Abstract:We investigate the quantum phase transition of an atomic ensemble trapped in a single-mode optical cavity via the geometric phase and quantum Fisher information of an extra probe atom which is injected into the optical cavity and interacts with the cavity field. We also find that the geometric quantum correlation between two probe atoms exhibits a double sudden transition phenomenon and show this double sudden transition phenomenon is closely associated with the quantum phase transition of the atomic ensemble. Furthermore, we propose a theoretical scheme to prolong the frozen time during which the geometric quantum correlation remains constant by applying time-dependent electromagnetic field.

Abstract:We study the geometric phase factors underlying the classical and the corresponding quantum dynamics of a driven nonlinear oscillator exhibiting chaotic dynamics. For the classical problem, we compute the geometric phase factors associated with the phase space trajectories using Frenet-Serret formulation. For the corresponding quantum problem, the geometric phase associated with the time evolution of the wave function is computed. Our studies suggest that the classical geometric phase may be related to the the difference in the quantum geometric phases between two neighboring eigenstates.

Abstract:The Lewis' invariant and exact solution for the driven generalized time-dependent harmonic oscillator is found by making use of the Lewis-Riesenfeld quantum theory. Then, the adiabatic asymptotic limit of the exact solution is discussed and the Berry's phase for this system is obtained. We then proceed to use the exact solution to construct the coherent state and calculate the corresponding exact classical phase angle. This phase angle can give the Hannay's angle in the adjabatic limit. The relation between the exact Lewis' phase and the corresponding classical phase angle is discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory is generalized for the study of systems with non-Hermitian time-dependent Hamiltonians. It is then used to study the nonadiabatic cyclic evolution and the Aharonov-Anandan phase. It is shown that the study of noncyclic evolution can be reduced to the study of cyclic evolution. The two-level dissipative system and the classical time-dependent harmonic oscillator are discussed as illustrative examples.

Abstract:We investigate the geometric phase of a two-level atom (qubit) coupled to a bosonic reservoir with Lorentzian spectral density and find that for the non-Markovian dynamics in which the rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is performed, the geometric phase has a pi-phase jump at the nodal point. However, the exact result without the RWA given by the hierarchical equations of motion method shows that there is no such phase jump or nodal structure in the geometric phase. Thus our results demonstrate that the counterrotating terms significantly contribute to the geometric phase in the multimode Hamiltonian under certain circumstances.

Abstract:We investigated the mixed state geometric phase of a two-level system which is coupled to a bosonic reservoir in both weak and strong coupling regimes, and driven by a classical field. Besides, we extended the direct-drive model to the indirect-drive model by incorporating an additional qubit. In the direct-drive model, the geometric phase undergoes corresponding alterations through the amplification of the classical field strength. Moreover, the combination of the classical driving and the strong coupling between the two-level system and the bosonic reservoir significantly changes the geometric phase. Furthermore, we elucidate the asymmetric effect of the detuning between the two-level system and the Lorentzian spectrum on the geometric phase, while achieving stability in the geometric phase regardless of the detuning value by appropriately adjusting the classical driving strength. In the indirect-drive model, intriguing phenomena arise, such as different behaviors of the geometric phase and the restoration of the symmetric effects of the detuning. The explicit dynamics of the geometric phase has been numerically analyzed by investigating the time-dependent factor of the reduced density matrix. Finally, the energy flow of the entire system was clarified by utilizing quasimode theory and visualizing the temporal evolution of the Bloch vector.

Abstract:Beyond the quantum Markov approximation, we calculate the geometric phase of a two-level system driven by a quantized magnetic field subject to phase dephasing. The phase reduces to the standard geometric phase in the weak coupling limit and it involves the phase information of the environment in general. In contrast with the geometric phase in dissipative systems, the geometric phase acquired by the system can be observed on a long time scale. We also show that with the system decohering to its pointer states, the geometric phase factor tends to a sum over the phase factors pertaining to the pointer states.

Abstract:We provide a physical prescription based on interferometry for introducing the total phase of a mixed state undergoing unitary evolution, which has been an elusive concept in the past. We define the parallel transport condition that provides a connection form for obtaining the geometric phase for mixed states. The expression for the geometric phase for mixed state reduces to well known formulas in the pure state case when a system undergoes noncyclic and unitary quantum evolution.

Abstract:The concept of a geometric phase (Berry's phase) is generalized to the case of noneigenstates, which is applicable to both linear and nonlinear quantum systems. This is particularly important to nonlinear quantum systems, where, due to the lack of the superposition principle, the adiabatic evolution of a general state cannot be described in terms of eigenstates. For linear quantum systems, our new geometric phase reduces to a statistical average of Berry's phases. Our results are demonstrated with a nonlinear two-level model.

Abstract:Two geometric phases of mixed quantum states, known as the interferometric phase and Uhlmann phase, are generalizations of the Berry phase of pure states. After reviewing the two geometric phases and examining their parallel-transport conditions, we specify a class of cyclic processes that are compatible with both conditions and therefore accumulate both phases through their definitions, respectively. Those processes then facilitate a fair comparison between the two phases. We present exact solutions of two-level and three-level systems to contrast the two phases. While the interferometric phase exhibits finite-temperature transitions only in the three-level system but not the two-level system, the Uhlmann phase shows finite-temperature transitions in both cases. Thus, using the two geometric phases as finite-temperature topological indicators demonstrates the rich physics of topology of mixed states.

Geometric phase for a nonstatic coherent light-wave: nonlinear evolution harmonized with the dynamical phase

Abstract:Properties of the geometric phase for a nonstatic coherent light-wave arisen in a static environment are analyzed from various angles. The geometric phase varies in a regular nonlinear way, where the center of its variation increases constantly with time. This consequence is due to the effects of the periodic wave collapse and expansion on the evolution of the geometric phase. Harmonization of such a geometric-phase evolution with the dynamical phase makes the total phase evolve with a unique pattern that depends on the degree of nonstaticity. The total phase exhibits a peculiar behavior for the case of extreme nonstaticity, which is that it precipitates periodically in its evolution, owing to a strong response of the geometric phase to the wave nonstaticity. It is confirmed that the geometric phase in the coherent state is mostly more prominent compared to that in the Fock states. For a simple case where the wave nonstaticity disappears, our description of the geometric phase recovers to the well-known conventional one which no longer undergoes periodical change. While the familiar dynamical phase is just related to the expectation value of the Hamiltonian, the geometric phase that we have managed reflects a delicate nonstaticity difference in the evolution of quantum states.

Abstract:Garrison and Wright showed that upon undergoing cyclic quantum evolution a meta-stable state acquires both a geometric phase and a geometric decay probability. This is described by a complex geometric ``phase'' associated with the cyclic evolution of two states and is closely related to the two state formalism developed by Aharonov et al.. Applications of the complex geometric phase to the Born--Oppenheimer approximation and the Aharonov--Bohm effect are considered. A simple experiment based on the optical properties of absorbing birefringent crystals is proposed.

Abstract:The coherent states associated with the Pegg-Barnett Hermitian phase operator are constructed. Their properties are studied in detail. The coherent state representation of the Pegg-Barnett phase operators is obtained. The number-phase squeezing and the number-phase uncertainty relation are discussed for a two-state system.

Abstract:Objective The algebriaic dynamics is applied to investigate the geometric phase of a Heisenberg-chain,in order to find out how the coulping strengths between spins influence the geometric phase of this system.Method An interacting anisotropic 3-spin 1/2 system,which is driven by a rotating magnetic field,is considered.The system has a su(2) algebraic structure.By an unitary gauge transformation,this nonautonomous system becomes an autonomous system.The Schrodinger equation of the autonomous system is solved.By virtue of the inverse transformation of the original gauge transformation,the exact analytical solution to the time dependent Schrodinger equation is obtained in total spin 1/2 subspace.Resutlt The geometric phases in this subspace are calculated.Conclusion The result shows that(i)Coulping strengths don't influence the geometric phases of this system;(ii) The geometric phases of the system is the same as that of one spin 1/2 system in a rotating magnetic field.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the behaviour of the geometric phase of a more generalized nonlinear system composed of an effective two-level system interacting with a single-mode quantized cavity field. Both the field nonlinearity and the atom-field coupling nonlinearity are considered. We find that the geometric phase depends on whether the index k is an odd number or an even number in the resonant case. In addition, we also find that the geometric phase may be easily observed when the field nonlinearity is not considered. The fractional statistical phenomenon appears in this system if the strong nonlinear atom-field coupling is considered. We have also investigated the geometric phase of an effective two-level system interacting with a two-mode quantized cavity field.

Abstract:Geometric phase of mixed state for three-level open system is defined by establishing in connecting density matrix with nonunit vector ray in a three-dimensional complex Hilbert space. Because the geometric phase depends only on the smooth curve on this space, it is formulated entirely in terms of geometric structures. Under the limiting of pure state, our approach is in agreement with the Berry phase, Pantcharatnam phase, and Aharonov and Anandan phase. We find that, furthermore, the Berry phase of mixed state correlated to population inversions of three-level open system.
