Abstract:By analyzing a number of GPS data, a principle was found that GPS single point location data was composed of position excursion and normal distribution. In order to separate the position excursion from normal distribution, normality elimination method was advanced. First, calculated average latitude and longitude coordinate of GPS data as central coordinate of normal distribution. Then, calculated confidence interval [-sigma, sigma] and removed excursion points outside of it. Finally, calculate a radius of the circle that ensure 70~80% points falling in the circle, namely defined threshold lambda as 0.7~0.8. By reason that the property of 70~80% points was able to take the place of all points, the method could be feasible and the result was obvious. Aimed at the location error of GPS single point measurement was large, a new method of two points relative location measurement was put forward which used two GPS receivers to acquire location data separately and simultaneously at two endpoints of a certain distance. The experiment results indicated that when threshold lambda was 0.7, the previous measurement error of single point location experiment was above 10m. However, after using the new method, the location error was about 1.2m. It was turned out that the latter improved measurement accuracy greatly

Abstract:The portable track detecting instrument facilitates effective inspection of track smoothness. The speed measuring module is an important component of the system. The present way of measuring speeds has serious defects, such as that the positioning mistake is too large. To solve this problem, a new type track-detecting instrument using the Global Positioning System is studied. The paper discusses the hardware and software designs of the new system,and the key technologies of using the GPS, and also experimental analysis. The new system improves the accuracy of failure-point positioning. It helps to find the failure points more quickly and accurately, thus increasing the efficiency of maintenance.
Real-Time Calibration Method For Ground-Based Tt&C Systems Using Satellite-To-Ground Differential Gps

Abstract:In view of the shortcomings of traditional calibration methods and the differential GPS based post-calibration method for ground-based TT&C systems, a real-time calibration method based on satellite-to-ground differential GPS was proposed. Compared with the differential GPS based post-calibration method, the real-time calibration method enables the ground-based TT&C systems to obtain the calibrated measurement data in time to carry out orbit determination and prediction in real time and to timely inject the orbit parameters to improve the operational performance of the satellite. In view of the long baseline, high dynamic and real-time satellite-to-ground calibration scenario, all kinds of errors affecting the performance of satellite-to-ground baseline estimation and the correction effectiveness of these errors were systematically analyzed, and the concept of relative position dilution precision was proposed, thus obtaining the accuracy budget of satellite-to-ground baseline estimation. A robust adaptive Kalman filter algorithm was used as the real-time satellite-to-ground baseline estimation algorithm, and a weighted least square method was employed to solve the real-time measurement error of the ground-based TT&C system, so as to obtain the calibration results. A hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform was established by using spaceborne dual frequency GPS receivers and a navigation signal simulator. The simulation results show that, after real-time calibration, the residual ranging error of the TT&C system is reduced to about 40 cm, and the residual velocity measurement error is reduced to less than 1 cm/s, which is consistent with the theoretical analysis, and can well meet the requirements of future space missions.

Abstract:In order to calibrate the measurement error (range error, velocity error and angle error) of spaceflight telemetry, tracking and commanding (TT&C) systems, double-difference GPS system between the calibration satellite and the ground station is established and precise satellite-ground baseline solution is used as the comparative reference of the TT&C measurement. An extended Kalman filter (EKF) modeling the satellite-ground relative dynamics has been developed and a fixed-interval smoother is adopted to smooth the baseline solution of EKF forward and backward filters. Meanwhile, double-difference GPS carrier phase ambiguity is fixed by a cascading integer resolution method. To test and validate the precise baseline determination algorithm, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform is constructed with independently developed spaceborne dual-frequency GPS receivers and a SPIRENT GPS signal generator. The simulation results show that with the fixed-interval smoother, the baseline accuracy (rms, single axis) of better than 10cm is achieved. The precise baseline solution can be used to calibrate the TT&C measurement error.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose and analyze a new GPS positioning algorithm. Our algorithm uses the direct linearization technique to reduce the computation time overhead. We invoke the general least squares method in order to achieve optimality in the situation when the trilateration system of equations becomes over-determined. We systematically evaluate our new algorithms and show that they indeed take much less computation time than the traditional GPS method while maintaining reasonable accuracy.

Abstract:According to the fact that it takes a lot of time to obtain high precision results by single epoch algorithm,three GNSS receivers are erected on a carrier.The distance between the receivers are measured in advance,and the attitude angles of the carrier are measured by a gyroscope.Thus,the distance and attitude constraints are added to the baseline adjustment.Then a relatively stable and accurate result is achieved.The experiment results show that the maximum deviations are less than 10mm in the east and north directions,30 mm in the elevation direction.The accuracy of the result is improved by more than 15％ compared to the result without distance and attitude constraints.
Accuracy Analysis of BeiDou-3/GPS Real-Time Precise Common View Time Transfer Based on Carrier-Phase

Abstract:The accuracy of GNSS timing through standard service could not meet the requirements of new-generation mobile communication, distributed cooperative observation, deep space exploration, and many other fields. The performance of BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3)/GPS Precise Common View (PCV) time transfer based on carrier-phase is investigated to address this issue. Using 33-day consecutive observations of 11 stations from the tracking network of the international GNSS Monitoring and Assessment System and the International GNSS Service, long baseline PCV time transfer experiments were carried out from several aspects, including different signals, different orbit products, and real-time and post-processing. The accuracy of PCV time transfer results is evaluated by comparing them with the results produced by PPP time transfer. For the real-time PCV time transfer based on broadcast ephemeris, the accuracy of results with BDS-3 is within 0.2 ns for baselines up to 3000 km, which is better than that with GPS. In the aspect of real-time and post-processing PCV time transfer based on precise ephemeris, while it is hard to get a regular solution with GPS-only observations for baselines over 7000 km, it is still better than 0.6 ns with BDS-only observations. For baselines of 3000 km and less, GPS and BDS-3 PCV results with precise ephemeris are of comparable accuracy. Based on precise ephemeris, the accuracy of real-time PCV time transfer is close to post-processing PCV. From the experiment results, one can find that PCV time transfer is unaffected by the differential code bias at the satellite end and is immune to the day-boundary discontinuities caused by the clock products. The results show that the carrier-phase-based BeiDou-3 PCV time transfer can achieve sub-nanosecond accuracy in post-processing and real-time mode for baselines as long as 7000 km.

Abstract:The emerging Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) including the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) offer more visible satellites for positioning users. To employ those new satellites in a real-time kinematic (RTK) algorithm to enhance positioning precision and availability, a data processing model for the dual constellation of GPS and BDS is proposed and analyzed. A Kalman filter-based algorithm is developed to estimate the float ambiguities for short baseline scenarios. The entire work process of the high-precision algorithm based on the proposed model is deeply investigated in detail. The model is validated with real GPS and BDS data recorded from one zero and two short baseline experiments. Results show that the proposed algorithm can generate fixed baseline output with the same precision level as that of either a single GPS or BDS RTK algorithm. The significantly improved fixed rate and time to first fix of the proposed method demonstrates a better availability and effectiveness on processing multi-GNSSs.

Abstract:The single initial Global Positioning System (GPS) has been expanded into multiple global and regional navigation satellite systems (multi-GNSS/RNSS) as the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) is restored and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), Galileo Satellite Navigation System (Galileo) and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) evolve. Using the differences among these five systems, the paper constructs a consolidated multi-GNSS/RNSS precise point positioning (PPP) observation model. A large number of datasets from Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX) stations are employed to evaluate the PPP performance of multi-GNSS/RNSS. The paper draws three main conclusions based on the experimental results. (1) The combined GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/BDS/QZSS presents the PPP with the shortest mean convergence time of 11·5 min, followed by that of GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/BDS (12·4 min). (2) The combined GPS/GLONASS/BDS/Galileo/QZSS shows the optimal PPP performance when the cut-off elevation angle is basically the same because of the rich observation data due to a large number of satellites. To be specific, for combined GPS/GLONASS/BDS/Galileo/QZSS, the PPP convergence percentage is 80·9% higher relative to other combined systems under 35° cut-off elevation angle, and the percentages of the root mean square values of PPP within 0–5 cm are enhanced by 80·5%, 81·5% and 87·3% in the North, East and Up directions relative to GPS alone at 35° cut-off elevation angle. (3) GPS alone fails to conduct continuous positioning due to the insufficiency of visible satellites at 40° cut-off elevation angle, while the kinematic PPP of multi-GNSS/RNSS remains capable of obtaining positioning solutions with relatively high accuracy, especially in the horizontal direction.

Abstract:Multiple available signal frequencies in global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) can bring higher reliability and precision for real time kinematic (RTK) users. A combination RTK algorithm designed for moving baseline conditions, integrating pseudorange and carrier phase measurements from different frequencies and constellations is proposed in this work. Real measurements on Global Positioning System (GPS) L1 and L2 and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) B 1, B2 and B3 frequencies, from two moving automobiles are recorded to test the proposed algorithm. The baseline solution using all five frequencies shows a good match of less than 10cm difference on average with the results from a commercial receiver and also demonstrates a higher accuracy than the solutions using fewer frequencies.

Abstract:This paper studied GPS carrier phase technology for short baseline attitude determination.Aim at the measurement error generated by the noise and multi-path problem from the received signal,for existing integer ambiguity algorithm computing needs a long period of initialization time,first we established the basic model between GPS satellite differential observation equation and the geometry baseline the,then discussed the basic model combined with GPS carrier phase technology oriented principle,in the framework of short baseline attitude determination.By making full use of geometric constraints and least-squares ambiguity search algorithm,the study gave the method of selecting the master-slaves satellites used by short baseline attitude determination with single epoch data.The method avoids the carrier phase cycle slips and solves the problem which former solutions need a long time for initialization.The static experiment result shows that the method is more rapid and effective.It meets the accuracy requirement and provides reasonable scheme for the design of high accuracy GPS orientation.
Analysis of Multifrequency GNSS Signals and an Improved Single-Epoch RTK Method for Medium-Long Baseline

Abstract:In recent years, the quantity of visible satellites has increased significantly due to multiple satellite systems that leaped forward. The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) and Galileo satellite navigation system (Galileo) broadcast triple-frequency signals and above to users, thus enhancing the reliability, continuity, and availability of the single-epoch real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning. In this study, an improved single-epoch multifrequency multisystem RTK method is successfully developed for the medium-long baseline. First, the Galileo and BDS extra-wide-lane (EWL) ambiguities are fixed at a high success rate, and the Galileo and BDS wide-lane (WL) ambiguity is achieved via the transformation process. Second, the fixed WL ambiguities of Galileo and BDS are exploited to elevate the fixed rate of GPS WL ambiguity. Third, the parametric strategies for ionospheric delay are carried out to upregulate the narrow-lane (NL) ambiguity-fixed rate of GPS. Further, the real-time data are adopted for verifying the feasibility of the method developed in this study. The experimental results demonstrate the optimal carrier-to-noise density ratio (C/N0) of full operational capability (FOC) E5a/E5b at all frequencies, followed by IIR-M L1, and IIR-A/B L2 exhibits the worst performance. Generally, the multipath combination (MPC) of Galileo signals shows root mean square (RMS) values within 0.4 m, ordered as follows: E1>E5b>E5a. For the BDS-2, the B3 signal exhibits optimal performance, while the B1 signal is the worst. The RMS of MPC errors of L1 signals is smaller than the L2 signals for the GPS. Furthermore, under the 50 km baseline, the GPS NL ambiguity-fixed rate using the ionosphere-free (IF) combination reaches only 47.74% at the ratio threshold of 2. Finally, compared to the ionosphere-free combination method, the GPS NL ambiguity-fixed rate is increased by 45.52% with the presented method. The proposed approach broadens the future application of deformation monitoring in medium-long baseline scenarios.
Reducing GPS Carrier Phase Errors in the Measurement and Position Domains for Short-Distance Static Relative Positioning

Abstract:In GPS short-distance static relative positioning (e.g. the length of the baseline shorter than several kilometers and its height difference less than tens of meters), the precision and accuracy of the baseline solutions are limited because of the existence of unmodeled errors especially multipath errors. Considering that multipath errors are mapped from original observations to the baseline solution (position domain) and its residual series (measurement domain), scholars have applied a number of methods to reduce multipath errors in residual series to improve the precision of the baseline solution. However, multipath errors are difficult to eliminate from the baseline solution. Therefore, this study proposes a new strategy for eliminating the multipath errors both in the position and measurement domains. The steps are as follows: (1) a post-processed kinematic (PPK) approach was used to obtain the coordinate and residual series with L 1 observations; (2) the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) was employed to extract multipath errors from the residual series to correct original observations; (3) PPK was used again to obtain the corrected coordinate series with the corrected observations; (4) finally, a multi-scale decomposition utilizing wavelet transform was applied to the corrected coordinate series to obtain the residual terms and their average values, the result of which is taken as the final baseline solution. The precision and accuracy of the baseline solution are evaluated according to the root mean square error (RMSE). The experimental results show that the accuracy of baseline solution are improved about 16, 24, and 28 % for 10 min time periods, respectively, 24, 25, and 33 % for 30 min time periods, respectively, and 5, 23, and 22 % for 60 min time periods, respectively, of the traditional scheme. The influence of multipath errors on the baseline solution are efficiently weakened.
Long-Baseline Real-Time Kinematic Positioning: Utilizing Kalman Filtering and Partial Ambiguity Resolution with Dual-Frequency Signals from BDS, GPS, and Galileo

Abstract:This study addresses the challenges associated with single-system long-baseline real-time kinematic (RTK) navigation, including limited positioning accuracy, inconsistent signal reception, and significant residual atmospheric errors following double-difference corrections. This study explores the effectiveness of long-baseline RTK navigation using an integrated system of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and Galileo Satellite Navigation System (Galileo). A long-baseline RTK approach that incorporates Kalman filtering and partial ambiguity resolution is applied. Initially, error models are used to correct ionospheric and tropospheric delays. The zenith tropospheric and inclined ionospheric delays and additional atmospheric error components are then regarded as unknown parameters. These parameters are estimated together with the position and ambiguity parameters via Kalman filtering. A two-step method based on a success rate threshold is employed to resolve partial ambiguity. Data from five long-baseline IGS monitoring stations and real-time measurements from a ship were employed for the dual-frequency RTK positioning experiments. The findings indicate that integrating additional GNSSs beyond the BDS considerably enhances both the navigation precision and the rate of ambiguity resolution. At the IGS stations, the integration of the BDS, GPS, and Galileo achieved navigation precisions of 2.0 cm in the North, 5.1 cm in the East, and 5.3 cm in the Up direction while maintaining a fixed resolution exceeding 94.34%. With a fixed resolution of Up to 99.93%, the integration of BDS and GPS provides horizontal and vertical precision within centimeters in maritime contexts. Therefore, the proposed approach achieves precise positioning capabilities for the rover while significantly increasing the rate of successful ambiguity resolution in long-range scenarios, thereby enhancing its practical use and exhibiting substantial application potential.

Abstract:<p>The performance of precise point positioning (PPP) is easily affected by the observation environment, satellite number, spatial geometry and the accuracy of the external data products being used. In this study, we formulate the mathematical model of multi-GNSS PPP and assess the performance of dual- and triple-frequency PPP modes using the real-time products from the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES). For real-time dual-frequency PPP performance, the results show that, no significant differences can be observed from different combined PPP modes at a low cut-off angle (e.g. 10°). With the increase of the elevation cut-off angle, the multi-GNSS PPP shows a better performance in the convergence speed and positioning accuracy, especially in the early stage of convergence. Of all six PPP modes, the convergence time of GPS/BDS/GLONASS/GALILEO PPP is the shortest one under the elevation cut-off angle of 30°. Compared with GPS-only, the convergence time is reduced by 47.6% when converging to 0.2 m, and by 30.4% when converging to 0.1 m. For the position accuracy, under the elevation cut-off angle of 30°, 80.4% of positioning biases are within 0–10 cm in horizontal direction, and 91.0% within 0–20 cm in vertical direction for the GPS/BDS/GLONASS/GALILEO combined PPP. In addition, the convergence performance of triple-frequency PPP is improved by at least 36.4% in two schemes compared with dual-frequency PPP. The accuracy also be improved, with a mean RMS of about 2.9, 3.2 and 6.0 cm in East, North and Up directions.</p>

Abstract:Single-epoch real-time kinematics (RTK) has drawn attention for its benefits in managing cycle slips, yet research is mostly confined to short baselines. In this contribution, the triple-frequency GPS/Galileo/BDS single-epoch medium baseline RTK model is presented. Based on nine medium baselines, the positioning performance of triple-frequency single-epoch RTK is demonstrated and compared with the corresponding results of traditional dual-frequency scheme. It is shown that the triple-frequency scheme has a correctly fixing rate of 97.6%, which is roughly 5.6% higher than that of the dual-frequency scheme. For all solutions, including fixed and float epochs, the triple-frequency scheme achieves positioning accuracy of approximately 2.2, 1.8, and 5.3 cm in the east, north, and up directions, respectively, which is half the accuracy of the dual-frequency scheme. These results suggest triple-frequency observations enhance single-epoch medium RTK ambiguity resolution, potentially achieving centimetre-level accuracy in sparse reference station environments like offshore and desert regions.

Abstract:Abstract PPP-RTK which takes full advantages of both Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) and Precise Point Positioning (PPP), is able to provide centimeter-level positioning accuracy with rapid integer Ambiguity Resolution (AR). In recent years, with the development of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) and Galileo navigation satellite system (Galileo) as well as the modernization of Global Positioning System (GPS) and GLObal NAvigation Satellite System (GLONASS), more than 140 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) satellites are available. Particularly, the new-generation GNSS satellites are capable of transmitting signals on three or more frequencies. Multi-GNSS and multi-frequency observations become available and can be used to enhance the performance of PPP-RTK. In this contribution, we develop a multi-GNSS and multi-frequency PPP-RTK model, which uses all the available GNSS observations, and comprehensively evaluate its performance in urban environments from the perspectives of positioning accuracy, convergence and fixing percentage. In this method, the precise atmospheric corrections are derived from the multi-frequency and multi-GNSS observations of a regional network, and then disseminated to users to achieve PPP rapid AR. Furthermore, a cascade ambiguity fixing strategy using Extra‐Wide‐Lane (EWL), Wide-Lane (WL) and L1 ambiguities is employed to improve the performance of ambiguity fixing in the urban environments. Vehicle experiments in different scenarios such as suburbs, overpasses, and tunnels are conducted to validate the proposed method. In suburbs, an accuracy of within 2 cm in the horizontal direction and 4 cm in the vertical direction, with the fixing percentage of 93.7% can be achieved. Compared to the GPS-only solution, the positioning accuracy is improved by 87.6%. In urban environments where signals are interrupted frequently, a fast ambiguity re-fixing can be achieved within 5 s. Moreover, multi-frequency GNSS signals can further improve the positioning performance of PPP-RTK, particularly in the case of small amount of observations. These results demonstrate that the multi-frequency and multi-GNSS PPP-RTK is a promising tool for supporting precise vehicle navigation.

Improved Medium Baseline RTK Positioning Performance Based on BDS/Galileo/GPS Triple-Frequency-Only Observations

Abstract:With the global service of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), the Galileo Navigation Satellite System (Galileo), and the modernization of the Global Positioning System (GPS), achieving high-precision positioning through triple-frequency-only observations in medium baseline real-time kinematics (RTK) is anticipated. This study investigates the impacts of double-difference (DD) troposphere delay and ionosphere delay on ambiguity resolution (AR) based on six medium baselines at a latitude of 30°. Additionally, it evaluates positioning accuracy, fixing rate, convergence time, and computational time using triple-frequency-only (B1I/B2a/B3I, E1/E5a/E5b, L1/L2/L5) data, comparing these results to those obtained from dual-frequency (B1I/B2a, E1/E5a, L1/L2) and combined dual-frequency and triple-frequency data. The experimental findings suggest that, for geometry-based wide-lane (WL) AR, the DD troposphere delay and ionosphere delay can be disregarded. However, they cannot be overlooked when aiming to resolve the raw ambiguity. Triple-frequency-only RTK exhibits comparable positioning accuracy to dual-frequency RTK, with its primary advantage lying in faster convergence. The probability of achieving convergence within 180 s is approximately 8.0% higher for triple-frequency-only RTK compared to dual-frequency RTK. In terms of computational time, the use of triple-frequency-only data reduces the required time by 8.26 s compared to the approach that simultaneously employs both dual-frequency and triple-frequency data, resulting in a computational time reduction of approximately 20%. Therefore, when conducting medium baseline RTK positioning, it is recommended to adopt the ambiguity resolution method proposed in this paper based on triple-frequency-only observations.

Abstract:Attitude determination using global navigation satellite system (GNSS) has the characteristics of low cost, zero drift, and all-weather. It has important application value in the fields of motion carrier navigation, airborne/shipborne mapping, and rotational seismology. The key problem of GNSS attitude determination is the integer ambiguity resolution. Due to the influence of GNSS observation noise and environment, the ambiguity fixing rate and attitude accuracy sometimes cannot meet the needs of practical application. In this article, we present the mathematical model for GNSS dual-antenna attitude determination augmented by baseline-length constrained ambiguity resolution. The baseline-length constraint is added to the parameter estimation as pseudo-observations through Kalman filter. To investigate the ambiguity resolution performance and accuracy of baseline-length constrained attitude determination, we carry out static and vehicle-based dynamic experiments with single and combined GPS/BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS). The experimental results prove that the baseline-length constraint takes effect under different elevation mask angles and systems. The best improvement is achieved by the GPS single system with the elevation mask angle of 40°, where the ambiguity fixing rate is increased from 59% to 84% and 42% to 74% in the static and dynamic experiments, respectively. In BDS and GPS/BDS experiments, the improvement of ambiguity fixing rate is not significant, but the ratio values are largely increased, and the accuracy maintains a high level. In the static experiment with the baseline length of 7.9 m, the accuracies reach 0.01° and 0.03° for yaw and pitch angles, respectively. Our results show that the GNSS attitude determination with baseline-length constraint can significantly improve the ambiguity fixing rate and attitude accuracy, which is of great significance to expand the application of GNSS attitude determination in navigation, surveying and mapping, and geoscience studies.
