Abstract:Ferrofluids, also known as ferromagnetic particle suspensions, are materials with an excellent magnetic response, which have attracted increasing interest in both industrial production and scientific research areas. Because of their outstanding features, such as rapid magnetic reaction, flexible flowability, as well as tunable optical and thermal properties, ferrofluids have found applications in various fields, including material science, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, and engineering. Here, a comprehensive, in‐depth insight into the diverse applications of ferrofluids from material fabrication, droplet manipulation, and biomedicine to energy and machinery is provided. Design of ferrofluid‐related devices, recent developments, as well as present challenges and future prospects are also outlined.

Abstract:The nano-Fe3O4 magnetic particles were prepared using chemical precipitation,and the magnetic fluid was obtained through dispersing nano-Fe3O4 magnetic particles evenly into the carrier liquid.The structure properties of samples were studied by XRD and TEM.The magneto-thermal effect,Faraday effect and Kerr effect were studied for these magnetic fluid samples.And the ferro-fluid thin film display was successfully achieved.The optimal parameter was obtained,such as the packing sodium oleate 0.021 6 g/mL.The particles had small size and high stability,magneto-thermal effect was remarkable.The transmissivity of magnetic fluid film changed obviously when the magnetic induction changed,so the effect of transmittivity must be considered for the measurement of Verdet constant.The abnormal Kerr effect existed in magnetic fluid.

Abstract:In this research, a new low refractive index ferrofluid is proposed by coating magnetic nanoparticles with a layer of silver, applying the method of modified chemical co-precipitation. This preparation method is green and environmentally friendly without toxic gases being released. Coated nanoparticles are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and vibration sample magnetometery (VSM). These characterizations show that the silver nanoparticles grow on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles in this new ferrofluid. The hysteresis loop of this new ferrofluid demonstrates that it maintains superparamagnetic properties. A new method of refractive index measurement is applied in this research by employing a long-period grating (LPG) optical fiber sensor. The change value in the refractive index per unit concentration reduces by 16.46% compared to the conventional ferrofluid.

Abstract:The rheological properties of ferrofluids are related to various applications, such as sealing and loudspeakers, and have therefore attracted widespread attention. However, the rheological properties and their influence on the mechanisms of perfluoropolyether oil (PFPE oil)-based ferrofluids are complicated and not clear. Here, a series of PFPE oil-based ferrofluids were synthesized via a chemical co-precipitation method, and their rheological properties were revealed, systematically. The results indicate that the prepared Zn-ferrite particles have an average size of 12.1 nm, within a range of 4-18 nm, and that the ferrofluids have excellent dispersion stability. The activity of the ferrofluids changes from Newtonian to non-Newtonian, then to solid-like with increasing w from 10 wt% to 45.5 wt%, owing to their variation in microstructures. The viscosity of the ferrofluids increases with increasing M-w (the molecular weight of base liquid PFPE oil polymer), attributed to the increase in entanglements between PFPE oil molecules. The magnetization temperature variation of Zn-ferrite nanoparticles and viscosity temperature variation of PFPE oil together contribute to the viscosity temperature change in ferrofluids. The viscosity of the ferrofluids basically remains unchanged when shear rate is above 50 s(-1), with increasing magnetic field strength; however, it first increases and then levels off when the rate is under 10 s(-1), revealing that the shear rate and magnetic field strength together affect viscosity. The viscosity and its alteration in Zn-ferrite/PFPE oil-based ferrofluids could be deduced through our work, which will be greatly significant in basic theoretical research and in various applications.</p>

Abstract:In recent years,magnetic nanoparticles and lanthanum rare earth fluorescent materials have been a-roused a wide range of the researchers'interest because of their unique magnetic and fluorescent properties. However,with the development of biological science and technology,materials with single function have failed to meet the needs of experimental research.Therefore,the materials with both magnetic and fluorescent proper-ties have attracted much attention.This paper summarizes the research progress of magnetic-fluorescent,which was about different rare-earth fluorescent host-based nanocomposites,mainly introduced the preparation meth-ods,composite way and performance characterization of the magnetic-fluorescent nanocomposites,which Fe3 O4 nanoparticle was used as the magnetic core and lanthanum rare-earth doping nanoparticles were used as the fluo-rescent shell.The research based on the bifunctional nanoparticles with both magnetic and fluorescent proper-ties,which will play a key role in promoting the development in the field of biological,medical and so on.

Abstract:Magnetic nanofluids, also referred to as ferromagnetic particle levitation systems, are materials with highly responsive magnetic properties. Due to their magnetic responsiveness, excellent controllability, favorable thermal characteristics, and versatility, magnetic nanofluids have sparked considerable interest in both industrial manufacturing and scientific research. Magnetic nanofluids have been used and developed in diverse areas such as materials science, physics, chemistry and engineering due to their remarkable characteristics such as rapid magnetic reaction, elastic flow capacities, and tunable thermal and optical properties. This paper provides a full and in-depth introduction to the diverse uses of ferrofluids including material fabrication, fluid droplet manipulation, and biomedicine for the power and machinery sectors. As a result, magnetic nanofluids have shown promising applications and have provided innovative ideas for multidisciplinary research in biology, chemistry, physics and materials science. This paper also presents an overview of the device construction and the latest developments in magnetic-nanofluid-related equipment, as well as possible challenging issues and promising future scenarios.

Abstract:Using an altering chemically induced transition route, magnetic nanoparticles as well as nanoparticles modified with oleic acid have been prepared. The modified nanoparticles have been used to synthesize a high-quality kerosene-based ferrofluid, in which the mass fraction percentage of particles consisting of a γ-Fe2O3 core and an oleic acid coating, ϕm, amounted to 55%. Ferrofluids having lower concentrations of particles were obtained by diluting the mother ferrofluid. Magnetization measurements showed the as-synthesized ferrofluids to have excellent dispersity of the particles and field-induced inter-particle interactions. Optical transparency measurements confirmed that the ferrofluids showed a sensitive field-induced effect of chain-like aggregation, with redispersion of the particles after removing the magnetic field. According to results concerning both particle structure and ferrofluid density, the volume fraction percentage of particles, including both the γ-Fe2O3 core and the oleic acid coating, ϕ′v, as well as that of the γ-Fe2O3 alone, ϕv, can be deduced.

Abstract:To improve the sealing performance of ferrofluid, a Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles with different coating times was synthesized by the chemical co-precipitation method, and the performance of diester-based Fe3O4 ferrofluid was investigated and characterized. A convergent ferrofluid seal (CFFS) device was designed and the prepared ferrofluid was applied to it. The influence of important factors such as seal clearance and pole teeth of CFFS on the pressure capability of the CFFS are investigated using simulations and experiments. The results show that the prepared magnetization intensity of the ferrofluid is 29.5 kA/m. The simulation and experimental results of the CFFS agree well, and its performance is 3.3 times that of the ordinary ferrofluid seal.

Abstract:Ferrofluids are colloidal suspensions of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) within aqueous or nonaqueous liquids that exhibit strong magnetic properties. These magnetic properties allow ferrofluids to be manipulated and controlled when exposed to magnetic fields. This review aims to provide the current scope and research opportunities regarding the methods of synthesis of nanoparticles, surfactants, and carrier liquids for ferrofluid production, along with the rheology and applications of ferrofluids within the fields of medicine, water treatment, and mechanical engineering. A ferrofluid is composed of IONPs, a surfactant that coats the magnetic IONPs to prevent agglomeration, and a carrier liquid that suspends the IONPs. Coprecipitation and thermal decomposition are the main methods used for the synthesis of IONPs. Despite the fact that thermal decomposition provides precise control on the nanoparticle size, coprecipitation is the most used method, even when the oxidation of iron can occur. This oxidation alters the ratio of maghemite/magnetite, influencing the magnetic properties of ferrofluids. Strategies to overcome iron oxidation have been proposed, such as the use of an inert atmosphere, adjusting the Fe(II) and Fe(III) ratio to 1:2, and the exploration of other metals with the oxidation state +2. Surfactants and carrier liquids are chosen according to the ferrofluid application to ensure stability. Hence, a compatible carrier liquid (polar or nonpolar) is selected, and then, a surfactant, mainly a polymer, is embedded in the IONPs, providing a steric barrier. Due to the variety of surfactants and carrier liquids, the rheological properties of ferrofluids are an important response variable evaluated when synthesizing ferrofluids. There are many reported applications of ferrofluids, including biosensing, medical imaging, medicinal therapy, magnetic nanoemulsions, and magnetic impedance. Other applications include water treatment, energy harvesting and transfer, and vibration control. To progress from synthesis to applications, research is still ongoing to ensure control of the ferrofluids' properties.

Abstract:This paper explains how to make ferrimagnetic ferrofluid r-Fe2O3with chemical precipitation. First, ferrimagnetic nanoparticle r-Fe2O3is produced with chemical coprecipitation. Then, the ferrofluid r-Fe2O3is synthesized by Massart method. Without magnetic field, the interaction energy of two r-Fe2O3particles is about 1.92×10-19J, which is more than heat energy and is easy to form a reunion. There exist ring-like structure in ferrofluidr-Fe2O3, which has no contribution to the saturation magnetization. The saturation magnetization is less than the theoretical value. The bigger the volume fraction, the more self-assembly ring structure, the less possible it is to crack in the process of dilution and magnetization.
