Abstract:A new three-dimensional porous metal-organic framework, {[NH2(CH3)(2)][Zn(atz)(ox)]center dot H2O}(n) (1) (Hatz = 5-amino-1H-tetrazole, H(2)ox = oxalic acid), has been solvothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex 1 exhibits an anionic framework that can be simplified as a rarely reported 4-connected lon network. Complex 1 could be utilized as a platform for emission tuning by doping different lanthanide ions. In addition, gas adsorption studies reveal that 1 has a high isosteric heat of CO2 and good adsorption selectivity for CO2 over CH4 and N-2.

Abstract:A novel NbO type microporous metal-organic framework [Cu-2(C26H12O8)(H2O)(2)]center dot(DMF)(2)center dot(MeCN)(3)center dot(H2O)(4), (ZJU-7, ZJU = Zhejiang University; H4L - 5,5'-(naphthalene-1,4-diyl)diisophthalic acid; DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide; MeCN = acetonitrile) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. With open metal sites, suitable pore spaces and moderately high permanent porosity, the activated ZJU-7a exhibits moderately high CH4 storage of 160 cm(3)(STP) per cm(3) at 35 bar and 298 K. Meanwhile, ZJU-7a also displays moderate C2H2 gravimetric storage of 180 cm(3) g(-1) at 1 atm and 298 K.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional microporous metal–organic framework, Cu2(MFDI) (ZJU-60, H4MFDI = 5,5′-(9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluorene-2,7-diyl)diisophthalic acid), was solvothermally synthesized. ZJU-60 features a three-dimensional structure with a rare sty-a type topology and has two different types of pore apertures. With open metal sites and suitable pore spaces, ZJU-60 can readily separate methane in nearly pure form from CO2 and C2-hydrocarbon quaternary gas mixtures at room temperature with high separation capacity and moderate selectivity. The separation feasibility has been further established by simulated breakthrough and pulse chromatographic experiments.

Abstract:A methoxy-decorated novel metal-organic framework (MOF), Cu-2(DTPD) (ZJU-12, H4DTPD = 5,5'-(2,6-dimethoxynaphthalene- 1,5-diyl)diisophthalic acid) with optimized pore space and open metal sites, was solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The activated ZJU-12a displays a moderately high BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) surface area of 2316 m(2) g(-1). Due to the pore size of the crystal being consistent with the molecular size and kinetic diameters of C2H2 and CO2, ZJU-12a exhibits a high C2H2 storage capacity of 244 cm(3) g(-1) and CO2 capture capacity of 134 cm(3) g(-1) at room temperature.

Abstract:A new methyl-functionalized metal-organic framework, {Cu-3(CMPEIP)(2)center dot 2H(2)O}(n) {m-NB13, H3CMPEIP = 5-[(4-carboxy-2-methylphenyl)ethynyl]isophthalic acid} was solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. {Cu-3(CMPEIP)(2)center dot 2H(2)O}(n) exhibits a high BET surface area of 3215.4 m(2) g(-1), a large H-2 uptake (1.92 wt.-% at 0.1 MPa and 77 K), and excellent CO2 storage capacity (9.24 wt.-% at 0.1 MPa and 298 K).

Abstract:The self-assembly of a bifunctional organic ligand with a formate-bridged rod-shaped secondary building unit leads to a new microporous metal-organic framework (MOF). This MOF shows a moderately high C2H2 storage capacity (145 cm3/g) and an excellent adsorption selectivity for C2H2/CO2 (11) at room temperature. Furthermore, its discriminatory sorption behavior toward C2H2 and CO2 was probed by computational analysis in detail.

Abstract:A bifunctional ligand strategy for modification of the functional pores is of great significance in the structural design of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, a new 2-fold interpenetrated "pillared-layer" 3D Co-MOF, {[Co(HL)(4,4′-bipy)]·DMF·2H2O}n (1), was successfully synthesized by using two kinds of ligands, imidazolecarboxylic acid and pyridine. The metal–carboxylic layers are pillared by the 4,4′-bipy ligand, displaying a 3D framework with rectangular 3D channels (high BET surface of 190.9 m2 g–1 and maximum aperture of 3.9 Å) that are decorated with abundant uncoordinated N and O atoms. 1 shows good water stability and thermal stability (320 °C). The proper pores and active sites endowed 1 with a selective adsorption of Congo red in aqueous solution. Abstract:A new organic hexacarboxylic acid, 5,5',5 ''-(9H-carbazole-3,6,9-triyl)triisophthalic acid (H(6)CTIA), was developed to construct its first microporous metal organic framework (MOP), Cu-6(CTIA)(2) (ZJU-70). With open metal sites and suitable pore sizes, this MOP exhibits high acetylene and methane storage capacities at room temperature.

Abstract:This study successfully synthesized a new Metal‐Organic Framework (MOF) named CJLU‐L2, which was constructed from phosphorus‐containing ligands and Co(II) ions. The structure revealed through single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction (SCXRD), features a double‐walled honeycomb‐shaped structure with a one‐dimensional channel of ~ 6.5 Å. According to the PLATON calculation, the pore volume per unit cell of CJLU‐L2 was determined to be 6825.0 Å3, constituting 57.5% of the total crystal volume (11874.9 ų). The Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller (BET) surface area of CJLU‐L2 was determined to be 954 m2/g by N2 adsorption measurement at 77 K. The phase purity of CJLU‐L2 was verified by powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR), while its thermal stability was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Hydrogen adsorption experiments demonstrate that CJLU‐L2 exhibits a high hydrogen adsorption capacity, indicating significant potential for gas adsorption applications.

Abstract:A flexible metal-organic framework of 1a Cu(FMA)(4,4′-Bpe)0.5 (FMA=fumarate; 4,4′-Bpe=trans-bis-(4-pyridyl)ethylene) that exhibits guest molecule-controlled gate-opening adsorption has been reported, in which the flexible pores can be enlarged by CO2 molecules rather than CH4 and N2 under a certain gate-opening pressure. The CO2 uptake can be sharply improved from 6.85 cm3 g–1 at 0.60 atm to 33.7 cm3 g–1 at 1 atm due to the gate-opening effect, thus resulting in the notably enhanced adsorption selectivities for CO2/CH4 (32:1, v/v) and CO2/N2 (48:1, v/v) separations at room temperature.

Abstract:A new microporous metal-organic framework Cu-6(DDCBA)(3) (ZJU-72, H(5)DDCBA = 3,5-di(3',5'-dicarboxylpheny)-benozoic acid) with open metal sites and exposed carboxylate groups is rationally designed and synthesized, exhibiting a low binding energy of 9.7 kJ mol(-1) for C2H2 and 15.1 kJ mol(-1) for CO2 and a high separation selectivity of 39.7 for C2H2/CH4 at 298 K and 8.2 for CO2/CH4 at 273 K.

Abstract:A novel metal-organic framework (MOF), [Cu2L(H2O)2]·7DMF·4H2O [ZJU-40; H4L = 5,5'-(pyrazine-2,5-diyl)diisophthalic acid], with Lewis basic nitrogen sites has been constructed and structurally characterized. Owing to the combined features of high porosity, moderate pore sizes, and immobilized Lewis basic nitrogen sites, the activated ZJU-40a exhibits the second-highest gravimetric C2H2 uptake of 216 cm(3) g(-1) (at 298 K and 1 bar) among all of the reported MOFs so far. This value is not only much higher than that of the isoreticular NOTT-101a (184 cm(3) g(-1)), but also superior to those of two very promising MOFs, known as HKUST-1 (201 cm(3) g(-1)) and Co-MOF-74 (197 cm(3) g(-1)). Interestingly, the immobilized nitrogen sites in ZJU-40a have nearly no effect on the CO2 uptake, so ZJU-40a adsorbs a similar amount of CO2 (87 cm(3) g(-1)) compared with NOTT-101a (84 cm(3) g(-1)) at 298 K and 1 bar. As a result, ZJU-40a shows significantly enhanced adsorption selectivity for C2H2/CO2 separation (17-11.5) at ambient temperature compared to that of NOTT-101a (8-9), leading to a superior MOF material for highly selective C2H2/CO2 separation.

Abstract:By using an octadentate ligand tetrakis[(3,5-dicarboxyphenoxy) methyl]methane (H8L), a new microporous metal-organic framework [Cu4L(H2O)(4)](H2O)(31) (1) was solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. MOF 1 is built from the 4-connected square planar [Cu-2(O2CR)(4)] cluster and 8-connected cube ligand L to have a highly open framework with scu topology. It possesses permanent porosity as confirmed by N-2, H-2, C2H2, CO2 and CH4 gas adsorption measurements and exhibits high acetylene storage of 193 and 154 cm(3) g(-1) at 273 and 296 K under 1 atm, respectively.
Highly Enhanced Gas Uptake and Selectivity Via Incorporating Methoxy Groups into a Microporous Metal–Organic Framework

Abstract:A porous metal organic framework [Cu2L-(H2O)(2)]center dot 7DMF center dot 4H(2)O (UTSA-90, H4L = 2',5'-dimethoxy-[1,1':4',1"-terpheny1]-3,3",5,5"-tetracarboxylic acid) functionalized with methoxy groups has been successfully constructed and structurally characterized, which is isoreticular to NOTT-101. A single crystal structure determination reveals that the incorporation of bulky methoxy groups can efficiently split the large pores and channels of NOTT-101a into smaller ones within UTSA-90. Compared with NOTT-101a, the activated UTSA-90a exhibits the significantly enhanced C2H2 (214 vs 184 cm(3) g(-1)) and CO, (125 vs 83 cm(3) g(-1)) adsorption capacities at 295 K and 1 bar. It is worth noting that the CO, uptake of UTSA-90a represents the highest reported for all the NbO-type metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In addition, UTSA-90a also shows a significant enhancement in adsorptive selectivities for the separation of C2H2/CH4, CO2/CH4, and CO2/N-2 mixtures at ambient conditions. This work indicates that introducing bulky functional groups on the linker might be a promising approach to tune pore sizes and environments in MOFs for enhancing their gas adsorption and separation properties.

Abstract:A microporous metal–organic framework [Cu2L(H2O)2]·(DMF)0.5·(H2O)7, (ZJU-195, H4TTCA-NH2 = 5-amino-3,3,5,5-tetracarboxylic acid, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) has been designed, synthesized, structurally characterized, and examined for its gas storage and separation. The activated ZJU-195a has achieved high C2H2 storages of 275.6 cm3·g–1 at 273 K and 214.2 cm3·g–1 at 298 K under 1.0 bar. Furthermore, ZJU-195a selectively adsorbs C2H2 over CO2 and CH4, exhibiting moderately high C2H2/CH4 and C2H2/CO2 separations at ambient conditions with an ideal adsorbed solution theory selectivity of 43.4–64.6 and 4.7–12.4, respectively.
