Abstract:Concluding the formula of backscattering photons count in common case, we analyze some factors influencing backscattering photons count by the analysis of simplified model, and find the difference of backscattering photons count of different matter and in different geometrical condition.

Abstract:In this paper, based upon the general law of transmission of basic model Gaussian beam, the reflection and refraction of laser at optical surfaces are analyzed respectively. Using the complex parameters of Gaussion beam, a simple algorithm for researching stray light and ghosts caused by Gaussian beam is presented. Depending on the algorithm, a dynamic data structure of tree which can describe the stray light of the system is built, an energy density superposition algorithm based on the distribution of complex amplitude of Gaussian beam is discussed, and a stray light and ghost analysis software for basic model Gaussian beam is developed. It can be seen from given example that the method describes completely the transmission of basic model Gaussian beam in optical systems and the ghost distribution. For given conditions (e.g. the maximum reflection times), the total energy density of Gaussian beam at certain position in optical systems with high accuracy could be calculated.

Abstract:Accurate measurement of flash X-ray energy spectra plays an important role in high-energy flash radiography. In this paper, by virtue of Geant4 toolkit, we simulated the generation and transport of X-ray photons resulting from the interaction of a high-energy electron beam with a solid thin target. We obtained the flash X-ray energy spectral distribution in the plane perpendicular to the electron beam incident direction. Our results indicate that the flash Xray spectrum is almost uniform in the azimuthal direction but is quite different in the radius direction. Specifically, as the radius increases, the incident X-ray dose decreases significantly. Our work paves a theoretical basis for selecting appropriate structures and layout of the spectrometer and facilitates the measurements of flash X-ray energy spectra.

Abstract:The reflection from above surface objects is one of the main problems in the ground penetrating radar exploration work. With the random spatial distribution of above surface objects, we need to understand the wave propagation characteristics of interference before identification and removal. This article will achieve this objective and provide theoretical support to the method of interference suppression. We made the FDTD forward modeling first. Some abstract models could be produced by simplifying and summarized. And wave field distributions of the point, line, plane interference sources are simulated in different observing systems. Then, the general expression of time-distance curves of the three different interference sources was derived by using ray theory. The characteristics of these time-distance curves were summarized and analyzed.

Abstract:For aerial target detection,it is highly important to study the radiance of sky background.The model and method for calculating the radiance of sky are set up.The calculating formula is established by layered atmosphere.Combined with the formula,the calculating of absorption and scattering is discussed in detail.The absorption of vapor,carbon dioxide,ozone and the scattering of aerosol are mainly considered.At last,the absorption,the scattering,the transmission,the spectral radiance and the radiance of sky are calculated by typical data,furthermore,the results are compared with MODTRAN.And the features of the sky infrared radiation are analyzed.
An improved model for microwave backscattering including the effects of breaking waves

Abstract:Due to the great important role of wave breaking in microwave backscattering,it is necessary to consider the impact of wave breaking in the scattering model.In this paper,the validity and application scope of KHCC03 model including the impact of wave breaking were investigated.It is shown that the results of KHCC03 model are in a great agreement with the measured data when the incidence angle located in the range of 25°~40°.However,the model results are quite different from those of the measured data when the incidence angle is less than 25° or greater than 40°.To improve this inconsistency,an improved model of KHCC03 is proposed,and the results from the improved model are in a good agreement with those of the measured data.

Abstract:Based on the basic principle of geometrical optics, the transmission of beam is analyzed, a ray tracing method of ghost analysis is mentioned, the mathematical and physical models have been set up for analysis of stray light and ghost images the analysis software has been presented. Taken a design prototype of multi-pass amplifier Laser as an example, the ghost images and energy density of certain key components are established in the system. Various kinds of protective measures to the optical damage are discussed and assessed.

Abstract:We propose an analytical model for the grazing reflection of a narrow beam. For the special incidence condition, the output field is the superposition of the incidence and reflected fields, so the incidence cutoff frequency is defined in the angular spectrum. With the definition, we deduce the effective plane-wave-reflection coefficient, together with angular spectrum of the output field. The model is verified by numerical simulation. Calculation in ordinary linear, nonabsorbing media with this model reveals some remarkable characteristics of the output fields, such as negative lateral shift and a beam-width compression effect. Abstract:This paper analyses the key issue and solution of Compton back-scattering Imaging with detector array firstly. We simulate the size of collimation and scatter function by using of MCNP of the. Monte-Carlo method, and recover the image by deconvolution method. At last, we get good imaging effects.

Abstract:A new method is proposed for determining the backscattering factor using information provided by the background off an direct Auger spectrum N(E). Complicated calculations such as the Monte Carlo method were avoided, and the quantitative Auger analysis accuracy could be further improved since the calculations of backscattering factor was based on the spectra. The examples of determining the compositions of Au-Cu and Ag-Cu alloys are given. These results are compared with that obtained by other mothods.

Abstract:In this paper,a theoretical simulation of light propagation in gradient-index film was proposed.Ray Tracing Algorithm and Monte Carlo simulation method that based on Maxwell's equations are employed.The gradient-index film is assumed to be a combination of multiplayer homogeneous films,whose complex refractive indexes depend on their depth in gradient-index film.The results show the influences on film reflection from particle's density,diameter and the gradient refractive index.It would help us to design a new kind of low-refractive film,and we may use this method to solve the 'light pollution' problem.Advanced researches are also wanted.

Abstract:An improved shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) method based on a modified adaptive division beam tracing is proposed to investigate the radiation problem of complicated and electrically large targets. By applying the improved SBR method, a beam tree is built after the tracing process. Then, we traverse the beam tree and get all the beams that effectively intersect with the target and contribute to the final far field. The proposed method significantly improves the accuracy, especially for the target with multiple reflections. Representative numerical results are given to demonstrate the validity and high accuracy of our proposed method.

Abstract:In the field of nuclear medicine, nuclear security and astrophysics, Compton imaging is a promising technique for gamma-ray source imaging. We are developing a Compton imager using two layers of CdZnTe pixel array detectors. In this paper, the backward-scattering effect within such imagers is numerically studied using Geant4 Monte Carlo Package. From images reconstructed based on forward-scattering and backward-scattering imaging events, the imaging precision was investigated in a comparative analysis, in regard to energy resolution and position resolution. Furthermore, to establish a method to use backward-scattering imaging events properly so that the imaging efficiency can be significantly improved, the difference between reconstruction from forward-scattering and backward-scattering imaging events was analyzed to uncover a causal mechanism.

Abstract:The radiation force calculated in the Rayleigh regime is investigated by comparison with the generalized Lorenz Mie Theory (GLMT). The basic concepts behind the Rayleigh regime and GLMT are introduced, and a numerical simulation is conducted to analyze the difference between these two methods. Several physical parameters are considered to evaluate their effect on the calculation accuracy of the Rayleigh regime, including the particle size, optical wavelength, and beam waist. The numerical results show that the valid region of the Rayleigh regime depends primarily on the ratio of the wavelength and particle size, whereas the Gaussian beam size has a lesser impact on the calculation results for both methods. Our study provides critical conditions under which the Rayleigh regime is applicable. The calculation accuracy of the Rayleigh regime is also theoretically analyzed.

Abstract:In a CCD based neutron radiography system, some fluorescent light will be reflected back to the scintillator by the mirror if the mirror is too close to the scintillator. Some of the incoming neutrons may also be scattered back to the scintillator. These two factors form a strong background that cannot be neglected. This background is harmful to quantitative analysis and CT reconstruction. The analytic calculation of the reflection component as the well as Monte Carlo simulation of the back-scattering component has been carried out, the result of which agrees well with the background measurements. The background component introduced by mirror accounts for more than 10% of the whole background in a typical detection system configuration.

Abstract:In this paper, the expressions for the backscattering radar cross section (RCS) of the hinged model are derived based on the uniform theory of diffraction (UTD). The hinged model is viewed as a cylindrically curved plate combining with two inclined flat plates. The results calculated by the expressions are compared with that computed by the commercial software CST STUDIO SUITE, and they are in good agreement, which verify the accuracy of the expressions. Furthermore, the numerical formulas require less computing resource when advance the backscattering analysis.

Abstract:Because of the limitation of solid angle of detector at the scattering point, it is difficult to achieve the highlighting effect of organic materials in Compton backscatter imaging system with detector array. This paper studies the problem with Monte Carlo simulation method and indicates three solutions including changing the angle of detecting, changing the working mode of detector and selecting the appropriate energy of incident ray. Abstract:The formulas for the pulse length and number of photons of X-ray based on linear Thomson scattering of intense laser beam by highly relativistic electron beam at arbitrary interaction angles are deduced. The effects of position and synchronization error are calculated from these results. Some other nonideal factors, such as energy spread, beam emittance, are also discussed.

Abstract:There are more active researches on X-ray profile gauge with some useful properties including being more adaptive to harsh workplace and more precise when compared to other profile gauges. However, Scatter is a factor that degrades the measurement precision of X-ray profile gauge, the study about scatter correction is an indispensable step for the technology. We take an analytical method to correct it after making a physical model. The results obtained by this approach agree well with those using Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract:In production and scientific research, the research on the characteristics of submicron particles has attracted extensive attention, which is of great significance to the development of industrial production, medical and health inspection and other fields. In this paper, the characteristics of submicron particles are studied based on backlight scattering. By collecting the real-time waveform of the backscattering signal of particles with different particle sizes at different concentrations, the corresponding relationship between the particle concentration and the number of pulses was obtained. It is found that the peak value of the backscattered light energy has a good linear relationship with the particle size. The analysis of the signal distribution law of standard particle swarm with different particle size parameters found that it conformed to the lognormal distribution form.
