Abstract:Objective To explore health education on iron-fortified soy sauce(FeSS) and test the feasibility and effectiveness.Methods A community-based intervention trial was coducted among four groups of people,experimental group and control group in rural areas,and those in urban areas,respectively.There were about 200 persons in each group.Health education on FeSS through interpersonal communication was implemented in experimental communities by lecture,IEC materials,free FeSS gifts.Results The effectiveness of health education was obvious in the aspects of diminishing worries about FeSS(overcoming barriers)and enhancing intention,and the net effect of increasing rates were 5%～25%.As for behavior,new buyers in rural and urban intervention groups increased by nearly 15% and 25% more than those in control groups.More than 90% of participants enjoyed the education activities.Conclusion Health education of FeSS through interpersonal communication is feasible and effective in rural and urban areas in Beijing.The strategy of health education may be extended to other similar areas.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the application effect of iron dextran oral liquid(IDOL) on pediatric nutritional iron deficiency(PNID) therapy. Methods 70 cases of PNID children who were admitted into our hospital from Sept. 2010 to Sept. 2013 were selected and divided into experimental group(35 cases) which treated with IDOL and control group which treated with ferrous sulfate oral liquid(35 cases), then compare the comprehensive effect of two groups. Results After the treatment, the total effective rate of experimental group was obviously higher than control group(P 0.05), and the Hb, MCV, MCHC of experimental group was also obviously higher than control group(P 0.05). Conclusion IDOL has a good effect on pediatric PNID, and it worth to be promoted in clinical.

Abstract:We report on the results of a randomised controlled trial conducted among over 2,000 children in 60 elementary schools in rural Shaanxi Province, North-west China. We find that providing children with daily iron supplements for six months improved children's haemoglobin levels and standardised maths scores. In comparison, educating parents about nutrition and anaemia in a special parents meeting produced a modest impact on children's haemoglobin levels. We also find heterogeneous intervention effects by children's gender, anaemia status and boarding status. Overall, iron supplementation is more effective. However, given its low cost and simple implementation, parental education should still be considered.

Abstract:Objective To understand the status of nutritional intake of boarding senior high school students of minor nations in Shanghai, to provide scientific basis for the couter measures of prevention and cure. Adopting the method of recording and weigh the diet of students in 24 hours for 7 successive days in a boarding senior high school with students of minor nations, as well as making a survey of nutritional knowledge of students and carrying out biochemical tests of students in laboratory. The quantity of heat and protein intake could satisfy the physiological needs,the quantity of high quality protein intake was normal,but the quantity of fat intake was 452% of RNI for male students and 376% for female students and the quantity of vegetables and fruit intake was 43.6% for boys and 35.6% for girls. The quantity of calcium, iron, zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C intake were insufficient. The rate of iron deficiency anemia in girls was apparently higher than that of the boys. The rate of knowing Chinese DRIs and the rate of inculcation of the nutritive knowledge in the health education lessons were both less than 20%. [Conclusion] Dietary structure of the boarding students was not reasanable. There is danger of calcium, iron, zinc and vitamin A deficiency for 50% of students accepting the survey. 50% of the girl students had danger of iron and vitamin C deficiency. The related department should pay more attention to this problem, to strengthen the education on nutrition, and reach the goal of serving balanced diet with reasonable nutrition.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the prevalence of anemia and its proportions of seriousness in the primary and secondary students in China,and to provide bases for the prevention of adolescents' anemia.Methods Subjects were Han students aged 7,9,12,14 and 17 years from the 2005 Chinese National Survey on Student's Constitution and Health.WHO criteria for screening anemia(1972) was used,and the proportion rates of marginal,mild,moderate/serious among the populations were analyzed.Results The prevalence of anemia among Chinese students had swiftly down to the "mild level" according to WHO's definition of epidemic anemia,but many problems still existed.The prevalence was higher in the rural populations than that in the urban ones,and significantly higher in girls than in boys.Young primary students,with high prevalence and relative serious degree,were the highest risk groups of anemia.Conclusion Marginal anemia has become the main body of patients.However,there is a lot of work to do for improving the iron-storage and nutrition status of the Chinese students.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To assess the effectiveness of social mobilization and social marketing in promoting NaFeEDTA-fortified soy sauce in an iron deficient population.METHOD:This study was an uncontrolled, community-based, before-after study, which was implemented in three counties of Shijiazhuang Municipality. The intervention was a social mobilization and social marketing strategy. Adult women older than 20 years of age participated in the evaluation protocol. The main outcomes included KAP relevant to IDA. Cross-sectional samples were used to assess the outcomes at baseline and 1 year later.RESULTS:Knowledge and attitudes of adult women had changed positively, and the percentage of women who had adopted NaFeEDTA-fortified soy sauce increased from 8.9% to 36.6% (P < 0.001).CONCLUSION:Social mobilization and social marketing had a positive impact on the KAP of adult women in the iron deficient population.

Abstract:Objective: The present pilot project aimed to assess the effectiveness of social mobilization and social marketing in improving knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) and Fe Status in an Fe-deficient Population.Design: In an uncontrolled, before-after, community-based study, social mobilization and social marketing strategies were applied. The main outcomes included KAP and Hb level and were measured at baseline, 1 year later and 2 years later.Setting: One urban County and two rural Counties in Shijiazhuang Municipality, Hebei Province, China.Subjects: Adult women older than 20 years of age and Young children aged from 3 to 7 years were selected from three counties to attend the evaluation protocol.Results: After I year, most knowledge and attitudes had changed positively towards the prevention and control of anaemia. The percentage of women who had adopted NaFeEDTA-fortified soya sauce increased from 8.9% to 36.6% (P <= 0.001). After 2 years, Hb levels had increased substantially, by 9.0g/l (P <= 0.001) in adult women and 7.7g/l (P <= 0.001) in Young children.Conclusion: Social mobilization and social marketing activities had a positive impact on the KAP of adult women, and resulted in marked improvements in Hb levels in both adult women and Young children. This should be recommended as a national preventive strategy to prevent and control Fe deficiency and Fe-deficiency anaemia.
Nutrition and Educational Performance in Rural China’s Elementary Schools: Results of a Randomized Control Trial in Shaanxi Province

Abstract:Background: Despite growing wealth and a strengthening commitment from the government to provide quality education, a significant share of students across rural China still have inadequate access to micronutrient-rich regular diets. Such poor diets can lead to nutritional problems, such as iron-deficiency anemia, that can adversely affect attention and learning in school.Objective: The overall goal of this paper is to test whether simple nutritional interventions lower rates of anemia and to assess whether this leads to improved educational performance among students in poor areas of rural China.Approach: We report on the results of a randomized control trial (RCT) involving over 3600 fourth grade students, mostly aged 9 to 12, from 66 randomly-chosen elementary schools in 8 of the poorest counties in Shaanxi Province in China’s poor northwest region. The design called for random assignment of schools to one of three groups: two different types of treatment/intervention schools; a non-intervention, control group. The two interventions were designed to improve hemoglobin (Hb) levels, which is a measure of iron deficiency. One intervention provided a daily multivitamin with mineral supplements, including 5 milligrams of iron, for 5 months. The other informed the parents of their child’s anemia status and suggested several courses of action (henceforth, the information treatment).Findings: Some 38.3 percent of the students had Hb levels of below 120 g/L, the World Health Organization’s cutoff for anemia for children 9 to 12 years old. In the schools that received the multivitamins with mineral supplements, Hb levels rose by more than 2 g/L (about 0.2 standard deviations). The standardized math test scores of the students in the schools that received the multivitamin with mineral supplements also improved significantly. In schools that received the information treatment, only students that lived at home (and not the students that lived in boarding schools and took most of their meals at schools) registered positive improvements in their Hb levels. The reductions in anemia rates and improvements in test scores were greater for students that were anemic at the beginning of the study period. Overall, these results should encourage China’s Ministry of Education (MOE) to begin to widen its view of education (beyond teachers, facilities and curriculum) and provide better nutrition and health care for students.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze anemia prevalence and its influencing factors of students involved in the Nutritional Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students in 2019. Methods: From the 2019 surveillance system of the Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students, 47 297 primary and middle school students aged 6-17 were included in the study. Hemoglobin level was tested according to the criteria of WHO 2011. Anemia prevalence of different genders, ages, and regions was analyzed. Results: The average hemoglobin level was 135.19 g/L, with the prevalence of anemia as 8.7% in the children aged 6-17. The prevalence of anemia was 10.0% in girls, higher than that in boys (7.4%). The prevalence rates in western and central areas were 9.8% and 7.1%, respectively. From northwest, southwest, central and south, east, north to northeast areas of China, the anemia rate appeared gradually decreasing (10.2%, 9.7%, 8.3%, 7.5%, 5.7% and 3.5%). The anemia prevalence rates were 8.0%, 8.3%, and 10.9% in children from the 6-, 11-, and 14-17 years age groups, respectively. Logistic regression models revealed that students from schools not using catering software (OR=1.482, 95%CI:1.296-1.694,P<0.001), schools not serving lunch (OR=1.241, 95%CI:1.103-1.395,P<0.001), and from relatively low-income families (OR=1.297, 95%CI:1.211-1.389, P<0.001) showed as risk factors for anemia. After supplementing students' dietary factors, the results showed that students who ate meat three or more times a week had a lower risk of anemia (OR=0.907, 95%CI:0.832-0.989, P=0.026). Conclusions: The Nutritional Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students had an essential impact on improving the anemia prevalence of primary and middle school students. Family income, school location, economic factors, school feeding, and students' diet programs all impacted the prevalence of anemia.
[Iron Status and Effect of Early Iron Supplementation on Sub-Clinical Iron Deficiency in Rural School-Age Children from Mountainous Areas of Beijing].

Abstract:OBJECTIVETo understand iron nutritional status in school-age children, incidence of the sub-clinical iron deficiency (SID) and effect of iron supplementation on SID in the rural school-age children from mountainous areas of Beijing.METHODSThe dietary survey and food frequency questionnaire survey were conducted in 1,012 school children aged 7 - 13 at rural mountainous areas of Fangshan District, Beijing, and their blood samples were collected for analyzing biochemical indicators for iron nutrition. Two hundred and sixty-seven children with IDs (iron deficiency store) and IDE (iron deficiency erythropoiesis), based on screening criteria for iron-deficiency anemia, received an iron supplementation (NaFeEDTA) capsule (containing 60 mg iron element) weekly, and those with IDA (iron deficiency anemia) received NaFeEDTA capsule thrice weekly for nine weeks. Blood biochemical indicators for iron nutrition were determined repeatedly and compared with those before and after the intervention.RESULTSThe daily average intakes of energy, protein, iron and vitamin C in school children of all age groups reached the daily recommended criteria (> 85% of the RNIs), but the proportion of heme in dietary iron constitution was lower. The average blood biochemical indicators for iron nutrition were as follows: serum ferritin (SF) (50.83 +/- 33.09) micro g/L, free erythrocyte protoporphyrin (FEP) (489.44 +/- 219.61) micro g/L, hemoglobin (Hb) (130.57 +/- 10.82) g/L, and the ratio of FEP/Hb (3.83 +/- 1.96), respectively. Incidence of total iron deficiency in rural children was 26.5%, with proportions of iron deficiency (IDs), iron deficiency erythropoiesis (IDE), and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) of 15.5%, 7.1%, and 3.9% respectively. SID accounted for 85.4% of the total iron deficiency, which was 5.8 times as much as IDA. With iron supplementation for 9 weeks, the hematdogical index of iron increased significantly and returned to the normal level.CONCLUSIONSThe incidence of subclinical iron deficiency in the rural school-age children was insidious and should be attached more importance, which was helpful to its early recognition and intervention. Iron supplementation is important for children with SID to prevent and decrease the occurrence of IDA.
Effects of complementary food supplements on incidence of anemia among infants and young children in Zhejiang Province

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of complementary food supplements to treat anemia and improve hemoglobin. METHODS All children(n = 292) aged 4 to 30 months from three cities in Zhejiang Province, were screened for the trial; 146 were treated with nothing, and another 146 were randomized into the group which received with a multiple micronutrient supplement. Hemoglobin(Hb), weight and height were measured at baseline and after 3 months of treatment,they were assessed again. RESULTS The treatments significantly increased Hb( g / dL). After the intervention, the prevalence of anemia was reduced to a greater extent in the intervention group than in the control group(P﹤0.05). There were no significant differences in changes about weight and height between treatment group and control group. CONCLUSION The supplements MMS increase Hb more than the control group; the supplement that contained micronutrients(MMS) is more effective for reducing the prevalence of anemia.
Relationship between Anemia and Academic Performance in Chinese Primary School Students: Evidence from a Large National Survey

Abstract:Anemia is a global public health problem, especially common among children in developing countries, which affects their physical and mental health development. However, there is currently a lack of research on the relationship between anemia and academic performance. The objective of this study was to explore the association between anemia and academic performance, and the possible factors mediating this association among Chinese children. The data for this study came from the baseline survey of the Chinese Education Panel Survey Elementary School Cohort. The cohort was conducted from September 2018 to June 2019 in 160 elementary schools, covering 20 provinces and 40 counties/districts throughout China. Paper-based questionnaires were used, completed by 4th grade students, parents, head teachers, main teachers, and principals. The data used included questionnaire responses, physical measurements, and academic performance of 17,695 students. Based on students’ hemoglobin levels and school altitude data, we grouped them into anemia and nonanemia categories using WHO criteria. The anemia group had 1,154 individuals, while the nonanemia group had 16,541 individuals. An ordinary least squares regression and mediation effect analysis were conducted. Our findings found the prevalence of anemia was 6.52% among Chinese Grade 4 students. Students without anemia had a higher average test score for three academic subjects than students with anemia ( P < 0.001 ); their test scores for Chinese, Mathematics, and English were also higher ( P < 0.05 ). Multivariate regression analysis showed a negative association between anemia and average test scores as well as individual test scores for the three subjects. Mediation analysis found that anemia affected academic performance directly ( P < 0.05 ), and indirectly by decreasing the cognition score ( P < 0.05 ). The indirect effect was 19.9% of the total effect. Findings highlighted anemia affected academic performance both directly and indirectly. Nutrition-related interventions should be implemented to prevent a decrease in academic performance among students with anemia.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the iron intake status and its health impacts on school-aged children in 5 cities of China.Methods A total of 485 school-aged children from Beijing,Suzhou,Zhengzhou,Lanzhou and Xingtai were surveyed in this study from 2011 to 2012 with multistage cluster sampling method.Iron intake was measured using a one-time 24-hour dietary recall method,and weight and height were measured.The Wechsler Intelligence Scale was used to measure the intelligence development(IQ)of children.Peripheral blood was obtained to test the hemoglobin level and serum iron level.Results There were 39.2% of children with deficient iron intake.Children who had a higher intake of iron had a significant higher level of serum iron compared with those with a lower iron intake(F= 3.357,P= 0.036).However,the physical development indicators and IQ were not significantly different between children with different iron intake levels(all P>0.05).The eating pickiness(F=0.204,P=0.903),times of eating outside(F=1.257,P=0.286)and snacks(F=0.580,P=0.560)were not significantly related with iron intake.Conclusion Insufficient intake of iron might lower the serum iron of children.To promote comprehensive development of children,it is important to supervise the iron intake status and iron deficiency of children.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the status of iron deficiency and the rate of anemia of 3 - 11 year-old children in Chinese cities and countryside and explore the possible related influencing factors.METHODS:The multistage stratified cluster random sampling was used to select one kindergarten and one primary school in seven cities (Beijing, Shenyang, Suzhou, Zhengzhou, Chengdu, Lenzhou and Guangzhou) and two countryside randomly in Hebei Province one bottom class, middle class, top class in one kindergarten and one second grade and fifth grade in one primary school were selected randomly. All of the healthful students of these classes were investigated and the element iron and the parameters of red blood cell were detected.RESULTS:1863 students in 7 cities and 2 countryside were investigated in the research. The incidence of iron deficiency of different ages had statistical significance and with the age increasing, the incidence showed a decreasing trend. The incidences of iron deficiency were 47.1% and 38.2% in 3 -4 year-old children and 4 - 5 year-old children, respectively. The incidence of anemia of different ages had statistical significance. The incidences of anemia of 3 - 4 year-old children and 4 -5 year-old children were significantly higher than those of 5 - 6 year-old children. The incidences of anemia were 4.0% and 7.1% in 3 - 4 year-old children and 4 -5 year-old children, respectively. No statistical significance for different sex of the same age was found for iron deficiency and anemia incidence. The incidence (12%) of anemia of the children in countryside area was significantly higher than those in first-tier cities and second-tier cities.CONCLUSION:The status of iron deficiency and the rate of anemia of 3 - 11 year-old children in Chinese cities and countryside were improved recently, but still serious. It should be paid more attention to the children with lower serum iron content and the children in rural areas.
Effects Evaluation of Nutrition Intervention on Rural Boarding School Students in Shaanxi

Abstract:【Objective】 To evaluate the effects of nutrition intervention on rural boarding school students in two counties in Shaanxi province.【Methods】 Two intervention towns and one economy-matched control town in Chunhua and Yulin county,Shaanxi province were selected,respectively.One middle school and one primary school were further selected in each town.One academic year comprehensive nutrition intervention was implemented in intervention schools.【Results】 There were no significant differences of the energy,protein,fat and carbohydrate intake between the intervention group and the control group.Protein percentage of energy was 12.4%,significantly higher than that in control group(11.8%).Vitamin A,Ca,K and Zn intakes were significantly higher than those in control group.There were no significant differences of the average HAZ and BAZ between the intervention group and the contorl group except boys with 7~9 years old and girls with 12~15 years old.However,the prevalences of severe and moderate low-weight were significantly lower in the intervention group than those in the control group.Serum vitamin B12 level in the intervention group(778.5 ng/L) was significantly higher than that in the control group(654.4 ng/L).【Conclusion】 Nutrition intervention can improve the dietary nutrients status,decrease the prevalence of the severe and moderate low-weight,and improve the blood micronutrients levels of the students in rural boarding schools.

Abstract:Iron deficiency (ID) is the biggest cause of anemia. This pilot study aimed to investigate the effects of food-derived oligopeptide iron chelates on ameliorating liver injury and restoring gut microbiota homeostasis in iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) female rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats at 21 days old were selected and randomly divided into a control group (N = 4) and an ID model group (N = 16). The ID model group was fed an iron-deficient diet containing 4 mg kg(-1) iron for 28 days to generate the IDA rat model and then randomly subdivided into four groups (N = 4 for each group): ID group, ferrous sulfate group, marine fish oligopeptide iron chelate (MCOP-Fe) group, and whey protein oligopeptide iron chelate (WPP-Fe) group. Iron supplements were given to rats in the three intervention groups once per day via intragastric administration for three weeks. After iron supplementation, the hemoglobin levels in the three intervention groups were significantly improved, with the MCOP-Fe and WPP-Fe groups returning to normal. The ALT and AST levels in the ID group increased significantly, while levels in all intervention groups decreased to normal levels. Liver glutathione in the WPP-Fe group was increased, while the activity of superoxide dismutase also tended to be higher. In addition, 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that IDA resulted in changes to intestinal microbiota. After intervention, the WPP-Fe group showed increased alpha diversity of intestinal microbes. Therefore, MCOP-Fe and WPP-Fe may improve the iron status of IDA female rats as well as ameliorate liver damage, with WPP-Fe showing a greater potential in improving gut microbiota imbalance.
Prevalence and Incidence of Anemia among School Students Aged 6-11 Years Old in Minhang District of Shanghai

Abstract:Objective To analyze the epidemic features of anemia among students aged 6-11 years old in Minghang District,to provide basis for the control and prevention strategies of anemia among school students.Methods Surveillance on hemoglobin concentration was conducted among 42 872 students aged from 6 to 11 years old between 2012 and 2015.All data analyses were completed by SPSS 18.0 statistical software.Results The prevalence rate of anemia among school students 6-11 years old was 5.05％ (95％CI:4.84-5.26).The prevalence rate of anemia among girls was 5.28％,which was significantly higher than that 4.84％ among boys (x2 =4.24,P =0.037).Six-year-old boys and girls were most susceptible to anemia.Compared to students in Hope Schools,public school students are more vulnerable to anemia (boys:OR =2.37,95 ％ CI:2.03-2.76;girls:OR =2.08,95 ％ CI:1.74 -2.49).Overweight and obese students had a lower risk of anemia than average students (boys:OR =0.65,95 ％ CI:0.55-0.76;girls:OR =0.75,95 ％ CI:0.61-0.92).The three-year cumulative incidence of anemia was 12.80％ (95 ％CI:12.49-13.12).The cumulative incidence among girls was 14.52％,which was significantly higher than that of 11.28％ among boys (x2 =100.26,P＜0.001).Six-year-old boys have the highest three-year cumulative risk among all students,while 10-11-year-old girls have the highest three-year cumulative incidence.The risk of anemia in Hope School was found highest in all schools (boys:RR =1.93,95％CI:1.72-2.16;girls:RR =1.20,95 ％CI:1.04-1.39).Overweight and obesity were considered protective factors to anemia (boys:RR =0.75,95％CI:0.67-0.84;girls:RR =0.77,95％CI:0.68-0.88).The primary and recurrent detection rates of anemia were 14.58％ and 2.54％.The anemia among students was mainly detected during the first examination despite the differences in ages,schools and nutrition conditions (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions The prevalence of anemia among primary school students in Minhang District is at a mild level.Control measures should be adopted,including monitoring of hemoglobin in all school children and adolescents,taking individual intervention measures based on results,promoting the health education for adolescent girls and parents of school children,and paying special attention to Hope School and students with recurrent and continuous anemia.

Abstract:【Objective】 To understand iron nutritional status, incidence of the latent iron deficiency( LID) and effect of iron supplementation on LID in the rural children of Shunyi County. 【 Mefthods】 The dietary survey, blood samples were collected by venopunction and hematological index were determined in 279 children aged 3 ～ 7 years. 30 children with LID were supplement with 30mg iron element(ferrous sulfate) once a day for 8 weeks, and after supplementation hematological index were determined again. 【Results】 ①Theintakes ofenergy, protein and iron are ＞85% ofthe RDA, but dietary intake ofvitamin C was ＜80% ofthe RDA. (②)The average contents of serum ferritin (SF) ,serum iron (SI), transferrin saturation(TS) and hemoglobin(Hb) were (53.21 ± 25.95)μg/L,(16.49± 5.33)μmol/L,(24.9± 8.6)% and (126.6± 11.6)g/L, respectively. The incidence of total iron deft ciency in rural chil&en was 28.1%, in which iron deficiency (ID)、 iron deficient erythropoiesis ( IDE)、 iron deficiency anemia (IDA)were 14.8%, 10.3%,3.0% respectively. The incidence of LID was 89.5% in total iron deficiency, and it was 9 times as much as IDA.(③)After supplement with iron for 8 weeks, the hematological index was significant enhanced, but other children with LIDweren'tsupplementthat6.7%ofthemfurtherdevelopedtoIDA. 【Conclusions】 The incidence of ID in the rural children was 28.1%, among them the incidence of children with LID was 9 times as much as IDA. It is important that iron supplementation of LID in children to prevent and decrease the incidence of IDA.

Abstract:Abstract BACKGROUND: Adolescent girls are at a high risk of iron deficiency anemia. Weekly iron-folic acid supplementation (WIFAS) is recommended to address anemia, but it is still ineffective to reduce the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia. Lack of knowledge and low adherence are the factors associated with the problem. AIM: The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of education-combined WIFAS intervention compared to WIFAS intervention, and to identify the compliance of iron-folic acid tablets intake. METHODS: A quasi-experimental study was carried out on November 2020 to March 2021. By simple random sampling, a total of 135 adolescent girls in islamic boarding schools in Semarang, Indonesia were divided into two groups: WIFAS group only received WIFAS and the WIFAS+Education group received combination of WIFAS and education intervention for 16 weeks. Hemoglobin level was measured by Cyanmethemoglobin method. The knowledge and compliance were determined through the questionnaires. Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, and McNemar tests were performed to analyze the effect of intervention by SPSS 22 software. RESULTS: Mean of Hb levels and knowledge scores before and after intervention in the WIFAS group were 13.38 g/dL and 13.08 g/dL (p=0.055); and 79.08 and 76.21 (p=0.93), respectively, meanwhile in the WIFAS+Education group were 12.79 g/dL and 12.69 g/dL (p=0.248); and 78.67 and 82.10 (p=0.008), respectively. The increases of anemia prevalence both in the WIFAS group and the WIFAS+Education group was not statistically significant. There was no significant difference of the compliance both groups (p=0.095). CONCLUSION: Education intervention was effective to increase the knowledge regarding anemia and nutrition. The education intervention to trustees of islamic boarding school is needed to increase the compliance of WIFAS, so it can improve the effectiveness of WIFAS among adolescent girls.
