Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth, separated, geometrically connected scheme defined over a number field $K$ and $\{\rho_\lambda\}_\lambda$ a system of n-dimensional semisimple $\lambda$-adic representations of the étale fundamental group of $X$ such that for each closed point $x$ of $X$, the specialization $\{\rho_{\lambda,x}\}_\lambda$ is a compatible system of Galois representations under mild local conditions. For almost all $\lambda$, we prove that any type A irreducible subrepresentation of $\rho_\lambda\otimes \bar{\mathbb{Q}}_\ell$ is residually irreducible. When $K$ is totally real or CM, $n\leq 6$, and $\{\rho_\lambda\}_\lambda$ is the compatible system of Galois representations of $K$ attached to a regular algebraic, polarized, cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{A}_K)$, for almost all $\lambda$ we prove that $\rho_\lambda\otimes\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_\ell$ is (i) irreducible and (ii) residually irreducible if in addition $K=\mathbb{Q}$.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a totally real field and $\{\rho_{\pi,\lambda}:\mathrm{Gal}_K\to\mathrm{GL}_n(\overline E_\lambda)\}_\lambda$ the strictly compatible system of $K$ defined over $E$ attached to a regular algebraic polarized cuspidal automorphic representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb A_K)$. Let $\mathbf G_\lambda$ be the algebraic monodromy group of $\rho_{\pi,\lambda}$. If there exists $\lambda_0$ such that (a) $\rho_{\pi,\lambda_0}$ is irreducible, (b) $\mathbf G_{\lambda_0}$ is connected and of type $A_1$, and (c) either at most one basic factor in the exterior tensor decomposition of the tautological representation of $\mathbf G_{\lambda_0}^{\mathrm{der}}$ is $(\mathrm{SL}_2,\mathrm{std})$ or the tautological representation of $\mathbf G_{\lambda_0}^{\mathrm{der}}$ is $(\mathrm{SO}_4,\mathrm{std})$, we prove that $\mathbf G_{\lambda,\mathbb C}\subset\mathrm{GL}_{n, \mathbb C}$ is independent of $\lambda$, $\rho_{\pi,\lambda}$ is irreducible for all $\lambda$ and residually irreducible for almost all $\lambda$. Monodromy of generalized Lame equations with Darboux-Treibich-Verdier potentials: A universal law

Abstract:The Darboux-Treibich-Verdier (DTV) potential $\sum_{k=0}^{3}n_{k}(n_{k}+1)\wp(z+\tfrac{ \omega_{k}}{2};\tau)$ is well-known as doubly-periodic solutions of the stationary KdV hierarchy (Treibich-Verdier, Duke Math. J. {\bf 68} (1992), 217-236). In this paper, we study the generalized Lamé equation with the DTV potential \begin{equation*} y^{\prime \prime }(z)=\bigg[ \sum_{k=0}^{3}n_{k}(n_{k}+1)\wp(z+\tfrac{ \omega_{k}}{2};\tau)+B\bigg] y(z),\quad n_{k}\in \mathbb{N} \end{equation*} from the monodromy aspect. We prove that the map from $(\tau, B)$ to the monodromy data $(r,s)$ satisfies a surprising universal law $d\tau\wedge dB\equiv8\pi^2 dr\wedge ds.$ Our proof applies Panlevé VI equation and modular forms. We also give applications to the algebraic multiplicity of (anti)periodic eigenvalues for the associated Hill operator.

Abstract:In this paper, the third in a series, we continue to study the generalized Lame equation H(n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3); B) with the Darboux-Treibich-Verdier potential y ''(z) = [Sigma(3)(k=0)nk (n(k) + 1) P(z +omega(k)/2 vertical bar + B] y(z), nk is an element of Z >= 0 and a related linear ODE with additional singularities +/- p from the monodromy aspect. We establish the uniqueness of these ODEs with respect to the global monodromy data. Surprisingly, our result shows that the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence from the set {H(n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} boolean OR {H(n(0) + 2, n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} to the set of group representations rho : pi(1)(E-tau) -> SL(2, C) is one-to-one. We emphasize that this result is not trivial at all. There is an example that for tau = 1/2 + i root 3/2, there are B-1, B-2 such that the monodromy representations of H(1, 0, 0, 0; B-1) and H(4, 0, 0, 0; B-2) are the same, namely the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence from the set {H(n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} boolean OR {H(n(0) + 3, n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} to the set of group representations is not necessarily one-to-one. This example shows that our result is completely different from the classical one concerning linear ODEs defined on CP1 with finite singularities.

Abstract:In this article, by studying the Bernstein degrees and Goldie rank polynomials, we establish a comparison between the irreducible representations of G = GL n （C） possessing the minimal Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and those induced from finite-dimensional representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G of type（n-1, 1）. We give the transition matrix between the two bases for the corresponding coherent families.

Abstract:In this paper, the second in a series, we continue to study the generalized Lame equation with the Treibich-Verdier potential y ''(z) = [Sigma(3)(k=0) n(k) (n(k) + 1) (sic)(z + omega k/2 vertical bar tau) + B]y(z), n(k) is an element of Z(>= 0) from the monodromy aspect. We prove the existence of a pre-modular form Z(r,s)(n) (tau) of weight 1/2 Sigma n(k)(n(k) + 1) such that the monodromy data (r, s) is characterized by Z(r,s)(n) (tau) = 0. This generalizes the result in [17], where the Lame case (i.e. n(1) = n(2) = n(3) = 0) was studied by Wang and the third author. As applications, we prove among other things that the following two mean field equations Delta u + e(u) = 16 pi delta(0) and Delta u + e(u) = 8 pi Sigma(3)(k=1) delta(omega k/2) on a flat torus has the same number of even solutions. Abstract: We study the monodromy of the following third order linear differential equation \[y'''(z)-(\alpha\wp(z;\tau)+B)y'(z)+\beta\wp'(z;\tau)y(z)=0,\] where $B\in\mathbb{C}$ is a parameter, $\wp(z;\tau)$ is the Weierstrass $\wp$-function with periods $1$ and $\tau$, and $\alpha,\beta$ are constants such that the local exponents at the singularity $0$ are three distinct integers, denoted by $-n-l, 1-l, n+2l+2$, where $n,l\in\mathbb{N}$. This ODE can be seen as the third order version of the well-known Lam\'{e} equation $y''(z)-(m(m+1)\wp(z;\tau)+B)y(z)=0$. We say that the monodromy is unitary if the monodromy group is conjugate to a subgroup of the unitary group. We show that (i) if $n, l$ are both odd, then the monodromy can not be unitary; (ii) if $n$ is odd and $l$ is even, then there exist finite values of $B$ such that the monodromy is the Klein four-group and hence unitary; (iii) if $n$ is even, then whether there exists $B$ such that the monodromy is unitary depends on the choice of the period $\tau$. We develop different approaches to treat these different cases separately.

Abstract: Let $G$ be a real reductive group in Harish-Chandra's class. We derive some consequences of theory of coherent continuation representations to the counting of irreducible representations of $G$ with a given infinitesimal character and a given bound of the complex associated variety. When $G$ is a real classical group (including the real metaplectic group), we investigate the set of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$, in the sense of Arthur and Barbasch-Vogan. Here $\check{\mathcal O}$ is a nilpotent adjoint orbit in the Langlands dual of $G$ (or the metaplectic dual of $G$ when $G$ is a real metaplectic group). We give a precise count for the number of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{ \mathcal O}$. We also reduce the problem of constructing special unipotent representations attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$ to the case when $\check{\mathcal O}$ is analytically even (equivalently for a real classical group, has good parity in the sense of M{\oe}glin). The paper is the first in a series of two papers on the classification of special unipotent representations of real classical groups.
On A Generalization of Motohashi's Formula

Abstract:We give an adelic version of a spectral reciprocity formula relating $\mathrm{GL}_3 \times \mathrm{GL}_2$ with $\mathrm{GL}_3 \times \mathrm{GL}_1$ and $\mathrm{GL}_1$ moments of $L$-functions discovered by Xiaoqing Li. For many types of the $\mathrm{GL}_3$ representation, we describe the local weight transforms via a decomposition of Voronoi's formula in terms of elementary transforms, which generalizes the one given by Miller--Schmid in a way consistent with the local Langlands correspondence. We obtain some integral representation of the Bessel functions for $\mathrm{GL}_2$ uniformly over all local fields. We announce the dual weight computation in a new case, which identifies the coset problem parallel to that in Petrow--Young's Weyl-type subconvexity for general Dirichlet $L$-functions. The proof and extensive study of other accessible cases will be given in a separate paper.

Abstract:We give a complete characterization of the classical Lam\'e equations $y'' = (n(n + 1)\wp(z) + B)y$, $n \in \Bbb R$, $B \in \Bbb C$ on flat tori $E_\tau = \Bbb C/(\Bbb Z + \Bbb Z\,\tau)$ with finite monodromy groups $M$. Beuker--Waall had shown that such $n$ must lie in a finite number of arithmetic progressions $n_i + \Bbb N \subset \Bbb Q$ and they determined all corresponding $M$. By combining the theory of dessin d'enfants with the geometry of spherical tori, we prove the existence of $(B, \tau)$ for each such $n$ and provide a description of all such $(n, B, \tau, M)$. In particular, for a given $(n, M)$ with $n \not\in \tfrac{1}{2} + \Bbb Z$, we prove the finiteness of $(B, \tau)$ and derive an explicit counting formula of them. (The case $n \in \tfrac{1}{2} + \Bbb Z$ is a classical result due to Brioschi--Halphen--Crawford.) The main ingredients in this work are (1) the definition and classification of basic spherical triangles with finite monodromy and (2) the process of attaching cells corresponding to $n \mapsto n + 1$ which reduces the problem to the basic case.

Abstract:We determine the image of the monodromy map for meromorphic projective structures with poles of orders greater than two. This proves the analogue of a theorem of Gallo-Kapovich-Marden, and answers a question of Allegretti and Bridgeland. Our proof uses coordinates on the moduli space of framed representations arising from the work of Fock and Goncharov.

Abstract:Suppose that the adjusted Brill-Noether number is zero, we prove that there exists a family of twice-marked smooth projective curves such that the family of linear series with two imposed ramification conditions is irreducible. Moreover, under certain conditions, we show that the monodromy group contains the alternating group. In the case $r=1$, the monodromy group is the full symmetric group.

Abstract:We prove the following theorem: Let $\bar\F_p$ be an algebraic closure of a finite field of characteristic $p$. Let $\rho$ be a continuous homomorphism from the absolute Galois group of $\Q$ to $\GL(3,\bar\F_p)$ which is isomorphic to a direct sum of a character and a two-dimensional odd irreducible representation. Under the condition that the conductor of $\rho$ is squarefree, we prove that $\rho$ is attached to a Hecke eigenclass in the homology of an arithmetic subgroup $\Gamma$ of $\GL(3,\Z)$. In addition, we prove that the coefficient module needed is, in fact, predicted by a conjecture of Ash, Doud, Pollack, and Sinnott.

Hamiltonian representation of isomonodromic deformations of general rational connections on $\mathfrak{gl}_2(\mathbb{C})$

Abstract:In this paper, we study and build the Hamiltonian system attached to any $\mathfrak{gl}_2(\mathbb{C})$ meromorphic connection with arbitrary number of non-ramified poles of arbitrary degrees. In particular, we propose the Lax pairs and Hamiltonian evolutions expressed in terms of irregular times and monodromies associated to the poles as well as $g$ Darboux coordinates defined as the apparent singularities arising in the oper gauge. Moreover, we also provide a reduction of the isomonodromic deformations to a subset of $g$ non-trivial isomonodromic deformations. This reduction is equivalent to a map reducing the set of irregular times to only $g$ non-trivial isomonodromic times. We apply our construction to all cases where the associated spectral curve has genus 1 and recover the standard Painlevé equations. We finally make the connection with the topological recursion and the quantization of classical spectral curve from this perspective.

Abstract:The generalized Verlinde formulae expressing traces of mapping classes corresponding to automorphisms of certain Riemann surfaces, and the congruence relations on allowed modular representations following from them are presented. The surfaces considered are families of algebraic curves given by suitably chosen equations, the modular curve $\mathcal{X}(11)$, and a factor curve of $\mathcal{X}(8)$. The examples of modular curves illustrate how the study of arithmetic properties of suitable modular representations can be used to gain information on automorphic properties of Riemann surfaces.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over the complex numbers and let $T\subset G$ be a maximal torus. For any $t\in T$ of finite order and any irreducible representation $V(\lambda)$ of $G$ of highest weight $\lambda$, we determine the character $ch(t, V(\lambda))$ by using the Lefschetz Trace Formula due to Atiyah-Singer and explicitly determining the connected components and their normal bundles of the fixed point subvariety $(G/P)^t\subset G/P$ (for any parabolic subgroup $P$). This together with Wirtinger's theorem gives an asymptotic formula for $ch(t, V(n\lambda))$ when $n$ goes to infinity.
