Abstract:Parameter calibration of a ductile fracture criterion determines the prediction accuracy of fracture initiation and propagation in the metal forming process. Methods with various levels of different efficiency and accuracy can be used for parameter calibration. Therefore, in this study, we discussed and analyzed four parameter calibration methods. Whereas two of these methods are based on inverse analysis, the other two are based on analytical methodology. The computational time of the inverse analysis methods is much higher than that of the analytical methods. In addition, the result of an inverse analysis can easily be a local optimum, resulting in large errors for some specific tests. Regarding the analytical methods, the surface-fitting method has a poorer accuracy compared with the integral of fracture threshold value method, likely because of the introduction of average-fracture-related state variables as the inputs of the calibration process.
