Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new high-capacity reversible data hiding method for JPEG-compressed images. This method is based on modifying the quantization table and quantized discrete cosine transformation (DCT) coefficients. Some elements of the quantization table are divided by an integer while the corresponding quantized DCT coefficients are multiplied by the same integer and added by an adjustment value to make space for embedding the data. By analyzing the effect of each single quantized DCT coefficient on the image quality, an embedding sequence is chosen in order to help control the increase of file size after hiding the data meanwhile the PSNR value between the original uncompressed image and stego JPEG image is high. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves both high capacity and high image quality.

Abstract:This paper presents a reversible data hiding scheme based on dynamic reference pixel and multi-layer embedding.The proposed algorithm can offer very high embedding capacity and low image degradation,and the exact original cover image can be fully restored after the hidden data extracted without any error.Especially,different from previous works based on histogram shifting,the proposed scheme can recover the original cover image after data extraction with no extra information except the message length and the stego-image itself.Experiments have been conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a lossless data hiding scheme with high embedding capacity, which can recover the original image without any distortion after the hidden data have been extracted. In this scheme, difference value of the adjacent pixels is calculated first. After adjusting the difference slightly, we can increase (decrease) it by 1 or maintain it intact to embed information into the cover image. Experimental results show that the average embedding capacity can be up to 0.91 bpp (bit per pixel) while the PSNR stays larger than 30 dB. Compared with some existing known lossless data hiding schemes, the proposed method provides higher embedding capacity and lower image degradation. Moreover, the presented algorithm is quite simple and the execution time is rather short.

Abstract:In this paper, a lossless data hiding scheme which directly embeds data into the bitstream of JPEG images is presented. For real cases, the JPEG code space is partly occupied, not all variable length codes (VLC) in the Huffman table are used during the JPEG image compression process. Thus, these unused VLCs can be made used of and data hiding can be performed by mapping one or more unused VLCs to one used VLC. Through analyzing the statistics of both used and unused VLCs, the proposed scheme can take full advantage of the unused VLCs by mapping Huffman codes according to a specific mapping strategy and reach higher capacity. The output stego image can keep exactly the same content as the original one and preserve the same file size, and if the file size is allowed to be enlarged, then our scheme can achieve a significant improvement of embedding capacity.

After the difference histogram shifting, a large number of data can be embedded into the cover image, and multi-layer embedding is used to improve the hiding capacity. Different from previous works based on histogram shifting the proposed scheme can extract the hidden data and recover the exact original cover image with no extra information except the length of hidden data and the stego-image itself. Experimental results show that the average pure payload among eight commonly used grayscale images is up to 1.08 bits per pixel (bpp) while keeping low distortion.

Abstract:This paper presents a reversible data hiding scheme. The proposed scheme is based on the difference histogram shifting to spare space for data hiding. Nine basic scan paths are defined, and this means all-directional adjacent pixel differences can be obtained. Due to the fact that the grayscale values of adjacent pixels are close to each other, the all-directional adjacent pixel difference histogram contains a large number of points with equal values. Hence, more data can be embedded into the cover image than previous works based on histogram shifting. Furthermore, multi-layer embedding is used to increase the hiding capacity. In each embedding process, we can embed a large number of data into the cover image by choosing the best scan path and the optimized pixel difference. As experimental results have shown, the cover images are able to embed secret data at an average 12.5% of the size of the original images while all the PSNR values of the stego images remain larger than 30 dB.

Abstract:Lossless data hiding is a data hiding method that embeds secret data without distortion. In JPEG images, it generally refers to modifying the bitstream of the Huffman table and DCT coefficient, also known as the method of Huffman table modification. Currently, most JPEG lossless data hiding methods use coding redundancy in the default AC Huffman table (DAC). However, this preference is deficient in two ways. On the one hand, the Huffman tables of most JPEG images are optimized to save storage and increase transmission speed, causing the approach to be unavailable. In this paper, the embedding efficiency of each Run-Size (RS) has been analyzed, and an efficient mathematical model for the optimized Huffman table is established. On the other hand, current schemes tended to modify the AC Huffman table while ignoring the DC one. This is because the redundancy presented in the DC Huffman table is hard to exploit. In contrast, the Huffman table modification on both optimized AC and DC Huffman tables (OAC, ODC) has been implemented in this paper. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme is superior in embedding capacity, file size preservation, and complexity without distortion compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a lossless data hiding scheme in JPEG images. After quantified DCT transform, coefficients have characteristics that distribution in high frequencies is relatively sparse and absolute values are small. To improve encoding efficiency, we put forward an encoding algorithm that searches for a high frequency as terminate point and recode the coefficients above, so spare space is reserved to embed secret data and appended data with no file expansion. Receiver can obtain terminate point through data analysis, extract additional data and recover original JPEG images lossless. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a larger capacity than state-of-the-art works.

Abstract:A novel reversible data hiding technique for JPEG images is proposed in this paper. Consecutive zeros in the tail of DCT coefficient sequence in each block are exploited to embed a number of secret bits by modifying only one coefficient. Thanks to the efficient data embedding in the DCT coefficients, the proposed scheme can provide a good rate-distortion performance. Also, when having an image containing secret data, one can perfectly recover the original image after extracting the embedded data. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a lossless data hiding method for JPEG images using adaptive embedding. By constructing an optimal mapping between the used and unused Huffman codes in each category, we take full use of the combination of mapping to achieve a high embedding rate. In order to improve the payload, we further use a code reordering based embedding algorithm. Both algorithms are alternatively used during data hiding. After modifying the Huffman Table defined in JPEG header and substituting the codes in entropy-encoded segments, additional messages are embedded into the JPEG bitstream. The proposed method is lossless to the image, Le., the decoded content of a marked JPEG bitstream is identical to the original JPEG image. Meanwhile, the file size can be well preserved after data hiding. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a better performance than state-of-the-art works.

Abstract:Copyright protection and information security have become serious problems due to the ever growing amount of digital data over the Internet. Reversible data hiding is a special type of data hiding technique that guarantees not only the secret data but also the cover media can be reconstructed without any distortion. Traditional schemes are based on spatial, discrete cosine transformation (DCT) and discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) domains. Recently, some vector quantization (VQ) based reversible data hiding schemes have been proposed. This paper proposes an improved reversible data hiding scheme based on VQ-index residual value coding. Experimental results show that our scheme outperforms two recently proposed schemes, namely side-match vector quantization (SMVQ)-based data hiding and modified fast correlation vector quantization (MFCVQ)-based data hiding.

Abstract:This paper proposes a lossless and high payload data hiding scheme for JPEG images by histogram modification. The most in JPEG bitstream consists of a sequence of VLCs (variable length codes) and the appended bits. Each VLC has a corresponding RLV (run/length value) to record the AC/DC coefficients. To achieve lossless data hiding with high payload, we shift the histogram of VLCs and modify the DHT segment to embed data. Since we sort the histogram of VLCs in descending order, the filesize expansion is limited. The paper's key contribution includes: Lossless data hiding, less filesize expansion in identical pay-load and higher embedding efficiency.

Abstract:Data hiding is an important technique for covert communication that embeds secret data into a cover image with minimal perceptible degradation. Lossless data hiding is a special type of data hiding technique that guarantees not only the secret data but the cover media can be reconstructed without any distortion. In this paper, a novel path optional lossless data hiding scheme based on the joint neighboring coding (JNC) of the vector quantization (VQ) index table is proposed. The proposed scheme generates a VQ index table based on the cover image first. Next, according to an initial key and secret data content, different adjacent indices may be chosen to perform joint neighboring coding for each index and hide secret data. Finally, an appropriate output codestream is generated based on the minimal length principle. Our main contributions lie in three aspects: (1) the method combines the novel path_based shift method with the traditional JNC method to improve the capacity and stego image quality simultaneously. (2) The secret data extraction and cover image recovering processes are separated and both can be publicized to users. (3) The method is path optional to meet various users’ requirements. To testify the superiority of the proposed method, we compare it with the side match VQ (SMVQ)-based and modified fast correlation VQ (MFCVQ)-based algorithms. According to the experimental results, the proposed scheme outperforms the SMVQ-based and MFCVQ-based algorithms in four aspects, i.e., hiding capacity, stego image quality, transmission efficiency and security level.

Abstract:As an important branch of information security, information hiding in images has been extensively studied in recent years. However, most schemes will introduce irreversible distortion to the original image. It is unallowable in sonic special applications such as legal imaging and medical imaging. So reversible information hiding deserves us to study. In addition, most existing information hiding schemes are for BMP images and JPEG images. There are few related schemes for JPEG2000 images. So it is very necessary for us to study reversible information hiding for JPEG2000 images. In this paper, we propose a reversible information hiding scheme for JPEG2000 compressed images. In the proposed scheme, high frequency subbands of the cover image are divided into blocks. In each block, the histogram generated by the quantized wavelet coefficients of the block is shifted to create gaps for embedding data. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has satisfactory performance. Compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme has higher embedding capacity and better visual quality of the stego image.

Abstract:The joint photographic experts group (JPEG) is the most popular format of digital image. In this paper, a novel reversible data hiding scheme based on JPEG image is proposed. In JPEG image, quantified DCT (discrete cosine transform) coefficients with different frequencies will yield different capacities and embedding distortions. To reduce the total distortion for the marked image, we select coefficients from frequencies yielding less distortions for embedding, and then an advanced block selection strategy is applied to always modify the block yielding less simulated distortion firstly until the given payloads are completely embedded. Abstract:Data hiding is a form of steganography to embed secret data into digital media for the purpose of content authentication, annotation and copyright protection. Lossless data hiding is a special kind of data hiding technique that guarantees the digital media can be losslessly restored after the secret data are correctly extracted. In the past several years, several reversible data hiding schemes for Vector Quantization (VQ) compressed images have been proposed. Some embed data during the VQ encoding process such as Side -Match VQ (SMVQ)-based and Modified Fast Correlation VQ (MFCVQ)based methods; others embed data during the VQ index streaming process such as the Joint Neighboring Coding (JNC)-based scheme. This paper presents an improved JNC (IJNC) process for both lossless data hiding and lossless index compression. The JNC process performs data hiding on each index outside the seed area, while the proposed IJNC process performs data hiding on each 2x 2 index block without any seed area. Experimental results show that our scheme outperforms three recently proposed schemes, namely JNC-based, SMVQ-based and MFCVQ-based data hiding methods, in terms of the hiding capacity and the stego image quality.

Abstract:With the development of image halftoning techniques and computer networks, a large quantity of digital halftone images are produced and transmitted in the Internet. Meanwhile, hiding data in images becomes a powerful approach for covert communications, copyright protection, owner announcement, content authentication, traitor tracing, etc. This chapter proposes two look-up table based methods to hide data in the cover media of halftone images. Both of them belong to lossless data hiding techniques, i.e., not only the secret data but also the original cover image can be accurately recovered in data extraction when the stego image is intact. Besides, an application example of the proposed method in lossless content authentication is illustrated. Furthermore, a data capacity enhancement strategy is introduced based on a statistical property of error diffused halftone image micro structure.

Abstract:Reversible data hiding has been a hot research topic since both the host media and hidden data can be recovered without distortion. In the past several years, more and more attention has been paid to reversible data hiding schemes for images in compressed formats such as JPEG, JPEG2000, Vector Quantization (VQ) and Block Truncation Coding (BTC). Traditional data hiding schemes in the BTC domain modify the BTC encoding stage or BTC-compressed data according to the secret bits, and they have no ability to reduce the bit rate but may reduce the image quality. This paper presents a novel reversible data hiding scheme for BTC-compressed images by further losslessly encoding the BTC-compressed data according to the secret bits. First, the original BTC technique is performed on the original image to obtain the BTC-compressed data which can be represented by a high mean table, a low mean table and a bitplane sequence. Then, the proposed reversible data hiding scheme is performed on both the high mean table and low mean table. Our hiding scheme is a lossless joint hiding and compression method based on 2 x 2 blocks in mean tables, thus it can not only hide data in mean tables but also reduce the bit rate. Experiments show that our scheme outperforms three existing BTC-based data hiding works, in terms of the bit rate, capacity and efficiency.

Abstract:This paper presents an adaptive reversible information hiding algorithm that can maintain thee JPEG file sizes by using RLC (Run Length Coding) AC coefficient coded for embedding, the key point is to choose the appropriate number of participation to hide information. By calculating the maximum storage capacity of the image at different system, select the appropriate RLC pairs to rotate and embed data. In the extraction stage, by calculating the sequence of the original RLC pairs status, then consult the mapping relationships between the current sequence and the original RLC pairs sequence, we extract the secret message and recover the original image. Test results proved that the proposed method can improve the rate-distortion performance to some extent.
