A Study of Factors Affecting Internet Addiction Tendency among Middle School Students in Qingdao

Abstract:This study tried to understand what variables influence the juvenileinternet addiction tendency. For this purpose, a survey questionnairewas distributed to 330 students from five middle schools located inQingdao City, Shan-dong Province, China and 300 questionnaires wereused for data analysis. The study used SPSS 21.0 to execute FrequencyAnalysis, t-test, MANOVA, Multiple Regression Analysis and Sobeltest,entering the juvenile internet addiction tendency as a dependentvariable, family relationship intimacy and school life satisfaction asindependent variables, while internet expectancy was entered as amediating variables. The study found the following results. First, significant differences inthe degree of internet addiction tendency were found among theparticipants depending on gender, grade level, and GPA. Secondly, therewas statistically significant difference in the degree of internet addictiontendency depending on the places where the internet is installed andused. Thirdly, the lower the degree of family intimacy was related to themore serious the internet addiction tendency. In addition, the lower theschool life satisfaction was closely related to the more serious theinternet addiction tendency. Finally, Internet expectancy had an indirecteffect on the relationship between family relationship and internetaddiction tendency.
