Abstract:The atmospheric residue from Kalamayi Refinery was hydrocracked in a batch autocalve in the presence of an oil-soluble catalyst. The reaction products was separated into IBP～180?℃,180?℃～360?℃,360?℃～500?℃ and 500?℃. The total nitrogen was determined by boat-inlet chemiluminescence. The basic nitrogen in each fraction was determined by non-aqueous potentiometric titration. The effects of catalyst concentration, reaction temperature, reaction time on nitrogen distribution in products of slurry-bed hydrocracking of the the residue were studied. It shown that, the basic nitrogen and total nitrogen in the products were mainly concentrated into 500?℃ residue. Only about 10% of the basic nitrogen and total nitrogen were in gasoline and diesel oil. On the other hand, the ratio of the basic nitrogen to the total nitrogen in the fraction depended on the boiling point of the fraction and decreased from about 50% in gasoline to about 30% in cracked residue.

Abstract:The chemical composition of nitrogen compounds in the vacuum residues (Kalamayi atmospheric residue, KLAR), the distribution of nitrogen types, and thermal conversion of nitrogen compounds were studied. With reaction temperature increasing, the yield of gas and all liquid distillates increased gradually. Basic nitrogen yield (Nbf) of VGO and cracked residue was lower than total nitrogen yield (Ntf) in corresponding fractions. There were < 20% basic nitrogen content and total nitrogen content transformed to gasoline and diesel oil. With reaction temperature increasing, both Nbf and Ntf increased. Cracking conversion of KLAR was far more than the yields of basic nitrogen yield in < 500°C fraction and total nitrogen. The Nbf in < 500°C fraction was a little higher than the Ntf in < 500°C fractions corresponding.
Effect of Catalyst on Distribution of Nitrogen in Products from Residue Hydrocracking

Abstract:Hydrocracking of atmospheric residue was carried out in a slurry bed. The residue was produced from thick oil originated in Tahe oil field. Effects of catalyst type and content on distribution of nitrogen in the products were investigated. Basic nitrogen and total nitrogen in products were measured by non-aqueous potentiometric titration and chemiluminescence methods. Under same condition, basic nitrogen and total nitrogen contents increase rapidly with raising of fraction boiling point, but increment of total nitrogen content is more rapid than that of basic nitrogen content. Using iron naphthenate as catalyst, to same fraction of the product, contents of basic nitrogen and total nitrogen are both lower than those using molybdenum dialkyldithiocarbamate as catalyst. For the same catalyst, basic nitrogen and total nitrogen content in gasoline and diesel oil have maximum values with catalyst content increasing but in cracked residue the two nitrogen contents decrease. In vacuum gas oil and cracked residue, the mass ratio of basic nitrogen to total nitrogen is 0. 300 -0. 390.

Abstract:As a novel trend, solid carbon sources are applied to act as electron donors and biofilm carrier in biological denitrification process. In this study, simultaneous nitrate and ammonium removal process in an airlift sequencing batch reactor using 3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) as carbon source and biofilm carrier under intermittent aeration conditions was established to treat effluent of synthetic marine recirculating aquaculture system. The results showed that maximum nitrate and ammonia nitrogen removal rates of 0.45 and 0.09 kg m- 3 d-1 were achieved. No significant nitrite accumulation was found during 200-day operation, while effluent dissolved organic carbon accumulation and particle size reduction significantly increased. Microbial community analysis and batch tests illuminate that the generated sludge and attached biofilm played important roles in nitrogen removal. This study demonstrates the potential mechanism for the nitrogen removal process mediated by 3-hydroxybutyrateco-3-hydroxyvalerate and provide a new idea for the alternative solutions of solid carbon sources.

Abstract:As massive amount of solid residue is produced from plasma pyrolysis of coal, reasonable use of such residue is significant in protecting environment and improving economic performance. This work is focusing on the fundamental research of the characteristics of coal-water slurry (CWS) prepared from the solid residue of plasma pyrolysis of coal. The effect of particle size, solid concentration, pH and temperature on the rheological properties of CWS is investigated. Shear-thinning behavior of suspension has been observed depending on component content and operating conditions. Static stability is also investigated by sedimentation test. Abstract:Effects on the nitrogen removal from low C/N ratio and high ammonia content wastewater through nitrosofication and nitrification pathway are compared and analyzed based on the experiments.The results show that nitrosofication can markedly increase total nitrogen removal efficiency and nearly double the loading of NH3-N and NO3-N.Besides,pH value and ammonia concentration of wastewater affect the nitrogen removal mechanism in the aerobic tank.

Abstract:Biogas slurry (BS) has been widely used as an organic fertilizer in rice paddy fields in China, with potential impacts on the diversity and activity of many biogeochemically important microbial communities. Among these communities, denitrifiers play a significant role in nitrogen (N) transformation and loss in such ecosystems. Here, we examined the abundance, diversity, and community composition of nirS- and nirK-type denitrifiers in paddy soils after long-term application of BS with different N contents using quantitative PCR and high-throughput sequencing. The experiment included four treatments: 1) mineral fertilizer with 270 kg N ha-1; 2) BS with 270 kg N ha-1; 3) BS with 405 kg N ha-1; and 4) BS with 540 kg N ha-1. Our results showed that BS application increased the soil nitrite reductase (NIR) activity by 5.9-27.5 % compared to mineral fertilizer application. Higher nirS gene abundance was observed in BS fertilized soils with increasing N content and was significantly correlated with NIR activity, but nirK gene abundance did not change with different fertilization intensities. Biogas slurry as a substitute for mineral fertilizer significantly decreased the alpha-diversity of only nirS-type denitrifiers at low application rate, but such negative effect was offset by increasing BS fertilization intensity. The community compositions of both nirS- and nirK-type denitrifiers shifted following changes in fertilizer type or intensity, and were significantly influenced by soil organic carbon (SOC), available phosphorus (AP), zinc (for both groups), and copper (for only nirK-type denitrifiers). The structural equation model indicated that the differences in soil NIR activity were mainly explained by SOC, AP, Zn, and the nirS-type denitrifier communities. Sulfurifustis, Thiobaclillus, Microvirgula and Duganella appeared to be the main genera governing NIR activity in the studied paddy fields. In conclusion, increasing BS application intensity can greatly alter the abundance and structure of the nirS-type denitrifying communities, and to a lesser extent, those of the nirK-type denitrifiers in paddy soils.

Abstract:The impact of additional catalyst types and concentration on nitrogen distribution in Tahe atmos- phere residue slurry-bed hydrocracking products has been investigated by adding the acidic catalysts (USY, HY) and alkali catalysts (CaO, MgO) of different acidities and alkalinities into atmospheric residue for the slurry-bed hydrocracking reaction and separating the reaction products into IBP-180℃, 180-360℃, 360-500℃and >500℃unconverted oil fractions in the atmospheric-vacuum distillation unit. The study reveals that the additional catalysts, whether they are acidic or alkali, will accelerate the cracking reaction. The transformation performances of basic nitrogen (Nbf) and total nitrogen (Ntf) are very close. Both acidic catalysts and alkali catalysts have little effect on basic nitrogen and total nitrogen in the products, which indicates that the basic nitrogen and total nitrogen have no obvious selectivity in transformation.

Abstract:The disposal of the product is a key process in the Wet Flue Gas Desulfuration(WFGD). The slurry jet WFGD system in Nan Ning Smelting Plant adopted the forced oxidizing CaSO 3 on the spot and dewatering by the vacuum filter. The experiment investigated the oxidation rate in the absorbing tank, tested and compared the slurries whose dewatering properties were different.The result showed that residual CaSO 3 affected the slurry dewatering. To improve the quality of the gypsum, enhancing the oxidation in the absorbing tank is a right choice.

Abstract:To understand the effect of a CO 2 atmosphere on the properties of the transformation from fuel-N to NO x precursors (mainly NH 3 and HCN),pyrolysis experiment on Pingliang coal (PL coal),wheat straw and their corresponding blends was carried out in a fluidized bed reactor within a temperature range of 750°C to 850°C.The results indicated that the PL coal and wheat straw show different NO x precursor formation properties owing to the discrepancy between the N-containing structures in the raw materials.Compared with an argon atmosphere,CO 2 can effectively suppress the formation of NH 3 .For HCN,the HCN yield of PL coal is suppressed and the HCN yield of wheat straw is promoted.Furthermore,CO 2 can suppress the overall nitrogen conversion rate of NH 3 +HCN for both coal and biomass,which causes more fuel-N to convert into tar-N and N 2 -N.For the blends of PL coal and wheat straw,the copyrolysis synergistic effect of coal/biomass influences the selectivity of HCN and NH 3 .The copyrolysis synergistic effect favors the formation of copyrolyzed HCN but has an opposite impact on the transformation from fuel-N to NH 3 .The synergistic effect of coal/biomass promotes the overall nitrogen conversion rate of NH 3 +HCN under a CO 2 atmosphere,and the overall nitrogen conversion rate of NH 3 +HCN is suppressed under an argon atmosphere,conversely.In addition,the synergistic effect of coal/biomass suppresses the yield of environmentally harmless N 2 ,and more fuel-N was retained in the char.

Abstract:A upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactor was used as anammox reactor to start the reaction with synthetic medium containing ammonium and nitrite. The nitrification was studied in a contact bioreactor with synthetic medium as influent. The novel biological nitrogen removal system was combined with the nitrification process and the anammox process. In this system, average removal rates of ammonium and nitrite volumetric were 474 mg L -1 d -1 and 505 mg L -1 d -1 , respectively. The total nitrogen loading removal rate could reach 1577 mg L -1 d -1 . The novel nitrogen removal system exhibited a great application in the treatment of the wastewater containing ammonium of high concentration.

Abstract:Colloidal stability of Kelamay atmospheric residue(KLAR) during slurry-bed hydro-cracking reaction under the condition of different reaction time and temperature was studied by mass fraction normalized conductivity method,and the Yen T F colloidal structure model of residue was confirmed.It shows that the colloidal stability of KLAR during slurry-bed hydro-cracking reaction decreases rapidly in induction period of coke formation and then the decrease slows down after induction period of coke formation;when the reaction temperature rises,the colloidal stability of KLAR during slurry-bed hydrocracking reaction decreases.The reason for change of colloidal stability was explored through the measurement of group composition mass fractions and average relative molecular mass of reaction products in different time.The researches show that the contents of saturates and light aromatic increases,the content of resin decreases and the relative molecular mass of maltene decreases as the reaction progress;on the other hand,the group composition mass fraction and average relative molecular mass of asphaltene increase until coke formation occurred and then decrease.These changes jointly cause the deterioration of colloidal stability during slurry-bed hydro-cracking of residue and make the colloidal stability decrease.
Residue Upgrading in Slurry Phase over Ultra-fine NiMo/gamma-Al2O3 Catalyst

Abstract:In this article, residual oil hydroconversion was studied in slurry phase in the presence of fine solid NiMo/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst and the effects of operating conditions were carefully studied. The results showed that residue conversion was only affected by the reaction temperature and reaction time. The coke yield increased with a higher reaction temperature, a bigger catalyst particle size, a longer reaction time, a lower initial hydrogen pressure and a lower catalyst concentration. Heteroatoms removal rate increased with a higher reaction temperature, a longer reaction time, a higher initial hydrogen pressure, a higher catalyst concentration, and a smaller catalyst particle size. The role of catalyst in the slurry bed technology was discussed and its function could be stated as follows: the metal was applied to activate the hydrogen atoms for removing heteroatoms and saturating aromatics, while the support of the catalyst was used to prevent the mesophase coalescence for reducing coke formation.

Abstract:The study on the impact factors of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) in the Carrousel oxidation ditch was carried out based on pilot-scale to treat low C/N urban sewage. With the effect of SND in the oxidation ditch, the system could achieve the best removal for nitrogen of urban sewage with low C/N. And with SRT of 20 d, R of 50%, MLSS of 4000 mg/L, the ammonia, total nitrogen (TN) of effluent were lower than 5 mg/L, 13 mg/L, respectively. Based on this the kinetics model of TN removal was established, which could control the concentration of TN in the effluent effectively by adjusting HRT, MLSS and other parameters in the oxidation ditch, which would provide effective theory basis for optimization and adjustment of the process.

Abstract:Nitrogen removal from agricultural surface runoff is of great significance to protect the water quality and safety of groundwater and drinking water. The denitrification bioreactor uses wood-particle products and municipal sludge as solid carbon sources to treat agricultural surface runoff and the rule of total nitrogen produced by wood-particle products is still blank. In this study, a type of denitrification bioreactor with municipal sludge (MS) and Cunninghamia lanceolata sawdust (CLS) as solid carbon source to denitrify simulated agricultural surface runoff is designed. Results show that CLS can release approximately 0.86 ± 0.06 mg L−1 of nitrogen into the water, and the release process conforms to Non-Fickian transport (n = 0.46). The addition of MS is beneficial to increase the average degradation rate of NH4+-N (70.94%). Increasing the inflow rate is beneficial to increase the average degradation rate of NO2−-N, NO3−-N and TN. When the influent flow is 1.34 mL min−1, the average degradation rate of NO2−-N is as high as 61.61% while of TN is 86.04% in the CLS horizontal flow denitrification bioreactor. The average degradation rate of NO3−-N of CLS and MS (sludge-water volume ratio = 1:2) folded plate denitrification bioreactor is 95.72%, which is 17.46% higher than the horizontal flow type. Based on the principle of cleaner production, this study recycles waste CLS and MS as solid carbon sources in the bioreactor to continuously treat and simulate agricultural surface runoff. The device can not only degrade high-concentration nitrogen, but also prevent the generation of waste and waste of energy, which is a new surface runoff pollution control technology.

Abstract:Pyrolysis tests in the range of(600°C) to(1200°C),in an argon atmosphere,of residues of Shenhua coal liquification were performed with a fixed bed pyrolytic reactor.The excretion of Tar-N,HCN-N,NH_3-N,Char-N as well as the distribution of Nitrogen in the Nitrogen containing fuel has hereby been studied.It was found that the yield of NH_3 reached a maximum at about(1000°C),whereafter some reduction was noticed;that of HCN-N increased continuously with the pyrolysis temperature,while the Char-N content exhibited a contrary tendency.In the whole temperature range,the excretion of Tar-N was relatively small,and didn't change with temperature.Simultaneously,comparison of test results performed with nitrogen containing fuel particles of three different sizes showed,that particle size has but a small influence on the excretion of nitrogen containing components.Tests conducted with four different process durations showed that the release of HCN-N proceeds quicker than that of NH_3.Figs 6,table 1 and refs 9.

Abstract:Carbon sources are an important parameter in wastewater treatment processes and are closely related to treatment efficiency and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. In this study, three parallel sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) were processed with acetic acid, propionic acid, and a 1:1 mixture of both acids (calculated in COD) to study the effect of carbon sources on N2O generation and sludge properties (including intracellular polymer content, extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) composition, particle size distribution, settleability, and microbial community structure). The results showed that the highest COD, NH4+-N, and TP removal efficiencies (92.2%, 100%, and 82.3%, respectively) were achieved by the reactor with mixed acid as the carbon source, whereas the reactor using acetic acid had the highest TN removal rate (82.6%) and the lowest N2O–N conversion rate (1.4%, based on TN removal). The reactor with the carbon source of mixed acid produced the highest polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) content, which led to an increase in N2O generation from the aerobic denitrification pathway. The SBR with mixed acid carbon source also had the highest concentration of EPS, which resulted in the largest particle size and the lowest settleability of sludge flocs among the SBRs. Microbial analysis results revealed that the difference in carbon sources resulted in a variation in the microbial community as well as in the relative abundances of functional microbes involved in biological nitrogen removal processes. The mixed acid promoted the development of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), which conducted the primary N2O generation pathway of aerobic denitrification bioreactions. The carbon source of acetic acid promoted the growth of denitrifying bacteria (DNB), which led to the highest TN removal rate. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the effects of carbon sources on N2O generation and sludge properties for WWTPs.
