Abstract:An error-resilient coding scheme (ERCS), which is used for still color image wireless transmission in industrial environment, is proposed in this paper. The basic idea is to embed a novel error protection mechanism into three-dimensional discrete cosine transform (3-D DCT). In other words, the ERCS provides a method to protect some high energy DCT coefficients. Some experimental results show that the ERCS can achieve a good trade-off between efficient compression performance and high reconstruction quality.

Abstract:An efficient compression scheme for color-quantized images based on progressive coding of color information has been developed. Rather than sorting color indexes into a linear list structure, a binary-tree structure of color indexes is proposed. With this structure the new algorithm can progressively recover an image from 2 colors up to all of the colors contained in the original image, i.e., a lossless recovery achieved. Experimental results show that it can efficiently compress images in both lossy and lossless cases. Typically for color-quantized Lena image with 256 colors, the algorithm achieved 0.5 bpp lower than state-of-the-art lossless compression methods while preserving the efficient lossy compression. Such a compression scheme is very attractive to many applications that require the ability to fast browsing or progressive transmission, and if necessary, to exactly recover the original image.
An Adaptive Weight Value-Based Multi-Scale Retinex Algorithm for Color Image Enhancement

Abstract:There are limited dynamic range problems when real world scenes are captured from a digital camera and displayed on monitors. Retinex is one of the most popular theories for dynamic range compression, color constancy and color rendition. However, there still exist some problems, such as hue shift and excessive noise, especially for those images including large bright areas and dark regions. In order to solve these problems, an adaptive weight value-based multi-scale retinex algorithm is proposed in this paper. Compared to other methods, visual experiments and data evaluation show that the proposed algorithms can achieve better performance for color image enhancement and noise suppression simultaneously. What is more, there is no need for color correction phase in the proposed algorithm, which makes it more efficient and convenient to apply.

Abstract:AbstractThis paper presents a new two‐step color transfer method which includes color mapping and detail preservation. To map source colors to target colors, which are from an image or palette, the proposed similarity‐preserving color mapping algorithm uses the similarities between pixel color and dominant colors as existing algorithms and emphasizes the similarities between source image pixel colors. Detail preservation is performed by an ℒ0 gradient‐preserving algorithm. It relaxes the large gradients of the sparse pixels along color region boundaries and preserves the small gradients of pixels within color regions. The proposed method preserves source image color similarity and image details well. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach has achieved a state‐of‐art visual performance.

Abstract:Real color images are images with noise. The application of gray-scale image enhancement methods in the three-channel of images (R,G,B), on the one hand, increased noise, on the other hand, tended to have a color deviation, which impacted the effect of enhancement. Therefore in view of the difference of human visual system sensitivity of the hue, saturation, luminance and image noise affecting differently on the hue, saturation, and luminance, it proposed a method of image denoised and enhanced in HSV space. In this paper, according to the result of influence of V and S by noise, we transform a real color image from RGB space to HSV space at first, then maintain hue channel unchanged, decompose v channel into high frequency and low frequency information using wavelet transform. And then it directly compresses dynamic range of the j-scale low frequency information based on a new Illumination—Reflectance Model, uses Byes-estimation threshold to denoise in all scale high frequency information. Saturation channel is denoised by some formula from the relationship of S, V and R, G, B. At last, it transforms into a real color images from HSV space to RGB space. Experiments show that image has a good dynamic compression range and slight color deviation, which improve the visual effects and the true effects of color.

In addition , we propose anew method to fix on the cut-off frequency of high-pass filter in homomorphic enhancement algorithm and explain the ratio coefficient of high-pass filter.Experiments show the compression of real-color image dynamic range is obviously effective, and it successes in color rendition.

Abstract:Visual cryptography is a powerful technique that combines the notions of perfect ciphers and secret sharing in cryptography with that of raster graphics. A binary image can be divided into shares that can be stacked together to approximately recover the original image. Unfortunately, it has not been used much primarily because the decryption process entails a severe degradation in image quality in terms of loss of resolution and contrast. Its usage is also hampered by the lack of proper techniques for handling gray-scale and color images. We develop a novel technique that enables visual cryptography of color as well as gray-scale images. With the use of halftoning and a novel microblock encoding scheme, the technique has a unique flexibility that enables a single encryption of a color image but enables three types of decryptions on the same ciphertext. The three different types of decryptions enable the recovery of the image of varying qualities. The physical transparency stacking type of decryption enables the recovery of the traditional visual cryptography quality image. An enhanced stacking technique enables the decryption into a halftone quality image. Finally, a computation-based decryption scheme makes the perfect recovery of the original image possible. Based on this basic scheme, we establish a progressive mechanism to share color images at multiple resolutions. We extract shares from each resolution layer to construct a hierarchical structure; the images of different resolutions can then be restored by stacking the different shared images together. Thus, our technique enables flexible decryption. We implement our technique and present results.

Abstract:Nowadays it has still remained as a big challenge to efficiently compress color images in the encrypted domain. In this paper we present a novel deep-learning-based approach to encryption-then-lossy-compression (ETC) of color images by incorporating the domain knowledge of the encrypted image reconstruction process. In specific, a simple yet effective uniform down-sampling is utilized for lossy compression of images encrypted with a modulo-256 addition, and the task of image reconstruction from an encrypted down-sampled image is then formulated as a problem of constrained super-resolution (SR) reconstruction. A customized residual dense spatial network (RDSN) is proposed to solve the formulated constrained SR task by taking advantage of spatial attention mechanism (SAM), global skip connection (GSC), and uniform down-sampling constraint (UDC) that is specific to an ETC system. Extensive experimental results show that the proposed ETC scheme achieves significant performance improvement compared with other state-of-the-art ETC methods, indicating the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed deep-learning based ETC scheme.

Real Color Image Enhanced by Illumination - Reflectance Model and Wavelet Transformation

Abstract:Because the color restoration functions of real color image enhancement are greatly at random and not proved, and the enhanced real color images which are based on illumination-reflectance model have the loss of details and the 'halos', we proposed a new algorithm to overcome these disadvantages. Firstly, we transform the real color image from RGB space to HSV space which is approximately orthonormal between color and value, and keep the color of image. Secondly, the illumination and the reflectance of value are separated by homomorphic decomposition based on illumination-reflectance model. We have discovered that the high dynamic range of image including high bright lights is mainly caused by the reflectance. Thirdly, the details of reflectance are preserved by wavelet transform. Lastly, the dynamic range of reflectance is compressed by Butterworth filtering. Experiments show that the color of image enhanced is not obviously distorted, the preservation of the details is good and the 'halos' is effectively restrained. Real color image enhanced by the algorithm is much better than the multi-scale Retinex's with color restoration (MSRCR).

Abstract:A method of embedding a color digital watermark into a gray-level image is proposed. By still image compression coding technique, the color digital watermark is encoded into a series of binary ID numbers for watermarking. The algorithm can extract the watermark without the original image because the embedding process is based on the relationship between the discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients of the original image. Experimental results show that the proposed technique is robust against some image processing operations and joint photographic experts group (JPEG) lossy compression.

Each stage of the progression is a lossy compression of the image, with the distortion decreasing in each stage, until the last image is losslessly compressed. Both compressor and decompressor make use of earlier stages to significantly improve the compression of later stages of the progression. Our algorithm uses vector quantization to improve the distortion at the beginning of the progression, and adapts Ziv and Lempel's algorithm to make it efficient for progressive encoding
A Semi-Fragile Blind Watermarking Scheme For Color Images Based On Visual Cryptography And Discrete Cosine Transform

Abstract:This paper presents a semi-fragile blind watermarking scheme for color images based on Visual Cryptography (VC) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). Firstly, the binary watermark image is separated into two shares, i.e., the public share and the private share, by using the VC technique. Then, the color host image is converted from the RGB color space into the HSV color space. Next, the DCT transform is performed on each 8 x 8 block in the V component of the host image. Finally, the public share is embedded into the DCT middle frequency coefficients. During the extraction process, the public share is first extracted, and then it is stacked over the private share to recover the original watermark. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has good invisibility and good robustness to color transform, cropping and JPEG compression operations, but is vulnerable to Gaussian noise, Poisson noise, Speckle noise and Gaussian low-pass filtering attacks.

Abstract:This paper proposes a visual secret sharing scheme for color image encryption with robust and progressive decryption abilities. Robust decryption means the secret content can be still decrypted from shares even the shares are corrupted with intentional or unintentional alterations. In progressive decryption, three levels quality of secret images can be decrypted with the same shares. A lower visual quality secret content can be revealed by stacking shares. A halftone version of secret can be decrypted by simple XOR shares. Furthermore, a nearly lossless version of the secret content can be reconstructed by a decoding procedure. The method is cooperated with data hiding technique which has two functions, one is for encoding some secret content and the other is for embedding some extra information, e.g., permutation key. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2008 IEEE.

Abstract:Encryption of meaningful images into unidentifiable noise-like images can improve the security of images during storage and transmission. In this paper, a novel color image encryption method based on the lifting scheme and cross-component permutation (CIE-LSCP) is introduced. First, original image is divided into red, green and blue components, and then the three components are processed by a preprocessing strategy based on the lifting scheme (PSLS) to change the statistical distribution of the pixels. Second, a block-based cross-component permutation based on index vectors (BCPIV) is presented to divide three preprocessed components into blocks and perform the cross-component permutation operation on them, and three random matrices are utilized to determine the target component, target block and target pixel position of the current pixel to be moved, respectively. Subsequently, a multi stochastic diffusion based on random sequences (MSDRS) is developed to alter the pixel values of the permutated components, and finally a ciphertext image is gotten by merging the three components. Moreover, the SHA256 hash values of the plaintext image are used to obtain the initial parameters of the chaotic system, and the obtained chaotic sequences are applied in the image encryption process. Wherein the generated random sequences are highly reliant on the plaintext image, making the encryption scheme resistant to both known-plaintext attacks and chosen-plaintext attacks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has good security and effectiveness and can be applied for secure transmission of digital images over the Internet.

Abstract:A new and effective improved encoded algorithm based on zero-tree wavelet is proposed,which codes the wavelet coefficients with sorting method according to the Human Visual System(HVS)that we human pay more attention to the edge and flat region of one image than to the texture region.Simulation results show that the algorithm we proposed performs better than that of EZW in image visual quality as the reconstruction image of the improved method has more clear edge because more bits are used to code the coefficients of the edge and flat region.
True Color Image Enhanced by Wavelet Illumination-Reflection Model

Abstract:When a true color image is enhanced, the same hue should be kept and the useful details should be strengthened in the image enhanced. According to the imaging principle, wavelet illumination-reflection method is proposed. Firstly, true color image is transformed from RGB space to HSV space. Secondly, the saturation is attenuated by CLAHE. Thirdly, the value is decomposed into illumination and reflection by wavelet illumination-reflection model. The details of the reflection are strengthened. The dynamic range of the illumination is reduced in order to enhance the image. Experiments and analysis show that the enhancement algorithm based on wavelet illumination-reflection model is obviously better than multi-scales Retinexs with color restoration (MSRCR).

Abstract:This paper completes the construction of FFT (fast Fourier transform) that map integers to integers by using lifting scheme and butterfly-style construction. Through building integer FFT which keeps conjugate symmetry for real signal, and expressing DCT by FFT, invertible integer DCT can be easily gotten, which makes lossless image compression possible. At last, we combine integer DCT with EZW zerotree and STQM arithmetic coding together. Experimental results show this method is quite efficient for progressive until lossless image compression.

Abstract:Based on compressive sensing and double random encryption strategy, a novel color image compression and encryption scheme is proposed in this paper. The architecture of compression, confusion and diffusion is adopted. Firstly, the red, green and blue components of color plain image are converted to three sparse coefficient matrices by discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and then a double random position permutation (DRPP) is introduced to confuse the coefficient matrices. Subsequently, Logistic-Tent system is utilized to generate the asymptotic deterministic random measurement matrix based on chaotic system and plain image (ADMMCP), which is used to measure the coefficient matrices to obtain measurement value matrices. Moreover, simultaneous double random pixel diffusion between inter-intra components (SDRDIC) is presented to modify the elements of measurement value matrices to obtain the final cipher image. A 4-D hyperchaotic system is applied to produce chaotic sequences for confusion and diffusion, the initial conditions of the used chaotic systems are controlled by the SHA 512 hash value of plain image and external keys, such that the proposed image cryptosystem may withstand known-plaintext and chosen-plaintext attacks.
