 10C (9260 mA g(-1)) in half cells. Most important of all, these fabricated novel nanostructures also show exceptional capacity retention with the assembled RGO-Fe3O4/LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2 full cell at different C rates. This outstanding electrochemical behavior can be attributed to the unique microstructure, morphology, texture, surface properties of the nanocomposites, and combinative effects from the different chemical composition in the nanocomposites.
Construction of Sandwich‐Like R‐fe3o4/rgo@cn Anode Materials As Conductive Agent‐Free Anode for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

Abstract:Fe3O4 is a prospective anode material but faces challenges to develop high-performance electrodes for lithium-ion battery. In this paper, Fe3O4 nanorods wrapped with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as the conducting matrix and an amorphous nitrogen-doped carbon (CN) as the protective coating were prepared using the hydrothermal method and freeze-drying process. The obtained Fe3O4 nanorods are uniformly dispersed on the rGO nanosheet. The addition of rGO improves the electrical conductivity of the composite, while the amorphous carbon layer mitigates the volume expansion effect of Fe3O4 nanorods. Moreover, the in-situ nitrogen doping accelerates the wetting effect of the electrolyte as well as reduces the diffusion and transfer resistance. Therefore, the obtained r-Fe3O4/rGO@CN composite as conductive agent-free anode exhibits outstanding performance and cycling stability at suitable nitrogen-doped carbon coverage. The capacity could be maintained at 1020.7 mA h g(-1) after 100 cycles at a current density of 0.5 A g(-1). In addition, the capacity fading rate of per cycle is only 0.08% at a high current density of 2 A g(-1). Our findings suggest that the prepared r-Fe3O4/rGO@CN composite is a prospective candidate for utilization as an anode material in lithium-ion batteries.
Simple and effective synthesis of zinc ferrite nanoparticle immobilized by reduced graphene oxide as anode for lithium-ion batteries

Abstract:In this work, a simple and effective method is developed to synthesize zinc ferrite nanoparticles (ZnFe2O4) in a redox coprecipitation reaction system containing only ferrous and zinc salt followed by a solid-state reaction. On this foundation, ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles with reduced size are further immobilized by reduced graphene oxide (RGO) to engineer a ZnFe2O4/RGO composite by simply introducing graphene oxide (GO) in the above reaction system. The ZnFe2O4/RGO composite electrode exhibits attractive lithium-ion storage capability with a reversible capacity of about 760 mAh·g-1 for 200 charge/discharge cycles and 603 mAh·g-1 for 700 cycles under a current rate of 1.0 A·g-1. The robust and porous RGO supporting framework, well immobilized ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles with controlled size and pseudocapacitive behavior of the composite jointly ensure the good battery performance. Moreover, the synthetic route for ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles and ZnFe2O4/RGO composite is simple and economic, which may be further developed for massive production and applied in other fields.

Abstract:Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) not only shows distinctive electrochemical properties desirable for battery performance but also presents functionalities that enable the production of free-standing electrodes and allow further functionalization to form composites. When combined with Fe3O4 which possesses a high theoretical capacity, Fe3O4/rGO composites demonstrate enhanced battery performance compared to their individual form. Despite numerous efforts invested in developing high-performance Fe3O4/rGO Li-ion battery anodes, fundamental questions regarding structure-dependent lithium storage behaviour have been lacking experimental support in detail. In this work, we report the synthesis of free-standing Fe3O4/rGO that is highly porous with tunable features to increase the availability of electroactive sites, channels for ion passage, and space for Li accommodation, thus enhancing Li storage capacity and prolonging cycle life. As-prepared Fe3O4/rGO electrodes deliver a high reversible capacity of 1224 mAh g−1 at 100 mA g−1 and a retention rate of 82.8% after 1000 cycles at 1 A g−1. These Fe3O4/rGO composites with desirable features, hence, hold promise in applications as anodes in high-power lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:The fine shape control of metal oxides nanocrystal and component are the key for the preparation of high-performance metal oxides/graphene nanocomposites. Herein, a simpler and practicable in situ one-pot approach was used to synthetize α-Fe2O3@reduced graphene oxide (rGO) core–shell nanocomposites. By controlling the amount of hydrazine hydrate and GO in reaction system, the shape of α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals can be tailored from spindle gradually to ellipsoid and quasi-sphere, and the thickness of enwrapped rGO can also be finely controlled. The as-prepared α-Fe2O3@rGO core–shell composites showed much better lithium storage performance than bare α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals. Owing to the core–shell structure and the high conductivity and stability of rGO nanosheet, the quasi-sphere-α-Fe2O3@rGO composites delivered a high reversible specific capacity up to 971 mAh g−1 at the current density of 0.2 A g−1, retaining 530 mA h g−1 at 2 A g−1 and 361 mA h g−1 at 5 A g−1 after 800 cycles with only 0.05% decay per-cycle. Moreover, the facile approach can provide a new strategy for the fabrication of other shape-size dependent, functional, and multicomponent graphene-based composites.

Abstract:Rapidly increasing demand for electronic devices and electric vehicles necessitates efficient and high power and energy density storage devices. In this context, we synthesized and optimized reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO) nanosheets intercalated with Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles using an in situ method for supercapacitor and Lithium-ion battery performance. The synthesized materials were well characterized using FESEM, XRD, TGA, and RAMAN spectroscopy. The optimized 25-wt% Fe 3 O 4 @rGO nanocomposite in the form of asymmetric supercapacitor exhibits a high specific capacitance of 310 F/g at 10 A/g and evaluated an energy density of 39.375 Wh/Kg and power density of 1041.6 W/Kg, respectively. The same Fe 3 O 4 @rGO material, in the form of symmetric capacitor, shows the 19 F/g at a current density 10 A/g using a 3-M KOH as electrolytic solution with an energy density of 0.95 KWh/Kg at power density of 403 W/Kg for planar supercapacitor devices. Furthermore, the optimized Fe 3 O 4 @rGO, evaluated for lithium-ion battery (LIB) anode performance, shows a high specific capacity of 290 mAh/g at 0.5 A/g and 212 mAh/g at 1 A/g current densities while maintaining stability over 500 cycles. The incorporation of Fe 3 O 4 in rGO nanosheets results in the enhancement of the storage performance synergistically. The influence of Fe 3 O 4 on the surfaces of rGO as interfaces contributes to faradaic capacitive reaction and rGO for non-faradaic electric double-layer capacitive through electronic/ionic transport for the electrochemical behavior of the nanocomposite. Overall, the highly efficient and low-cost Fe 3 O 4 @rGO nanocomposite show superior capacitance and LIB anode performances are the key findings which can be potential electrodes in supercapacitor-battery hybrid storage devices for both high energy density and high power density.

Herein, we design and prepare a Fe2O3/MoS2/rGO composite in which the unique three-dimensional heterostructure effectively alleviates the volumetric change during charge/discharge processes and enhances the electronic conductivity of an active material, thus improving the reversible capacity of a battery. Under a low current density (200 mA g–1), Fe2O3/MoS2/rGO delivers a high discharge capacity of 906 mAh g–1 after 100 cycles. Even at a high current density (1000 mA g–1), the discharge capacity reaches 711 mAh g–1 after 500 cycles. In addition, Fe2O3/MoS2/rGO has also a good rate performance (608 mAh g–1 at 1500 mA g–1). Abstract:Nanocomposites of Fe2O3 nanospindles with crumpled reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanosheets were prepared using a facile solvothermal synthesis method. The RGO-Fe2O3 nanocomposite with about 24.4 wt% RGO demonstrated an excellent electrochemical performance as a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which achieved a high reversible capacity of 969 mA h g(-1) after 100 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g(-1) (0.1 C). Furthermore, it also exhibited a large capacity of 336 mA h g(-1) after 100 cycles at the high rate of 5 C. The cycling performance and reversible capacities of the RGO-Fe2O3 composites were much better than those of bare Fe2O3 nanospindles and pure RGO nanosheets, as well as previously reported RGO-Fe2O3 nanocomposites. The enhanced performance towards lithium storage can be ascribed to the crumpled RGO nanosheets, which may act as efficient volume buffer and electron conductor in the composites. The strategy proposed here could be extended to produce other nanocomposites based on crumpled graphene nanosheets for various applications.
Synthesis of a zinc ferrite effectively encapsulated by reduced graphene oxide composite anode material for high-rate lithium ion storage

Abstract:Effectively immobilizing nano-sized electrochemical active materials with a 3D porous framework constituted by conductive graphene sheets brings in enhanced lithium ion storage properties. Herein, a reduced graphene oxide (RGO) supported zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) composite anode material (ZnFe2O4/RGO) is fabricated by a simple and effective method. Firstly, redox reaction takes place between the oxygen-containing functional groups on few-layered graphene oxide (GO) sheets and controlled quantity of metallic Zn atoms. ZnO nanoparticles are in-situ nucleated and directly grow on GO sheets. Secondly, the GO sheets are completely reduced by abundant Fe atoms, and corresponding γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles are formed neighboring the ZnO nanoparticles. In this step, 3D porous RGO supporting framework are constructed with γ-Fe2O3@ZnO nanoparticles effectively encapsulated between the RGO layers. Finally, the well-designed γ-Fe2O3@ZnO/RGO intermediate product undergoes a thermal treatment to allow a solid-state reaction and obtains the ZnFe2O4/RGO composite. At a high current rate of 1.0 A·g−1, the ZnFe2O4/RGO composite exhibits an inspiring reversible capacity of 1022 mAh·g−1 for 500 consecutive cycles as anode material for lithium ion batteries. And the insight into the attractive lithium storage performance has been studied in this work.

Abstract:Background: CuFe2O4 nanoparticles possess good electrochemical properties apart from their inadequate electronic conductivity and large volume variation. The resulting performance lag can be modified by the addition of conductive materials to form a composite. Hence, the properties of CuFe2O4/rGO nanohybrid are presented for application as anode material for lithium-ion batteries. Methods: The composites are synthesized through a facile one-step method of thermochemical reaction. The samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Dielectric behavior and Galvanostatic charge-discharge test. Result & Conclusion: The XRD analysis confirmed the reduction of GO and formation of CuFe 2 O 4 /rGO composite, whereas FTIR results showed two major vibrational bands that correspond to spinel structure formation and attachment of rGO to CuFe 2 O 4 . The SEM images confirmed tethering of CuFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles with rGO sheets. It was also observed that the formation of the nanohybrid of CuFe 2 O 4 with rGO resulted in expected enhancement of the dielectric properties; dielectric constant and AC conductivity. At 100 Hz frequency, the dielectric constant of the composite with 15 wt. % of GO was 1.27×10 5 , which is higher than that of pure CuFe 2 O 4 (3.57×10 4 ). The parameters such as charge storage capacity and rate capability, which are reminiscent of battery performance were also enhanced with the increase of rGO content in the composite. Hence, a substantial enhancement of battery performance was depicted that projects the composite as a promising candidate for applications in electrode material for lithium-ion batteries.
