On the Current Situation of Internet Addiction of Left-at-home Children and Migrant Children, Their Mental Health and Interpersonal Relationships

Abstract:This study aims to investigate into the Internet addiction rates of migrant children and left-at-home children （those rural children left at home by their parents seeking employment in cities）, and probe into the relationships between these two groups of children＇ s mental health, interpersonal relationships, and tendency to Intemet addiction, by using a questionnaire to test a total of 3416 children, including migrant children, left-athome children and ordinary rural children. The findings show the following： （ 1 ） The Intemet addiction rates of migrant children, left-at-home children and ordinary rural children are 12.99%, 6.83% and 6.82%, respectively. （2） The girl students at junior high schools achieve significantly higher scores on Intemet addiction than the girl students at primary schools;the migrant boy or girl students achieve significantly higher scores on Internet addiction than the left-at-home children or ordinary rural children with corresponding gender. （3） A comparison between the group of left-at-home or migrant children with Intemet addiction and the group of left-at-home or migrant children without Intemet addiction shows that the Intemet addicts all have poorer mental health and interpersonal relationships. （4） The group of left-at-home or migrant children with Intemet addiction has poorer mental health than the group of ordinary rural children with Intemet addiction.
