Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this short note, we prove that a complex Finsler vector bundle with positive Kobayashi curvature must be ample, which partially solves a problem of S. Kobayashi posed in 1975. As applications, a strongly pseudoconvex complex Finsler manifold with positive Kobayashi curvature must be biholomorphic to the complex projective space; we also show that all Schur polynomials are numerically positive for complex Finsler vector bundles with positive Kobayashi curvature.

Abstract:To study the prescribed $k$ -curvature problem of 2nd-order symmetric curvature tensors on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, we consider a class of fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. It is proved that on a Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature and Ricci curvature bounded from below, the equation is solvable provided that all the eigenvalues of the tensor are negative. The result is applicable to the prescribed $k$ -curvature problems of modified Schouten tensor and Bakry–Émery Ricci tensor.
Rational curves on Hermitian manifolds

Abstract: By using analytic method, we prove that there exist rational curves on compact Hermitian manifolds with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. It confirms a question of S.-T. Yau. It is well-known that Mori proved in \cite{Mori79} that every compact complex manifold $N$ with $c_1(N)>0$ contains at least one rational curve. However, as a borderline example, we show that the standard Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ has a Hermitian metric with non-negative holomorphic bisectional curvature (in particular, $c_1(S^1\times S^3)\geq 0$), but it contains no rational curve.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional complete Kähler manifolds with everywhere nonnegative or everywhere nonpositive bisectional curvature. In this article, we address the question of when the universal covering space M̃ of M is holomorphically isometric to Cn−r × N, where N is a Kähler manifold whose Ricci tensor is nondegenerate somewhere. It is now known that such is the case if M covers a compact Kähler manifold, its bisectional curvature is everywhere nonpositive, and the metric is real analytic. We prove in this article that, still with the real analytic assumption on the metric, such a splitting also takes place if the bisectional curvature of M is everywhere nonnegative but is positive

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a "pseudo-effective" version of the holonomy principle for compact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that if a compact complex manifold $M$ admits a Kähler metric $\omega$ with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature and $(M,\omega)$ has no nonzero truly flat tangent vector at some point (which is satisfied when the holomorphic sectional curvature is quasi-positive), then $M$ must be projective and rationally connected. This answers a problem raised by Matsumura and Yang and extends Yau's conjecture. We also prove that a compact simply connected Kähler manifold with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature is projective and rationally connected. Additionally, we classify non-projective Kähler 3-dimensional manifolds with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature. Furthermore, we show that a compact Kähler manifold admits a Hermitian metric with positive real bisectional curvature is a projective and rationally connected manifold.

Abstract:In this paper we study the class of compact Kahler manifolds with Ric(perpendicular to) > 0. First we illustrate examples of Kahler manifolds with Ric(perpendicular to) > 0 on Kahler C-spaces, and construct ones on certain projectivized vector bundles. These examples show the abundance of Kahler manifolds which admit metrics of Ric(perpendicular to) > 0. Secondly we prove some (algebraic) geometric consequences of the condition Ric(perpendicular to) > 0 to illustrate that the condition is also quite restrictive. Finally this last point is made evident with a classification result in dimension three and a partial classification in dimension four.

Abstract:In this work, we investigate compact Kähler manifolds with non-negative or quasi-positive mixed curvature coming from a linear combination of the Ricci and holomorphic sectional curvature, which covers various notions of curvature considered in the literature. Specifically, we prove a splitting theorem, analogous to the Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem, for complete Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature containing a line, and then establish a structure theorem for compact Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature. We also show that the Hodge numbers of compact Kähler manifolds with quasi-positive mixed curvature must vanish. Both results are based on the conformal perturbation method.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that any compact Kähler manifold homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature admits a Kähler–Einstein metric of general type. Moreover, we prove that, on a compact symplectic manifold X homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature, for any almost complex structure J compatible with the symplectic form, there is no non-constant J-holomorphic entire curve $f:{\mathbb C \,}\rightarrow X$.

Abstract:In this article we continue the study of the two curvature notions for Kähler manifolds introduced by the first named author earlier: the so-called cross quadratic bisectional curvature (CQB) and its dual (^dCQB). We first show that compact Kähler manifolds with CQB_1>0 or ^dCQB_1>0 are Fano, while nonnegative CQB_1 or ^dCQB_1 leads to a Fano manifold as well, provided that the universal cover does not contain a flat de Rham factor. For the latter statement we employ the Kähler-Ricci flow to deform the metric. We conjecture that all Kähler C-spaces will have nonnegative CQB and positive ^dCQB. By giving irreducible such examples with arbitrarily large second Betti numbers we show that the positivity of these two curvature put no restriction on the Betti number. A strengthened conjecture is that any Kähler C-space will actually have positive CQB unless it is a ℙ^1 bundle. Finally we give an example of non-symmetric, irreducible Kähler C-space with b_2>1 and positive CQB, as well as compact non-locally symmetric Kähler manifolds with CQB<0 and ^dCQB<0.

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove that a compact Kähler manifold is projective if it satisfies certain quasi-positive curvature conditions, including quasi-positive $S_2^\perp,\, S_2^+,\,\mbox{Ric}_3^\perp, \,\mbox{Ric}_3^+$ or $2$-quasi-positive $\mbox{Ric}_k$. Subsequently, we prove that a compact Kähler manifold with a restricted holonomy group is both projective and rationally conected if it satisfies some non-negative curvature condition, including non-negative $S_2^\perp,\, S_2^+,\,\mbox{Ric}_3^\perp, \,\mbox{Ric}_3^+$ or $2$-non-negative $\mbox{Ric}_k$.

Quasi-positive curvature and vanishing theorems

Abstract:In this paper, we consider mixed curvature $\mathcal{C}_{a,b}$, which is a convex combination of Ricci curvature and holomorphic sectional curvature introduced by Chu-Lee-Tam. We prove that if a compact complex manifold M admits a Kähler metric with quasi-positive mixed curvature and $3a+2b\geq0$, then it is projective. If $a,b\geq0$, then M is rationally connected. As a corollary, the same result holds for k-Ricci curvature. We also show that any compact Kähler manifold with quasi-positive 2-scalar curvature is projective. Lastly, we generalize the result to the Hermitian case. In particular, any compact Hermitian threefold with quasi-positive real bisectional curvature have vanishing Hodge number $h^{2,0}$. Furthermore, if it is Kählerian, it is projective.

Abstract:In this work we consider compact Kähler manifolds with non-positive mixed curvature which is a “convex combination” of Ricci curvature and holomorphic sectional curvature. We show that in this case, the canonical line bundle is nef. Moreover, if the curvature is negative at some point, then the manifold is projective with canonical line bundle being big and nef. If in addition the curvature is negative, then the canonical line bundle is ample. As an application, we answer a question of Ni [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 74 (2021), pp. 1100–1126] concerning manifolds with negative k k -Ricci curvature and generalize a result of Wu-Yau [Comm. Anal. Geom. 24 (2016), pp. 901–912] and Diverio-Trapani [J. Differential Geom. 111 (2019), pp. 303–314] to the conformally Kähler case. We also show that the compact Kähler manifold is projective and simply connected if the mixed curvature is positive.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.
