Abstract:Based on reviewing the development of designing and making for shoe-last, one of the reasons why the footwear industry fall behind is Pointed out. Most of the machines used to make shoe-lasts are simply mechanical copiers and the shoe-last is designed by handcraft. This process brings shoe-last with not only higher cost and longer cycle but also lower quality. It’s really high time we took measures to improve the quality of shoe-last. Some effective measures are presented in this paper. The criteria of shoe-last must be revised at once. The CNC shoe-last machine tool and CAD system specialized for shoe-last making should be developed in our country. Talents should be introduced into the footwear industry. The advance technology should be imbibed. Developing shoe-last machine tool and CAD/CAM system for shoe-last is an efficient measure.

Abstract:Shoe last is the solid form around which a shoe is molded. Development of CAD system for shoe last is the key solution to improve shoe last industry. This paper focuses on the key modeling technologies of shoe last CAD system. Firstly, based on Object-Oriented technology, the design model of shoe last is constructed. Secondly, the point based geometric model of shoe last is defined, the surface point data set after regular processing represent the design geometric and the surface model generated from the data set is used as result displaying and subsequent applications such as NC programming. Finally, the system model that denotes the framework of the whole CAD system is presented. With these three models, a practical shoe last CAD system is realized successfully.

Abstract:This paper presents the discrete design method of shoe last in shoe last CAD system. The surface data of shoe last are obtained by coordinate measuring machine. After the data are pre-processed and parameterized, section curves in two directions are constructed. Then we get the discrete model of shoe last. This model can be used in downstream processes, such as NC programs generating, shoe styling and shoe soling etc.

Abstract:Shoe last is the solid form around which a shoe is molded. The application of CAD/CAM technology is the vital solution to improve shoe last industry. This paper presents an integrated CAD/CAM system development approach for shoe last. The system is implemented in Unigraphics software and Visual C++ programming. The shoe last CAD model is represented by a regular surface point data set. The design process is realized by manipulating the data set. The data set can then be used to construct surface model of shoe last. With the help of the CAM functions provided by UG/Manufacturing, the NC program can be obtained from the surface model and then controls a specialized shoe last NC machine to finish the machining process. The use of this integrated system greatly results in the production of high quality shoe lasts in a shorter time. This system development method is suitable for other CAD/CAM systems development of products with complex shapes.

Abstract:Triangle mesh of foot model is constructed with up to 50 characteristic points precisely identified from the laser scanned foot point data set. Key parameters taken from the foot-mesh model are converted into the corresponding shoe last parameters based on the empirical rules of key sizes mapping. By using this system, users can produce customized shoes to satisfy all kinds of special requirements.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the development of Shoelast CAD System based on Unigraphics software and presents the main framework of the system . According to the geometric characteristics of shoe last and the modeling functions provided by UG, the construction and modify methods of shoe last model are realized. After the model is constructed, the NC program of shoe last is generated using the GRIP NC functions of UG. With these methods, the Shoe last CAD System has been developed successfully on UG platform.

Abstract:After introduced shoe-last with complicated surface, this article generalized the evolutionof shoe-last machining and brought into a new technology --High Speed Cutting. In addition,based on current CNC carving, it was indicated that HSC is very useful not only to increasecutting efficiency, shorten machining time and reduce costs, but also to improve machiningaccuracy and surface quality. In the end, aiming at the key of HSC, it was brought out andanalyzed about how to use HSC in the process of machining shoe-last.

Abstract:This paper presented a novel method of matching 3D foot to shoe last based on axial deformation algorithm. The method was essentially emulating the situation of wearing shoes to check the comfort level of shoe last. First, aligned the foot to the last strictly through adjusting its position without moving the last. Then, utilized axial deformation algorithm to modify the shape of foot slightly so that their postures could be matched exactly. Finally, generated dozens of sectional views comparing the foot and last which were provided for analyzing comfort level of the last. The experimental results show that this method can inspect and improve the comfort level of last efficiently which can be applied to customized shoemaking.

Abstract:In order to improve the precision of shoe last machining,a surface model construction method for shoe last with reverse engineering method in complex surface-kind was put forward.First the point data of shoe last were acquired by 3D laser scanner.Based on wavelet transformation,Stein's unbiased risk estimate was used to smooth and de-noise the measurement data.Three-order non-uniform rational B-spline(NURBS) curve was constructed to describe the u and v direction curves of shoe last surface,consequently three-order NURBS surface was obtained to fit the shoe last surface.A mathematical model of shoe last was built,based on which the interference-free tool path was generated according to the constant scallop height principle.The model was set up using Unigraphics software to simulate the numerical control machining process of shoe last.The results show that the accuracy of shoe last surface can be adjusted with this reconstruction method.The tool path can be conveniently computed according to the acquirement of machining efficiency,and the errors compared with the given machining precision are acceptable within permissible limits.

Abstract:Thin-walled workpiece with insufficient rigid property is deformable during the machining process. Fixture is an important consideration in the operation. To reveal the effect of locating points, clamping sequence and clamping force on the distortion of thin-walled frame part, finite element models were established to simulate the clamping operation. It shows that the optimal clamping scheme is that the clamps (or supports) are far from each othar, clamping forces are firstly applied on the surface with low rigid and every clamping force is applied in one step.
Automatic Tool Path Acquisition for Customized Shoe-Last System

Abstract:A customized shoe-last process is proposed to satisfy the needs of customers in the shoe-making industry. First, images of foot-shape are acquired by a 3-D scanner. After preprocessing and modifying the customized shoe-last, the shoe-last data looks like a point cloud. To acquire the tool path from this point cloud, the method modifies the shoe-last data with a cubic smoothing spline interpolation method and a least squares patch fitting method. A fractionizing algorithm is used to calculate the curve normal line (vector) with a triangle calculating algorithm to automatically calculate the tool path. Therefore, the designed shoe-last based on 3-D scanning is transformed to a tool path where smoothness is ensured within the permitted error range in the shoe-last making process.

Abstract:Wenzhou used to be one of the poorest regions in eastern China. With limited arable land, poor road access to major cities, and little support from the government, it seemed to lack all the necessary conditions for economic growth according to the standard textbook. However, over the past several decades, Wenzhou has achieved one of the fastest growing rates and owned the most dynamic private sector in China. The footwear industry in particular has grown from a negligible place to the largest market share and has formed one of the largest industry clusters in China. Therefore, the footwear industry provides us with a good example to unde rstand the driving forces behind the dramatic rural industrial growth. For this study, we undertake a survey on about 140 enterprises at different scales in Wenzhou. The survey enables us to examine how the start -up capital, credit, technology, and institutional barriers have been overcome in the formation process.

Abstract:Based on 3D scan,we generate the shoe last points cloud rapidly,which can be disposed of effective.By adjusting the initial position of the data cloud mutual,we can recognize the feature points automatically,then to form the feature sizes,to change the shoe last sizes digital and display it in 3D.With the use of the mirror function,a pair of shoe last can be built.The ultimate data import into the RP machine directly and produce the practicality.The paper bring a method which has been accomplished that constitute a closed circle from 3D scan to RP manufacture rely on the ideal about CAD/CAM integration system.

Abstract:With the development of computer-aided design (CAD) technology and increasing demands of customized footwear, shoe-lasts are requested to be designed rapidly so as to speed-up the process of footwear manufacturing. Thus, this study presents a CAD system for shoe-last rapid customized design based on the piecewise reconstruction to realize the interactive deformation and separate/global shoe-last form reuse. First, piecewise remodeling method is proposed based on the multi-layer parametric definition and contour curves are extracted from the mesh. Then, five types of proper constraints to support surface manipulation are proposed, and the draft-driven deformation by the contour curve bending can realize the interactive local surface design in free angle of view. Finally, shoe-last styles can be saved and reused globally or separately to share design results between different shoe-lasts. Experimental examples show that customized shoe-lasts can be easily and rapidly generated by adopting the parametric design methods.
