Abstract:In this paper, we prove the decay and scattering in the energy space for nonlinear Schrodinger equations with regular potentials in R-d namely, i partial derivative(t)u + Delta u-V(x)u + lambda vertical bar u vertical bar(p-1) u=0. We will prove decay estimate and scattering of the solution in the small data case when 1 + 2/d < p <= 1 + 4/d-2, d >= 3. The index 1 + 2/d is sharp for scattering concerning the result of Strauss [22]. This result generalizes the one-dimensional work of Cuccagna et al. [4] to all d >= 3.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the time-oscillating critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation iu(t) + Delta u + theta(omega t)vertical bar u vertical bar(4/n-2)u = 0 in R-n (n >= 3), where theta is a periodic function. We show that, for a given initial condition u(0) = phi in H-1, the solution u(omega) converges as vertical bar omega vertical bar -> infinity to the solution U of the limiting equation iU(t) + Delta U + I(theta)vertical bar U vertical bar U4/n-2 = 0 with the same initial condition, where I(theta) is the average of theta. We also show that if the solution U is global and has a certain decay property, then u(omega) is also global if vertical bar omega vertical bar is sufficiently large. Similar results for the subcritical problem are given by Cazenave and Scialom (2010) [9]. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The Weakly Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation in Higher Dimensions with Quasi-periodic Initial Data

Abstract:In this paper, under the exponential/polynomial decay condition in Fourier space, we prove that the nonlinear solution to the quasi-periodic Cauchy problem for the weakly nonlinear Schrödinger equation in higher dimensions will asymptotically approach the associated linear solution within a specific time scale. The proof is based on a combinatorial analysis method present through diagrams. Our results and methods apply to {\em arbitrary} space dimensions and general power-law nonlinearities of the form $\pm|u|^{2p}u$, where $1\leq p\in\mathbb N$.

Abstract:We consider the linear Schrödinger equation under periodic boundary condition, driven by a random force and damped by a quasilinear damping: $$ \frac{d}{dt}u+i\big(-\Delta+V(x)\big) u=\nu \Big(\Delta u-\gr |u|^{2p}u-i\gi |u|^{2q}u \Big) +\sqrt\nu\, \eta(t,x).\qquad (*) $$ The force $\eta$ is white in time and smooth in $x$. We are concerned with the limiting, as $\nu\to0$, behaviour of its solutions on long time-intervals $0\le t\le\nu^{-1}T$, and with behaviour of these solutions under the double limit $t\to\infty$ and $\nu\to0$. We show that these two limiting behaviours may be described in terms of solutions for the {\it system of effective equations for $(*)$} which is a well posed semilinear stochastic heat equation with a non-local nonlinearity and a smooth additive noise, written in Fourier coefficients. The effective equations do not depend on the Hamiltonian part of the perturbation $-i\gi|u|^{2q}u$ (but depend on the dissipative part $-\gr|u|^{2p}u$). If $p$ is an integer, they may be written explicitly.

Abstract:We investigate the behavior of two coupled non-linear photonic cavities, in presence of inhomogeneous coherent driving and local dissipations. By solving numerically the quantum master equation, either by diagonalizing the Liouvillian superoperator or by using the approximated truncated Wigner approach, we extrapolate the properties of the system in a thermodynamic limit of large photon occupation. When the mean field Gross-Pitaevskii equation predicts a unique parametrically unstable steady-state solution, the open quantum many-body system presents highly non-classical properties and its dynamics exhibits the long lived Josephson-like oscillations typical of dissipative time crystals, as indicated by the presence of purely imaginary eigenvalues in the spectrum of the Liouvillian superoperator in the thermodynamic limit.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with nonlinear Schrödinger equations with a time-decaying harmonic potential. The nonlinearity is gauge-invariant of the long-range critical order. In [24] and [22], it is proved that the equation admits a nontrivial solution that behaves like a free solution with a logarithmic phase correction in the frameworks of both the final state problem and the initial value problem. Furthermore, a modified scattering operator has been established in the case without the potential in [15]. In this paper, we construct a modified scattering operator for our equation by utilizing a generator of the Galilean transformation. Moreover, we remove a restriction for the coefficient of the potential which is required in [22].

Abstract:We investigate the decay estimates of global solutions for a class of one-dimensional inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equations. While most existing results focus on spatial dimensions $d\geq2$, the decay properties in one dimension remain less explored due to the absence of effective Morawetz inequalities. For equations without external potential, by establishing a localized Virial-Morawetz identity, we derive decay estimates in the context of the $L^r$-norm for global solutions within a compact domain as a time subsequence approaches infinity. This decay result can be applied to obtain a criterion for energy scattering. Additionally, by establishing another type of Virial-Morawetz identity under more strict conditions, we demonstrate the decay result for odd solutions for any time sequence that approaches infinity. Utilizing some results about bound states proved by Barry Simon, we also show that similar decay results hold for the global odd solutions of equations with suitable external potentials that contain inverse power type and Yukawa-type potentials.

Abstract: We present a nonperturbative, first-principles numerical approach for time-dependent problems in the framework of quantum field theory. In this approach the time evolution of quantum field systems is treated in real time and at the amplitude level. As a test application, we apply this method to QED and study photon emission from an electron in a strong, time-dependent external field. Coherent superposition of electron acceleration and photon emission is observed in the nonperturbative regime.

Abstract:The paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for second order hyperbolic evolution equations with nonlinear source in a Hilbert space, under the effect of nonlinear time-dependent damping. With the help of the method of weighted energy integral, we obtain explicit decay rate estimates for the solutions of the equation in terms of the damping coefficient and two nonlinear exponents. Specialized to the case of linear, time-independent damping, we recover the corresponding decay rates originally obtained in [3] via a different way. Moreover, examples are given to show how to apply our abstract results to concrete problems concerning damped wave equations, integro-differential damped equations, as well as damped plate equations.

Abstract:The discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\Z^d$, $d \geq 1$ is an example of a dispersive nonlinear wave system. Being a Hamiltonian system that conserves also the $\ell^2(\Z^d)$-norm, the well-posedness of the corresponding Cauchy problem follows for square-summable initial data. In this paper, we prove that the well-posedness continues to hold for much less regular initial data, namely anything that has at most a certain power law growth far away from the origin. The growth condition is loose enough to guarantee that, at least in dimension $d=1$, initial data sampled from any reasonable equilibrium distribution of the defocusing DNLS satisfies it almost surely.

Abstract:In this paper, an eighth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation is investigated in an optical fiber, which can be used to describe the propagation of ultrashort nonlinear pulses. Lax pair and infinitely-many conservation laws are derived to verify the integrability of this equation. Via the Darboux transformation and generalized Darboux transformation, the analytic breather and rogue wave solutions are obtained. Influence of the coefficients of operators in this equation, which represent different order nonlinearity, and the spectral parameter on the propagation and interaction of the breathers and rogue waves is also discussed. We find that (i) the periodic of the breathers decreases as the augment of the spectral parameter; (ii) the coefficients of operators change the compressibility and periodic of the breathers, and can affect the interaction range and temporal–spatial distribution of the rogue waves.

Abstract:In the present work we explore the potential of models of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) type to support spatially localized and temporally quasiperiodic solutions on top of a finite background. Such solutions are rigorously shown to exist in the vicinity of the anti-continuum, vanishing coupling limit of the model. We then use numerical continuation to illustrate their persistence for finite coupling, as well as to explore their spectral stability. We obtain an intricate bifurcation diagram showing a progression of such solutions from simpler ones bearing single- and two-site excitations to more complex, multi-site ones with a direct connection of the branches of the self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinear regime. We further probe the variation of the solutions obtained towards the limit of vanishing frequency for both signs of the nonlinearity. Our analysis is complemented by exploring the dynamics of the solutions via direct numerical simulations.
