Abstract:We show that a C*-algebra is a 1-separably injective Banach space if and only if it is linearly isometric to the Banach space C_0(Ω) of complex continuous functions vanishing at infinity on a substonean locally compact Hausdorff space Ω .

Abstract:It is proved that for every compact metric space $K$ there exists a Banach space $X$ whose Calkin algebra $\mathcal{L}(X)/\mathcal{K}(X)$ is homomorphically isometric to $C(K)$. This is achieved by appropriately modifying the Bourgain-Delbaen $\mathscr{L}_\infty$-space of Argyros and Haydon in such a manner that sufficiently many diagonal operators on this space are bounded.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with two weaker forms of injectivity which turn out to have a rich structure behind: separable injectivity and universal separable injectivity. We show several structural and stability properties of these classes of Banach spaces. We provide natural examples of (universally) separably injective spaces, including $\mathcal L_\infty$ ultraproducts built over countably incomplete ultrafilters, in spite of the fact that these ultraproducts are never injective. We obtain two fundamental characterizations of universally separably injective spaces: a) A Banach space $E$ is universally separably injective if and only if every separable subspace is contained in a copy of $\ell_\infty$ inside $E$. b) A Banach space $E$ is universally separably injective if and only if for every separable space $S$ one has $\Ext(\ell_\infty/S, E)=0$. The final Section of the paper focuses on special properties of 1-separably injective spaces. Lindenstrauss\ obtained in the middle sixties a result that can be understood as a proof that, under the continuum hypothesis, 1-separably injective spaces are 1-universally separably injective; he left open the question in {\sf ZFC}. We construct a consistent example of a Banach space of type $C(K)$ which is 1-separably injective but not 1-universally separably injective. We show that, under the continuum hypothesis, "to be universally separably injective" is not a $3$-space property, as we wrongly claimed in the paper mentioned in the title.

Abstract:We give an example of an exact, stably finite, simple. separable C*-algebra D which is not isomorphic to its opposite algebra. Moreover, D has the following additional properties. It is stably finite, approximately divisible, has real rank zero and stable rank one, has a unique tracial state, and the order on projections over D is determined by traces. It also absorbs the Jiang-Su algebra Z, and in fact absorbs the 3^{\infty} UHF algebra. We can also explicitly compute the K-theory of D, namely K_0 (D) = Z[1/3] with the standard order, and K_1 (D) = 0, as well as the Cuntz semigroup of D.

Abstract:It is well-known that every commutative separable unital C*-algebra of real rank zero is a quotient of the C*-algebra of all compex continous functions defined on the Cantor cube. We prove a non-commutative version of this result by showing that the class of all separable unital C*-algebras of real rank zero concides with the class of quotients of a certain separable unital C*-algebra of real-rank zero.

Abstract:A Banach space characterization of simple real or complex $C^*$-algebras is given which even characterizes the underlying field. As an application, it is shown that if $\mathfrak A_1$ and $\mathfrak A_2$ are Birkhoff-James isomorphic simple $C^*$-algebras over the fields $\mathbb F_1$ and $\mathbb F_2$, respectively and if $\mathfrak A_1$ is finite-dimensional with dimension greater than one, then $\mathbb F_1=\mathbb F_2$ and $\mathfrak A_1$ and $\mathfrak A_2$ are (isometrically) $\ast$-isomorphic $C^*$-algebras.

Abstract:Recent developments in Banach space theory provided unexpected examples of unital Banach algebras that are isomorphic to Calkin algebras of Banach spaces, however no example of a unital Banach algebra that cannot be realised as a~Calkin algebra has been found so far. This naturally led to the question of possible limitations of such assignments. In the present note we provide examples of unital Banach algebras meeting the necessary density condition for being the Calkin algebra of a separable Banach space that are not isomorphic to Calkin algebras of such spaces, nonetheless. The examples may be found of the form $C(X)$ for a compact space $X$, $\ell_1(G)$ for some torsion-free Abelian group, and a~simple, unital AF $C^*$-algebra. Extensions to higher densities are also presented.

Phys., 402 (2023), 169–212) proved that every connected (i.e., haploid) Frobenius algebra in a tensor C$ ^* $-category is unitarizable (i.e., isomorphic to a special C$ ^* $-Frobenius algebra). Building on this result, we extend it to the non-connected case by showing that an algebra in a multitensor C$ ^* $-category is unitarizable if and only if it is separable.

Abstract:We will introduce the countable separation property (CSP) of Banach spaces X, which is defined as follows: For each subset \mathcal{F} of X^{\ast}, which separates X, there exists a countable separating subset \mathcal{F}_{0} of \mathcal{F}. All separable Banach spaces have CSP and plenty of examples of non-separable CSP spaces are provided. Connections of CSP with Markucevic-bases, Corson property and related geometric issues are discussed.

Abstract:We present a classification theorem for separable amenable simple stably projectionless C∗-algebras with finite nuclear dimension whose K0 vanish on traces which satisfy the Universal Coefficient Theorem. One of C∗-algebras in the class is denoted by Z0 which has a unique tracial state, K0(Z0)=Z and K1(Z0)={0}. Let A and B be two separable amenable simple C∗-algebras satisfying the UCT. We show that A⊗Z0≅B⊗Z0 if and only if Ell(A⊗Z0)=Ell(B⊗Z0). A class of simple separable C∗-algebras which are approximately sub-homogeneous whose spectra having bounded dimension is shown to exhaust all possible Elliott invariant for C∗-algebras of the form A⊗Z0, where A is any finite separable simple amenable C∗-algebras.

Abstract:We prove that several classical Banach space properties are equivalent to separability for the class of Lipschitz-free spaces, including Corson's property ($\mathcal{C}$), Talponen's Countable Separation Property, or being a Gâteaux differentiability space. On the other hand, we single out more general properties where this equivalence fails. In particular, the question whether the duals of non-separable Lipschitz-free spaces have a weak$^*$ sequentially compact ball is undecidable in ZFC. Finally, we provide an example of a nonseparable dual Lipschitz-free space that fails the Radon-Nikodým property.

Abstract:We study the range of a classifiable class A of unital separable simple amenable C∗-algebras which satisfy the Universal Coefficient Theorem. The class A contains all unital simple AH-algebras. We show that all unital simple inductive limits of dimension drop circle C∗-algebras are also in the class. This unifies some of the previous known classification results for unital simple amenable C∗-algebras. We also show that there are many other C∗-algebras in the class. We prove that, for any partially ordered simple weakly unperforated rationally Riesz group G0 with order unit u, any countable abelian group G1, any metrizable Choquet simplex S, and any surjective affine continuous map r:S→Su(G0) (where Su(G0) is the state space of G0) which preserves extremal points, there exists one and only one (up to isomorphism) unital separable simple amenable C∗-algebra A in the classifiable class A such that((K0(A),K0(A)+,[1A]),K1(A),T(A),λA)=((G0,(G0)+,u),G1,S,r).
