Abstract:In this study, we prepared Fe 2 O 3 –Nb 2 O 5 binary mixed oxide catalysts using co-precipitation (CP), sol-gel (SG), and solid process (SR) methods and tested their performance. All the catalysts exhibited over 75% NO x removal efficiency between 250 °C and 400 °C. Compared with the samples prepared by the SR method, catalyst synthesized using CP and SG methods possessed a larger specific surface area, which could compensate for the lower surface area-normalized reaction rate originating from the insufficient reactive surface oxygen species, hence exhibiting a relatively high low-temperature apparent deNO x activity. However, at a high-temperature region, limited amount of reactive surface oxygen species, together with abundant strong acid sites, facilitated the proceeding of NH 3 reduction of NO x , which well explained the higher apparent activity of the catalyst prepared by SG method than the other two samples. It seemed that specific surface area had an important role to play in the low-temperature apparent performance of the catalysts, while chemical properties mainly decided the activity at an elevated temperature.
Tailoring the Proceeding of the NH3-SCO and NH3-SCR Reactions over FeOx Catalysts by Modifying with NbOx

Abstract:This study presents the synthesis of a series of FeOx-NbOx mixed oxide catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by NH3. By meticulously controlling the Fe/Nb molar ratio, we have rationally tailored the proceeding of the main reaction of NO reduction and the side reaction of NH3 oxidation to NOx. The incorporation of NbOx introduced a significant number of acid sites, which enhanced the adsorption of NH3 on the catalyst surface, particularly at elevated temperatures. Additionally, the oxidative capacity of the catalyst was moderated by the addition of NbOx, hindering the over-oxidation of NH3 to NO or NO2, thus preserving more NH3 to act as a reductant for NO reduction. Consequently, the NbOx-enriched samples exhibited improved deNO(x) performance. However, an excessive amount of NbOx led to a notably weakened oxidative ability, which negatively impacted the activation of reactants and resulted in decreased NO conversion at lower temperatures. The optimized catalyst presented >80 % NO conversion and >95 % N-2 selectivity within a temperature range of 250-400 degrees C. These findings offer valuable insights for the development of new catalysts with an extended operational temperature window.
Superior Room-Temperature Efficacy of Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO X by CO Utilizing Metal-Modified Fe 2 O 3 Catalysts

Abstract:Fe 2 O 3 -based catalysts demonstrate significant potential for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) by CO. However, their effectiveness is limited at lower temperatures, impeding widespread industrial adoption. To overcome this, we optimize the Fe 2 O 3 -based catalyst component through 3 wt% cobalt (Co) loading, which improves the synergistic removal of CO and NO x pollutants. Our developed catalyst, Co-Fe 2 O 3 on an amorphous SiO 2 substrate, exhibits superior room -temperature activity in CO -SCR, achieving CO and NO x conversion ratios as well as N 2 selectivity above 80 % at 25 degrees C, and over 93 % at 100 -500 degrees C. The enhancement in catalyst performance is elucidated through density functional theory calculations and experimental investigations, revealing the creation of heteronuclear active sites via metal modification, and consequent improvements in redox characteristics and acidity. Our findings offer a robust pathway towards the industrial implementation of ammonia -free -SCR technology with synergistic removal of CO and NO x and provide insights for designing superior heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:A Fe modified MOF-derived MnOx catalyst has been synthesized and studied for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR). Compared with pure MnOx, Fe-modified MnOx showed a broader activity temperature window, enhanced N2 selectivity, and improved sulfur tolerance. On one hand, the incorporation of Fe into MnOx increased acidity, thereby facilitating the adsorption of NH3 as well as its activation, which plays a crucial role for the reduction of NOx. On the other hand, the presence of Fe resulted in decreased Mn4+, which contributes to improved N2 selectivity. Over Fe modified MnOx catalyst, the coordinated NH3, NH4+, bridging nitrate and bidentate nitrate are reactive, and participate in the NH3-SCR reaction following both “Eley–Rideal(E-R)” and “Langmuir–Hinshelwood(L–H)” mechanism. The present research provides an idea for broadening the activity temperature window and enhancing the sulfur tolerance of MnOx catalyst for the reduction of NOx, making it more suitable for practical application.
Spinel Structured CoaMnbOx Mixed Oxide Catalyst for the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3

Abstract:A highly efficient catalyst of a CoaMnbOx mixed oxide prepared by the co-precipitation method was developed for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia. With an increase in the Mn content, the catalytic activity of the CoaMnbOx mixed oxide exhibited a volcano-type tendency, and when Co/Mn molar ratio reached 7:3 (Co7Mn3Ox), the operation temperature for achieving > 80% NOx conversion was 170 degrees C (116-285 degrees C window). The formation of spinel structured MnCo2O4 is highly important, and the presence of the spinel structure in Co7Mn3Ox contributes to the increase in active sites and thermal stability and promotes SO2 and/or H2O resistance. In comparison with MnOx or CoOx alone, the CoaMnbOx catalysts possess improved redox properties and more surface acid sites due to synergistic effects between the Co and Mn species. Among the CoaMnbOx catalysts with different Co/Mn molar ratios, a higher NH3 and NO + O-2 adsorption ability was found for the Co7Mn3Ox catalyst, originating from its MnCo2O4.5 phase and higher surface area, which leads to the higher activity of the Co7Mn3Ox, catalyst. In situ DRIFTs indicated that bridging nitrate and bidentate nitrate are the intermediate species in the NH3-SCR reaction, and the high NO adsorption ability and improved redox properties of the Co7Mn3Ox catalyst are beneficial for the formation of nitrate species on the catalyst surface. Furthermore, NH3 species adsorbed at Lewis acid sites taken part in SCR reaction, while the reactivity of NH3 species adsorbed at Bronsted acid was not definitized.
A Novel MnOx–MoOx Codoped Iron-Based Catalyst for NH3-SCR with Superior Catalytic Activity over a Wide Temperature Range

Abstract:MnOx and MoOx, as additives, have proved effective in enhancing the NH3 selective catalytic reduction activity of catalysts. In this study, a new Mn-Fe-Mo catalyst was prepared using both the precipitation method and impregnation method. The redox properties, surface acidity, and reaction intermediates of the prepared catalysts were analyzed using various techniques. The test results showed that the MFMo4 catalyst achieved a NOx conversion rate exceeding 90% over the temperature range of 120-390 degrees C, demonstrating high potential to replace V-based catalysts due to outstanding activity at both high and low temperatures. The addition of MoOx exerted a detrimental impact on the redox property and avoided the production of N2O, thereby enhancing the N-2 selectivity. Furthermore, the codoping of MnOx and MoOx inhibited the adsorption of NOx on the catalysts while resulting in an increased number of Lewis acid sites on the catalyst. This promoted its reaction via the Eley-Rideal mechanism, which played a crucial role in ensuring the catalyst had excellent SCR activity over a wide temperature range.
A stable spherical MOF-derived Mnx-Fe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>/C catalysts for low-temperature CO-SCR

Abstract:A series of spherical Mnx-Fe2O3/C catalysts derived from MnFe-MOF-74 were fabricated via a sacrificing tem -plate method and applied for CO-SCR. Among the tested catalysts, Mn0.5-Fe2O3/C catalysts achieved a maximum NO conversion of 100 % in a broad temperature range between 225 and 500 degrees C, significantly higher than monometallic Fe2O3/C. Based on TPR, BET and oS results, a redox reaction Fe3+ + Mn2+ <-> Fe2+ + Mn3+ over Fe-O-Mn sites was constructed, which greatly facilitated the adsorption and activation of NO molecules. DFT calculations revealed that the incorporation of Mn obviously increased the local electron density of Fe-Mn sites not only resulting in a strong C-Fe/Mn and N-Fe/Mn bonding, but also effectively weaken the N-O bond. And the NO adsorption energy of Fe-O-Mn site over Mn doped alpha-Fe2O3 is-0.87 eV which indicates the stability of the adsorption configuration. Combined with the in situ FT-IR results, important intermediates Fe2+-(NO)22- and N2O were identified respectively at 1261 and 1358 cm-1, which were promoted by the synergistic interaction of Mn and Fe. This Mn-Fe synergistic interaction could contribute to lowering reaction barrier and boosting CO-SCR performance.
MnOx-Decorated Fe–Zr-Based Nano-Catalysts for Low-Temperature NH3-SCR: Improvement of Catalytic Activity

Abstract:MnOx-modified Fe-Zr-based nano-catalysts (denoted as Mn(co)/Fe-Zr and Mn(im)/Fe-Zr) were synthesized with the co-precipitation impregnation method and impregnation method, respectively, and then were used for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 (SCR). Among these catalysts, the Mn(co)/Fe-Zr catalyst exhibits the highest NH3-SCR activity (94%) at 225 degrees C when WHSV = 300,000 mL g(-1) h(-1). Meanwhile, the properties of catalysts had been characterized by XRD, BET, XPS, and H-2-TPR. As determined by BET, the addition of MnOx increased the surface area and pore volume of the catalyst. The XRD results suggest that the Mn(co)/Fe-Zr possessed highly dispersed MnOx on the surface of the catalyst. The results of XPS revealed that the Mn(co)/Fe-Zr had highest concentrations of Mn4+ and Fe3+.
Low-Temperature Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3 over Fe–Mn Mixed-Oxide Catalysts Containing Fe3Mn3O8 Phase

Abstract:Novel Fe-Mn mixed-oxide catalysts were prepared for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia in the presence of excess oxygen. It was found that Fe(0.4)-MnOx catalyst showed the highest activity, yielding 98.8% NOx conversion and 100% selectivity of N-2 at 120 degrees C at a space velocity of 30 000 h(-1). XRD results suggested that a new crystal phase of Fe3Mn3O8 was formed in the Fe-MnOx catalysts. TPR and Raman data showed that there was a strong interaction between the iron oxide and manganese oxide, which is responsible for the formation of the active center-Fe3Mn3O8. Intensive analysis of fresh, used, and regenerated catalysts by XPS revealed that electron transfer between Fen+ and Mnn+ ions in Fe3Mn3O8 may account for the long lifetime of the Fe (0.4)-MnOx catalyst. In addition, the SCR activity was suppressed a little in the presence of SO2 and H2O, but it was reversible after their removal.

Abstract:In this work, the Co–Al spinel catalyst and M–Co–Al (M = Fe and Ce) catalysts were synthesized to explore their catalytic performance for the NH 3 -SCR reaction. The physicochemical properties of these catalysts were further characterized utilizing N 2 -physisorption, XRD, NH 3 -TPD, H 2 -TPR, XPS, SEM, and EDS mapping. The results show that Fe/Ce addition has a significant influence on the catalytic performance and physicochemical properties of catalysts. The Co-Al spinel catalyst yields the lowest catalytic performance, while the Fe–Co–Al catalyst exhibits the best catalytic performance and more than 93% NO x conversion can be obtained in the range of 240–270 °C. Meanwhile, Fe or Ce addition can promote the oxidation of NO to NO 2 and inhibit the NH 3 oxidation reaction. The characterization results indicate that the addition of Fe or Ce remarkably reduces the crystallinity of spinel oxides and facilitates the dispersion of active species. Furthermore, the synergistic interaction between Fe/Ce and Co increases the ratio of O β /(O α + O β ) and Co 3+ /(Co 3+ + Co 2+ ), which can accelerate the catalytic performance of catalysts. Finally, better redox properties and moderate surface acidity of catalysts can be obtained with the addition of Fe or Ce. All of the mentioned above contribute to the promoted catalytic performance of catalysts and such an effect is more pronounced with Fe doping.

Abstract:Nitrogen oxide (NOx) is an important precursor for many air pollution problems such as fine particulate matter and ground-level ozone. Because air pollution levels increase daily, it is important to control NOx emissions from industrial boiler flue gas. A series of different Co3O4 catalysts was prepared in this study by different methods. The effects of the preparation methods on selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (CO-SCR) were investigated. The catalysts were characterized by BET, XRD, HR-TEM, and Raman. The results show that the Co3O4-S catalyst, prepared by solid grinding with cobalt sulfate as the precursor, had better CO-SCR activity and H2O resistance and that Co3O4-C, prepared by solid grinding with cobalt acetate as the precursor, showed excellent H2O resistance. The NO oxidation results showed that better NO oxidation activity over the catalysts is an important reason for the improved CO-SCR activity. The Raman results indicate that more Co2+ ions appeared on the surface of Co3O4-S, which benefited the formation of oxygen vacancies. The H2-TPR results showed better redox property of the Co3O4-S catalyst. The HR-TEM results shoes that the (111) and (220) crystal planes were exposed mainly on Co3O4-S and Co3O4-O and that more (220) crystal planes are conducive to improved reaction.
Effectively Promote Catalytic Performance by Adjusting W/Fe Molar Ratio of FeWx/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 Monolithic Catalyst for NH3-SCR

Abstract:FeWx/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 (x = 0, 0.35, 0.7, 1.03, 1.38) catalysts with different molar ratios (x) of W/Fe were prepared for NH3-SCR. The experimental results showed that catalytic performances of catalysts were obviously improved by adjusting the molar ratio of W/Fe. FeW1.03/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 catalyst with W/Fe of 1.03 displayed the best catalytic performance, it could obtain higher than 95% NOx, conversion and nearly 100% N-2 selectivity in the temperature range of 250-435 degrees C. The characterization results indicated that more active species of Fe3+, chemical adsorbed oxygen species and surface acid sites would together contribute to the excellent NH3-SCR performance of FeW1.03/Ce0.68Zr0.32O2 catalyst. Optimization of Promoter and Support for Co-based/ zeolites Catalysts in Catalytic Reduction of NOx by CH4

Abstract:Catalytic behavior of Co-based/ zeolites catalysts was investigated in NOx reduction by CH4 . Optimization of promoter and support was investigated by catalytic tests, and the relationship between catalytic activity and catalyst structure was illustrated by catalyst characterization. Co-Fe/ SAPO- 34 exhibited the highest activity among various Co-base/ zeolites catalysts. The maximum conversion of NOx with 52. 7% was obtained on Co-Fe/ SAPO-34 at 450℃ . The inhibition of activity of Fe/ zeolites became severe in the presence of SO2 , CO2 , and H2 O. CO2 exerted virtually no effect on the SCR activity of Co-Fe/ zeolites. The inhibition of NOx conversion by H2 O was reversible for Co-Fe/ zeolites catalysts. Cobalt species were mainly present in CoO and Co(OH) 2 states in Co-Fe/ SAPO-34. Co3 O4 and Co(OH) 2 were the main cobalt species of Co-Fe/ ZSM-5, while CoO, CoAl2 O4 and Co3 O4 might be present in Co-Fe/ Beta. The ratio of Fe2 + / Fe3 + in the surface layer of Co-Fe/ zeolites decreased in the order of Co-Fe/ ZSM-5(3. 98) > Co-Fe/SAPO-34(0. 52) > Co-Fe/ Beta(0. 43). The active states of cobalt species and suitable ratio of Fe2 + / Fe3 + were important for the activity of Co-Fe/ zeolites in CH4-SCR. CH4-SCR over Co-Fe/ zeolite catalysts started with the adsorption of NO and CH4 on Br?nsted acid sites of the zeolite to produce NO + and carbon-containing species(—C =O and —COO) in the presence of oxygen, respectively. Subsequently, the important intermediates of nitrate species were generated from NO + at the active sites. Finally, nitrate species reacted with carbon-containing species to form N2 and CO2 .
Efficient Catalysis for Low-Temperature CO Selective Catalytic Reduction over an Fe-Cu Bimetal Oxide Catalyst Supported on Amorphous SiO2

Abstract:ABSTRACT: Efforts have been devoted to exploring the effective composite catalysts for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NOx by CO (CO-SCR) using Fe-Cu bimetal oxide (Fe2Cu1) as the active component and rice husk ash (RHA), amorphous SiO2, and activated carbon (AC) as supports. The results showed that the beneficial role of RHA as a catalyst support for CO-SCR was primarily reliant on amorphous SiO2 in RHA and not on AC. Both Fe2Cu1/RHA and Fe2Cu1/amorphous SiO2 catalysts exhibited the best catalytic performance of CO-SCR, which had good stability, wide active temperature range, high conversion ratio, 100% N2 selectivity, and superior resistance to O2, SO2, and H2O (g). The CO and NOx conversion ratios of Fe2Cu1/ amorphous SiO2 could reach up to approximately 100% from 100 to 500 degrees C. The excellent SCR performance was associated with the large specific surface area and good structural stability of amorphous SiO2, the uniform distribution of active sites, dual redox cycle of Fe2O3 and CuO species, and many surface-adsorbed oxygen species, which made amorphous SiO2-based catalysts highly competitive for application in the SCR process. This research provides the underlying insights for the improvement of industrial application to realize '' non-ammonia SCR '' technology with near-zero NOx/CO emissions synergistically at low temperatures.
Revealing the Excellent Low-Temperature Activity of the Fe1–xCexOδ-S Catalyst for NH3-SCR: Improvement of the Lattice Oxygen Mobility

Abstract:The development of selective catalytic reduction catalysts by NH3(NH3-SCR) with excellent low-temperature activity and a wide temperature window is highly demanded but is still very challenging for the elimination of NOx emission from vehicle exhaust. Herein, a series of sulfated modified iron-cerium composite oxide Fe1-xCexOδ-S catalysts were synthesized. Among them, the Fe0.79Ce0.21Oδ-S catalyst achieved the highest NOx conversion of more than 80% at temperatures of 175-375 °C under a gas hourly space velocity of 100000 h-1. Sulfation formed a large amount of sulfate on the surface of the catalyst and provided rich Brønsted acid sites, thus enhancing its NH3 adsorption capacity and improving the overall NOx conversion efficiency. The introduction of Ce is the main determining factor in regulating the low-temperature activity of the catalyst by modulating its redox ability. Further investigation found that there is a strong interaction between Fe and Ce, which changed the electron density around the Fe ions in the Fe0.79Ce0.21Oδ-S catalyst. This weakened the strength of the Fe-O bond and improved the lattice oxygen mobility of the catalyst. During the reaction, the iron-cerium composite oxide catalyst showed higher surface lattice oxygen activity and a faster replenishment rate of bulk lattice oxygen. This significantly improved the adsorption and activation of NOx species and the activation of NH3 species on the catalyst surface, thus leading to the superior low-temperature activity of the catalyst.
Mechanism of NO reduction by NH3 over MnCuOx catalysts and the influence mechanism of CO

Abstract:A series of CuMnOx catalysts were prepared through the coprecipitation method to explore the effect of CO participation on the NH3- SCR reaction. The results showed that the CM-3 sample reached 100% conversion of CO and NO at a temperature lower than 175 °C; This is mainly because the correct proportion of copper and manganese helps to form solid solution and improve the coordination between metals. Moreover, the interaction principle of CO participating in the NH3-SCR reaction was thoroughly investigated through in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS) and density functional theory (DFT). First, NH3 had varying adsorption modes at different temperatures; Second, NH3 and CO competed for the same active center, which significantly affected the catalytic reaction on the sample surface. Further, it was confirmed that the deposition of CO32- is the main reason for the decline in activity. Finally, the improvement in N2 selectivity in the reaction with CO participation was due to the produced N2O not being directly released but being further reduced to N2 through species such as CO.

Abstract:Iron-based oxide catalysts for the NH3–SCR (selective catalytic reduction of NOx by NH3) reaction have gained attention due to their high catalytic activity and structural adjustability. In this work, iron–niobium, iron–titanate and iron–molybdenum composite oxides were synthesized by a co-precipitation method with or without the assistance of hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The catalysts synthesized with the assistance of CTAB (FeM0.3Ox-C, M = Nb, Ti, Mo) showed superior SCR performance in an operating temperature range from 150 °C to 400 °C compared to those without CTAB addition (FeM0.3Ox, M = Nb, Ti, Mo). To reveal such enhancement, the catalysts were characterized by N2-physisorption, XRD (Powder X-ray diffraction), NH3-TPD (temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia), DRIFTS (Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy), XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), and H2-TPR (H2-Total Physical Response). It was found that the crystalline phase of Fe2O3 formed was influenced by the presence of CTAB in the preparation process, which favored the formation of crystalline γ-Fe2O3. Owing to the changed structure, the redox-acid properties of FeM0.3Ox-C catalysts were modified, with higher exposure of acid sites and improved ability of NO oxidation to NO2 at low-temperature, both of which also contributed to the improvement of NOx conversion. In addition, the weakened redox ability of Fe prevented the over-oxidation of NH3, thus accounting for the greatly improved high-temperature activity as well as N2 selectivity.

Abstract:In this study, a series of catalysts, supported by γ-Fe2O3 and with different concentrations of Co3O4 as active components, were prepared by impregnation method for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by CO. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), H2 temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), in situ infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS). The possible mechanism of catalysts in NO + CO reaction was proposed. The results show when the molar ratio of Co3O4 to γ-Fe2O3 is 20:45, the catalyst has the best N2 yield in NO + CO reaction, it is because the two metal oxides have the strongest interaction at this ratio and can produce more oxygen vacancies on the surface and improve the oxygen storage capacity. After a period of magnetization, it showed better catalytic performance than before, because the magnetized catalyst can absorb additional paramagnetic gas like NO. Finally, based on the results of in-situ infrared spectroscopy, a possible mechanism is proposed, showing that the reaction conforms to the L-H mechanism.

Abstract:The simultaneous reaction of CO oxidation and selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR) is of great challenge in heterogeneous catalysis, especially at low temperatures, and the interaction between these two reactions is not clear. In this work, a series of α-MnO2-M (M=Fe, Co, Ce, Cu) nanorod catalysts were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The α-MnO2-Cu nanorod catalyst showed the highest catalytic performance with over 85% NOx and CO removal efficiency from 150 to 250°C. The addition of Cu specie increased the redox ability, total oxygen storage, surface acidic sites and total CO adsorption capacity, which should be responsible for the enhanced SCR and CO oxidation activity of the α-MnO2-Cu nanorod catalyst. The interaction of CO oxidation and SCR reaction has been investigated over α-MnO2-Cu nanorod catalyst. The CO reduced the NO adsorption, which further inhibited the L-H mechanism, reduced the SCR activity and narrowed the temperature window, especially the reduction of N2 selectivity. The NH3 negatively affected CO oxidation by reducing the generation of the Mn-COO formate intermediate, while the NO promoted CO oxidation through the decomposition of intermediates, which was formed by the combination of nitrate and nitrite with gaseous CO. When NH3 and NO existed together, CO oxidation was dominated by the promotional effect of NO.
